Safari downloads 1x1 .gif files

A lot of things (e.g. everything from sourceforge) I try to download suddenly end up being 1x1 pixel .gif files. any idea what to do?
I'm using Safari 2.0.2.

Hi Lucas,
I'm guessing you are running NetBarrier. One of the options in there is preventing you from accessing the files you're after.
I'm not familiar with the tool I'm afraid, so sorry for not being more specific. There used to be a post with details of what switch does correct it but that post no longer works.

  • Download just opens 1x1 gif

    Sometimes when I click on a download link in Safari (e.g. to a .dmg file), all I am able to download is a 1x1 gif. Is this a problem with Safari, the site I am downloading from, or something else? Here is an example of a link that does not download for me:
    h**p://downloads.cepstral.com/cepstral/macosx/CepstralLawrence_macosx3.4.1.dmg
    Instead, it downloads a .dmg.gif file
    Thanks for any info,
    Bill

    Hi Bill,
    Are you running NetBarrier by any chance?

  • Zip files seen as 1x1 gif image

    When I try to download zip files on my G4 laptop, a new window opens with the title <filename>.zip 1x1 pixel.gif. When using "save as" in the Safari menu, a small gif file is saved, not a zip file. This happens when using Safari 2.0.4, Safari 3.0.3, or Firefox. I've used "reset Safari" without results. When trying to download the same zip files using Safari on an iMac on the same home network, it downloads flawlessly. rar and dmg files download without a problem. I could use a hand trying to figure this one out. Thanks.

    Hi,
    I forge the name of the product, but I think this is caused by an internet security product (NetBarrier?) being a little over-zealous in the filtering that it performs. Assuming you have such a product, check it's settings.
    Hope that ends up helping you out

  • Drag File From Safari Download Window to Other Volume - Moves not Copies File - Bug or Feature ?

    Hi,
    Appreciate comment on what I thought was unusual Mac OS behavior.  Running Safari 5.1.5, OS 10.6.8.
    Mac OSs in my experience copy a file when it is dragged and dropped to another volume/drive. (Let's leave classic desktop out of this.)
    It may be the first time I've ever done it in any version of Safari, but just dragged a file directly from the Safari Downloads panel onto another drive's icon - and it appeared to "move" the file from its original download destination to the other drive and not simply copy it onto the other drive.
    Didn't look like a copy and standard Finder delete since I didn't see file in the trash, although it was gone from the finder window for the download folder (Desktop in my prefs), and afterwards Safari Download Window magnifying glass icon "can’t show the file “filename” in the Finder because “filename” has moved since you downloaded it." It's reproducible.
    Assuming it's not unique to my configuration, is this a bug or "feature" ?
    Thanks.

    HI,
    From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences then select the General tab.
    You can deselect: Open "safe" files after downloading.

  • Safari 3 quits as soon as I download a .pdf file

    I've just downloaded the Beta of Safari 3, running on my 12" Powerbook (10.4.10, 1.25Gb RAM, 1.5GHz processor). Now, whenever I try to download a .pdf file from any site, the browser crashes without warning or error message.
    Three questions:
    1. Anyone else having the same problem?
    2. Anyone got an answer to it?
    and, assuming the answer to (2) is 'no',
    3. How do I re-install the latest version of Safari before the Beta 3?
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Right - apologies for posting the wrong forum for a start... Should have looked around and spotted the Beta forum.
    Secondly, problem now solved:
    Moved the "AdobePDFViewer.plugin" from HD>Library>Internet PlugIns to
    HD>Library>Internet PlugIns>Disabled PlugIns

  • When downloading a file, how do I tell Firefox to not do a virus scan of files with specific extensions such a .gif files?

    I'm using AVG Free as my anti-virus program and always use the latest version. I have set scanning options in AVG to skip the scanning of gif and jpg files but that seems to be ignored when I am downloading a very small file of either type. The "Downloads" (Ctrl J) pop-up window shows the progress of the download and scan. At times, the virus scan is so miserably slow for simple gif and jpg files that it is a while until I can once more move my mouse cursor.
    By the way, I'm using version 3.6.17 Firefox and WIN 7 Premium.

    Unfortunately, I continue to have the problem. Just to make sure, following your suggestion, I shut down Firefox then restarted it but had the same result. Similarly, I rebooted after making the changes but again, no difference. Ah well...
    Just thought I'd attach this partial screen print to show that I am in Firefox and that I am downloading a file -- in this case, a daily Doonesbury gif file.
    Thanks for the suggestion though.

  • Safari "Download Linked File As ..." dialog box seems to convert 3 or more consecutive period chars (\056) in the new file name into a Unicode ellipsis char \342\200\246 in the file name.  How prevent this ?

    Safari "Download Linked File As ..." dialog box seems to convert 3 or more consecutive period chars (\056) into a Unicode ellipsis char ( \342\200\246 ) in the file name that I type.  How does one prevent this ?

    I know nothing about “EndNote”, but allow me to give you some general advice. Your first, commented-out, line (“--section to wait for window to pop up”) indicates that you need to change the basic way you are tackling what you want to do. When writing any script, if you know the name and location of a file or a directory (folder) you should not cause (or allow, or need) your script to open an Open or a Save window -- just use the path that you already know.

  • Safari 4.0.3 crashes when downloading a .PDF file

    Whenever we try to download a .PDf file, Safari crashes with this error. "The application Safari quit unexpectedly. The problem may have been caused by the Acrobat Plug-in."
    Any suggestions would be welcome.

    Greetings,
    Are you trying to download a PDF file, or open one in Safari? There's a difference, so you need to be clear as to what you're really doing.
    For the sake of argument, I'll assume you're trying to open a PDF file in Safari. In that case, the problem is the Acrobat Reader and it's plugin. You don't need either one, because Safari is perfectly capable of rendering PDF files all by itself, and faster than Adobe Reader.
    You should use something like AppDelete to remove Adobe Reader and it's plugin entirely, then restart Safari and try opening a PDF file. You should have no problem.

  • Safari opening linked .zip files directly from DVD instead of downloading

    Dear all,
    Safari opening linked .zip files directly from DVD (via Windows explorer) instead of downloading it tru browser click - it's working just fine in FF, Chrome IE. Is this a known issue? or something can be done by modifying browser setting/pref.
    Expecting more advise on this.
    Configurations: Windows XP
    Safari: 5.1.7
    Note: ensured there is no space in the file path, just linked the .zip file using href attribute!
    Also tried with .xls, .doc insted of .zip same issue appearing.
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi
    appzapper & such are pretty flaky at removing things usefully, imo.
    Use the uninstaller for speed download - http://www.yazsoft.com/products/speed-download/faqs/?how-to-un-install-speed-dow nload-properly
    or get a hold of FindAnyFile or easyfind & search for Growl & Speeddownload & yazsoft - but from all I hear, the uninstaller works fine.
    Failing that, Safari's settings plist file isn't in caches
    Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.safari.plist
    is the place
    & if you're still stuck, test & maybe download another browser using a New User Account.

  • When downloading a .csv file in Safari, it adds .xls, making the file filename.cvs.xls

    When downloading a .csv file in Safari, it adds .xls, making the file filename.cvs.xls

    I had found a fix on my old macbook, but just got a new MBP and it's happening again.
    Can't remember or find where the fix is.
    Thanks!

    Safari: Downloaded file's filename may have an additional extension
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24293
    That's from June 11, 2007!
    Working from my defective memory, this happened to me, but stopped if I unchecked 'Open safe files after downloading' in Safari Preferences/General.
    At least I think that's how I stopped it - it hasn't happened since!

  • When trying to download a wmv file it opens in safari instead.

    I have a mac. I had an old version of firefox and upgraded to 3.6.8.
    with my old version of firefox, when I download a wmv file from a site it would ask were to save, no with 3.6 it opens the file in safari.

    Go to ''Edit'' -> ''Preferences''. If that option doesn't appear, it might be under ''Tools'' -> ''Options''. Once that window is open, click on ''Applications'' and scroll down to ''WMV'' or ''WMV Video'' or something along those lines. Click the text in the ''Action'' column once to select it, then again to open the dropdown list. Change it to ''Save File''.
    That should do it!

    I came across a website with downloadable InDesign templates. However; Safari opens a page full of question marks and other marks instead of opening the file in InDesign. Is there a plug-in or extension required in order to download an InDesign file from the Safari browser?

    You can right click the download link then select "Download Linked File As..." from the context menu.

  • How to  download any type files in safari

    I HAVE iphone 4s .the8.1.1 version is installedMy question is chosen a safari to throw any safflower about if the performer will be downloaded

    Hi,
    use this for file download.
    For file down load u have to use a UI element as "File download".
    u just create context attribute as setdownload_res and file data.
    setdownload_res as of type "com.sap.ide.webdynpro.uielementdefinitions.Resource" then bound it to the ui element "resource".
    file data as of type "com.sap.tc.webdynpro.progmodel.api.IWDInputStream"
    and set calcuclated as true and read only as true.
    then in doinit method u just write this code
    IWDAttributePointer attr = wdContext.currentContextElement().getAttributePointer("fileData");
    IWDResource res = WDResourceFactory.createResource(attr,null,WDWebResourceType.UNKNOWN);
    wdContext.currentContextElement().setDownload_res(res);
    wdComponentAPI.getMessageManager().reportSuccess(""+c);
    after this in the getter method u write this code
    IWDInputStream stream = null;
    try
    stream = WDResourceFactory.createInputStream(new FileInputStream(new File("<pathof the file to be download>")));
    catch(Exception e)
    e.printStackTrace();
    return stream;
