Safari email link problem...

Hi. Hoping to find some help as I can't seem to enter the right query into Google.
Up until the other day I could click an email link in Safari and it would automatically open Mail so I could type my message. Now it doesn't work like that. It wants me to copy and paste the email address into Mail.
I've been through the Preferences in both Safari and Mail. Everything seems to be ok. Just can't seem to find the solution.
It's not that big a pain unless I'm cruising Craigslist or something like that.

From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

Yeah it does that to me too - but I never use the "insert
-> email link" method. Just type out what you want displayed,
highlight the text, and in the "link" field enter
"mailto:[email protected]" (minus the quotes of course).
Perhaps someone else knows how to "clear" the text in
question, but I have the feeling it's a feature ;-)

Hi. New to CC and just learning. Following tutorial on sharing and collaborating, but as I practice sending a link to my partner or myself, I open it in my email, click on the link and then always get the same message - "sorry, this link is no longer active" Help?

HTML email - link problem

I created an HTML email in dreamweaver. It looks great on my Mac and in Mac Mail. I sent it out and some people on PCs have a blue box around the links. Much like the ones in DreamWeaver when you are working on file. Even to the point where the slices are out of place because blue stroke takes up space.
Do you know how to fix this? Thank you so much!!!

Contribute 3 email link problem

The link to my email address is not working on my website it
says "default mail client not properly installed".

This probably had nothing to do with Contribute, but more
with your computer config. What email-client do you use and that is
the default client? Are the account-settings OK?
Check if the mailto:[email protected] is OK yourself by
looking at the source code of the page or the link properties in
Contribute.

Email links won't open in Safari - keeps resetting to Mail

My email links in Safari were opening in Chrome. I opened Mail, went to Mail > Preferences > General and changed 'Default email reader' to Safari. Then my email links opened in Mail! Went back to Mail > Preferences and it was reset back to Mail. Safari will not stick. I changed it to Firefox, that stuck. I set it back to Google Chrome, that stuck. But when I set it to Safari, it sticks only as long until I click on an email link in any browser, then it resets back to Mail.

Do you have Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat Pro installed? If so, that is the problem.
You need to quit Safari, start the applicable program(s) you have, go to Preferences > Internet and uncheck the box where it says "Display PDF in browser using:". Then go to Users/username/Library/Internet Plug-Ins and remove the Adobe PDF plugin. Restart Safari and try view a PDF in the browser.

Safari 'Email/Email Link to this page' launches Mail Again

If I select Share > Email/Email Link to this page' in Safari, and Mail is already running, rather than just creating a new message, it launches a second instance of Mail (same executable though) and then creates a new message.
I have already rebuilt Launchservices with Cocktail, to no avail.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether your problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Why will Safari not launch Eudora when I click on an email link?

It used to work just fine. However, for about a month now, when I click on "send an email" at my Real Estate Board site, Safari is replaced by a white screen, then reverts back to the "send an email" page. Eudora doesn't launch. Mail doesn't launch. I have Internet Explorer for Mac installed as well, and it won't connect via my e-mail programs either.
I also run Virtual PC, and under it, Internet Explorer. The Windoze version still works.
What gives?

Let me restate my problem.
If I run Safari, click on the email link which should launch Eudora and open a "New Message" window, the screen goes white for a second and reverts back to the link screen but nothing happens. If I launch Eudora first, then in Safari click on the link, still nothing happens.
If I run Explorer for Mac v 5.2.3 it will neither launch Eudora nor open a New Message window if Eudora is already launched.
If I run FireFox, and I click on the link, Eudora will launch and a New Message window opens as it used to do in Safari.
I could really use some help here. Any ideas? Why should I have to use 3rd party browsers?

With no Firefox window open, I can't launch a new one. Or click on an email link and launch a window. This started when I upgraded to 5. Now I downgraded to 4 again and problem persists

I upgraded to Firefox 5, then noticed when a window was open I couldn't launch another one. Or launch into Firefox off an email link. Or open a new window if there was none open.
So I downgraded back to 4. Problem persists.

Uninstall the ones you know about, yes.
As regards the others, it's difficult to say. All you can do is to disable them all via Safe Mode (checkmark "Disable all add-ons", then "Make changes and restart") and then re-enable them one by one checking each time until the problem recurs. Laborious I know, but the only sound way of doing it I'm afraid.

Email links in Safari don't work

When I click on an email link in a website (using Safari 6.1.5), my computer links to TopSites instead of my Mail Account. How do I get the links to go to Mail?

Then quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If no malware is found, troubleshoot Safari extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

Email links in Safari

When I click on an email link in Safari, it opens Apple Mail for me to write an email. But I do not use Apple Mail anymore. I use yahoo mail with Safari. How do I get Safari to stop opening Apple Mail?

I changed default email reader in Mail to Safari, closed Mail preferences, quit Mail. And when clicking on a mail link in Safari, it still opens Mail. And when I check the preference, it has reverted back to Mail as the Default email reader. What do I do to get it to stop openinng Mail. I want to use Yahoo mail in Safari for my email.

Error message appears when selecting emailed link but there's no problem

I upgraded to Firefox 7.0.1. Now, when I select an emailed link to a website, I always receive a General Failure error message indicating that Firefox can't reach the website. In the meantime, the thin red-light progress line appears and the website comes up fine. Thee error message appears consistently but there's rarely a problem reaching a website. Any suggestions on how to eliminate the error message?

I'm responding to my own post. I checked the error messages more carefully and found that they are Microsoft Outlook generated and not Firefox. This could still be a Firefox problem but I thought I should point this out.

Guess I answered my own question -- you can enter fake email info to set up an account in Mail in order get to Preferences. However, when I set the default email reader to Safari, then clicked a mailto: link, it opened Mail. When I checked Preferences again the default was set back to Mail. So that actually didn't work.
What did work was an extension for Safari called Mailto:. Now whenever I click a mailto: link, it composes a new Gmail message using Safari.

EMail link in Safari

When I select an eMail link in a SAFARI window it defaults to .MAC mail and directs me to set up a .MAC mail account. I want SAFARI to default to my eMail account which is ENTOURAGE. I do not want a .MAC mail account. I have been unable to find out how to get SAFARI to default to ENTOURAGE. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks

Helpful suggestions from Ken.
To supplement Ken's very helpful suggestions, you'll need to establish a Mail Account. In the initial drop down menu, select POP. Then go through the various screens. Where the installer asks for your providers info, just enter the "example" information. You'll probably get a prompt telling you "couldn't find server" or something to that effect. Doesn't matter. Select "continue".
Once established, you'll have access to the Preferences file>General where you can select your e-mail account.
Seems like this feature ought to be part of System Preferences, rather than Mail. You may want to send feedback to Apple about this situation.
