Safari/Firefox Font problem

Hey everyone, i downloaded some new fonts to use for photoshop and pixelmator but after i was done it installed one of the fonts as some kind of default in both my internet browsers. not all the font but some of it is now some graffitti font and its incredibly hard to read.
Thought i fixed it twice already but no dice!
Help?

Cobal --
You need to find the culprit font, because it's conflicting with your regular fonts.
One really weird one is called "Alien."
At any rate, what you have to do is open up for Font Book application
and just take the time to look at the sample of each font in there.
The problem font is written poorly and is replacing one of the usual ones on webpages.

• Safari & Firefox having problems with the Apple Store

Hi there,
I'm having issues using the Apple Store I'd really appreciate some help with. Whenever I go there, whether I'm using Firefox or Safari, I always get a pop-up menu come down, even when I haven't clicked on anything. And it won't go away, so I can't see alot of the stuff on the site, making it unusable. It's best described by a screen shot:

The box on the right comes up without me clicking on anything, the activity wheel at the top of it never changes into anything (just keeps spinning round) and there is no 'close' or 'cancel' button to make it go away. If you look at the bottom of the pop-up, you can see it doesn't even render properly.
I called the Apple Store number about this and he said to clear all my private data. I have done that in Safari, as it's not my main browser so doesn't matter to me. In Firefox I have only partially done this; I cleared all cookies, the cache, browsing history, download history, saved form information and authenticated sessions. Neither worked to make the pop-up box go away. I could not face clearing saved passwords or saved sessions (with my Tab Mix Plus add-on) in Firefox, so I'm going to try anything else I can think of to solve this before resorting to that.
I'm guessing this is some problem in the overall system, rather than in either of the browsers, given that they both do it. Would something like Onyx or Cocktail help?
Also, both my browsers are quite old; Firefox is 1.5.0.6 and Safari is 2.0.4... I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but I'm hoping not. With alot of plug-ins and an already overloaded computer, I'd rather not update to the more processor-intensive new versions. I want a new computer soon, so I'm hoping I can put-off updating til then.
So if anyone can tell me what to do, I'd be most grateful. I really need to use the Apple Store to look into what Mac to get to upgrade, and right now I just can't shop properly.
Thanks,
Charity

We are all just fellow users here and would have no way of knowing. You'll need to call the Apple Store and ask.
Regards.

• Firefox font problem

Hello,
I've been experiencing a lot of problems lately regarding Firefox and font rendering. I keep seeing the problem displayed in this image:
http://img61.imageshack.us/img61/5748/firefoxfontap1.png
It appears to happen whenever a font changes on a webpage (such as going from normal text to a url, or going from one font to another). It only appears in Firefox (and sometimes Mozilla Thunderbird). Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any advice on what I should do to fix it?

Hello,
This might be a simple solution. Try trashing this file and see if it makes a difference.
org.mozilla.firefox.plist It's here: /Home/Library/Preferences. Open the Preferences folder, scroll almost down to the bottom of the list, locate that file, drag it to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot. See if that makes a diff with your fonts in Firefox.
If that doesn't do the trick... launch Firefox. Click Firefox from the Menu, then click Preferences. In the Preferences window click the Content button. At the bottom where it says: Fonts and Colors click the Advanced button. Click the box where it says: Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above. See if that helps...

especially in boards
look at this pic, to understand it
http://www.n3rv-net.de/mycorner/ff
i think it started, when i installed some fonts wrong.
i tried to delete them and now firefox doesnt do what it is told to do
thanks

Tom, just out of curiosity, I know what keystrokes produce
a smiley face, and a winkie. But our OP here has several with
the "Cool" smiley -- the one with the sunglasses.
Can you produce the sunglasses with keystrokes?
The only reason I'm wondering, is maybe he's loaded on a smiley/avatar
program that is messing with it, as well. Just a thought, along with your great advice.

• Safari/FireFox Preview Problem on iMac

Running the latest Snow Leopard and Dreamweaver CS4 on iMac. Developing a site in PHP after installing XAMPP. Go to preview a page in both Safari and Firefox and all that shows up is the text and question marks where images are suppose to be. The server has to be working if it is processing the page. I check the source code and everything seems to be there but the images aren't showing up and the CSS isn't working at all - just shows text. Have tried putting the files in both the "Sites" and "htdocs" folders and get the same results. I actually developed the pages on a PC and they worked fine there on FireFox and IE. Tried developing a page independent of the site in question and got the same results. Any clues to why the CSS and images aren't working, though the code shows it to be there?
I'm new to Mac, but the XAMPP install and everything seems to be pretty straight forward. Again, I feel pretty good that that XAMPP is working. Is it the browsers, Mac, or Dreamweaver?
Thanks for any help. Don't have files to post since I'm away from the office right now.

I uploaded the files to my web hosting account to test the browsers. Both Safari and FireFox are showing the site correctly. But locally, the css is not working and images aren't showing up. All you see is the text and question marks where photos are suppose to be. When you view the source code everything looks fine. Any clue to what is going on? Is it Dreamweaver? Browsers? Mac? XAMPP?

• Firefox fonts in KDE extremely tiny

I'm experiencing what seems to be a pretty common problem with the firefox fonts appearing really small in KDE.  I've tried several things:  Installed gtk-qt-engine --> That makes gtk apps look better in kde, but doesn't solve the firefox font problem.  I've also tried altering the fonts and dpi in the firefox setttings as well.  When I start x with
startx -- -dpi 96
That seems to blow up the fonts and firefox does appear much better.  However, is there a cleaner way to do this?  My dpi is listing at 72 right now.

Yes, that's because of pango.
I used to experience the small fonts, but after I set MOZ_DISABLE_PANGO to 1 the fonts were bigger. In addition, I think the small fonts are better.

• Strange font problem in Safari, only in one account

Hi,
Safari (3.2.1) renders small fonts on some pages incorrectly, but does so only on one user account. On nytimes.com, for example, the headlines are all fine, but the text is thin and hard to read.
I have cleared caches, deleted User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.safari.plist, used Onyx to clear out various User caches, and checked to make sure I don't have Helvetica Fractions or Times Phonetic in my Font Book (these had mentioned as problems in various posts). In my own account, Firefox 3 renders those same texts correctly. So the problem seems to be isolated to Safari on one account. I would be grateful to hear if you can suggest a remedy.
Best,
Michel

Hi Michel,
Might be a problem with a local font, or settings within Safari's preferences.
Within Safari, make sure your preference settings are correct.
In the Appearance panel, default encoding is "Western (ISO 1), Standard and Fixed Width Fonts - I set mine to Skia. I believe the default font is Times. Either works fine.
In the Advance panel, make sure the Style Sheet is set to "none".
Outside of Safari, open Font Book from your Applications Folder. Highlight All Fonts, then scan the list. If you see any blue dots, that indicates a duplicate in your Font collection. You can remove the duplicates as follows: single-click on the first font listed, then Command/A keys to select "all". Then, go to the edit menu and select "resolve duplicates".
Also, with everything still selected, in the File Menu, select "Validate Fonts". If errors appear, correct them by removing the corrupted font. Lastly, download a copy of Font Nuke. This will allow you to clean the Font cache.

• Firefox was working on my new iMac but then, after switching on recently, won't connect to the web – whereas Safari has no problem.

===
Hi
I bought an iMac a week ago and installed Firefox via Safari. It worked fine for a while but, after a recently switching on, it won't connect to the web whereas Safari has no problems.
I've tried following the Firefox Help, looking into the iMac firewall, but still no luck.
I've no idea whether related or not but yesterday I had a system glitch where the iMac stated no wi-fi was installed and only connected via a physical lead to my house router. Also, there was no sound output via Safari. However, after booting up today all seems well – apart from Firefox still not working. It loads the start page but can't access the web.
I have Little Snitch running, and wonder if that's the culprit... but it's working fine with Safari, seemingly.
(Finally, how do I stop a dialogue box appearing on start-up saying that "To open “X” you need a Java runtime. Would you like to install one now?)
Any ideas anyone?
Cheers
Rob / Sheffield / UK

On the wireless networks that your Mac has had trouble connecting to, do you know which Wireless Security type (WEP, WPA, or WPA2) is being used?
If it is WEP, one of the problems is that the actual standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.   In order to make things easier, vendors use certain algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling the use of simple easy to remember WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys. The problem is that different vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a ASCII password on an AEBS will be hashed differently on a non-Apple client and vice versa.   You may find the following Apple Support article helpful.

• Font Problems with Safari

I've been trying to fix this font problem I'm haveing. I go someplace like ebay and most of the fonts are fine but some fonts are not the ones I want. And when I go to the perfences nothing happens. Then I go to the font book and I can't find the font. I tryied to reset Safari and stills the same problem.
Macbook Pro, Intel Imac, PowerMac Quad G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Back up all data.
Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and the support article linked below for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them, then boot in safe mode* (by holding down the shift key at the startup chime) to rebuild the font caches. Boot again as usual and test.
Mac 101: Font Book
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, you can’t boot in safe mode.

• Ebay will not load on safari, firefox or camino, but all other sites load without any problem. Can anyone help?

ebay will not load on safari, firefox or camino, but all other sites load without any problems. Why is this? Can anyone help?

It should be: Click on Home Folder (the House) and to the right Library is shown, click on the arrow on the Library folder to reveal its contents and then click on Cookies to reveal its contents and then move the Cookies.plist to the Trash as Carolyn suggests.
Then try eBay again.

• Problems with iweb and safari - 'buttons' not working in safari/firefox...

Hello. Help! I've been using iweb for a while with no probs - but on trying to launch my most recent site I'm finding the navigation buttons (graphic images not text buttons) work fine in iweb on my mac, plus fine on a PC but only partially in safari/firefox browsers... see sarahgreen.me and you will see that none of them work on the home page. Is this some kind of bug? I was wondering if it is anything to do with there being too many objects on the page or something? They are fine on a PC.
Thanks for any ideas.
Sarah

In iWeb do Command-Shift-L to see the layout of the page.
The content in the Navigation layer is blocking the content of the Header layer. The body layer is empty.
Move ( +Use Command-drag+ ) EVERYTHING in the Navigation layer and EVERYTHING in the Header layer INTO the Body layer.
Put content where it belongs.

• Russian font problem in Safari/mac

Hi all.
I have a problem concerning character encoding when I use Safari under Mac.
I am a developer. All the texts in my site are shown normally, only one text group, that comes from another SQL table, isn't encoded normally (Russian letters aren't shown).
Maybe the problem is in my SQL tables? But both of the tables (the one, the text of which isn't shown, and the one, that is shown normally) have character set UTF8.
I don't know where to look for the problem...
I would appreciate any help!
Lili

I am actually sure that the porblem text is in UTF 8, because this is the encoding used for the SQL table, and the text is taken from this table =>concequently it has UTF-8 encoding, right?
Not necessarily. Declaring something to be a certain encoding doesn't make it so. It is not uncommon to find data entered somewhere in the wrong encoding. On a web page, you can use View > Text Encoding to switch the encoding which a browser uses to read a text and thus perhaps find out if it is something other than what it is declared. If it is practical in your case you might try the alternative cyrillic encodings available in Safari on your problem text.

• Missing font problem

Fireworks is not reflecting enabled and disabled fonts- There
are fonts that I cannot use in fireworks (even though they are
active, and available in Photoshop), and makes available fonts I
have disabled.
I've tried changing permissions, deleting prefs, font caches-
Nothing seems to work.

I've tried using three browsers (Safari, Firefox and Chrome) and the Flash Player acts the same in all three, so the problem is not the browser. I'm on a new MacBook Pro running 10.6.3.

• Type3 Fonts problems since adobe reader version 9

hello adobe support team,
i develop software for a client, who has a problem with his pdfs since the adobe reader version 9. Older versions have no problems. Its has something to do with the Type3 Fonts.
The generated pdf have since the version 9 a blue box, before the image/font is correct.
* There is changment to the version 9 in the point type3 ?
* There is the chance that in the next pdf reader version it works again?
thank you for help
ps:
i could send a pdf example

You should not be required to enter a password to download a password protected  pdf file. Only opening the file. Let use be a little bit more careful with telling us what is going on by describing what you are doing step by step. Are you downloading a file using Safari, Firefox or Chrome? What version number of the program or are you using another utility like Fetch or  Interarchy. Let us assume you are using Safari for the moment. Are you double clicking on a link or control/right clicking on the the url to download the file. Can you tell the name of the file you are downloading?

• Typekit Web font problem - only in PC browers

Hi. We have developed a site in Muse using a particular font from Typekit. The font in question is 'Quicksand'.
When we publish the site onto BC for viewing, on a Mac (Safari & Chrome browsers) the font shows fine, and on iPhone/iPad too. When we view it on a PC (IE8, Chrome, Firefox) it is either very feint (Chrome) or almost totally illegible and distorted (IE8 & Firefox).
We changed the font to another from Typekit on one particular page and the problem was solved.
Not fancying changing all the text, menus etc etc on the whole site, any ideas what could cause one particular font to not work like this?
Many thanks
Nathan

I'm having the same Muse Web Font problem. Web Fonts are beautiful in Design Mode but when in Preview Mode they're a mess. When I publish they render like in Preview Mode, a mess. They display incorrectly when viewing on a PC from any browser I've tried: IE, Firefox, Safari, Chrome and Opera. They look great on my iPhone but I don't have another Mac OS device from which to view. This happens with ALL Web Fonts.
Please see samples: 1) Muse Design Mode. 2) Muse Preview Mode. 3) Firefox PC. 4) iPhone.
The text displayed in images 1 and 4 is crisp but in images 2 and 3 is pixelated and misshapen. Can someone explain what's causing this and offer a solution?
Thanks,
~Bob
