Safari/Firefox trouble

Every time I try loading Pandora radio, Safari and Firefox hang, then I have to Force Quit them. I was doing some Google research and I tried the "corrupted plist file" solution but Pandora still doesn't load and the browsers continue to hang. The problem started when I was on another site just today, and I am lost as to what to do next. I want to uninstall/install both browsers, but I don't know how to back-up my bookmarks.
Also, I'm not sure if it should have anything to do with it, but I only have 1.2 GB of 111.47 GB free. Hope someone out there can help me.

The Pandora URL is www.pandora.com. I went to the site again where I initially noticed the problem and the browsers hang again (both of them). The URL for that site is www.thelifefiles.com.
I updated my flash player, but the problem persists.

I'm thinking it most likely has to do with memory available. I'm not too savvy on this area. Is there a program/app that lists files that have not been used or receommends what files to get rid of?
Edit: I will reboot my computer and post an update in the morning.

  • Built-in iSight not working in Safari/Firefox after 10.6 or 10.6.1 update

    Hello,
My built-in iSight is no longer working in Safari or Firefox. For example, if I were to go to a website to broadcast my webcam, the flash applet comes up asking to allow/deny the use of camera, I allow, but the camera does not engage (green light does not turn on).
The iSight works fine in Photo booth, skype, iChat etc...
I've had this problem since 10.6, and updated 10.6.1 with no luck.
    Thanks,
    Lee

My iSight is working for Photobooth but no other app. Skype, Safari/Firefox, CamCamX etc. All I get is a pure green screen. To confuse you further when I chose what camera to use it either says "Built in iSight" or "Built in iSight Leopard" - Leopard gives me a green screen and no leo gives me the issue "in use with another application".
sorry if this is off topic
    Hello danleedham
From these symptoms, you have software problems. It may be difficult to determine precisely where.
If you have not yet used your Disk Utility to repair permissions, do so now and then test again.
If permissions repair does not help, test with other Apple apps like iMovie and iChat. If even Apple apps give problems, create a new user account as suggested in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 and test the Apple apps again.
If nothing but PhotoBooth works in any user account you test, and especially if you still see different camera error messages, either seek help from an Apple Service Technician or backup all important files and then reinstall your Macs software. After reinstalling your Mac software, test iSight with Apple apps before reinstalling any third party apps. If you can make iSight work reliably, add any necessary third party apps and peripherals one-at-a-time, testing between each addition. This kind of testing will let you determine whether your software is properly installed and whether any of your non-Apple system elements is causing your trouble.

I was wondering if there is any top free app for cleaning up ...
There is no such thing, since the problems you are describing can have various causes. Seeking anything claiming to "clean" your Mac is asking for trouble, since all of those products are scams, whether they are "free" or not.
If you are having trouble with your Mac, describe what it is. Be as specific as possible. For general recommendations read below.
There will always be threats to your information security associated with using any Internet - connected communications tool:
You can mitigate those threats by following commonsense practices
Delegating that responsibility to software is an ineffective defense
Assuming that any product will protect you from those threats is a hazardous attitude that is likely to result in neglecting point #1 above.
OS X already includes everything it needs to protect itself from viruses and malware. Keep it that way with software updates from Apple.
A much better question is "how should I protect my Mac":
Never install any product that claims to "clean up", "speed up", "optimize", "boost" or "accelerate" your Mac; to "wash" it, "tune" it, or to make it "shiny". Those claims are absurd.Such products are very aggressively marketed. They are all scams.
Never install pirated or "cracked" software, software obtained from dubious websites, or other questionable sources.
Illegally obtained software is almost certain to contain malware.
"Questionable sources" include but are not limited to spontaneously appearing web pages or popups, download hosting sites such as C net dot com, Softonic dot com, Soft pedia dot com, Download dot com, Mac Update dot com, or any other site whose revenue is primarily derived from junk product advertisements.
If you need to install software that isn't available from the Mac App Store, obtain it only from legitimate sources authorized by the software's developer.
Don’t supply your password in response to a popup window requesting it, unless you know what it is and the reason your credentials are required.
Don’t open email attachments from email addresses that you do not recognize, or click links contained in an email:
Most of these are scams that direct you to fraudulent sites that attempt to convince you to disclose personal information.
Such "phishing" attempts are the 21st century equivalent of a social exploit that has existed since the dawn of civilization. Don’t fall for it.
Apple will never ask you to reveal personal information in an email. If you receive an unexpected email from Apple saying your account will be closed unless you take immediate action, just ignore it. If your iCloud, iTunes, or App Store account becomes disabled for valid reasons, you will know when you try to buy something or log in to this support site, and are unable to.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose:Go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone.
Don’t install Java unless you are certain that you need it:
Java, a non-Apple product, is a potential vector for malware. If you are required to use Java, be mindful of that possibility.
Java can be disabled in System Preferences.
Despite its name JavaScript is unrelated to Java. No malware can infect your Mac through JavaScript. It’s OK to leave it enabled.
The same precaution applies to Adobe Flash Player. Newly discovered Flash vulnerabilities appear almost weekly.
Beware spontaneous popups: Safari menu > Preferences > Security > check "Block popup windows".
Popup windows are useful and required for some websites, but unsolicited popups are commonly used to deceive people into installing unwanted software they would never intentionally install.
Popups themselves cannot infect your Mac, but many contain resource-hungry code that will slow down Internet browsing.
If you ever receive a popup window indicating that your Mac is infected with some ick or that you won some prize, it is 100% fraudulent. Ignore it.
The same goes for a spontaneously appearing dialog insisting that you upgrade your video player right this instant. Such popups are frequently associated with sites that promise to deliver "free" movies or other copyrighted content that is not normally "free".
The more insistent it is that you upgrade or install something, the more likely it is to be a scam. Close the window or tab and forget it.
Ignore hyperventilating popular media outlets that thrive by promoting fear and discord with entertainment products arrogantly presented as "news". Learn what real threats actually exist and how to arm yourself against them:
The most serious threat to your data security is phishing. Most of these attempts are pathetic and are easily recognized, but that hasn't stopped prominent public figures from recently succumbing to this age-old scam.
OS X viruses do not exist, but intentionally malicious or poorly written code, created by either nefarious or inept individuals, is nothing new.
Never install something without first knowing what it is, what it does, how it works, and how to get rid of it when you don’t want it any more.
If you elect to use "anti-virus" software, familiarize yourself with its limitations and potential to cause adverse effects, and apply the principle immediately preceding this one.
Most such utilities will only slow down and destabilize your Mac while they look for viruses that do not exist, conveying no benefit whatsoever - other than to make you "feel good" about security, when you should actually be exercising sound judgment, derived from accurate knowledge, based on verifiable facts.
Do install updates from Apple as they become available. No one knows more about Macs and how to protect them than the company that builds them.
Summary: Use common sense and caution when you use your Mac, just like you would in any social context. There is no product, utility, or magic talisman that can protect you from all the evils of mankind.

  • Flash Player 12.0.0.4 will not install to Safari & Firefox OSX 10.7.5

I have gone through the "clean install" process posted in this forum 3 times now in an attempt to get FP 12.0.0.4 to install to Safari. I have downloaded 12.0.0.4 and run the install process. It successfully installs to Chrome but each time, Safari and Firefox again end up with 12.0.0.38! Then if I go back to the check Flash Player page: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html
It will tell me 12.0.0.4 is the current verison that should be installed.
If I go to Mozilla's check plugins page https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/
It will tell me that 12.0.0.38 is installed for FF and is "up to date."
So, is 12.0.0.4 only for Chrome or what?

    Ok. Thanks Mike.
It would be nice if Adobe published the correct information then.
The Flash Player page specifically shows 12.0.0.4 for Safari, FireFox and Opera. http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
Correct info would have prevented a pointless waste of time. The other Flash Player test page also reports the wrong information when viewing via Safari and FF.

  • Getting Pop Up Ads on my Mac Book Pro All of a Sudden, Regardless of Which Browser I use (Chrome, Safari, FireFox)

I'm getting Pop Ads via Google Chrome / Safari / Firefox all of a sudden in the last 2 weeks. I use a Mac Book Pro OS X (10.6.4). I've never had pop up problems w/ Mac before, I've been using Mac for a few years.  I've also been using Google Chrome ever since it came out and haven't had any pop ups occur.  However, in the last 2 weeks, I'm getting pop ups all the time.  Sometimes when I click a link, it redirects me to a pop up first.  My settings on Chrome are still set to "Do not allow any site to show pop-ups."  However, they are still popping up.  How do I stop the pop ups?
    Updates:
Also, even if I don't click a link, I'm getting pop ups. 4/24/11
I've ran 2 different Anti-Virus programs (Sophos & MacScan) and done a full scan w/ both and it comes back as clean --> no virus / malware detected.  Also, seems like i'm also getting pop ups on Safari and FireFox as well.  Altho the frequency on those is less than Google Chrome.  Any other Mac user facing this issue? 11:21 AM

THIS PROBLEM IS SOLVED!!!  5 DAYS & COUNTING AND NO POP UP ISSUES!   I came across a blog (can't remember which one now) and realized maybe its not my Mac, maybe its the DNS (Wireless) that I'm connected to that is corrupt. I noted what my DNS address was by clicking on the Apple icon on the upper left hand corner of my laptop and then navigating to System Preferences > Network > Advance (button) > DNS (tab) on Mac. I don't know anything about how DNS stuff works, but I am in a location where there are several restaurants / coffee shops around me with free wi-fi. So, I went and connected to a different restaurant's free wifi. Then I went back and checked my DNS address and it had changed to something new. And under the new DNS address, I haven't had any redirects yet! I went back and tested all the links via Safari that I was previously getting redirected from (including this one) and no redirect issues! YAY!!! Since then, I've been using a wireless card device w/ a different DNS.  5 days later, I still haven't gotten any pop ups!!!  So, I guess the issue was w the DNS (wireless) that I was using, not with my laptop. Hope this helps anyone else that may get this issue, worked for me!

  • Problems with iweb and safari - 'buttons' not working in safari/firefox...

Hello. Help! I've been using iweb for a while with no probs - but on trying to launch my most recent site I'm finding the navigation buttons (graphic images not text buttons) work fine in iweb on my mac, plus fine on a PC but only partially in safari/firefox browsers... see sarahgreen.me and you will see that none of them work on the home page. Is this some kind of bug? I was wondering if it is anything to do with there being too many objects on the page or something? They are fine on a PC.
    Thanks for any ideas.
    Sarah

In iWeb do Command-Shift-L to see the layout of the page.
The content in the Navigation layer is blocking the content of the Header layer. The body layer is empty.
Move ( +Use Command-drag+ ) EVERYTHING in the Navigation layer and EVERYTHING in the Header layer INTO the Body layer.
    Put content where it belongs.

  • Thumbnail/preview images are not showing in Facebook (Safari/Firefox/Chrome)

    Hello
I've never had this problem before in a year of having a new MBP. The MBP completely ran out of juice for days to the point of the clock resetting (whether this is an issue I don't know), although the MBP works totally fine and is now on full juice.
However, I've noticed that when using Facebook (which is important for my work / digital marketing), I can't see any preview thumbnails/images, which is really annoying, as when posting official work stuff I can't see if they are being displayed properly.
Screenshot of the problem- you will see a white question mark in a blue box where the image/preview thumb should be.
I've reset safari/firefox/chrome completely and deleted ALL history/cache etc etc and udated to all latest versions. All the usual troubleshooting stuff, but it's still happening!??
    Can anyone help with this???
    Thanks!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select “Help” from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
As Guest, launch the application(s) and test. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.

  • Project created in Flash CS3 & Flash CS5 crashes both Safari & Firefox

I have a user with a brand new image including Snow Leopard 10.6.6 and the Adobe CS5.  When creating a project in Flash CS5 and then trying to view it in Safari & Firefox the plug-in crashes which then brings down the browser with it.  I went and installed Flash CS3 (as this is what he is used to using) and the problem still persists.

  • Facebook images, profile photos, cover photos are not loading. Only small blue square with question mark. Same thing in Safari, FireFox, Chrome.

Since July on MacBook Pro facebook images, profile photos, cover photos are not loading. Only small blue square with question mark. Same thing in Safari, FireFox, Chrome. Everything is up to date including last version of Adobe Flash. And watching YouTube also a problem. Video is skipping, freezing for few seconds and jumps forward. At the same time on Toshiba with Windows Vista under the same account, same wi-fi connection everything works fine.
Please help with sugesstions to fix the issue.

Seems like problem is solved but it might be temporarily. Anyway. Click on the image, it will open facebook photo browser. Image is not loading so right click on the blue box with question mark, save image as. It will start downloading but without any success since browser do not see the image. After this attempt refresh the page and close all tabs with facebook. Try to open facebook once again. For some reason after this weird actions all images displayed properly. Do not know for how long but now it works.

  • Use stored login information from Safari/Firefox etc in Flash Player standalone? (Mac)

I play a flash game called FFR (Flash Flash Revolution). It uses a login system to keep track of scores and ranks from the songs I play. On my late model eMac It's very laggy in-browser, even on low quality. I downloaded the Flash Player 9 stand alone and it runs smooth, however it doesn't use my stored login information from Safari/Firefox (or IE5 for that matter) Like Windows does. Is there any way to fix this?

  • Safari, FireFox and Chrome are not loading webpages in OS X Lion

I have been unable to load certain webpages in any of my web browers that I have installed. This includes Safari, FireFox and Chrome. While I am able to load sites such as ESPN.com without any issue, I cannot connect to Facebook.com or CNET.com. I have tried clearing by browser history and cache, turning off and on my wifi and restarting my computer. Any ideas of what the issue is and whether there is a relatively simple fix that does not require waiting for an updated software release from Apple?

    Reset Safari more often.
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari
Select:   Clear History  (also empties the cache)
Deselect the remaining boxes then click Reset.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

  • No sound in Safari & Firefox

The sound in Safari & Firefox has stopped working. I usually watch streaming video and it stopped working this morning. Worked yesterday.... Oddly, it does work at the Apple website. I do have sound in iTunes. I've tried turning sound on and off at the videos. The sound is turned all the way up on my mac and on the videos and I've tried changing the levels. I've deleted the com.apple.quicktime.preferences.plist per one suggestion I found. I restarted the mac. I tried to remove Safari from the applications folder to desktop and download a new version, but I'm using 2.0.4 and the copy on the apple site was 1.x and wouldn't play. I deleted the Safari icons folder then changed the new one to Read Only per another suggestion. Safari does open faster now, but that's it, still no sound when not at the Apple site. Internet connection otherwise works fine. I thought the problem might be Quicktime, and it turns out that links that go through the Quicktime 7.1.3 player work inconsistently. Any other ideas?
