Safari does not recognize flash plug-in and will not play flash video

I use Safari as my go-to browser for web sites that would otherwise require me to turn off my several ad-block/flash-block plugIns for Firefox.  I do have it set to ask for permission ('Trust this site?') for every time I use flash on a new site (since I reset Safari regularly and clear all cookies every time I close it this means every time, every site, it asks).  New problem started sometime in the past week:  Safari is returning a 'download flash' icon on some videos on some web sites--but on others it correctly goes through the 'trust this site to use flash?' routine and when I click 'trust now' it plays the video normally.  Trying to figure out if this is a Safari problem, flash problem, or web site problem.  How can Safari both recognize that flash is being asked for (that's why it shows me the 'download flash now' icon, right?) and not recognize that it has flash installed?
Safari Version 7.0.4 (9537.76.4)

If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 8. Back up all data before making any changes.
Step 1
You might have to log out or restart the computer before a Flash update takes effect.
Step 2
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data...
and confirm. Close the window. Then select
 ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.
Step 3
If you're only having trouble with YouTube videos, log in to YouTube and load this page. You may see a link with the text "Leave the HTML5 Trial." If so, click that link.
Step 4
If you get a warning of a "blocked" or "outdated" plug-in, then from the menu bar select
 ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Check Now. Quit and relaunch the browser.
If the warning persists, triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Inside it, there should be a file named "XProtect.meta.plist". If that file is missing and you know why it's missing, restore it from a backup or copy it from another Mac running the same version of OS X. Otherwise, reinstall OS X.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
Step 5
In the Safari preferences window, select the Advanced tab and uncheck the box marked
Stop plug-ins to save power
Step 6
Open this folder as in Step 4:
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
Step 7
Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from the domain "get.adobe.com". Don't click a link from any other website, including this one, because you can't trust links. They may be an attempt to trick you into installing malware masquerading as Flash. Type the address into the browser window. Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
Step 8
If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked
Allow (or Enable) plug-ins
Then click the button marked
Manage Website Settings...
if present and make sure that the website is not blocked for Flash.
Step 9
Select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.

  • Safari Does Not Play Youtube Videos

    Hi,
I updated safari to the latest version (6.1.2) on my MacBook Pro (10.7.5) and now it does not play any Youtube videos at all. All I get is a black space instead of a video - neither video nor audio.

Hey, i have an iphone 4, and it is upto date, the problem is that my phone does not play any videos online except on facebook, all other videos do not play instead a crossed play sign appears on the video. Please help.

I watch YouTube videos on a regular basis - mostly with the YouTube app but also with Safari.
Some YouTube videos are supported to be viewed on a computer only or with a Flash capable device, which is becoming few and far between since Adobe no longer supports Flash on any mobile platform.
Sometimes I get this video cannot be played on this platform, but rarely.

  • Flash player 11.8 does not play YouTube video Windows 7 Enterprise

Since I spent days troubleshooting this, I thought I might save others the same.
    Environment:
windows 7 enterprise 32 bit (System meets requirements for flash player)
Workstation part of an AD Domain
    Occurs on all workstations
Using a proxy to access the internet (this is not the problem as chrome works fine and HTML5 works fine)
    Flash Player 11.8
    Browsers: IE 8, IE9, IE10, FireFox, Chrome
    Chrome plays videos fine
HTML5 Player plays fine in all browsers
IE8, 9, and 10 do not play videos; it starts to play then loops then dies with youtube error message
FireFox does not play youtube videos same as IE
I tried all solutions found on the internet, adjusting browser settings or uninstalling and reinstalling flash none of it worked.
    solution down grade flash player

    "Chrome plays videos fine
HTML5 Player plays fine in all browsers"
Chrome has its own embedded Flash Player - the installed version DOESN'T affect it.
    HTML5 DOESN'T use Flash (It's MP4 or webm)
Download the Flash Player uninstaller. Flash Player uninstaller
Download the Adobe Flash Player installer directly by clicking the following links.
Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer)
Flash Player Plug-in (All other browsers)
    SAVE all files.
    On each workstation:
Run the uninstaller to remove both ActiveX and regular Flash Player.
Reboot and then run the installers to replace both plugins.

  • Safari does not play movie stream

Does anyone have any idea why Safari does not play the movies on the web page
    http://www.3sat.de/delta/
You can find them under "Web-TV" (you have to click a little bit until a small window opens which has a button called "video starten" at the bottom right).
I believe the movies are reaplayer video streams.
Needless to say that the movies work just fine in Firefox ...
Any ideas, hints, pointers will be appreciated.

  • Safari Does Not Play QuickTime/.mpg Video, Only Audio

Quicktime video not playing in safari. Checked new user, issue persists, it's a system wide issue. All the settings are right. Worked before. Still works in Firefox and other browsers. Repaired permissions. Even video on the Apple site does not work. Flash still works, windows media content still works via Flip4Mac. I was just wondering if anyone discovered an easy fix for this issue. I don't feel like doing the archive and install (preserving) or re-imaging it. Everything is up to date except for the security update and itunes. Just stopped working tonight though, not right after I did the last updates. As I said. I know the traditional way to attack this, and even a couple time consuming non traditional ways. What I am looking for here is the quick fix (if there is one). Thanks.

Well, since we are all using different versions of Safari but the same version of QT, I headed over to the QT forum and found this - which seems to work for me.
I just dragged the file to the desktop, tho.
    "I removed the QuickTime Plugin.webplugin.
    Mac HD > Library > Internet Plug-Ins
    1. Drag QuickTime Plugin.webplugin to the trash.
    2. Relaunch Safari and the QuickTime video that was not playing previously.
    3. The video portion should now work."

  • Safari in 64-bit mode on Snow Leopard does not play YouTube videos

Recently Safari stopped playing youtube videos while Safari is in 64-bit mode. The entire page renders correctly; however the area where the video is supposed to play remains a black box without controls. I can watch video from other sites, or I can watch video from youtube if I use another browser like firefox. Additionally, I can go to the youtube video owner's channel and view videos there just fine. It's only when I try to view videos that use the "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=" method of displaying a video using Safari in 64-bit mode that it fails to play -- it plays fine with Safari in 32-bit mode.

It's not !. Flash player 10.1 is no better (as you can verify by downgrading here http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html)

  • Safari does not play media

When i go to a site that needs real player or Windows media to play safari sends me a message saying that i need a media player to watch video. I have the media players and it worked perfectly 2 days ago and the whole morning before it decided to flash this notice on it's screen. It seems to have trouble espicially with Atomfilms.com which was never ever the case. i can use internet explorer just fine. Netscape however has the same problem wheni try to view a movie. Any suggestions would be helpful.

    John, Michael,
I found a browser plugin 'conflict' on two Macs. An "older" plugin located in the /Library/Internet Plug-ins/ directory prevented certain Java scripts from executing. Hopefully this will correct your issues as well.
Affected browsers Safari and Firefox (v1.0.7). . .
Sites like AtomFilms.com, on clicking a movie such as "Hero" will always display a web page indicating a media player application is required to view the film with install selections for "Windows Media Player for Mac" or "Real Player 10 for Mac". I already have both of these apps installed on my Mac OS 10.3.9 systems.
BTW, and this actually gave me a clue, MS Internet Explorer (v 5.2.3) will always function properly and play the selected AtomFilms.com film feature choice! Only Safari and Firefox will not load the proper plug-in and play the film selection.
I did quite a bit of troubleshooting, working from Java error log files in Console. It eventually came down to a single plugin- Java Applet.plugin "Get Info" displays the plug-in version v1.2.0 (for Java 1.3.1), created August 3, 2004. Dragging this file to the Desktop out of the folder
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins/Java Applet.plugin
logging out then logging back in to my user account corrected the problem on both Mac OS 10.3.9 systems. This plug-in file is likely to be found if you have performed several Software Updates since Panther 10.3.5.
Please note that Firefox will require these two plug-in files
    MRJPlugin.plugin
    JavaEmbeddingPlugin.bundle
preferably version 0.9.5 of each for Java to properly function with that browser. Go to the Sourceforge.net webpage for Project: Java Embedding Plugin, for the most recent plug-in installer download:
    http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?groupid=107955&packageid=116499
Hope this helps fix your media player problem!

  • Safari does not play video off web pages

When ever I try to view a .mov, or mpeg, the viewer freezes on the first image, but the audio track continues to play. The movies play fine on other computers using QTP and Safari. Funny thing, is that in Safari, the movies do not play, yet they play fine on other computers, using Safari (1.3.2). The videos play fine on my computer, though only in Firefox. They play fine in iTunes, also.
So, why is this happening? Quicktime app not playing movies, now Safari not playing movies from websites (movies I have made)? There has to be a connection.
I have set up another user, and the problem still exists. I have tried reinstalling Quicktime, but problem still exists.

    Good you isolated the problem.
I suggest removing the Quicktime components from your system (leave the codecs in the /Library/Quicktime folder alone), including the Quicktime Player in the applications folder and plug-ins from the Internet Plug-ins Folder. Leave the preference file alone as it contains your QT Pro registration info. Then reinstall QT. "repair permissions" after the install.

  • Safari is not playing .mpg videos while navegating in the web

I am having problems with the Safari web browser.
While navigating the web, if I want to watch a video that has an ".mpg" extension, it will simply open a new window and leave it blank without starting the QuickTime plug in to play the video.
I remember Safari used to be able to reproduce almost any type of video files/extensions from the web (after installing Flip4mac...) directly in the web browser, however, not long ago it just simply stopped playing the .mpg extension videos.
I want to be able to view .mpg videos directly in the web browser. Please help me out!
I believe that .mpg is a really common type of file and I just can't believe that the web browser in my iBook G4 is not going to reproduce them....
    Thanks!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
In System Preferences>Quicktime>Advanced>Mime settings>MPEG, are all boxes selected (they ought to be)? If not, select all, and restart the computer. If all boxes are selected, does the same problem occur if using Safari in another User Account?
Creating a New User Account: Here is guidance from Apple on how to set up the account. You can ignore step 7 in the article.
Also, on the system preference>Accounts panel, click on "log-in" options. There, select "fast user switching". This allows you to go back and forth between user accounts via an icon in your Menu Bar at the top of the computer screen.
Log-on to the new account and start Safari. If the sites are accessible in the new account, then your problem is specific to your regular user account. Otherwise, similar response means a system-wide problem.

  • Safari 5 not playing streaming video

I updated to Safari 5 a couple days after it was released. Just today, it has stopped playing streaming content, such as videos from hulu. The only suggestion I found was to change the User Agent to Safari 4.1, but this didn't help. Any suggestions?

Have you tried resetting Safari? If that does not work try creating a new user account and test Safari with the new account. If the new account works it is possible that one of Safari's plist files is corrupt in your main user account.

  • Captivate 7 HTML 5 publish does not play multiple videos on same slide on Android devices

    Hello,
I have a captivate module which has 2 videos on same slide. There are 2 buttons, clicking on which the videos appears. However when i test this on iPad or any Android device, it plays on 1 video. I used Event video. Can someone please help me on this?
    Regards
    Manoj

I don't think you are missing anything. I am using the "Light_PAssage" animantion, but switching to the one you used has no impact.
For me, if there is a text animation on slide one, it will play in File->Preview->Play Slide. It will not play in FIle->Preview->Project, From this slide, or Next 5 slides.
The issue occurs in all my Captivate 5 projects, including projects that previously generated properly working outputs as recently as 2/23/2011.
Is it possible it's related to Flash player? I am using Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX 10.2.152.26.
I will send an example cptx to your email address. The example includes a blank slide one, and the text on slide 2 plays as expected in the previews and in the generated output. If I remove the blank slide 1, the text animation on the new slide 1 no longer plays.
    Thanks.

  • Quicktime playback sometimes does not play back Video

Recently upgraded to Snow leopard. Problem appeared after upgrade.
On some, not all, quicktime videos, the play back only has audio, no video. Quicktime ver. 7.6.3.
I have tried to upgrade to 7.6.4, but the installer won't let me, says I already have QT 10 installed. Even after I delete QT10, I still can't install it. I have reinstalled snow Leopard, and quicktime twice. Visited the genius bar, all with no luck.
    Also have 3ivx MPEG-4 installed.
Any ideas? This is a problem because the videos of a tutorial DVD that I purchased only plays back some of the QT videos. The DVD works fine on an old PB G4.
    Thanks

Open one of the non working files using QuickTime Player (Utilities folder) and then open the Movie Inspector window.
My guess is the files use Flash (.swf) tracks. QuickTime Player higher than 7.3.1 no longer plays Flash tracks.
You can't install 7.6.4 on Snow Leopard.
