  • Safari, camino, firefox not opening web pages but IE does... any ideas why?

    i just recently moved from the US to Bosnia. after finaly getting high speed internet, i'm finding that some web pages on my macbook pro open incredibly slow or not at all while those same web pages open just fine on my pc using internet explorer. i've tried using camino and firefox in addition to safari and all have the same problem on the mac.
    does anybody have any ideas?????

    well friend, thanks again for all your help. i found a lot of help on another thread if you're interested: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1195713&tstart=0
    regardless, here's some things i did that seem to have helped for now... significantly speeding up my web browsing:
    1. I changed from WPA/WPA 2 to just WPA 2 (this seemed to have helped the most)
    2. I added two 'general' DNS addresses in my preferences/network settings (this also seemed to help):
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    3. under my preferences/network settings, I completely turned off Configure IPv6. (I don't know if this has helped but it was suggested and it doesn't seem to have hurt)
    Unless I'm connected to a cisco client, I still have very slow to no browsing on the apple discussions pages but all other pages seem to be working now without cisco.

  • Safari "error" specfic to ONE web page!  Please help...

    I have a new iMAC desktop and about a week ago I started getting this error message when I tried to access one of my favorite web sites. The error message says something like, "the string is too long...." and basically it keeps giving me that same message when I try any of the sites on this web page.
    I have removed the cookie (the first part of the string) and it might let me in just once, then when I switch to another post (I read forums) it immediately sends the same error message, with yet another string...like the strings are pages and pages of letters and numbers. (Sorry I'm not a computer geek and I don't know the proper name of the string).
    I downloaded Firefox and it works perfectly! BUT...I really like Safari and I just paid a good amount for this beautiful computer...and now my favorite web site won't work.
    Can anyone help me please?? I'm on my office Dell right now so I can't give you the exact error message...
    I appreciate anything anyone can do.
    Susan

    You know I really don't clear my cache and history (or cookies) very often at all. I've been using a Dell PC for many years now and because I'm retiring soon I wanted something safer and more user friendly (I am not really into the inner workings of a computer) for me to use. So I bought a brand new iMAC (I used a MAC years ago and loved it) for my personal use at home. I can't tell you how happy I am now that I am back to a MAC!!! But, as you can tell I'm really not up to speed on what I should be doing yet (especially with the new browser Safari).
    Anyway I'll have to look at the tutorial and hopefully this eariler problem won't come back. I certainly hope so! Right now I have a lot of help here at work, but I'll be on my own in a few months. Gulp!
    Thanks for you help,
    Susan

  • IPad Safari randomly won't open web pages

    Every now and then when I try and look at certain pages through Safari on my iPad 2 I get the message "Safari could not open the page because the server stopped responding". Its not all web pages just some of them and usually happens when I go through the Twitter app. I can view the same site on my iPhone and iMac so I know it's not that which is down. Sometimes clearing the cookies helps but other times I open a new tab, peruse another part of the web then refresh the first site and everything works.
    Does this sound familiar to anyone? I don't remember if it happened before I upgraded to iOS5 so it could be that too. Either way it's very frustrating and I even tried another web browser app but still seemed to have problems! I've tried forgetting my home network then reconnecting, I've wiped and restored the iPad and no luck, please help!

    Try this:
    Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data

  • Why does safari stop opening web pages after a while in use?

    Since upgrading to Lion, my imac (Intel) 21.5 works fine for most of the time, but frequently when using Safari to browse the internet, it will stop accessing pages, either from new searches or from history - the blue loading bar in the address panel starts, then stops. Safari itself keeps working, new tabs can be opened, history can be checked, etc. Checking the Wi-Fi shows that it is still connected, and other PCs and ipods in the house can still access the net, showing it is not a net or router problem. Restarting the machine does not usually cure the issue, only shutting down for a long period, eg overnight, when it generally starts up fine again.
    This has been happening almost since I upgraded 2 months ago, but not every time we use Safari.

    You can do some basic Safari trouble shooting by:
    Safari - Reset Safari
    Safari - Empty Cache
    You can also be just low on RAM. As a general rule your system should have about 500MB or more of FREE RAM. To check to see how much your system has open Activity Monitor - System Memory Tab and look for the amount of free RAM. You can find AM in Applications - Utilities - Activity Monitor. Remember to check when you are seeing a slow down otherwise the information will be meaningless. The graphic will look similar to:

  • Error window while opening web gallery

    I've created a few galleries with (Adobe Bridge and) FIreworks and the same error message appears whcn I click on the galleries in my web site.
    I keep getting this error message:
    Adobe flash has stopped a potentially unsafe operation.
    The folllowing local applications on your comptuer or network:
    C:\Users\...\gallery.swf
    is trying to communicate with this internet-enabled location:
    c:\users\...\deep.html
    To let this application communicate with the internet, click Settings. you must restart the application after changing your settings.
    A little more detail:
    <----(Where gallery swf is the application trying to open in the browser and deep.html is the html where this particular gallery resides.)I write this to explain further--->
    Then when I click on Settings, the error window disappears and nothing is changed so it happens again and again.
    Each time I click on the Settings button, the window just disapppears and nothing is accomplished.
    I get this everytime I try to open any of my 10 galleries.
    Please help - this is my last assignment. I graduate frm college next week and this is due Friday, Oct 26!
    Thanks in advance!
    If you want to email me, you can - [email protected] - thanks a lot!
    Doug

    How big a gallery?  Your connection might be timing out.
    You could try exporting it to the hard drive to confirm it's not a problem with the photos or gallery itself - if that works ok, you could use separate FTP software to upload it.

  • Safari slow and Not Loading Web Pages after changing Modems?

    Hello...I recently changed from an AT&T DSL modem to a Knology Cable Modem to improve speed and overall network capablity.  However, ever since I have changed I have had problems with Safary lagging or not loading the websites.  It doesn't do it all the time, but periodically.  Sometimes it is worse than others.
    Basic issue: When using Safari, it stalls when loading a website.  Sometimes it will load, other times it will say that Safari cannot load the website.  If you wait a while and retry loading it, it may then load it.
    Has anyone else seen something similar to this or know what I can do to fix the problem?  It is rather frustrating.
    Thank you,
    Jim

    If Safari is getting very slow:
    (Presumably you regularly empty your Safari cache by deleting the following file:
    Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/cache.db
    and clear your History)
    Adding Open DNS codes to your Network Preferences, should give good results in terms of speed-up as well as added security, (including anti-phishing and redirects) (Full information about Open DNS is here: http://www.opendns.com/home/nobloat ) and further independent information can be read here:
    http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57338784-263/free-dnscrypt-tool-enhances-ma c-web-security/?tag=mncol;txt
    and here:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/1146064/troubleshootdns.html?t=234
    If you are using a single computer: Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    (You can also enter them if you click on Advanced and then DNS)

  • Safari 5 doesn't open new pages after website button selected

    Hi. I am unable to load some websites after selecting some buttons on popular sites including PayPal and www.ryanair.com.
    Actually I am unable to book a flight ticket and I had to visit my friend to do so on his computer. The same happens when I try to log in into PayPal account. After hitting *"Log In"* button there is NO action with Safari 5. No new Tab, no new window, no progress bar... Nothing.
    The same happens with my MacBook. At ryanair.com after selecting the flight I am unable to proceed by hitting the button *"Select and Continue"*. Button *"New Search"* works normally.
    Exactly the same situation on both Macs. Latest Safari 5 update. Both websites works under Firefox on both computers.
    Does anybody has any idea what might be the problem?
    I have repaired permissions already - no help.
    Thanx a lot for any ideas.

    Ok...
    Uppps, there is one change - PayPal site shows some action in the status bar, but without an effect.
    If you are connecting to the internet using a cable modem, try disconnecting for 5 minutes, then reconnect and relaunch Safari.
    See if you have any Safari third party plugins... Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
    If the problem isn't third party plugins, install the v10.6.3 Combo Update It's ok to do this even if you are already running v10.6.3.
    Then repair disk permissions (again).
    Also, have you tried using a different browser??? Always good to have a back up.
    Logging into another user account, try Safari there. If you have the same problems there, then it's a system wide glitch, not just isolated to your user account.

  • Opening Web Pages

    Hello,
    I'm currently trying to open a web page within a browser. Currently I can only open a web browser with the web page. Here is the code.
    public class MyApp2
    private static final String errMsg = "Error attempting to open web page";
        public static void contURL() {
            String url= "http://www.google.com";
            String osName = System.getProperty("os.name");
            Runtime rt = Runtime.getRuntime();
            try{
                   if (osName.startsWith("Windows")) {
                                // this doesn't support showing urls in the form of "page.html#nameLink"
                        rt.exec( "rundll32 url.dll,FileProtocolHandler " + url);     }
                   else if (osName.startsWith("Mac OS")) {
                            rt.exec( "open " + url);
                   else {
                            // Do a best guess on unix until we get a platform independent way
                                // Build a list of browsers to try, in this order.
                                String[] browsers = {"epiphany", "firefox", "mozilla", "konqueror",
                                        "netscape","opera","links","lynx"};
         // Build a command string which looks like "browser1 "url" || browser2 "url" ||..."
                                StringBuffer cmd = new StringBuffer();
                                for (int i=0; i<browsers.length; i++)
                                    cmd.append( (i==0  ? "" : " || " ) + browsers[i] +" \"" + url + "\" ");
                                rt.exec(new String[] { "sh", "-c", cmd.toString() });
                        }catch (Exception e){
                              JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, errMsg + ":\n" + e.getLocalizedMessage());
    }Works well to open browsers (though it is opening in tabs and not new windows, could use some help in that too), I want to take an already open browser and open a new page leaving behind the the page currently on.

    I'd suggest reading the browser help pages for their command line arguments (if such documentation exists; generally this area of browser documentation is poor) and see if the browsers in question allow you to specify a target argument on the command line, in addition to the URL. I mean target as in the attribute to HTML links. (e.g., ). If such an argument exists, it might be different on each browser, which means you'll need to need to break up the non-Windows cases into many different cases. You might want to use "which" on unix boxes to find out which browsers are available.
    This is just a reasonable guess. I have no idea whether "target" is supported like this by any browser.

    I have a similar problem, Safari cannot load a complet page. It stalls e.g. ["38 of 42"]. sometimes it will complete loading after a long wait. just as often it will never complete the page,
    The same thing happens in chrome and firefox but safari on my iPad works just fine.
    I have the latest version of everything
    I assume there is a system problem but cleaning up permissions does not help

  • Bypass the error messages while opening the Web Analysis 9.3.1 Report

    I am using WA 9.3.1 to create a few reports. The login users will have some essbase meta-read security filters to restrict the access into certain regions and entities.
    For example:
    user a has the meta-read and read access of @idescendants (east);
    user b has the meta-read and read access of @idescendants (west);
    user c has all the accesses
    However, in the first start-up page (Web Analysis 9.3.1 dashboard), I have a dashboard which contains all the regions access. When user a login, he shall only see his own dashboard (speedometers, etc.).
    Currently the user login will get some error messages (such as "loading document produce error", etc). I wonder whether we can set the message level in Web Analysis so that there is no such error message while the user is opening the reports.
    Thanks

    Karen,
    Thanks for the reply.
    I have checked my Web Analysis report, and I still have the error message of "Error Occur while opening document. Document ID = {0}" while using the some user id to login.
    In my Web Analysis database connection preference, my setting is "user the user id and password". I have verified this (when I use "user a" to login, and in essbase connection, i can see the session with "user a").
    In the WA report, however, I use the multiple-level combo box, so that it can give me different levels of entities, for example, the top level is all regions, the 2nd level is east/west/south/ ec, and the next level is cities, and so on. And if "user a" login, he will be able to see the all regions and east, and then east cities (of course, if he select all regions, there will be no data available).
    Do you think this multiple level combo boxes can be the cause of this error message?
