Safari doesn't load pages containing html5 canvas on iMac

Suddenly Safari either is very slow to load or doesn't load some pages at all.
I have tracked it down to be pages containing html5 canvas element.
This happens only on iMac and Macbook Air. It doesn't happen on iPad nor on Safari on a Pc. It will happen on the Mac computer both when the pages are out on the internet and when the pages ar locally stored. It's driving me absolutely mad!
I've tried emptying cache both through Safari menu and by removing Safari's Cache.db, I've reset Safari preferences, restarted, and changed DNS to Open DNS (though it seems strange it should be an issue since the problem also occurs when I run the site on localhost).
If I open the page directly entering the url in the adressbar it works fine, it is when I try to access it from a link on another page on the site it doesn't load. If I press reload it will load fine. The link from other pages can be either an html <a href="url"> tag or javascript window.location or window.location.href neither works. The weird thing is it worked fine until just yesterday. And it works fine on every other machine except the Macintoshes. WHY

Hi Carolyn,
Thanks for the quick reply. I've tried everything you wrote now, however the problem remains.
One thing I've noted though is that the page actually loads but it takes very very long time, and sometimes when the pages have been loaded the images doesn't look quite right until I hit the reload button.
I've been thinking about another thing, there are a lot of effects like round corner, shape and text shadow, can it be these that cause the problem? I still think it is very strange though that it all of a sudden stopped working and that running it on PC or iPad everything is just fine.
Another thing to add is that the computer is very new just got it like 2-3 weeks ago, and haven't hardly added anything except got Xcode, macVim, firefox and Filezilla.
Also just before the problem appeared I ran a page with javascript that had me caught in an endless loop of alerts. Got that fixed, but ever since that some pages won't load correclty...
Is there possibly anything else I can do to fix this?

  • Safari doesn't load pages properly

I'm developing a website but I'm having problems with Safari. So far I've tested the website as follow:
    PC:
    IE 6, 7, 8
    FireFox
    Mac:
    Safari
    FireFox
Where not specified the browser's version is the latest.
    The website is at http://www.douglasinscotland.co.uk/
I'm experiencing this problem in Safari for Mac only. The website is within a main frame as this method is forced by the hosting provider.
The problem: when browsing quickly between different pages in the website often the page don't seem to load properly. Instead of appearing with a consistent dark background, it appears with some white blocks as if the browser failed to load properly the background colour for certain parts of the page. To experience it you need to click several times on the menu in the top right of the website.
I've tried this from a different Mac in a friend's house and it's happening the same.
I've used CSS and some JavaScripts on the pages.
It happens when tested in local too, therefore it doesn't seem to be a problem related to the frameset or the hosting.
Could anybody please give me a clue where to look at to solve this annoying problem?
    Thanks

  • Safari doesn't load pages, Not able to quit Mail.

Hi, I'm having real troubles with my Safari an Mail. Hope that there is anyone out there knowing what is going on.
safari always starts to load the page but then freezes and stays like that forever.
there is no colored ball circling around and it does not affect the system. it just starts loading and stops right at the beginning.
i am also able to quit safari properly (cmd+q)!
when i open it again, most of the time the same thing is happening.
it seems like there is no internet connection but firefox works and safari is usually telling me if this is the case so this can not be the problem...
sometimes safari works properly (after relaunching it) for some time but then this "bug" suddenly (re)appears.
a little hint: it might have something to do with my user account because i had the same problem at my old macbook pro and i took over the old account via time capsule (only my music folder! no preferences or any other files was the plan but tc decided also to take over my whole old library...)
i have already emptied the caches and reseted safari.
    i also tried deleting:
    form values
    download.plist
    com.apple.Safari.plist
like the guy here at the apple support community adviced at this thread
and here is where it really gets weird:
always when safari does this kind of thing mail is not loading my mails either nor am i able to shut it down completely.
the window disappears but it is still running.
this is how far it is loading:
i'm counting on all of you and hoping for some help

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account, or is system-wide. Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select “Help” from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Any application you run will behave as if you were running it for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
As Guest, launch the application(s) and test. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.

  • Safari doesn't load pages first time?

    Hi
I am having a problem with Safari both on my Macbook Pro (2008) and Mac Mini (2011). The Macbook is running Snow Leopard and the Mini running Lion.
When I boot my computers up and open Safari web pages tend not to load first time and to get them to load I have to go to another site then back to the one I was trying to get on. E.g - I click on my Facebook bookmark but it doen't load so I then have to click another bookmark such as Amazon which loads but then I click Facebook again and it loads! Its only started happening recently but I just cant work it out. My systems are fully up to date etc and my broadband connection is working fine.
If anybody could help, would be great!

  • Safari 6 intermittently not loading images or doesn't load pages.

Not sure if anyone else is having any issues like this. Safari doesn't load pages at all or pictures just do not load at all. It seems like if I restart my browser and try to go to the page again I can get pages to load but not always. Its not the Internet speed or the speed of my computer. I'm thinking it might be an issue with the Virus Scanner that I'm using??? Avast. Any Ideas????

I had the same problem until today and I hope this helps.  I'm always emptying the caches and probably in a hurry I did not noticed that instead of emptying the caches I went a little bit farther and hit the disable images button.  So, go to Develop Menu and make sure that disable images is uncheked.

  • Safari is not loading pages correctly or even not at all. Help please!

So my Safari is not loading pages correctly, making some have just plain text with no images, and others partially loaded with no images or no video.
Some pages, after trying to refresh, completely refuse to load and say that Safari can't find the server. These pages work on firefox, which is also on the same computer and what I am having to use to type this currently.
I have already reset Safari, as well as disabled extensions (which I didn't have any) and neither has fixed the issue.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

  • Safari will not load pages after logging into certain sites

Mac OS X 10.4.11, Safari 3.1 running on a Power Macintosh G4 "Quicksilver" 2002. All software updates are installed.
After I log into certain web sites (Apple Support Discussions being one of them), Safari simply stops loading pages. It will "try" briefly but each page comes up blank. In fact, they don't even appear to download.
This has been going on for a while now. I can't even remember when it started. I have done fresh installations of Mac OS X on to a clean disk to try and solve the problem. This has not resulted in any improvement. I am not using any extensions or modifiers.
As an experiment, I've tried a few Webkit Nightly Builds. Those did not work any better.
On some sites, such as eBay, Safari will put an empty file on the desktop. eBay is a prime example--after I sign in, an empty file called eBayIsapi.dll appears on the desktop.
Seemingly this has been reported other places. What I didn't find was a fix. Is there anything that can be done to resolve this problem?

I've just given up after several versions of Safari doing the same thing. It seems to be a bad interaction with Websense web filtering blocking some things that Safari expects to be able to download and process.
I don't even use Safari any more because of this.

  • Safari doesn't load redirect page

    Hi everybody,
I have an activation mail for subscribers.
It contains a link like :
    http://oneSite/do/something?param=yeah&url=https%3a%2f%2fanotherSite/do/somethin g/else%3fparam1=tata%26param2=titi&trolollo=true
On ipad using safari (and only there) clicking it does the redirection (I can see the correct url on the new tab) but doesn't load the page. It stays blank.
It also appens on ipad simulator.
However using "open in a new tab" or pasting it in url bar works well they're not really userfriendly behaviors.
Has anyone an idea about a workaround  ?

  • Safari doesn't load a special page

    hello,
I've got a problem with Safari. It doesn't load a special page. I always got a timeout. It's the admin page from my pixelpost site. Other Browsers like Firefox or Camino etc didn't work too, but when I start Parallels and load this page in Internet Explorer all browsers under Mac OS X works perfect after I load it once in windows.
Deleting cache or deinstalling Safari completly and reinstall with Pacifist didn't solve the problem. I couldn't explain it for me, so I hope that some of you know a solution.
I've got always the newest version of all Mac OS X Browsers
    Thank you,
    Marek

    Hi again Marek,
Thanks for the info, perhaps some one will pipe in with more for you, I hope so.
I suggest you look at Parallels support, & contact them.
See if there is an update for it, that may help.
Other wish if I were you i would try uninstalling the Parallels software,
to see if that makes any difference to your accessabity to said site.
It is indicated that it may be the issues simce you say you can load the page if the application parallels is running, it's as if you mac is behaving like a windows box.

I don't know how else to help, good luck! & please keep us posted.

  • WHY is Safari failing to load pages on my late 2013 MBP retina?

I have the latest OS and Safari on my machine.  Safari is not usable.  Every now and then, I can go to a web page in a reasonable amount of time but, more often, the page either doesn't load (the blue shading in the address bar stops after about an inch and freezes) or the page takes several minutes to load. This computer is too new to be having these kinds of issues.....
I know the next step (according to Apple support) is to reinstall the OS, which I will do once back up is complete.  Here's what I've done previously, to no avail:  confirmed that there are no extensions, reset Safari multiple times, deleted the plist file from the Library, repaired disk permissions, shut down, restarted, restarted in safe mode, etc.  Regarding the repair permissions - there is always a Safari permission that needs to be repaired. Same one every time.  Not that repairing permissions was a fix.....
I am hoping the reinstall works but I'm frustrated that this is happening on a new, very expensive computer.  I want to understand what the root cause is....any ideas about what is broken and how it got broken?  Thanks.

Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them. In that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If not, do that now and see whether there's any change.
If your browser is Safari, then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    and confirm. Any change?
If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, select the Advanced tab in the Preferences window and uncheck the box marked
    Stop plug-ins to save power
    Any change?
Quit and relaunch the browser. Any change?
Log out and log back in. Any change?
Enable Private Browsing in the Safari menu. Any change?
Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test. Any change?
If Parental Controls is active for any user, please turn it off and test. Any change?
If only Safari is affected, launch the Activity Monitor application and enter "web" (without the quotes) in the search box. If a process named "Safari Web Content" is shown in red or is using more than about 5% of a CPU, select it and force it to quit by clicking the X or Quit Process button in the toolbar of the window. There may be more than one such process. Any improvement?
Again, if only Safari is involved, open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the box marked Safari, if it's checked. Any change?
Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they affected?
If you can test Safari on another network, is it the same there?
If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?

  • Safari won't load pages with pictures after installing Maverick

I have an older iMac (2008), but it runs great and I have no problems with it.  Except now that i installed Maverick, now Safari doesn't work properly.  For most things, it works fine, then It will quit in the middle of a page.  Or, I have uploaded photos to the Walmart site and had pictures printed.  I can now access everything on that site except my photos and projects.  I get all the background ads and stuff, but not the actual photos.  That part of the page is blank.  There is not eeven the box with the question mark.  I kow they are still there because I can open them with Chrome.  I have tried all the tips I can find here, plus, I have tried Customer support for the website I am having problems with.  The CS people tell me it probably is a temporary problem, but I don't think they are Mac peaple.  So, far, nothing I have tried has helped.  I did have this same type of problem when I upgraded the last time, but was able to fix the problem.  Just wish I could remember how I fixed it.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Safari won't load pages

I'm running 4.0.5 and off and on over the last few months it would just stop loading pages. I have it open up to the thumbnail view of the top sites and whether I would click on one of those or click on a site in the bookmark bar, it just shows it thinking. It doesn't freeze, I don't get the beach ball, it just doesn't load the page. As I mentioned, it has done this off and on for the last several months but it usually fixed itself if I let it sit for a few minutes. Over the last two days, it doesn't matter how long I leave it sit while trying to load a page, it just doesn't work.
    Ideas?

    Welcome to the forums!
(First, if yours is an Intel Mac, check that Safari is not running in Rosetta, which is enough to slow it to a crawl. If you are running Snow Leopard, run Safari in 32 bit not 64 bit. Control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode)
Do you have enough RAM? Less than 1GB can cause slowness. Is your hard drive too full? Less than 15%, or 15GB, of free space can also cause slowness.
Adding DNS codes to your Network Preferences, should give good results in terms of speed-up as well as added security:
If you are using a single computer: Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(You can also enter them if you click on Advanced and then DNS)
Sometimes reversing the order of the DNS numbers can be beneficial in cases where there is a long delay before web pages start to load, and then suddenly load at normal speed:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2296
If your computer is part of a network: please refer to this page: http://www.opendns.com/start/bestpractices/#yournetwork and follow the advice given.
(An explanation of why using Open DNS is both safe and a good idea can be read here: http://www.labnol.org/internet/tools/opendsn-what-is-opendns-why-required-2/2587 /
Open DNS also provides an anti-phishing feature: http://www.opendns.com/solutions/homenetwork/anti-phishing/ )
Wikipedia also has an interesting article about Open DNS:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenDNS
Whilst in System Preferences/Network you should also turn off 'IPv6' in your preference pane, as otherwise you may not get the full speed benefit (the DNS resolver will default to making SRV queries). If you want to know what IPv6 is:
This is Apple's guidance on iPv6:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8708.html
Click on Apply Now and close the window.
    Restart Safari, and repair permissions.
If that didn't do it, then try this as well:
Empty Safari's cache (from the Safari menu), then close Safari.
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete the following files:
    form values
    download.plist
Then go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete
    com.apple.Safari.plist
    Repair permissions (in Disk Utility).
Start up Safari again, and things should have improved.

  • Safari doesn't load after upgrade to 5.1

Following the recent OS update to 10.6.8 and the Safari upgrade to 5.1, Safari will not load any internet page (it doesn't freeze. This only happens with my user and it works perfectly for another user. I removed my plugins, cookie files, safari.plist, removed and reinstalled safari but nothing helped.
    Any suggestions?

Just your user account? That's the good part, at least it's not a system wide issue.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Security tab.
    Deselect:  Enable plug ins
Quit then relaunch Safari. If pages load then it's a third party add preventing pages from loading. This can happen when an add on was compatibility with the prior version of Safari but not 5.1.
I see your check plugins but they are easy to miss.
    Check these folders:
    Manually uninstall third-party add-ons
If the software doesn't have an uninstall feature, quit Safari and try manually removing the third-party add-on files. These files are usually installed in one or more of the following locations:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
    /Library/Input Methods/
    /Library/InputManagers/
    /Library/ScriptingAdditions
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
    ~/Library/Input Methods/
    ~/Library/InputManagers/
    ~/Library/ScriptingAdditions
The first four locations listed are in the root-level Library on your hard disk, not the user-level Library in your Home folder.
The tilde (~) represents your Home folder.
You should also check Extensions. Back to the Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Extensions tab. If you have any installed, turn that off, quit then relaunch Safari to test.

  • Safari does not load page completely

On some pages, Safari loads pages partially. For instance, if I go to "theweathernetwork.com" (which is a page that contains sub-windows), some times, it loads only the first sub-window of the page and not the entire page. I have to refresh the page several times to get the entire page displayed completely. I have the same problem with other sites. That seems to occur randomly.
