Safari Downloads with Road Runner

Recently moved from Earthlink to Road Runner, when I download files/attachments they come through with an additional tag, (html) Example pdf.html This is a real pain to then go and remove the unnessary tag, and reset the file. IS there away to stop this? Road Runner Tech says this is a known problem with Safari and says to redirect mail with files to another mail program.

No Specifc Steps,
Just downloading attached files from road runner e-mail and when the download is complete the file has the .html tag attached to it. For example when the downlaod is finished it will say file.pdf.html
Of course the mac looks at the .html file and shows only the html code when it is opened.
To fix I need to select the file name, remove the.html tag, tell the computer to accept the new tag, then it openes the file correctly.

  • Static IP works, DHCP doesn't with road runner

The boss has a road runner cable modem in his office. He is directed connected from port 2. I ran a wire from port 1 to the downstairs and connected it to a WRT54G. I did this so people downstairs could get wireless access. No one is wire connected to the router.
If I set up the router as DHCP, everyone can see the WRT54G but cannot get internet connectivity. Since we do have a static IP, I set that up in the WRT54G and everyone can connect. That is until the boss uses his machine.
I spoke with Road Runner and they said the cable modem is set up for dynamic IP but we do have a static IP. The best I can decipher is that once the boss signs on the cable modem goes back to dynamic.
But my question is why doesn't the DHCP work? If I unplug the wire from the WRT54G and plug straight into my laptop, it works fines.
Of course Road Runner is blaming the Linksys as the problem.
    Thanks
    Keith

Will you please let me know when you connect 2 computer from the 2 Ports on the Modem are you able to go online from both the Computer at a time.....if yes then you have to configure the Router....if No then You have to connect the Modem to the Internet Port of the Router and configure it accordingly...while configuring make sure you have your computer connected to any one of the 4 ports on the Router.
    follow the Steps as Follows:-
Open the set up page of the router by launching an Internet Explorer Browser and type the address bar, 192.168.1.1 and press enter. When it prompts for the username and password, leave the username field empty and provide password as admin and click on ok.
On the main setup page the ""Internet Connection Type"" should be
on ""Obtain IP Automatically - DHCP “. Click on the Save Settings
    button.
Now click on the sub tab ""MAC address clone"".
    - Click on enable
Click Clone your PC's Mac & click save settings
Check Internet  IP on Status page of router ....
If getting Valid IP .... try going online
If not ... power cycle for 4-5 minutes & then again check the Internet IP address by login into the Setup page of the Router....checked the Internet IP Address....

  • IMAC seems not compatible with Road Runner. Can send, not reply or send

Started having problems with RR on IMAC/Leopard. RR says it is a MAC problem. Can receive but not reply or send, so I have to go to webmail, wasting time. Is it better to use Mac Mail? Would that solve the problem?

This is a known issue with road runner e-mail and the mac mail app. Seeing as the mac mail app works just fine with any other e-mail provider, logically the issue is with road runner's e-mail service.
In my experience, Road Runner is severely lacking in Mac support. When I used to use them (I recently switched to FiOS), any time I would call support due to an outage, I was always told that "our internet doesn't work with macs" or "the problem is that you have a mac. You need to call Apple for support."
At any rate, if you want to use mac mail, I would suggest getting a new e-mail provider, such as Gmail.

  • Here we go again - Verizon Centro Versamail not working with Road Runner

I posted back in early Demember about a problem I encountered receiving my Road Runner email on my Verizon Centro in this thread.  The crazy thing just decided to start working on it's own after a month of failing to receive emails.  Well, this afternoon it decided to choke again and has been choking all day.  I tried my wife's Centro gotten at the same time as mine and it's doing the exact same thing.  Each auto sync or attempt to manually retrieve email results in the following error:

Of course this is happening right before I'm heading out of town to coach my kid's hockey team in a tournament - a time I really rely upon my mobile email.  I am ready to pull out my gun, blast a few holes in the thing and go get myself a Motorolla Q or a Blackberry.  Can anybody help with this goofiness!?!

  • No Ethernet Connection with Road Runner

    Hi Everybody,
I have a bizarre problem. I just moved into a new apartment that is connected via Time Warner's Road Runner. Currently, we only have an ethernet connection via the Time Warner Router.
My MacBook (Model2,1 with 2GHz Intel and 10.5.5) connects easily with the ethernet. Open Safari and go! no problem at all.
However, the MacBook of my wife (Model3,1 with 2GHz Intel and 10.5.5) does NOT connect via the ethernet cable. I tried everything from new starts to entering IPs that my other MacBook got. There is no connection to the internet.
Any ideas why this could happen?
    All the Best, Crobus

Are you using a router? If so what make and model? What cable modem do you have? Have you done the following:
Turn off everything including cable modem, router (if any), and the computers. Wait at least one minute. Then turn on the cable modem. Wait until the status lights show connection to the ISP. Then turn on the router. Wait until its status light shows connection with the cable modem. Last turn on the computers. Be sure you have Network preferences properly configured.
If the other computer still fails to get a connection then try deleting the following files from the /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ folder:
    com.apple.airport.preferences.plist (if it exists)
    com.apple.network.identification.plist
    preferences.plist
Then restart the computer. You will have to re-configure the Network preferences.

  • DHCP Renew Issue with Road Runner

I have had Road Runner for 6 weeks, the first four weeks everything was running smoothly. However, for the last two weeks the connection has been sporadic and I am constantly losing my connection.
My computer is connected directly to the modem with an ethernet cable; there is no router, there are no other computers. I'm simply trying to stay online with my little computer.
My network settings are for built-in ethernet, using DHCP, with the addresses provided by my ISP (Road Runner) and I've added two DNS server addresses for Road Runner (because several other discussions, posts, etc. recommended using those to help stay connected). I've tried turning my IPv6 off, I've tried manually configuring my DHCP connection, I've scoured the internet for help. All to no avail. Most topics deal with networking with PC's or airports and I have neither attached to this computer. I've created new locations to try and "erase" any default settings and I've kicked the modem a few times (accidentally I assure you ).
From what I can tell, (keep in mind I sell trees and know nothing about this) the DHCP lease does not renew when it's supposed to. I am disconnected every half hour or so, or I have to press "renew" to be able to stay online (highly annoying).
When I first subscribed to Road Runner the connection was fine and I was able to stay online indefinitely. Two weeks ago that changed, even though I did nothing (intentionally) to change network settings. This means I downloaded nothing that would affect my network configuration, I didn't poke around in network configurations, I did not change any settings. I've spoken with their online "tech" support four times. I've spoken to three people on the phone and I've had a tech come out to replace my modem and ethernet cable. When the problem persisted I contacted them again and was told the problem was with Apple <gasp>.
I believe I need help in finding a way to have my mac recognize changes in DHCP and to renew the lease automatically, for all I know it could be that the moon isn't aligned with Saturn <shrug>...preferably in vernacular I can understand. Thank you in advance for any help!
    Lori

    Hi Lori,
You're not really in the right forum for your problem (this area is for Apple-server) but I'll give it a go...
First, short explanation on DHCP. This process is pretty straightforward for the client's function so I'm suspicious of the "blame the mac" conclusion from Road Runner (although does not exclude possibility). When the mac starts up, it issues a 'Discovery' broadcast, looking for a DHCP server. The server responds with an 'Offer' of an IP address. The client then responds with a 'Request' to the server for the same IP address and the server then sends an 'Acknowledgement' that it may use this address, along with other information including the 'Lease Time' - how long the client may continue to use that info.
The lease time is important. After 50% of this time has gone, the client will attempt to renew it from the same server by issuing another Request and awaiting another Acknowledgement. Should there be no Acknowledgement, the client will continue to issue Requests up until the expiry of the original lease time at which point it will drop all the info which it received from the server and then issue another Offer broadcast, looking for a new server (which may or may not be available).
So, first thing, lets see what lease time you are getting from Road Runner and see if this corresponds with the 30 minutes you seem to get from a session...
Ensure you have a cable connection to your router, restart computer. In Applications-> Utilities, start up Terminal. Enter the following line, ending with normal 'return' key (new line)...
    ipconfig getpacket en0
That's a zero at the end.
Look for the line similar to this, "lease_time (uint32): 0x1bd8", and post back the string of chars you get at the end of your line (corresponding to the "0x1bd8" part). Quit the Terminal utility.
Can you also confirm what computer model you use, and the system version?

  • SPA941 issues when used with Road Runner Extreme (Time Warner) 30mb/s down, 5 mb/s up.

I use a SPA941 phone in my home office.
Until recently, my Internet bandwidth was through Time Warner Road Runner Turbo.  It generally worked well, but when I happened to be sending a large email or uploading a large file while on the phone, my voice would break up due to the upload bandwidth limitation.
Because of this, I upgraded to Road Runner Extreme (30mb/s download, 5mb/s upload). Now, although speedtest.net tests show that I have good bandwidth and latency, the mute button flashes red at various times througout the day, and at seemingly random times when I'm on the phone, the other party's voice will start to break up and/or cease completely, as though I have a download bandwidth problem... but a quick speedtest.net check shows that not to be the case.
I've spent hours (literally) on the phone with Time Warner 3rd level tech support, and they say everything is fine... and the issue must be with the phone.
    I'm using a Ubee DOCSIS 3.0 WLCM combination modem/router
Connected to the SPA941 via cat5 10/100 Ethernet.
    Has anyone encountered this problem?
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
Are there any settings on the phone that can be adjusted to help in this situation?
    Thanks,
    David

    Hi David,
After reviewing your post I see one important piece of information
"the mute button flashes red at various times througout the day"
Mute button flashing means the ethernet link went down.  That would be between the phone and the device the ethernet cable is connected to.  The SPA941 is 10mb half duplex device (no pc connection so it didn't need higher capacity).
It could be an auto negotiation issue with the network device.  Try forcing the link to 10mb half duplex or daisy chain a 3rd party switch/hub and see if the problem goes away.
One more possibility is IP address DHCP lease renews itself causing the link to go down and up.  You can also try setting static IP address with dns & gateway, etc..  into the SPA941.

  • Trouble with sending emails with Road Runner

I have had little luck with sending email from my iPad with Wifi through my Road Runner Account (Central Florida). Apple Support got it to work with the AT&T 3G set as a secondary Outbound server, but I am still looking for a way to send emails with RR with WiFi. The problem may be that there is no way to turn off the authenication feature in the iPad mail setup, and RR here does not require or permit authentication for its outbound mail servers. Has anyone had this problem and found a solution? Why is there not a selection available in the setup for "no authentication" since I can see that there are accounts which do not support it?

If you had the AT&T network set up and on, and the RR still did not work, there must be another problem with sending emails through RR than I have guessed. I have thought the problem was the incompatible Authentication setting, but if you had the AT&T on as an alternative, that should have resolved the Authentication issue. In any event, I have discussed with Bright House (RR), and they do not seem to acknowledge any compatibility issues with the iPad. Hopefully, it can be resolved.

  • Problems with Road Runner dialup software on new MacBook

My parents, who will be away from home need temporary dialup Internet access for several weeks on a new Macbook, are finding themselves unable to use the dialup software from their usual provider, Time Warner/Road Runner to dial into their account---apparently the software itself loads, but then it won't actually authenticate and dial. Road Runner says it's a Mac problem; Apple says it's a Road Runner problem. Has anyone experienced a similar problem and/or found a way to resolve it? Also, any suggestions of temporary-use low-cost dialup services that WILL work for the latest Macbook (with Intel software) would be helpful. Thank you.

No, the computer and external modem are connected correctly (as proven by the fact that Internet access seems to work OK on the MacBook through a temporary provider that we've found), but ultimately my parents would still like to use their regular Internet provider and are puzzled as to why the dialup for that works on their other OSX desktops but not on the new laptop. Thanks for the thought, though.

  • Anybody with Road Runner problems

    Hey all,
This MBPro connectivity thing is really numbing and getting old and I see a lot of people with problems and just wondering if anyone has traced it to Road Runner issues.
    Have had RR for years.
I have never had internet connection problems until this last month and the new things in the equation are a Belkin N router and the MBPro purchased 11/08. I can't upload internet site either.
just trying to narrow it down...
    Thanks,
    Al
    North Carolina

Well RR never called back prob because I said I wanted a new modem...
positives: my computer has not gone off line since they visited and did some tests, replaced splitter and then I had to press reset on everything: modem, router etc..,
But I still can't upload to my site - upon getting to a QT file it tries for awhile then I get my FTP timeout.
Go Daddy had me do a traceroute and send it to them (you can do this without going into terminal on the mac) and they said it was normal and go talk to RR.
Next step is to install the router software (never did- just plugged it all in) and change some of the router settings and then maybe investigate the MBPro Airport card.
I wonder if turning off Apple Talk in network prefs makes a diff.
    Never give up,
    Al

  • It's doing it again - Verizon Centro Versamail not working with Road Runner

This seems to be a bout a once a month thing.  My centro fails every time it tries to retrive email from my Road Runner account, I post here and it mysteriously starts working again.  Well, I am getting the same error so let's post and see if the techs pick up on it and fix the issue.

  • Time Warner Cable Road Runner With Turbo + Linksys WRT160N Router

    Guys & Ladies,
I'm having a problem either with road runner turbo cable internet or my wrt160n router, I had two different technicians from time warner to check out the problem why my internet connection is very slow they say everything is fine on they're end of the signal.. They figure it's the router causeing the problem due to the fact it drops the signal speed 15% the technician claim when he was looking at the problem.  Here's how I got the network setup: Network mode is selected on mixed channel width is selected on 20mhz and channel is 10...wireless security security mode is WPA2 Personal encryption is AES. The advance wireless settings are these selections...frame burst disabled basic rate is disable...The technician did say the ethernet cable might be going bad? If so what should I buy? how many feet? like 12ft to 18ft?
Anything I can do to make it faster? I tried speaking with Linksys tech support they wouldn't talk to me unless I paid them $15 dollars?
Message Edited by RaveAffection on 09-24-2009 01:44 PM

As for right now earlier it gave me slow speeds on the wireless side while the wired connection worked awesome.  The wireless speeds are around 8.92 mbps download 0.95 upload at speedtest.net the level 2 linksys technician claims my wireless speeds should be higher than that? Since it's Road Runner Turbo with speedbooster.
Here's what the level 2 linksys technician told me to do when he had me on the phone earlier, he told me to change the security mode to WPA Personal instead of having WPA Personal 2 selected and change security mode password, network mode to wireless g and set the channel to 10.. Then he asked hows the signal? I said from 10 feet away from the router my intel pro wireless connection shows full strength and excellent signal and right now still shows full stregth and excellent signal.  He said watch over it tonight if anymore problems call back or talk to linksys chat support
Should I have the transmission rate set on 54G or Auto under the advanced router settings and what about basic rate?
I don't know what else to do to fix the problems.
