Safari Downgrade

How do you downgrade Safari? I got auto-upgraded to 3.0.4 this week, and several web sites I need don't work any more. Their javascript buttons don't appear and don't work.
No worries, I uninstalled Safari, and ran the SafariSetup program. Now I have Safari 3.0. When I go to Software Update, my only choice is Safari 3.0.4. Since that doesn't work, I'd rather get 3.0.3 that Software Update installed back in August. It's a shame that Software Update knows it installed 3.0.3 in August, but doesn't know how to do it anymore. I've searched in downloads for 3.0.3, but all the pages seem to want to send me the most current = broken version.
Is there a "detailed" mode for Software update, or an ordinary "previous versions" download site?

there were two of them. the "old" interface 3.0.3. which was for download on apple.com like a week ago and the newer one 310A16 i think. it already had the new interface and worked pretty well for me. since upgrading to the new 3.0.4. i have sites that won't work at all. i mean safari just crashes whenever i open them. i can't figure out why. for example appleinsider.com crashes. merrian-webster dictionary crashes. i noticed that on vista. my girlfriend has a xp pro pc and safari 3.0.4. and it works like a charm.

  • Safari downgrade from 3 to 2 problems?

I recently upgraded to the Safari version 3 beta and found it to be too buggy - especially as regards its inability to handle PDFs and the fact that it is incompatible with eBay UK - and I finally had to give up on it, uninstall and go back to version 2.
Now I find that pages on my own website, which redirect to a login page, which worked flawlessly before, now do not work at all and I get this error: "The error was: “lost network connection” (NSURLErrorDomain:-1005)"
Does anyone know if downgrading back to version two causes problems, because now my beloved Safari seems to be broken!?
    Cheers,
    PeteBell UK

    Hi
The "error" message for Apple Discussions is a problem that has been going on for the past month. After logging-in, the Error page appears. Go back to the original URL and select it again. The correct page will now load.
Specific to your other problem, back to the Finder, drag to the desktop the com.apple.safari.plist folder found in your User Account>Library>Preferences folder.
Restart Safari. Select your URL. If this works you'll need to reset your Safari preferences to your liking, plus any custom settings found in the Edit Menu (spelling) or View Menu (status bar, bookmarks bar, custom icons in the "Customize Address Bar" ).
Otherwise, move the original file on your desktop back to its original location.

  • HT5502 how to download safari 6.0.1

How to get safari 6.0.1 please

It might be faster to contact the Apple store or reseller or Apple support in your particular region, and request assistance more directly.
To continue here, please tell us what OS X version you have now, what version of Safari you have installed, and what's happening with Safari when it's not working.
Some general details follow — I'm not clear on what's happening here — and I do not know what if any of the following will apply to your case.
There is no Apple-provided separate Safari upgrade — nor any Safari downgrade — for OS X.  It's part of the OS X installation and upgrade kits.
If some version of Safari was directly onto your OS X system through some means other than with an OS X update and if something has gone wrong with the results of that, then reinstalling the most recent combo update or reinstalling the whole operating system are the usual paths to resolution.
If some version of Safari was not installed here and there are problems with a standard Mountain Lion installation, then try the following.  If you have any Safari extensions or plug-ins or any "haxies" (input managers) around, try disabling or removing them, and test Safari again.  Alternatively, try a completely different login, and see if Safari works in that other user login.
If you have an older OS X release and need to do Mountain Lion development, then you will need to purchase and upgrade to a newer version of OS X.  The OS X version upgrade — and subsequent OS X updates — will upgrade Safari.
Here is a previous (and details) discussion of the available OS X upgrade path; of acquiring 10.6 Snow Leopard if you need that, then of acquiring either 10.7 Lion or Mountain Lion 10.8 — depending on whether your Mac is supported by Mountain Lion.  If your Mac is not supported by Mountain Lion, then there is no supported way to use it to develop for Mountain Lion.

  • Viewing PDFs in Safari in 64-bit mode - how?

For me, in 64 bit mode, Safari insists on using Preview to view PDFs (and which is slow and clunky).
If I make Safari downgrade itself to 32 bit mode, it properly calls up Acrobat to view PDFs.
How can I have Safari running in native 64 bit mode and call up Acrobat to view PDFs on webpages? Or is it not possible?

If you have Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat Pro installed, the plugin they install to view PDF files in Safari is not 64-bit compatible. Aside from that, unless you have more than 4 GB of RAM installed in your machine, you will not benefit in any way from running Safari or any other application in 64-bit mode, so you should be running everything in 32-bit mode.
Because Safari is perfectly capable of rendering PDF files on it's own, you need to ditch Adobe Reader or Acrobat Pro, or at the very least, deactivate them so they are not called when you want to view a PDF file. To do that:
    Quit Safari if it's running.
Start Adobe Reader and/or Acrobat Pro.
Go to Preferences > Internet and uncheck the box at the top where it says "Display PDFs in browser using:", or something similar to that.
Quit Adobe Reader and/or Acrobat Pro and restart Safari to test it.

  • Safari and Naxos Library

I have a subscription to the Naxos library which lets me play the full version of items of music ( I am not sure of the format). It worked OK until about May which coincided with my latest update of Safari. Now Safari freezes when I try to play and I have to use 'force quit'. I have run out of things to try! I thought it might be a problem with mp3 files but cannot find a fix.

    Hi
solved? no, hardly. but at least you can listen now & it shows the plugins needed are installed & working ok outside safari.
downgrade? sure - I suggest you firstly try http://michelf.com/projects/multi-safari/ which has complete stand-alone packages of Safari 3.0.4 and the various system files needed to run it. IF that works with Naxos, then you could either just carry on using it, or look to downgrade the system.
the difficulty is that each new version of safari includes a number of system files that aren't part of the safari application, but are necessary for it to run properly....whilst it's sometimes possible to simply replace the safari app with a previous one ( from your other mac say ) it doesn't always work out.
see how you go with safari 3.0.4 Tiger from Multisafari - & we'll take it from there.... meantime, mebbe someone will check out naxos for you with 3.1.1 ?

  • Reinstalling 10.3.9 update - is this a bad?

What happens when you re-install the combo update? As in; I've already installed the update, and I want to run it again to see if it fixes a problem I have with Safari. (downgraded to Safari 1.2, but now it won't let me upgrade to 1.3 again).
Can running the same update more than once help or muck things up? (in general, not just with my Safari issue)
    Thanks.
    Powerbook 15 1.25 Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    JP007,
The fact that you have already removed all Safari packages may be a complicating factor. Do you know which .pkg files were removed. I believe that the system has to have some evidence of which version of Safari is installed for any update to work correctly. If the .pkg evidence is incomplete or contains erroneous information it will cause update problems.
I do not know of any other location that will contain evidence or influence update procedures.
My recommendation would be to consider an using an Archive and Install procedure. After the Archive and Install use the Mac OS X Combined Update 10.3.9.

  • 10.5 to 10.3 to 10.5 again

I recently upgraded to Leopard, lost my server, printer, and VPN, so downgraded again to 10.3.9. Unfortunately, I lost all preferences and Safari downgrading, and desperately need some of those back. I need to upgrade again to find those lost files. I archived the upgrade, and it is on "Previous System". Is there a way to make that active again without reloading the system from disk?

Sorry, but no. The archived system is merely that - an archive. It cannot be reactivated. You would need to do another 10.5 installation.. However, your old network settings may still be contained in the PSF if you did not select the option to preserve them when you did the Archive and Install. Perhaps you just need to reconfigure your server, printer, and VPN preferences/settings. Also be sure you update your 10.5 system to 10.5.5 or 10.5.6.

  • How do I downgrade Safari 4.0.3 to 4.0.2?

I use Saft for Safari and it hasn't been updated yet. I'd like to downgrade to 4.0.2. until that happens. Is there an easy way to do it? I have Time Machine backups from before I did the upgrade. Can I simply retrieve the Safari 4.0.2 app from one of those backups and replace 4.0.3 with it?

Have you tried basics from the manual?

  • Upgrade Safari 1.2 to 1.3.1 after downgrade from Tiger to Panther

I wished to restore performance to my G3 iBook by downgrading from Tiger to Panther, and have been successful with that and have restored all apps to Panther versions except for Safari. The downgrade (archive and install) left Safari 2.0 on my HD for some reason, which of course wouldn't launch under 10.3.9. I dragged Safari 2 to the trash, downloaded Safari 1.2 which installed fine. However when I try to upgrade now to 1.3.1, I am told by the installer that the software cannot be used with the disc volume (the system volume) I choose to install to.
(BTW, invoking Software Update says my software is all up to date, even though I'm only on Safari 1.2.)
I've seen the other threads which have suggested removing Safari pkg receipts from /library/receipts, but this hasn't helped me in this case; I can't find any thread that had a successful resolution yet. Anything else anyone can suggest? Many thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You can try using Pacifist to extract Safari from your install disk and install it. You may then be able to upgrade it more easily, although I can't promise that for sure.
Unless you are absolutely wedded to Safari, I find Camino to be at least as good (I think better) as Safari, and looks almost identical, so that there should not be much of a learning curve. I also use Firefox and especially like it for the measure of security it provides.
Please do not hesitate to post back with further questions or comments.
    Good luck.

  • Downgrade from Safari 4 to 3?

I am sure most people reading this forum know of issues with Safari 4. Let me just say that at home on my Intel iMac running Leopard it works great. At work on my PPC G5 tower it does not. I'm running 10.4.11. Let me reference this archived thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9592963#9592963
I used Pacifist to install 3.2.3 directly over v4 and while it installed and is running 3.2.3, I am experiencing the same issues I was before. Certain web pages won't load, like LinkedIn discussions, ebay, and even these discussion boards. Others load verrrry slowly, like the main Apple page.
Here's the Apple Discussions error message:
    "Request Timeout
The server timed out while waiting for the browser's request.
    Reference #2.90f302cc.1262892593.0"
The message I get when trying to visit LinkedIn discussion is:
    "Safari can’t open the page.
Safari can’t open the page “ http://www.linkedin.com/e/vaq/11618634/51983/10107906/view_disc/” because the server where this page is located isn’t responding."
Before installing 4, I never had these issues. I had been using Panther for ages and Safari 2 couldn't handle newer web content. I upgraded to Tiger and Safari 3 worked great. Then when prompted to upgrade to 4, these problems started.
As I said above, I downgraded using Pacifist and I am still having the same problems encountered in v4. I had previously tried totally removing 4 with AppCleaner and doing a clean install of 3.2.3, but it told me I already had a newer version installed. And yes, I've cleaned caches, history, repaired permissions and all of the usual suspects. No go. Thoughts?

Those who for some reason do not want to continue using the fastest, safest version of Safari (4.0.3) and want to revert back to an older version, rather than find out how to correct their faulty system, can do so by performing an archive and install:

It is nice of you to assume that just because the latest Safari is not working properly that it is somehow the fault of the user. So how does one find out how to correct their "faulty system"?
An alternative strategy, if you really don't like Safari, is to try one or more of the many other browsers available for the Mac. They are listed here:
    http://www.pure-mac.com/webb.html
I like Safari, I'd love to keep using Safari, but if I can't load pages that I need to access frequently, then... As I said before though, I have no problems with Safari 4 on my Intel Leopard running iMac.
But there may be another way, BUT this is for TIGER users only:
Download Safari 3.2.3 from Apple's Download page. http://support.apple.com/downloads/Safari3_2_3_forTiger
    Quit Safari.
    Delete Safari
Delete the receipts file at /Library/Receipts/Safari4.0Tiger.pkg
    Empty Trash
Mount the Safari 3.2.3 dmg file and install it.
    Restart your Mac
    Repair permissions
All should be good with Safari 3.2.3.
I am unable to verify whether this works. Try it and post back with results!
All I can contribute is that it did not work for me. Same issues that have plagued me ever since installing Safari 4 on my PPC G5 running Tiger. Before I upgraded to 4 and was running 3.2.3, there was no issue with page loads. Thanks for the effort though.

  • Downgrading (Slow) Safari 5 to (Fast) 4.0.5

I've tried some ways from Apple Discussions to fix Safari 5, sometimes it seems fixed, but again and again it gets slow,
Can somebody post an easy way for downgrading (Slow) Safari 5 to (Fast) 4.0.5?
    Thank you,

I had the same problem. If you have an external hard drive, your older edition Safari is probably saved on there. Otherwise, Google Safari 4 and see what you get. Safari 5 is horrible.

  • Possible to downgrade to Safari 1.2 on OSX 10.4?

If possible, I need to downgrade or install Safari 1.2 on a Tiger-equipped iBook in order to troubleshoot an Internet Banking problem. The vendor for this software only lists Safari 1.2 as a supported browser, so I need to reproduce the issue on that version.
I downloaded the package but it could not install; the download page states it is only supported through OSX 10.3.8. Is there a way to fool the package?

That sounds like a really bad idea, imo, I can not imagine why or how this is the only way to troubleshoot this issue you have with this Bank, which bank
Is it, that wants/needs you to do this? Do you have a Friend with the appropriate os & Safari version?

That's correct. Not a way I know off and again I would not recommend it.

i Have contacted support of both software but cannot get support. So this is very strange where Apple release beta on production machine for normal users.
how can I downgrade Safari to 7.0.5? I heard that Apple just released the downgrade option in MAS yesterday July 16 but it still not show up in my Thailand MAS.

I have tried reinstall 10.9.4 combo. The installation went fine but Safari 7.1 seed 1 was not replaced by 7.0.5 at all. It is still 7.1 seed 1 after reinstall the combo update. However, yo my surprise, all third parties apps that have problem and hang like Tuba, PDFPen Pro, and desktop view of Viewer for GMail start functioning as it should be.
iin all, I still have Safari 7.1 seed 1 on my system but now problems with third party apps seems to go away.
