Safari Fails to Open Page- Cannot Establish Secure Connection

I am using Safari at my home comuputer (Dell, Windows XP. I recently installed it within the past two weeks. Just this Sunday, I noticed that there are several pages that I haven't been able to view and the same message "Safari can’t open the page “https://cavs.bpcc.edu/” because it couldn’t establish a secure connection to the server “cavs.bpcc.edu”" pops up, except it uses the current URL.
I have to open it in Internet Explorer to view it. What's the deal? I tried looking at my security settings.

I have the same problem on my macbook. Happens for certain sites.
I get the same or similar message from safari and opera.
It doesn't happen on my imac, which is sitting on the same wireless network.
Any ideas please?

  • MacBook Pro "cannot establish secure connection"

MacBook Pro "cannot establish secure connection" can't connect to Internet, tried on two separate networks and via wifi and Ethernet. Any suggestions??
Mac book was connected and working then started giving error message "failed to establish secure connection" now cannot connect to Internet via any network. Either by wifi or Ethernet. However in network settings it says it is connected. iTunes also cannot connect so don't think it is a safari problem. Have also checked networks with other devices and the network itself seems to be working.
Have further problems with syncing phone (doesn't seem to registering removal of music, storage is not freeing up) but I am hoping that solving Internet connection may solve that problem as well
Apologies if i am posting in the wrong place!
Any suggestions greatly appreciated as I am stuck.

  • Netflix cannot establish secure connection

    Hi,
I used to be able to access my Netflix account without any issues (I used unblock us).
Now, it seems that everytime I click on to it, it comes up with netflix cannot establish secure connection.
I tried Safari and Chrome and the same problem.
I've tried to delete my history and reset my cache, but to no avail.
I'm using Safari Version 7.0.1 and my Mac OS X is Maverick (10.9.1).
Please help! I'm paying for both Netflix and Unblock via subscription and throwing money down the drain...

Disable or bypass "Unblock" and test.

  • Safari fails to open pages

    Hi all,
Hope somebody can help me with this small problem I've encountered with Safari: lately it fails to open pages. This has been going on for about two weeks now; I can't say if this problem is a result of updating to 10.4.9. because recently I also started using the OnyX maintenance application.
When clicking a link in Safari, I often get this message:
"Safari can’t open the page “http://..." The error was: “bad server response” (NSURLErrorDomain:-1011) Please choose Report Bug to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message."
Any ideas on how to fix this problem?
    Cheers!

    Hello to both of you...
I agree sometimes you need to hit the refresh button and it might work. As a general rule I don't experience this problem unless I'm having network issues or if I would open many tabs at once I might have to refresh a few...
As for the browser I agree there are times Firefox has an advantage or two over Safari. Remember Safari is not a Gecko browser but based on KHTML...so it is a different browser all together. I think most people on this forum do keep Safari and a Gecko browser on hand to take care of any situation they would encounter on the web. Personally I use Camino instead of Firefox because it's faster and it's written in Cocoa therefore it looks much nicer. However Firefox does have advantages as well...
    Hope that helps a bit?

  • Safari "Failed to open page" errors

What would cause Safari to suddenly start getting "Failed to open page" errors from I web-site I was successfully browsing 2 minutes ago?
I was browsing REI.com; viewed several different pages, then tried to go to a different REi.com page and all of a sudden Safari won't load the page. and reports a "Failed to Open Page" error, with the excuse "the server where this page is located isn't responding"??
I thought maybe my internet connection had failed, but I tried some other sites cnn.com, apple.com and everything is just fine.
Then i went to a different computer on the same network and tried rei.com from Firefox and its just fine.
    Any ideas or suggestions?

If your Safari won't open, one or more of the following procedures should fix it:
    1. Go to Home/Library/Safari/ folder and remove the following two files:
    ¥ history.plist
    ¥ lastsession.plist
(Safari may not load properly If these two files are corrupted.)
    2. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari/ and remove the contents of that folder.
(These are just webhistory files and are not required for Safari to run. However, similar to preference files, problems can arise if they have become corrupt.)
    3. Locate the cookies.plist file that's located in the Home/Library/Cookies/ folder and remove it.
(Again, faults in stored cookies may interfere with Safari's launch.)
    4. Check whether any of your third-party internet plug-ins may be interfering with the launch of Safari by carefully moving them to the desktop (do NOT delete them at this stage). You can find these in two places:
Home/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ folder, and Global plug-ins are located in the Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/ folder.
Also look in Library/Input Managers where other third party add-ons may lurk. If you find a SIMBL folder, please note that some SIMBLE.bundles may require updating or possibly removal.
Restart Safari and place them back in the correct folders, one at a time, closing and re-opening Safari each time. If you discover that one of them was causing the problem with launching Safari, trash it and download and install a fresh copy.

  • Safari says "cannot establish secure connection" in many sites.

    I am using Safari 7.1
Whenever I try to open sites like Facebook and others a message is displayed that reads "safari cannot establish a secure connection".
Is this the problem of my Safari (or my Mac) or is it the problem of the connection.
Please answer cause I am a little worried about my Mac.
    Thank You.

My Safari 8.0 (OS X Yosemite 10.10.1) has the same trouble as well, even my macbook have completely clean reinstalled.

  • Safari cannot establish secure connection beyond loading homepage

I have Safari 1.3.2 on a G3 running OS 10.3.9. Until recently all was well. Now, when I click on Safari it loads my home page 'news.google.com. but whether I click on URLs on that page or insert other URLs, I ALWAYS get a dialog box informing me that a secure connection cannot be established to whatever URL I have chosen. I have reset Safari without any success. I have no problems accessing the same URLs using Internet Explorer but I prefer Safari. HELP!

  • Safari fails to open page when other downloads are in progress

    I have a 2.8GHz 4GB Ram machine with Mac OS X 10.5.4
    I have a broadband connection - approximately 500 Kbps
It seems that ever time I have something downloading(e.g. a file from iTunes ) and I try to view pages with Safari I get the "Safari Can't open the page ........ because server not responding" message.
It's as if Safari isn't able to share the internet connection !@£$£@*!
If there are no other downloads in progress, then web pages load no problem.
    Anyone got any ideas ?

Depending on the server software used for the downloads it may be using up all of your bandwidth leaving little for Safari.
Use the Safari Activity window to see how the page elements load while your download is occurring.
If you see "timed out" messages then you're going to have troubles.

  • Safari "Failed to Open Page", unlike Firefox, Netscape, etc.

I am getting this only with Safari -
Safari can’t connect to the server.
Safari can’t open the page “http://www.apple.com/” because it could not connect to the server “www.apple.com”.
This happens on every page I try and open, but only with Safari. I am using firefox right now.
I have erased the cache, trashed the com.apple.safari.plist thingy, turned off popup blocker and everything else that I have read on these posts.
This is very similar to Karen C's problem from earlier today, except their discussion stopped short of telling what to do if only Safari is not working. What are the next steps to fix this?
Also, until I get this fixed, how do I set email preferences so that hyperlinks do not try and launch Safari?
    Thanks! -
    Mark

    thanks anyway

  • Safari cannot establish secure connection to the server

I cannot establish a secure connection to the server using a CAC card. Any ideas?

Have you made sure your software is completely up to date?
You should be at one of the following:
    10.6.8
    10.7.5
    10.8.5
    10.9.4
And let us know if it works!

  • Safari Cannot Establish Secure Connection

    Hello !
i am trying to connect to this site and i always get a Secure Connection Problem.
It is the site of my university where  i check my grades.
I always get the picture i attach.
    It is very annoying tbh.
Any suggestions ? I dont have the same problem when using any other browser or i try to connect via iPad or iPhone.
Only Safari on ML has this issue.
I have switched off all my extensions and it didnot work.
Also i dont have Rapport (or how it is called).
Thanks in Advance for your help.

I can't test the site, but it's presenting an expired server certificate. That may or may not prevent you from connecting to it. Here are some simple steps you can try.
Check that the date (including the year) and time shown by your system clock are correct.
Restart your router and broadband device, if different.
Try another browser, such as Firefox.
If you connect to the Internet through an HTTPS or SOCKS proxy server, follow the instructions in this support article, or deselect the proxy entirely.
Boot in safe mode and try again.
Follow the instructions in this support article to change your DNS settings.
If possible, test on a different network, such as a public Wi-Fi hotspot or the cellular network of your phone.

  • Sarfi cannot establish secure connection to Apple website?

Im setting up a brand new iPad 3 that I bought for my father for his birthday.  I set up a new Apple ID account and when trying to download an app I get redirected to a website for more verification. But once I get redirected a window stating "Cannot open page: safari cannot establish a secure connection" pops up and i cant move on nor does it give troubleshooting prompts.  I can access other websites no problem. I have restsarted safari. Restarted the iPad. Deleted cookies. Nothing is working. I would be surprised to learn it was a website problem being that it's an Apple website and I'm trying to access it on the newest Apple product.  I've been reading the discussion boards and nothing has been working. Please help!

I finally went into my services and looked at every service that wasn't set to start automatically and read the description.  If it sounded like it could be enabled safely (obviously that was a decision I had to make for myself and the security of my machine) I enabled it and set it to start automatically. Anything with regards to peer to peer, internet related, and homesharing was certainly something I considered.  There was also a service called IKE that was stopped for some reason that was recommended never to be stopped.  I personally enabled over 35 different services.  Somewhere in there (and I have no idea which service or combination of services) it fixed my problem.  The interesting part was that I never went in and stopped any of these services or changed the status on my own, so I have no idea where they got changed - and nowhere in any of the reinstalled did Apple products set the services back to what they needed them to be.  Go figure.
As an aside - Bonjour was enabled AND running but iTunes kept telling me it wasn't.  That is what started my search in the services to start with.  I did try iTunes support but they were less than helpful and directed me back to all the same tech bulletins or to call for paid support - which I wasn't about to do for a free program that just stopped working.
iTunes is now opening like a charm and is connecting perfectly for me.  Obviously, this is something you'd want to do with caution and I'd suggest that before you blanket go and do as many as I did that you might want to carefully select the ones that you look at setting.  My first reboot took a bit but after that things have been running smoothly.  Your mileage may vary and take this with caution.  You may want to enable a few at a time and test instead of doing what I did.
