Safari facebook commenting - bug?

I can't believe I'm the only person experiencing this, but I can't find a reference to it anywhere. It's been happening for maybe a fortnight(-ish), and I'm wondering whether it might possibly have started with the 10.9.5 update.
It seems to be unique (so far) to typing Facebook comments in Safari on the mac. (Doesn't happen using safari on the ipad or iphone, and nor does it happen using Chrome on the mac.)
When I begin to type in the comment box, the first character does fine, but typing the second character seems to trigger a find-on-page search (i.e. with the search box at the top right of the tab / window) - with the result that the second and subsequent characters are all entered in the page search. That leaves the first character of the intended comment languishing forlornly in a forgotten comment field. And I also have the behaviour normal to a page text search - i.e. the grey 'fog' over the whole window and instances of the first letter of the 'search' highlighted.
Happens every single time, and only solution is to manually scroll back to the comment field and continue.
Needless to say this has made safari useless for Facebook-ing, so I'm now using Chrome for FB.
Ideas anyone?

Try a restart.
Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.

  • Adding facebook comments to large product page

    hi guys I just wanted to go over the facebook intergration process *** ive read this http://kb.worldsecuresystems.com/kb/add-social-media.html
    but couldnt find the container.html page in admin, only dreamweaver.
    plus when ive checked out the forums on intergrating facebook comments there seems a work around because the current module doesnt work the way people want it. to.
    Is this still the case or should I go about intergrating facebook as described http://kb.worldsecuresystems.com/kb/add-social-media.html
    What I want to do is use it on this site on the large product section instead of the comments module ive inserted
    http://www.ceramicplanet.co.uk/bathroom-tiles/relief-white-5445-25x33cm
    would adding the script to the large product template manually work better than adding it to the facebook container.html page in the social modules folder?
    plus I got the impression peeps had trouble having the comments for that one item showing just on its own page. I want just comments for the product on show appearing on that product page not just any old list of random comments. Is this easy to do now or is there extra url tags needed?
    any advice or help will be greatly appreciated
    Dave
    oh just to say this is the code facebook gave out when I pressed get code but Ive noticed different versions on forum pages, is it right to use this
    <div id="fb-root"></div>
    <script>(function(d, s, id) {
      var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];
      if (d.getElementById(id)) return;
      js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id;
      js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_GB/all.js#xfbml=1";
      fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);
    }(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));</script>
    <div class="fb-comments" data-href="http://example.com/comments"
    data-colorscheme="The color scheme used in the plugin" data-numposts="5"
    data-width="420"></div>

    If you just want to keep it simple, Facebook has a social widget system that works from the URL, as long as the URL stays the same the comments will he there for that product or whatever you need.
    It is very easy to implment and even has a wizard to help you config the size and look.

  • Add Facebook Comments to a Lightroom HTML Gallery template

    If you prefer displaying your photos on your own website using Lightroom’s web galleries over uploading your photos to Facebook then one of the drawbacks is the lack of commenting. Fortunately, there’s a way to add Facebook Comments to your own website and gallery. See an example here. To implement this solution see the step by step tutorial:
    http://so.ca/?p=265
    Does anyone know if Lightroom templates are over-written when upgrading to a new version of Lightroom? It would be annoying to have to repeat these steps with each version upgrade.
    Thanks.

    Hi Jerfrank,
    If you are looking outside of SharePoint, I would suggest you to check Facebook SDK to integrate with your site.
    Here are few links to start with -
    https://developers.facebook.com/docs/javascript/quickstart/
    http://web.appstorm.net/roundups/social-media-roundups/15-simple-ways-to-integrate-facebook-into-your-website/
    <cite>https://facebooktoolkit.codeplex.com</cite>
    https://developers.facebook.com/samples
    https://www.facebook.com/leadingbyexample
    And a bing search for "Facebook developer API" could also help you.
    Hope this helps!

  • Why Firefox 25.0 does not show Google ads and Facebook comments and likes. All other browsers do.

    I've just upgraded to FireFox 25.0 and I have issues viewing Google ads and Facebook comments and likes on my website (wellfitstyle.com). All other browsers show Google adds in the right sidebar and Facebook comments and likes under each post. Great number of people in Eastern Europe (where I am) use FireFox and I would like to know how this issue can be fixed.
    Tnx.

    Hi there,
    Starting in Firefox 23, if a secure page includes certain types of insecure content, Firefox blocks the insecure content and a shield icon will appear in the address bar. See this article for more information about the new mixed content blocker: [[How does content that isn't secure affect my safety?]]
    To temporarily allow the mixed content to be displayed:
    *Click the '''shield icon''' [[Image:Mixed Content Shield]] in the address bar and choose '''Disable Protection on This Page''' from the dropdown menu.
    [[Image:Fx23MixedContentBlocker]]
    To allow insecure content to be displayed in all secure pages, enter '''about:config''' in the address bar and double-click on this preference, to toggle it from true to false:
    '''security.mixed_content.block_active_content'''
    You can also use this add-on instead, to toggle the preference:
    *[https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/toggle-mixed-active-content/ Toggle Mixed active content] add-on
    You may want to do this only for the current session, then reset the preference back to "true" and check back with the site to see whether it's been fixed, since this is a global setting that exposes you on all sites, not just the one you care about.

    Here is a screen shot from Use Design mode so you can comparre how it should look like. The distance is market with "X".
    Please advise,

  • Using Facebook Comments for iWeb Blog (non mobile me domain)

    Upon moving from a mobileme hosted iWeb created blog to a personal domain, I obviously lost ability to use iWeb commenting. That in-of-itself was frustrating, so I've been scouting out new possibilities. Some have recommended IntenseDebate and others, but I'm curious if anyone has had luck using Facebook Comments? http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/comments
    I've been able to use the Facebook Like HTML as a Widget not a problem, but haven't been able to get Comments to work.
    www.kellerowski.com
    Thanks in advance!

    That is because it is a plugin and plugins won't work with iWeb as far as I am aware.
    I would try http://www.intensedebate.com. It is very easy to set up and it works and you will be notified by e-mail every time somebody posts a comment. I use IntenseDebate on my own site and it works very well for me.
    Your other alternative of course is to ditch the iWeb blog and create a blog link to a blog created in WordPress - you can use http://www.wordpress.org too if you uploading to another host, so you will then have www.domain.com/Blog.

  • Facebook Comments Module

    Hello I am getting the error
    Warning: http://invalid.invalid/ is unreachable.
    What URL should I put when getting the code from the Facebook website. It wont let you leave it blank. I tried
    url="{tag_itemurl_withhost}"} &
    url="{tag_itemurl_nolink}"}
    Also what URL should I put down when interting the module into my template. Again, I tried both that was listed above without luck. I am trying to put these facebook comments for individual blog posts.

    Can you post the full context of this and where are you putting the code?
    You mentioned template but you showed tags, those types of tags do not render in templates. Only in the layouts such as web apps that support the tags.

  • Can't copy-and-paste in Facebook comments

    Suddenly, I am prevented from copy-and-paste in Facebook comments. What do I need to do?

    Does pasting work if you temporarily disable JavaScript by toggling the <b>javascript.enabled</b> pref to false on the <b>about:config</b> page after the page has finished loading?
    You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location/address bar.
    You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

  • Safari iOS 7 bug: not rendering images

    Safari has a bug, it does not render image from The Economist at all:
    http://www.economist.com/node/21586620?fsrc=scn/gp/wl/dc/politicsandpurse
    Same goes for Safari modules that are used by other apps, e.g. Google+.
    Chrome with data compression renders OK, but it does so because data compression goes through Google server, and only decoding is done on machine.
    This all took place on iPad Mini.
    Shame on Apple Inc.

    Hi there,
    I can confirm this bug.
    Not sure if this info is relevant, but this is my experience:
    I am on the FIDO network, and so are two other people I know.
    We all tried blocking numbers, and calls ring right through. Text messages are blocked successfully. (never tried facetime)
    I also tried a ROGERS device running IOS7, and was successfully able to block my phone call from ringing through. HOWEVER, my call was forwarded to their voicemail, I was able to leave a voicemail for the person, and they did get an alert that they had a new voicemail.
    I have not yet had a chance to test this on Bell, Telus, or any other carriers.
    Spoke to Apple, and they advised me to do a hard reset (hold both buttons to shut off and reboot the phone), and if that fails to do an iOS restore.
    I have yet to try this, but hopefully someone will have a better solution.

  • Safari 4 has bug(s)

    I did not know that Safari 4 has bug(s), and went ahead to accept the Mac OS Update this afternoon. Now, I found out that I lost certain functions online such as I could not edit my webpage because Safari browser would not go to the webpage where I had to get on. Is there a recourse that I can reverse the Safari version to the older one?
    Thanks.
    Robert

    Hi, Dimaxum,
    Thank you very much for posting back your good experience with Safari 4 in working with your website. Well, my website through Verizon does not need any software to upload or download. However, the problem was that I could not even click the icon for going to the window of my editable website. This happens in cases of both using Mac OS 10.4.11 and Mac OS 10.5.7. In the meantime, I could still go to my website with the old Safari 3.2.3. I checked the functions with different computers with Safari 4, which showed the same problems.
    I believe that Safari 4 is far from perfect. Many users are complaining like I did. Worst of all, they could not uninstall Safari 4. I have spent more than a day, before I finally used 'archive and reinstall" to solve the problems. Now, I am happy again in using my computers with Safari 3.2.3 in both Mac OS 10.4.11 and and Mac OS 10.5.7. I hope that the bugs are only limited in these functions. But, who knows. One more thing that I realized is with Safari 4, the computer could not complete permission repair. I also hope Apple would move quickly to solve the problems.

  • Facebook Comments widget will show on Safari only and not on FireFox, Chrome or IE

    I even tried on different computers on Win and OS and still no luck.
    Any idea what am I doing wrong?

    Hi,
    I see that there is a blank container in front of the image due to which you are not able to click on the image itself,
    When I delete the container it starts to work, http://project02.businesscatalyst.com/Jing/2012-08-03_0135.swf

  • In safari/Facebook, the touchscreen function only works sporadically.  Seems to work in other applications.

    In Facebook via Safari, the touchscreen function works sporadically for Like, Comment, Share.  On all but like if I depress long enough I get a drop-down menu and can choose OPEN and execute from there.  This does not work with LIKE.  Touchscreen seems to work on other websites and applications.

    Read through the 'more like this' over on the right. Facebook has apparently changed their coding and no longer plays well with mobile browsers. your choices until Facebook fixes things is to either not use your mobile devices or find a third party app. I've had some success with Facely HD, but there are plenty of others out there.
    Nothing is wrong iwth your iPad and there's nothing you can do but wait for facebook to fix things.

  • Safari Frame Rows Bug (white block)

    http://www.selfcrew.com/websitetest/album_dubberneck.html
    I'm building a site that uses framesets (outdated I've heard). None the less, on load, Safari will sporadically add a giant white space between the top and bottom frames. The big white space will disappear if you resize the window (by dragging the bottom right corner). It won't happen every time which is especially weird, but if one refreshes the page again and again it happens at least 1 in 5 loads. This does not happen in any other browser, and I downloaded Safari 4.0.2 this morning.
    I'd love to know if anyone knows a fix for this, either Java or just some html that I overlooked. I'd be happy to post the code by request. Thanks in advance!

    You've got a bigger problem.  See attached screenshot from Firefox when text size is increased in browser (Zoom, text only)
    Start by using the code valiation tools below and fix reported errors.  90% of browser rendering problems are code related.  If your code is clean, chances are good that your pages will perform reasonably well in all the major browsers.

    Conditional Comments are only recognized by MS Internet Explorer.  You can't use CCs to target other browsers.  But this is a moot point since your problem isn't caused by bugs in either Safari or Chrome.
