Safari doesn't recognize flash on macbook air

Since upgrading to Mavricks 10.9.2 everytime I go to a website that runs flash I am asked to install.  HBOGO, netflix, youtube.  It is telling me that I need to download and install the newest version.  I've installed it twice, with no luck.
Any advice?

If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 8. Back up all data before making any changes.
Step 1
You might have to log out or reboot before a Flash update takes effect.
Step 2
In the Safari preference window, select
Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
Close the window. Then select
 ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.
Step 3
If you're only having trouble with YouTube videos, log in to YouTube and load this page. You may see a link with the text "Leave the HTML5 Trial." If so, click that link.
Step 4
If you get a warning of a "blocked" or "outdated" plug-in, then from the menu bar select
 ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Check Now. Quit and relaunch the browser.
If the warning persists, triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Inside it, there should be a file named "XProtect.meta.plist". If that file is missing and you know why it's missing, restore it from a backup or copy it from another Mac running the same version of OS X. Otherwise, reinstall OS X.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
Step 5
In the Safari preferences window, select the Advanced tab and uncheck the box marked
Stop plug-ins to save power
Step 6
Open this folder as in Step 4:
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
Step 7
Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from the domain "get.adobe.com". Don't click a link from any other website, including this one, because you can't trust links. They may be an attempt to trick you into installing malware masquerading as Flash. Type the address into the browser window. Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
Step 8
If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked
Allow (or Enable) plug-ins
Then click the button marked
Manage Website Settings...
if present and make sure that the website is not blocked for Flash.
Step 9
Select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.

  • After new OS update Safari doesn't recognize Flash Player.

After updating to OS 10.9.4, Safari says "No Flash Player detected" when I try to run several of my web based programs even though I have no problem with the same web based programs when using Firefox. Additionally, this issue only exists when using the administrator account. There is no problem when using my other account set up for my students.

In the list of plugins on the left, there should be one—and only one—entry for "Adobe Flash Player," showing the same version number that you installed. Select that entry. On the right there will be a list of websites for which you have specifically allowed Flash, if any. It's normal for the list to be empty. Below that is a menu labeled
              When visiting other websites
From that menu, select either Allow or Ask.
    b. If you still get the alerts, then go back to the Flash Player preference pane and select the Advanced tab. Click Check Now. Quit and relaunch the browser.

    All,
A very interesting NOTE to this thread. In order to try and get the "ignore permissions" box to show up in GET INFO (so I could execute Matt the Magician's solution to file sharing issues)-- I ran the terminal command for disabling ACLs on my internal HD / start up disk (as indicated in the linked thread to BDAqua's forum).
Although I understand that this was useless for disabling permissions on the start up disk (as everyone here pointed out) and allowing me to see the "ignore permissions" check box - somehow it did seem to fix my file sharing problem...and that was the root problem I wanted solved in the first place! After doing the terminal command and a quick reboot, I went in and tested file sharing on the chosen directory and I can create new files or work from existing files in the directory, with both users being able to modify / and save from both machines and each machine sees the revisions and can build from them. Bottom line - I'm stoked and want to thank everyone for their help.
The only other tweak I made was going over to my wife's machine and instead of using her log in / password, I just used my name and password to connect to my main machine that was sharing directories. Maybe that's what fixed the problem or the ACL disable but either way...I'm up and running the way I want to be.
Hope this thread helps anyone else who has these file sharing / permissions issues with Leopard. Especially for anyone wanting to do such a simple file sharing set up between 2 computers. I wish I understood exactly which tweak fixed the problem, but at least it works the way I want now.
So happy to be done w/this one!
Thx everyone. Any additional input on what solved it is welcome, so my curiosity is quelled...

  • Safari doesn't recognize latest upload into iPhoto since installing 10.6

I use a website that requires me to upload photos. However, ever since I foolishly installed Snow Leopard Safari doesn't recognize the latest photos in iPhoto until after I close and re-open Safari. Indeed, sometimes that doesn't even work. Any ideas, or is Snow Leopard Apple's ME and no hope for a solution?

I suggest you back up your Mac, then use Software Update (in the preferences window) to install the update.
Interesting. I get better results with the Combo updaters:

(.. and I run Disk Utility -> Repair Permissions after every software install or update.)

  • Safari 7.0.5 freeze on MacBook Air

I have a MacBook Air that is having problems with the latest Safari.  I have Mavericks 10.9.4.  It happens often that I am using Safari fine and then it will pause trying to load a site.  The progress bar starts to move and then stops and never finishes.  At that point I cannot quit Safari without the dreaded spinning pizza wheel of death.  If I force quit Safari, I can but then I cannot Shut Down the MacBook.  It blanks the screen but never turns off.  So I have to manually turn it off.  I have tried using Firefox but have not had this same error.  I only have two extensions - Adblock and 1Password.
I have run Disk Utilities, Disk Warrior, cleaned out my Safari Cache.  Nothing seems to keep it from reoccurring.  It does not freeze each time I use Safari, just some times.  Hard to pin down.  I have my diagnostics report below.  The last freeze was today at 20:36 - I live in Europe.
Thanks for any help and advice you can give.

Remove "Bluecoat" and see whether there's an improvement.
Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
I never install system modifications myself, and (unless otherwise specified in this comment) I don't know how to uninstall them. You'll have to do your own research to find that information.
Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickMyMac” (a hypothetical example.) First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickmymac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickMyMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickMyMac.” If not, open “BrickMyMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button. The uninstaller might also be accessed by clicking the Customize button, if there is one.
Back up all data before making any changes.
You will generally have to restart the computer in order to complete an uninstallation. Until you do that, there may be no effect, or unpredictable effects.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase and install OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
WARNING: Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" such as "AppCleaner" and the like that purport to remove software.

  • Copying Mail, Safari, Firefox Settings, etc. to new MacBook Air

I'm getting my girlfriend a new 11" MacBook air for Christmas.  She now has an older white MacBook that has a dying display.  I want to set up the new Mac for her so everything is seamless.
Most of this won't be a problem, since I know her administrator password, wi-fi settings, etc., and I can easily copy her documents.  She doesn't use any 3rd party software at all, other than Firefox and Carbon Copy Cloner.
However, I want to be sure that I can copy all of her Mail messages, Mail account info and settings, as well as her bookmarks for Safari & Firefox over to the new Mac.  I will also want to copy and update her iPhoto library.
Her old MacBook is running Snow Leopard, 10.6.8, and of course, the new Air will have Mountain Lion.  She does have an external backup drive with a clone of her internal drive.
A few years back, I saw a post in these forums giving the exact location of all of the above mentioned files for transfer, but I can't seem to find anything like that now.  I'm also wondering if any locations for these items have changed with Lion and/or Mountain Lion.
And my final question is:  is the migration assistant dependable enough now to handle this, rather than me just doing it manually?
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give.

Migration Assistant can do this without issues. Setup Assistant will ask you to restore the backup

  • Facebook doesn't recognize flash player

I'm have the most recent flash player and Internet Explorer, running Win 8.1. When I try to upload photos on Facebook I'm shown a prompt that says I don't have flash. I click the link, am taken to adobe where I'm told that I do have flash but am not running IE in Win 8. I've gone through the whole checklist of enabling shockwave (it was never disabled) and turing off active x filters (also already in that condition) and can't seem to get Facebook to accept that I've done everything it says that it needs me to do.
I've installed firefox to see if that would work, it gave me the same "need flash" prompt so I uninstalled and reinstalled the newest flash player. Now firefox allows me to batch upload photos but IE still thinks I don't have flash and adobe.com still thinks that I'm not running IE.
Is there anything I can do to make your product work in internet explorer?

It's NOT that Facebook doesn't rrecognize Flash Player. It doesn't recognize IE11, and if it can't recognize the browser, it won't recognize the plugins in the browser. Microsoft is aware of the problems with their new browser, but... they're in no hurry to fix it.
Microsoft's recommendation is to use Compatibility View for affected pages, and "pretend" you're using a different browser. Trouble with that is... it's seen limited success at best, and you have to individually enable it for EVERY page that has problems.
I'm not big on "pretending" so I recommend actually using another browser.
    Firefox (from Mozilla)
    Opera (from Opera)
    Safari (from Apple)
    Chrome (from Google)
ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in.

  • Safari doesn't find Flash

    Hello,
I try to open a website (www.cousteau.org) but Safari tells me that I must install flash player. But when I watch installed plug-in for safari i saw that flash player has been installed. I don't understand why safari didn't find flash plug-in.
On this forum I found several solutions :
    - restaure disk autorizations
    - uninstall flash plug-in
the first one did't solve my problem and I am not able to uninstall flash (I am a new mac user and I don't know wher I can delete installed files).
    Help is welcome.

Welcome to Apple Discussions and Mac Computing
The problem is not with your system or browser. The problem lies with the web developer. Seems the site is not Mac friendly as it does not work on either Safari, Opera, Camino or Firefox on my system. The site message: This site makes use of Flash 5. To experience it the way we intended, you need Macromedia Flash Player 5, a plug-in for your Wed Browser that can play the content we've created. Strange, as Flash is now up to Version 9. Either, something is wrong with the site in general (all platforms are affected), or the coding does not recognize the Mac browsers.
To contact the web developer you will need to access the site on a Windows system. Perhaps, you may encourage them to move up from the ocean depths into the 21st century.

  • Safari doesn't recognize http addresses

    When I input:
    http://www.devon-technologies.com/files/academy/devonthink/videos/videotutorial- 1.mov
to safari, I get the error message:
Safari can’t open “http://www.devon-technologies.com/files/academy/devonthink/videos/videotutorial- 1.mov” because Mac OS X doesn’t recognize Internet addresses starting with “http:”.
Huh? firefox had no problems opening the page.

Thanks for the response. Two questions:
    1. I should know this, but it's been a long time, how do I create a new account? I know the account manager will allow to designate the new account as an admin.
    2. Why is a new account needed?

  • AE CC doesn't recognize GPU on MacBook Pro Retina 15'

Hi I've installed the latest After Effects CC 2014 version and it doesn't recognize my GPU.
Following previous thread advice, I've also installed the latest CUDA driver version 6.5.37 and restarted the computer.
I have a MacBook Pro Retina 15' running on OS X Yosemite with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB card.
I can't make the program recognize the GPU, how can I solve this?????

In the advanced secation select the option to use an unsupported card. There are several threads on this.

  • Firefox doesn't recognize FLASH after update, no matter what. Also says to update plugins but there are none to update listed?

I have downloaded & re-downloaded FLASH, but after I updated my Firefox to 22.0 it no longer recognizes FLASH is installed on my computer. It also keep telling me "Some plugins required by this page have been blocked for your protection." When I check the plugins, the 3 listed are up to date, and the other 3 are marked "research" - which doesn't allow you to update them. I cannot discern that any of those are what is being blocked. When I click on Details, it brings me to a list of "Modules bloqués" and it's all listed in French...which would be great if spoke French or lived in France, but alas California is in the USA. My Java is updated, enabled & not blocked in any way. My Shockwave Flash is disabled & it will not give me the option to Enable it; I also cannot find a way to reinstall it or find a plugin to help me. !@#$%! So frustrating that this new "update" is useless. I hate 22.0.
    What do I do now?

Your System Details List shows that some plugins are blocklisted and Flash is included:
    # plugin.blocklisted.flash: True
    # plugin.blocklisted.java: True
    # plugin.blocklisted.nppdf: True
Which version of the Flash plugin do you have installed if you check that in Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > > Plugins?
You will have to update Flash to make it work.
You can find the latest Flash player versions for Firefox on this page.

  • Safari 6 very slow on MBA/MacBook Air.

I have a MacBook Air which is less than a year old. Granted, it is only the 2gb but for most things it does well. However, running Safari -- especially the latest version 6 -- is painfully slow on this machine. The same version of Safari on my iMac at home does not seem to have the same issue (or at least not nearly to this degree). And I do not have this issue with Firefox or Chrome (Opera does seem to have a similar issue)
Has anyone else had this issue on their MBA? Is it simply a memory issue with Safari being such a memory hog that it needs more than 2gb physical ram to run? Or perhaps it is just a CPU hog? Or perhaps there is something else which I have overlooked that would make a difference? Any thought/suggetions, anyone? I'd really like to speed up Safari on this machine. Safari's ability to save live links when saving a webpage to PDF is unique and much too usefull to make abandoning Safari an option for me.
    Thank you.

Take these steps when you notice the problem.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the page that opens.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. What approximate values are shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec?
    Step 2
You must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way as above. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Post the 50 or so most recent messages in the log — the text, please, not a screenshot.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out before posting.
