Safari eating memory...yes even good old Safari!

I have noticed this only recently, but activies monitor show a large amount of memory consumed by safari and safari web content and the name of websites I'm browsing. (http://discussions.apple.com and mail.google.com  etc. ) Even when only 2-3 tabs are opened. And the first time I noticed that my memory pressure has turned orange.
Can I prevent this.
I know I should upgrade RAM but I haven't suffered from this issue before and 4GB ram is quite enough for me

I've done lots of etrechecking my self , removed useless plugins, extensions, launch agents , daemons and what not! I even had an adware...!
Anyways,

  • Eating memory

    Hi,
as yoi can read I have a MacBook and OS X 10.5.7. This software it's going mad because, if I ope Activity monitor or a finder window ROM memory is "eaten":
    1) I have 1,7 GB of free space b ut after 6 hours of work (open Safari, iTunes, Mail, Preview) it goes to 200 MB and continue to go down till to "no enough space on startup disk
    2) RAM memory is "eaten" when I open Safari, more or less 100÷230 MB RAM, the problem is that Dashboard client too eats memory. But if I close Safri I gain that memory, if I close dashboard client (from activity monitor) it opens again and goes again to 100 MB of RAM. Another problem is, sometimes, from WindowsServer, that can't be closed so I have to reboot my Mac in order to have sufficient memory to work.
I made two questions and I found you very professional, pleas would you mind help me?
    Thank you
    Antonio

I have two kind of memory: RAM and ROM.
I have, now 2,3 GB of free space (ROM) but during the normal functioning of MAC it goes to 300 MB, magically.
You're not using the common terms here. Perhaps it's the language/translation.
I think that what you're calling ROM is disk space. Go to Activity Monitor and click the +Disk Usage+ tab towards the bottom. That will show you Disk Space, both "Space utilized" and "Space free" (in the English version), and measured in GB. Please report what both numbers show. Is the "Space free" what you're referring to when you say you have 2.3 GB of ROM?
If so, that's not enough. As per my previous post, you must get more space on your internal HD, and you need to do it quickly. Do not worry about anything else just yet.
If not, please specify where you see this figure.
I have 1GB of RAM, but windowsserver and dashboard client get it down to a very low level and Safari (from Activity monitor I monitor it) after 5÷7 minutes opened uses 250 MB of RAM. I can close Safari in order to gain that memory but if I close windowsserver the initial desktop is shown instead dashboard client, even if I close it, it reopens.
Now click the +System Memory+ tab. It shows several categories of memory (RAM). At the right is a circular display, underneath that is the total RAM you have. Tell us what that shows.
For the moment, we're concerned with the total of Free and Inactive in the left-hand column. It will change a bit every few seconds; but tell us roughly what the total of Free and Inactive is when you first start up, and how it changes when you start Safari, or other things.

  • Good Old Reliable BT-Poles

A lot has to to be said for the good old BT-Poles. The one outside my house has stood there for longer than I care to remember.
Through gales, severe snow storms, thunder-storms, torrential rain, heat-waves and the frequent visit from the local dogs
I wish the same could be said about my back yard brick wall.
Today both were hit by (not too hard) by a car which was trying to do a 3-point-turn.
My wall collapsed - albeit in one piece.
And the BT-Pole? It stood there, not even a tremor from it.
They built them good in them days.
. . . it must be remembered that the sea is a great breeder of friendship. Two men who have known each other for twenty years find that twenty days at sea bring them nearer than ever they were before, or else estrange them.

one of my local ones has survived a hit from a truck it bend the traffic light pole but only a small dent in the pole

  • 0.5 MB program has 832 MB memory usage even before it is run

I just uninstalled and re-installed LabVIEW 2011. I was hoping this would do something to lower the memory footprint. Alas, it did not make any difference. This is what I see:
    - When I launch LabVIEW, it uses 94 MB even before I have opened a single VI, i.e. only the front end uses this much memory.
    - When I open the VI (the size of the .vi file is 549 KB), memory usage goes up to 836.4 MB. This is before I have even run the program.
    - Finally, when I run the program, memory usage jumps to 1.17 GB.
I find this memory usage grotesquely high. Can anyone please shed some light on what can be done? I have uploaded the VI. It's a rather simple VI.
    Thanks,
    Neil

    1) If I understand correctly, what you are saying is that when I open the VI, the data structures associated with the intensity charts and waveform graphs are initialized to default values (e.g. 0), so there is memory usage even before the program is run and anything displayed, right?
Yes, a huge array still takes a lot of memory, even though it compresses well for storage inside the VI. Once the VI is ready to run, these arrays need to be allocated in memory.
    nbf wrote:
    2) Is there an alternative to using the value property node that doesn't duplicate the memory content? (e.g. something like pointer or reference in C++?)
One possiblity are data value references. You can open a DVR and fill it inside the subVI, then extract slices later as needed. If done properly, you can also keep the 2D data in a shift register (yes, please learn about them!).
    nbf wrote:
    4) Regarding the clearing of the indicators, could you please tell me how to do that, without removing the color ramp settings?
The color ramps can be set programmatically using property nodes based on array min&max and you can assign colors for the ramp values at will.
    nbf wrote:
    5) You are correct that I am displaying 4000x2000 array data in an intensity graph with 400x200 pixels. But then I change the min/max of the charts/graphs to zoom into the region of interest; I can identify the region of interest only after displaying the full 4000x2000 array of data. I don't know if there is a way around this.
Do you really need to show the 2D data in three different transforms? Maybe one intensity graph is sufficient. You can apply the other transforms on the extracted slices with <<1% of the computing effort. What is the range and resolution of your data? Do you really need DBL or is a smaller representation sufficient (SGL, I16, etc). From looking at the subVI, the raw data is U16. The subVI also involves a coercion to DBL, requireing another data copy in memory. When running, make absolutely sure that the subVI front panel is closed, else additional memory is used for the huge array indicator there. For better performance, you might want to flatten the subVI to the main diagram or at least inline it.
    nbf wrote:
    6) Yes, I use the continuous run mode instead of a toplevel while loop. Is there a disadvantage to doing that?
As Samuel Goldwyn ("A hospital is no place to be sick") might have said: "Run continuously is no way to run a VI"
Run continuously is a debugging tool and has no place in typical use. What it basically does is restart the VI automatically whenever it completes, and as fast as the CPU allows. It is mostly useful to quickly test subVIs that don't have a toplevel loop and play with inputs to verify results. Any toplevel VI needs a while loop surrounding the core code. Period!
So, my suggested plan of action would be:
Use a while loop around your toplevel code
Decide on the minimal representation needed to faithfully show the data.
Keep a single copy of the 2D array in a DVR
You optionally might want to undersample the data for display according to the pixel resolution and use other means of zooming and panning. For zooming, you could extract a differently sampled small array subset and adjust x0 and dx of the axes accordingly.
Use a single 2D graph (if you need to see the various transforms, add a ring selector and transform the 2D array in place. Never show more than one intensity graph.
    See how far you get.

  • What useful features am I loosing keeping the good old IOS 6.13 on iPad 2?

Guys, I'm quite confused to keep the good old 6.13 IOS for my iPad 2 or upgrade to 8.1?
    What I know;
    IOS 6.13;
-looks better, faster, maybe gives longer battery life
    IOS 8.1;
-new features, but what? I heard airdrop not even working on iPad 2.
My second device is iPhone 6 with IOS 8.1. Are they doing something better together if both of them are on 8.1?

    Thanks for the input.

  • Reports 10g vs the good old days

Having been running reports from forms since the good/old client-server days, reports 10g is both a blessing and a curse. While it's certainly nice not to have to install software on each and every client box, since reports are now kept in cache on the middle tier app server until the cache hits its max size limitation, other users can issue a ?getjobid=nnn and just fish around for reports that others have run. In the good old days, a user would run a report locally on their desktop, that could be printed, and no one else could look at it. Does anyone out there know how or if a report run on the app server can be run just for the user who has access to it, and not be available to anyone who is "fishing" with getjobid? I'd really like to specify, if I could that the report be cached for just a few minutes. Essentially most of our users generate reports only needed by them and they are very dynamic in nature, so storing them isn't really necessary. Any ideas out there?
    Thanks in advance.

Use the EXPIRATION parameter to specify how long a report is kept in the cache. See the online help.

  • OAMessageFileUploadBean eating memory

I've implemented an upload page using OAMessageFileUploadBean going to a BLOB column in a table. It all works fine except for one thing - when I upload very big files (100s of MB) the memory of the JVM goes up accordingly and eventually runs out.
I'm confused because against the OAMessageFileUploadBean I've set data type = BLOB, set the view instance, and set the view attribute to the name of the BLOB column. The developer guide says that if these are set "the file content would not be cached in the data object", so I don't suppose it's that which is eating memory.
I imagined that when the upload servlet is populating the new VO instance for my table, it would pass the data through the BlobDomain attribute directly into the BLOB column of the table using io streams, without manifesting it in JVM memory. Maybe this is incorrect or maybe the upload servlet itself is reading all uploaded data into memory?
Any help or clarifications gratefully received!
    Thanks

  • ES Repository vs. our good old Integration repository?

As mentioned in my blog, I am posting a set of questions on ESR in this forum as an interesting way of sharing relevant information with the community. In the true spirit of forums, the one who answers the question is rewarded!
What are the differences between the ES Repository and our good old Integration Repository?

    Hi,
ok let me give it a try - I can list down some of the new features of ESR over the old IR :
    1) ESR has the ARIS for SAP Netweaver integrated where process component models can be developed
    2) We have Business Objects in ESR (which were not present in IR). These BO has CRUD operations called the core services combining which the compound services are modeled
    3) There is no more Message Interfaces but Service Interfaces only
    4) Unlike the Enterprise Services developed using the IR (NW 7.0) now Enterprise Service interfaces developed in ESR can have multiple operations.
    5) ESR has a UDDI registry provided by SAP where the Enterprise Services developed in ESR can be directly published.
    Thanks,

  • Should I upgrade to Snow Leopard/ Lion using a MacBook Pro with 2.26 GHz Inetl Core 2 Duo Processor and 2GB Memory? Can my old macbook take it?

Should I upgrade to Snow Leopard/ Lion using a MacBook Pro with 2.26 GHz Inetl Core 2 Duo Processor and 2GB Memory? Can my old macbook take it?
    thanks

Yes. You should be fine with Snow Leopard, but Lion requires a minimum of 2 GBs of RAM. If you upgrade to Lion I would first upgrade your RAM to at least 4 GBs if your model supports it. Also, see:
How to Install OS X Updates Successfully
    A. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions:
Boot from your current OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. Then select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    B. Make a Bootable Backup Using Restore Option of Disk Utility:
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
    C. Important: Please read before installing:
If you have a FireWire hard drive connected, disconnect it before installing the update unless you will boot from this drive and install the update on it. Reconnect it and turn it back on after installation is complete and you've restarted.
You may experience unexpected results if you have installed third-party system software modifications, or if you have modified the operating system through other means. (This does not apply to normal application software installation.)
The installation process should not be interrupted. If a power outage or other interruption occurs during installation, use the standalone installer (see below) from Apple Downloads to update.  While the installation is in progress do not use the computer.
    D. To upgrade:
Purchase the Snow Leopard Retail DVD.
Boot From The OS X Installer Disc:
Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
    Restart the computer.
Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo appears.
Wait for installer to finish loading.
    E. If updating:
    Download and install update(s)
    Use Software Update, or
    Download standalone updater(s).

    Thanks,

it is eating memory shows like 95 %.how i troubleshoot this issue.
That's not an "issue", it is the quite normal behaviour of SQL Server to allocate as much memory as it needs and as it can get. You can limit the memory usage of SQL Server, see
Server Memory Server Configuration Options and
Effects of min and max server memory
