Safari Favorites disappeared

My Safari bookmarks/favoites have disappeared from my Safari app. When I click on the bookmark/favorites symbol I get a message that says "Cannot Open Page - Safari cannot open the page because the address is invalid."
When I go into settings/Safari/Favorites I see my bookmarks listed. But I cannot access them through Safari.
Note that I do not sync my booksmarks in I-Cloud. I haven't done that ever since Apple took away the ability to sync bookmarks via USB connection to my MacBook Pro a year or so ago. But until today I was able to find my bookmarks/favorites on Safari in my I-pad.
Any idea what is going wrong and how I can fix it?

Perhaps if you have a backup which contains your bookmarks.

Safari Favorites Disappear on MacBook Pro

Like many people, I have hundreds of Bookmarks in Safari (v6.1.1).
I keep quite a few folders on the Favorites Bar.
I noticed recently that some of the folders have disappeared from the Favorites Bar on my MacBook Pro (OSX 10.8.5)
I thought at first I mistakenly deleted one but now it's happened to many over the last few weeks.
The Favorite folder is there one day and gone the next.
BTW, I also sync my iPhone 4s and iPad3 via iCloud if that has any bearing.

Interestingly enough, after reading your post I went to look at the Bookmarks on the iPhone.
Since the iPhone hierarchy shows all sub-folders, it could see right away that these missing Favorites has been moved INTO other unrelated folders...but only on the iPhone and not the MacBook!
Very strange but still it was an easy fix.
I did a sync and then manually moved the folders back onto the Favorites Bar on the MacBook where they belonged.
Hopefully they'll behave and stay there.
Do you know of any way to assure this doesn't happen again?

I too was having the same problem However, I could access both the menu bar and the dock by hovering my mouse over them so it wasn't a huge problem but I prefered having it there anyway. I was not in full screen mode and I could still go into full screen mode if I wanted to. I found the easiest solution was to just quit safai and restart it, but it might not work for you considering you couldn't access you menu bar either way.
I found this article that allows you to hide/show the menu bar and the dock through TextEdit (didn't work for me) http://www.mactricksandtips.com/2009/07/hide-the-menubar-or-dock-in-specific-app s.html It is pretty old so it might not work for lion and a bit risky if you don't know what you're doing so I wouldn't really recommend doing it this way.
And KSheppard, I know it's not really any of my buisness, but the way to get answers to a question isn't by insulting others and being quick-tempered. Even if you feel like you were insulted first, don't try snapping at people who aren't obligated to help you. Honestly, it just makes everything easier if everybody is cooperative and polite.

Oh my gosh I had the EXACT same problem, and for ages I couldn't figure out how to fix it until today. Here's what I did:
First I went onto my computer, opened itunes, and un-installed tumblr, vine and kik. These were the apps I was having problems with (it said I had them on my phone but, like you, they didn't show).
Then I went to the itunes store, searched for each one, and it said I could update them so I did (just FYI: for tumblr a window popped up saying "please click ok to confirm you are 17 years or older", so I did that also)
When I went back to my phone and tried installing them again (still on my computer), it worked!

Quit Safari completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the Safari icon. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If that didn't work - try this. Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

Recently the close tab function in safari has disappeared.

My Safari tabs were missing the "x" close button as well.
What ended up working for me was ->Force Quit->Safari.
I noticed quitting Safari from the Dock does not completely close it out, and from the Safari->Quit Safari menu option is grayed out. Force quit seemed to be the only way to end it.

Safari has disappeared! [iPhone 4S]

Help! My Safari would not open, so I turned off my phone and then turned it on again, hoping that would help. When I turned it back on, Safari had disappeared. Checked all my screens--not there. Did a search and nothing pops up. Tried to re-download it from the App Store but it would not let me. Reset Home Screen Layout in hopes that would make it come out of hiding but it's still not there. Then, I decided to just download Chrome and forget about it, but it said Chrome downloaded but is nowhere to be found. When I check it again in the app store, it says "OPEN" which, when I click, nothing happens. Any ideas?? Phone is updated to 7.0.4 and I have restarted the device MANY times in hopes of resolving the issue, and Safari restrictions are set to "ON". It is connecting fine to my computer.
ETA: I can't download ANY apps, for some reason.

How to export safari favorites to chrome?

Hi,
How can I export Safari favorites installed on my Ipad IOS7,
to Chrome favorites installed on the same Ipad,
WITHOUT using Icloud or Itunes.
It is forbidden to make use of Icloud or Itunes. (Company security policy). So these 2 programs can't be used on PC or Ipad.
I cannot find the solution on the internet, can it be done?

I think this information is stored in
/Users/Library/Safari/Form Values
I've no idea if it's possible to read it (opened in TextEdit, it's encrypted).
But I wonder if it's possible to use a unix command that concatenates the two Form Value files on each Mac into one? If you want to try this make sure you keep a back up of each original Form Value file belonging to each Mac before messing about. Safari should be closed too.
Copy both files onto a single Desktop, you'll need to name them uniquely, say FormValues1 and FormValues2 (note no spaces) then type this command in Terminal (Applications/Utilities):
cat ~/Desktop/FormValues2 >> ~/Desktop/FormValues1
Then rename FormValues1 back to the original name of Form Values and move it back into the correct folder:
/Users/Library/Safari/Form Values
I expect you'll have duplicate values in that file now and I've no idea how Safari will handle this scenario, maybe it will clean up but so long as you keep a copy of the original Form Values files you can restore the status quo afterwards. Good luck.

It is not possible to delete Safari, it may have moved to a different screen. Do a search for the app or you can click on your settings>general>reset then select reset home screen layout.

Why do Safari extensions disappear when I quit the program? They are all from the Apple extensions pages. I started manually adding extensions because the Add This bar disappeared when I clicked the extensions off button and I couldn't find it to get it back. I liked Add This because it added an extra bar below the url box with the extensions in color. I tried to add the Pocket extension to Add This with a supposed installer from the web site but it disappeared when I clicked on it and didn't add it. Now when I add extensions from the Apple Safari extensions pages there are just little grey images on buttons beside the url box. I quit Safari at night and the next morning when I start the program the extensions are gone. They were all enabled which appears to be the default. Also want to know if Add This is no longer supported.

Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Use the search box in the toolbar of the Keychain Access window to search for an item named "Safari Extensions List". If found, delete it. Quit Keychain Access.
Quit and relaunch Safari.
