Safari doesn't connect to the internet from my mailbox or from Google. I use a MAC, OS X version 10.8.4

My MAC desktop doesn't connect to the internet from an email or from  safari.  Only the first few letters of the web address I want to use appears in the address bar and then the wheel spins and spins non-stop.  Thanks for any suggestions on how to fix this problem.

Power off the router. Wait awhile. Power it back on. Wait until all the lights are lit up properly.
It will take a while.
Restart the computer.

    Hi Jake,
Is it connecting to the Router or Modem?
Is the new Router using maybe WPA2 encryption? If so, G4s can only do WPA or less.

The Interface that connects to the Internet, needs to be drug to the top of System Preferences>Network>Show:>Network Port Configurations and checked ON.
Instead of joining your Network from the list, click the WiFi icon at the top, and click join other network. Fill in everything as needed.
Then... Try putting these numbers in Network>Airport>TCP/IP>DNS Servers, for the Interface you connect with...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Then Apply.

  • E71 Doesn't connect to the internet

    Hi all
My E71 doesn’t' connect to the internet using SIM card it connects only by Wireless modem. I tried to format it and update the software many times, and still the same issue. I tried as well to re configure and install the access point and yet no internet. it is really a hectic  to me not to use GPS especially i travel much.

    Couple of things.
Make sure you get the correct settings for web access from your ISP (I'm assuming you have a plan with the ISP that gives you internet access - not all do), and make sure they are all entered correctly.
Start the web browser and goto Options > Settings > General > Access Point and make sure the ISP access point selected.
Internet access is not necessary in order to use GPS.
If I've helped you, you can thank me by clicking the green 'kudos' star on my post. Cheers.

  • Doesn't connect to the internet anymore

    Hi,
my macbook air doesn't connect to the internet anymore. Diagnostics don't find a solution, either.
    Network status as follows:
    wi-fi: green
    wi-fi settings: green
    Network settings: green
    isp: green
    Internet: Failed
    Server: Failed
I am writing this on a different apple computer using the same network, ISP and so on. Obviously, this one works, and so do a couple of other computers in the house. Hence it can't be a problem with the router, ISP or so. Must be a problem in the macbook air.
    WHo has an idea?

    From the menu bar, select
     ▹ System Preferences ▹ Network ▹ Advanced ▹ TCP/IP
What values are shown for the following?
    Configure IPv4
    IPv4 Address
    Subnet Mask

  • Safari will not connect to the internet

Safari will not connect to the internet on both a G5 and a MacBookPro that are routed through the same server.
    All networks settings are good
    DHCP is working
    DNS is correct
    IP is right
    Gateway is right
The network can see the macs and the macs can see the network......but the macs can't see the internet.

    Hi Duncan
MacFixit recently posted a report for subscribers testing 3rd party routers for Mac compatibility. 3 Routers did not do very well in the test:
    From their report:
    Routers:
    MacSense [Fair]
    Expressed support for Macs
Somewhat confusing process for installing firmware updates under Mac OS X
Manuals still show only Mac OS 9 screenshots/instruction
    D-Link [Fair]
Mac-specific section on Web site with ostensibly compatible routers
    Lack of Mac technical support
Firmware updates appear to apply specifically to Windows-related issues
Mac-specific "Quick Install" guides missing for most wireless router models -- even those listed in the Mac section
Some routers must be configured only with Firefox or an alternative browser -- Safari will not work
Reader comment: "I recently exchanged email with their tech support and was specifically informed that D-Link does not support Macs for any of their products and specifically does not recommend their use on Macs. Although many D-Link products will work on a Mac, as a user you are on your own. D-Link will not provide any direct or indirect support according to their tech support."
    Linksys [Poor]
Technically Mac-compatible but lacking in Mac-specific documentation or setup software
    No Mac technical support
Thought this info might be useful as you look into your router situation.

  • Safari no longer connects to the internet

I upgraded to OS Yosemite in my iMac (must be approaching 4 years old) and everything has been working fine.  Had a couple of applications where they closed unexpectedly, but nothing major and things have continued as they always have.  Apps have also automatically updated.   As of today, Safari will no longer connect to the internet and I keep getting the classic "the server unexpectedly dropped the connection" blurb and I kept being told that a disk that I hadn't put in the machine is not being recognized.
I'm typing this on my MacBook Air so I know that Safari can work fine (also having no problem with my iPad or iPhone) and there is no issue with my ISP' modem (I'm with Virgin Media), connector or Netgear wireless router.  Tonight I have performed a recovery install and now I have this annoying message saying how I need a particular Java plugin, which I can't sort out because Safari can't connect to the internet.  I have also performed a router reset, without remedy.
Logically, as I see it, the issue lies with Safari, and due to it being the only internet access on my iMac, I can't even download Firefox or access the App Store so looks like I can't update.  A friend is also having the same issues with his iPad, so I know this isn't just my iMac
Looking for some answers here?  Anyone?
    Thanks

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • I can no longer connect to the internet from any other device.

Having successfully upgraded to OS X Mavericks from Snow Leopard I can now no longer connect to the internet from  any other device.  I have an iPhone 4S, a Galaxy Tab, and an internet radio, none of which can connect to the internet since the upgrade.  They connect to my BT Home Hub without a hitch, it’s just that they do not connect at all to any website.  All was fine before the update.
The upgrade was to my iMac and that’s fine, no connection or surfing issues.

I have a iMac with a built in airport extreme card.  Does the imac act as a wireless router so that I can connect to the internet from my iPad by tethering through my iMac?

Depends which iMac exactly and your network setup, you can go into System Preferences and under the Sharing pane you can enable internet sharing from ethernet (or whereever you get your internet from) to Wi-Fi.

  • Cannot connect to the internet from my MAC on WRT160Nv2 - no problems connecting from my PC

    Hi,
I have just bought a WRT160Nv2, but I am having problems connecting to the internet from my MAC (a powerbook with OS X) when I connect to the router wirelessly. If I try from my PC the Internet works fine. Also if I connect the MAC directly to the routers LAN port, the Internet works.
When I connect wirelessly from the MAC I do get an IP adress, and I am able to access the routers web configuration page. I can also see that the correct DNS gets assigned, so I am low on suggestions to what could be the problem.
Currently I have the router set up to WPA2 encryption, but I have tried different settings, e.g. no security at all with the same result.
I just tried upgrading to the newest firmware (WRT160Nv2_v2.0.02_008), also with no luck.
Also I should mention that the MAC can connect to other wireless connections without problems, e.g. my previous ZyXel DSL router.
Any ideas to what could be the problem?
    Thanks,
    Rasmus

Well maybe WPA2 Security is not compatible with Mac so change the Security mode to WEP or WPA and prepare security key of 10 digit password and while connecting to the wireless network on Mac type a $ sign first followed by the 10 digit passoword and it should work.

    Anyone have a sollution?

  • WiFi doesn't connect to the internet.

I ran cccleaner for mac on my macbook 1,1 and now it doesn't connect to the internet. what should I do?

When you are connected, try Settings > WiFi and touch the blue > next to the network name. You should see your IP address (if it is 169, then there are other problems), subnet mask, the Router IP address, and the DNS address. If you do not see the last two, touch the DHCP button, scroll down and touch Renew Lease. Check your settings again. If they are there, you should be good to go.
If they are not, try this Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings and when your iPod restarts, log back into your network.
Be aware that some public networks require that you log in further via a web screen to actually access their network.

  • Safari won't connect to the internet (but computer is)

    Today,
None of our Macintosh (by Apple) devices will connect to the internet. Actually, only Safari says it won't connect to the internet.
If I run Terminal on our Macbook, I can ping yahoo.com, google.com, etc... Also, Skype works just fine. However, when we run Safari, no web page will load and we get the error screen saying that the computer is not connected to the internet. Running diagnostics (forget where it's located on the computer) says we are indeed connected (which I could tell from Skype and pinging).
Coincidentally, neither our iPhone or iPod can get to any web pages on Safari when connected to our wireless router. Using 3g network they access web pages fine. Our PC has no internet troubles today whatsoever.
Any idea why Safari doesn't work? Unfortunatley we don't have Firefox or Chrome on our Macbook to test it out, not sure how to download those without being able to access their respective web pages.
    Thanks!

Try turning off the router for 5 minutes, then turn it back on.
Restart your Mac as well as the iPhone and iPod.
If that doesn't help, on the Mac, go to /Library/Preferences/System Configuration
Move all the files from the System Configuration folder to the Trash.
Now on your iPhone and iPod tap Settings / General / Reset / Reset Network Settings
See if Safari will load pages.
If not, on your Mac, go to System Prerferences - Security.
If the Firewall is turned on, turn that off. Restart your Mac, Try Safari again.
Since you can access the net with 3G, it's got to be your Wi-Fi.
System Preferences / Network / Assist Me is where you find Diagnostics.
Make sure all the light are green. If not, click Continue.
