Safari dock icon reverted to generic app icon after 7.0.6 update

Hi
Since the 7.0.6 update, Safari has the generic Applications icon in the dock, not the Safari icon. This is also true of the software application in the Applications folder. I've tried restarting my Mac, and removing the dock icon and putting it back. I'll try deleting and re-downloading Safari from the App Store if no-one has any other ideas.
I've had this problem with a 3rd party app (1password) and got very snippy with the AgileBits support lady about it, but now it's happened with an apple native app I'm guessing this is Mavericks?
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Fixed it. Repaired disk permissions then restarted.

  • Dock Area and Office 2004 Apps Icons

Does anyone knows is it possible to add to the OS X doc area an icon and function that will instead of having individual app icons for MS Office 2004 app just one icon that will give you a menu to choose a particular application within office 2004 suite. This would save me some space within the doc area.
    Any tip is highly appreciated!

Open the Script Editor in the /Applications/AppleScript/ folder and enter the following:
choose from list {"Microsoft Word", "Microsoft Excel"} with prompt "Which application do you want?"
set the_app to item 1 of the result
    tell application the_app
    run
    end tell
The actual names of the applications need to be placed inside quote marks in line 1. To add additional applications, add a name inside quote marks, and put a comma between the list items. Save it as an application and place it in the Dock.
Once an application has been opened, that application's icon will appear as well as the script's.

  • App icon changes to generic iOS icon once installed

So, this one I can't quite make heads or tails of—while the app is downloading and installing on the iPad, I can see the app's real icon design behind the progress wheel, but once it's finished installing, the icon just turns into a generic iOS icon as if there was not one designed by the developer. This is happening specifically with the NPR One app. At first I was thinking it might have something to do with the fact that it's an iPhone app downloaded to an iPad, but I've been unable to replicate this issue with any other iPhone-only app. Thus far, I've tried deleting and reinstalling, deleting, restarting the iPad, and then reinstalling to no avail.
I've taken screen caps while installing and after:
    While installing > http://cl.ly/X2Pc
    After installing > http://cl.ly/X1ct
    Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions?

I also have several generic icons on my iPad running OS 8. The apps involved are fully downloaded and work fine.
I finally decided to backup to iTunes, do a factory reset and restore from the backup. That all went well, but the generic icons are still there.
I don't want to delete and reinstall the apps. One of them is Launch in which I have created many custom actions. I assume that I will lose all of those if I delete and reinstall the app.
    Any ideas?

  • All user folder icons showing as generic folder icon

    Hi all,
I have an issue where all the folders in my User folder are the generic folder icon (e.g. not the pictures, music, desktop specific ones etc).
This seems to not just be in my user area, but an issue with Finder, as when viewing my Mac mini's folders from my iMac (the iMac is the one with the issue), the icons look generic also.  But on the Mac mini itself they're fine.

This only happens on the dock, when I set the managed preferences in WGM to show dock items like group folders applications folder, even the network home icon, (the little house), all these icons appear as question marks. If I follow this path from the sidebar like this:
    network->servers->myserver->users->documents
    or
I see that the users are saving their work on the server, this is really puzzling me!By the way, these are eMacs running 10.4.8.
This also may sound kiind of weird but when I click on managed preferences in dock items to add a group's folder and check the box an old folder from a deleted group comes up and not the group folder of that particular folder.

  • Can Time Machine revert to 10.5.1 after 10.5.2 update ?

The title says it all : do you think TM is able of downgrading to a previous version (10.5.1) if anything goes wrong with the update, system-wise ?
For instance, if I can't use some software, or Expose doesn't work any more , or Safari 3.1 is too buggy, that kind of thing, will I be able to revert to 10.5.1 after going 10.5.2 ?
Can I erase a security update this way too ?
Happy New Year to all !

    Happy New Year, Jack.
    The short answer is no.
    About "Downgrade" installations
"You should not reinstall an earlier version of the same software over a later version. These "downgrade" installs may seem to work, but Apple does not test nor recommend downgrade installations in most cases. Some installers prevent downgrade installations. If you need to reinstall an earlier version of Mac OS X, erase your disk first or choose the erase option in the Mac OS X Installer. Be sure to reinstall any software updates after reinstalling the operating system."

  • Why cant i buy download anything from the app store after the new ios7 update?

Why cant I download anything from the app store after updating to the ios7.02 system?

Do you have a song or podcast in iTunes that did not finish downloading? If you do - finish that one first. The apps will not update until that download is complete.
If that doesn't do it - sign out of your account - Settings>Store>Apple ID - sign out. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button. Go back to Settings>Store>Sign in and sign in again and see if you can tap on one app and start the download.

  • Dock folder ion covered by app icon

Today my Applications folder in the doc is covered by the address book icon. It looks like the app folder is still there. I can see the edges peeking out from behind the address book. Address book is the first app in the application list. It has been fine in the past. Several preferences have changed recently but I can't find anything in preferences about how the icons show themselves in the dock. Have I done something to cause this? How do I get it back to the folder only? So far I've tried removing/replacing the icon, changing the view of the folder when open, and restarting.
    Thanks.
    Geoff

Sorry, but that’s not very elegant. Placing an empty folder in there just for the Dock icon’s appearance?!
If you say so. Not particularly intuitive maybe, but not elegant? Please. It depends what icon you have there, an empty folder/application bundle looks no different from any other.
When viewed as a stack the Dock icon will always change and represent the most recent item in the folder.
I'm going to say, no. that's not true, unless my Mac has issues, (and has had since day one), or I have it set up incorrectly.
Now, I'll remove my empty folder. I have mine set up as a stack. I go to the dock and Address Book is the front most icon. I open Safari and place a new folder in the Apps folder called Z so that Address book +cannot be the most recent item+ I relaunch the Finder. Still, Address Book is the front most icon. Or am I reading you wrongly?
When viewed as a folder you will always see the regular folder icon. To change the view right-click on the docked folder and choose your desired view under *View as*.
Yes great, but I don't want to see that folder as my icon, I have drawers instead. Or I could spend money on CandyBar maybe. The method I use is free and it works.

  • Icons revert to generic

My Appleworks 6.2.9 icons are usually a miniature of the calendar or image created, now they revert to the generic Appleworks application icon whenever I change the calendar, etc. I have repaired permissions, run Cocktail, restarted and rebooted, trashed plists and user data, still the specific icons won't reappear. Usually they do. Any help gratefully received!!!
    Alice S.

AppleWorks draw & paint documents can have a custom icon that is a miniature of the document. This ability is set in Preferences > General… > Topic: Files by checking "Create Custom Icon." Checking this will not add the icon to any previously created generic icons until they are saved again.
If this option is checked but isn't working, you need to delete the AppleWorks preferences. Restart AppleWorks & set all your preferences again.

  • Why has my safari icon disappeared from the applications bar after the recent software update?

Everything was working perfectly until I uploaded the most recent software update. When I restarted my laptop I found that the Safari icon had disappeared from my applications bar.  If I go to my 'recent places' and click on Safari it then reappears but only until I close the laptop down as the next time I start it up, it's nowhere to be seen.  Can anyone help?

by applications bar you mean "dock"? After you click on recent places and start safari it will reappear in the dock and at this point you will want to control + click (right click) on the SAFARI icon and hover to options, make sure that "KEEP IN DOCK" has a check mark next to it. If it does not, click that option. Now it will keep the Safari Icon in your dock.

  • Email attachments are changing the original icons to a generic preview icon

When I send or receive an attachment, the original icon such as photoshop is changed to a generic icon called preview which is white with a graphic of a photo and a magnifing loop. How do I stop this?
    thank you!

Just getting ready to post this exact issue. Yes, when I drag a multipage pdf it converts it to a thumbnail jpeg of the file.
I thought my clients were on crack, but they aren't. Seems like the preview format (.png) on the new macs is creating the thumbnail but not actually linking the file.
My work around is to zip the file up and send it, but that isn't an optimal scenerio.
    please advise.

  • TM icon reverts to regular HD icon after drive disconnected/reconnected

    This is a nit-pick, but...
I have an external drive connected to a laptop. I took the laptop with me for the morning (which obviously required disconnecting the HD). When I came back and reconnected everything, Time Machine properly began backing up to the drive, but the icon in the Finder Sidebar has reverted to a standard Hard Disk icon instead of the green Time Machine one.
Its not a big deal because Time Machine still works just fine and properly captured all the changes that took place while I was away with my laptop. It just sort of bugs me that the icon has changed.

Well, I found a "fix" if you can call it that.
I simply went to Force Quit and relaunched the Finder.
What tipped me off that this might work is that I noticed that application Save dialogs were showing the green icon. It seemed logical to try "reseting" the finder and sure enough it worked. Odd that rebooting didn't do it in the first place.

  • Desktop icons appear as generic PS icons

I recently installed PSE 6.0 for Mac. Am running it on two machines, one using 10.4.11, the other running Leopard. This problem occurs on both machines. When I create a new image and save the file as a jpg, the file icon appears on the desktop as a generic PS jpg icon, rather than a mini of the image. I cannot find any option or preference that allows me to have file icons replicate the image. I did not have this problem in previous versions of PSE (2, 3).

You need to ask in the Elements forum as you have taken a wrong turn and ended up in the Photoshop forum.

  • Yahoo mail icon replaced by generic email icon.

Hello, I have a Blackberry Pearl Flip 8230 by Verizon, and had to delete & resend my service books. Since then, my Yahoo! mail icon has been replaced with a generic Blackberry email icon. Based on suggestions I have seen online, I have tried removing and reinserting the battery, as well as deleting and re-adding the email account in the BIS website. Neither of these worked. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

I don't have a specific suggestions to reclaim that Yahoo logo on your mail folder, but I do know many other users have reported this over the past few days.
I'm going to look around and see what others might have found success in.

You can try resetting your iPad by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears.
Try again to see if the problem persists.
