Safari Downloads - How do i not save by default?

When I am using Safari as an application (webmail or other) and I select a file or file i want to view, it downloads the file into the doanloads directory before opening. After I view the file, and close it, a copy of that is permanmetly contained in the download folder until manually deleted. How to change this behaviour so it removes the file automatically after closing? I would rather and opt-out scenario where I have to save the file if I want to keep a copy. cuurent process just fills my downloads directory with unnecessary files I do not want to keep. I only want to view and maybe save a few. I have to go and clean up this directory manually on a regular basis so my drive does not fill.

Files downloaded to the Downloads folder must be deleted manually.

  • Hello, I have a series of language cd's that I am trying to put onto my iTunes but when I download them, they will not save separately instead they are saving as the first disk so i am ending up with 3 disks on 1. Please help

Hello, I am trying to copy a series of language cd's onto iTunes but each cd will not save separately, instead it is saving all as one disk. So I am ending up with 3 disks on 1 with 3 different track1, 2 etc. Please help as I am sure there is an easy solution to this that I have no clue about. Thanks

After you insert the CD but before you import it into iTunes, select all tracks and set the disc number to 1, 2, 3 ... as appropriate.

  • How do I NOT save a file every time I open a PDF file, open an attachment, etc.? I know how to set the option to change the save location, but in some cases I just want to VIEW not SAVE a file that I read while browsing

I don't want Firefox to save a copy on my hard disk of every attachment, PDF, etc. that I open while browsing. How do I make this happen?

Firefox needs to download and save a file before passing it to a plugin.
You can set the Boolean pref <b>browser.helperApps.deleteTempFileOnExit</b> to <i>true</i> on the <b>about:config</b> page to remove such files.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
*Use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a preference more easily.
*Preferences that have been modified show as bold (user set).
*Preferences can be reset to the default via the right-click context menu if they are user set
*Preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean)

  • When downloading PDFs, they do not save to the download folder I assigned in Firefox - what can I do to fix this?

    I am running Windows 8.
Every time I save a PDF it opens in UserName - AppData - Local - Temp
I have tried changing the download location in Firefox.
I've also Googled this problem and IE has the same issue - the fix for IE is declaring the site as trusted, but Firefox does not have a trusted site option.

    I am aware of that.
    My actual actions taken are:
    I open the PDF
    I hit CNTRL + SHIFT + S
The Safe Box with the temp folder selected pops up.
I access the file I wish to save in from the directory tree (I go to my username - documents - the folder - the sub-folder - the next sub-folder and then save).
Once a month I need to save 30-40 PDFs in the same folder in a short amount of time - in Windows XP the last folder saved in would become the default, which would be great. And again I found the work-around for IE, but I really like Firefox, and want to use it for this, if possible.

  • TS3230 safari 6.0.3 does not save preferences in OSX 10.8.3

Every time shut down so do my Safari prefernces. They revert back to default. Have reset Safari to no avail. How can I solve this time consuming bug?

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Safari 7.0.6 will not save my preferences (default webpage, turn off extensions)

    Hello,
I have been trying for months to get Safari to make my school website my default homepage instead of the apple start page as well as get Safari to remember the size I like my browser window. Nothing works. I can change it in preferences but as soon as I quit Safari it goes back to how it was. I have tried what others suggested and searched library for the /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist and I also tried turning extensions off and it just turns itself back on (no extensions show up anyway). Am I missing something? I'm running OS X 10.9.4

Back up all data before proceeding.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Zipfile download - how to control the save as filename?

We've sucessfully created a portlet which allows us to serve up a zipfile. However when we run it, the default filename is ...ZIP_DOWNLOAD_DYN_TEST.show - which is the name of the portlet. How do you control that filename? Searching the MIME information didn't yeild any help. If you change the name to something reasonable, the download does work.

  • Downloaded Photos but did not save, all lost?

I'm new to iPhoto and to my Nikon CoolPix995 Camera.  I transfered 63 pictures to iPhoto and, thinking they  were on my computer,  erased them from my camera.  I've searched all my gif, tiff, pic, picture, etc., files in my Finder without any luck.
Is there a chance they are in a cache somewhere?

Thanks so much LaaryHN.  There's much to be learned on this "Nikon CoolPix995" or any modern "shoot and download" camera, especially when you're (I'm) used to shooting from my cell phone and sending it to my email.    Which can become quite expensive if you're a pix bug.  Or so my son tells me, -- he pays the phone bills, i guess that's why he gave me the camera.

  • How to config not to use Default run target

    Hi All,
How can I config Jdeveloper9.0.3 not to use runner's "default run target" from "project settings", instead, to use welcome file list in web.xml?
    thanks a lot!

This is currently how it is implemented in JDev903. The JDev webapp runner uses the project default run target instead of using the directory and relying on the welcome files in the web.xml.
Obviously a workaround is to set the default run target to observe the welcome file in the web.xml.
We haven't really seen people asking for this to be implemented in our webapprunner but we'll discuss it..

How do I access my music in iTunes without downloading? I want to hear the music not save it on multiple devices...

Thanks, I tried that. It shows me only the songs i purchased and just gives me a snippet of the song. After much more reading and a phone call, it looks like Match will stream all the songs in my iTunes account without having to download them, but of course for a fee :( Thanks though.
