Safari Flash and Silverlight problem.

I have two large problems on safari.
1. Flash: Whenever I play flash, the CPU jumps up to 100+, and then it doesn't come down until I close down the video.
I have everything updated, and this didn't occur when I first got my macbook. Does anyone have a fix for this?
2. Silverlight: I installed silverlight, but silverlight videos don't recognize them on any of my browsers. However, on "Help ----> Installed Plugins", it does show the silverlight plugin installed, but the videos just don't load. I've already uninstalled and then reinstalled, and tried Silverlight 2 Beta 2, and Silverlight 1, but neither of them work. Please help!

These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, 3.1, 3.1.2, QT 7.3, 7.4.x and 7.5 and OS 10.4.11, and should also work with 10.5.4.
Download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
RealPlayer 11 (which is no longer in beta) for Mac from:
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/15540
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs.
The latest version of Adobe FlashPlayer can be obtained from here:
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.
Note that Adobe requires you to uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first.
Some users have mentioned that the latest Flash Player versions (v.9.0.115.0 and 9.0.124.0) in some cases conflict with Leopard 10.5.4, and that they have needed to revert to v. 9.0.47. This can be downloaded from here:
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14266&sliceId=1
You should also ensure that you have downloaded and installed all the correct versions for your Mac of Security Updates up to and including 2008-005. (N.B. Security Updates require both a restart and a permission repair.)
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.
There is an additional 'fix' you could try if you are having problems with Flash and Quicktime, depending on which type of Mac you have:
On Intel Macs, make sure that you are not running Safari in Rosetta. You can check this, and change it, in the Get Info window.
On PPC Macs, go to the Hard Disk/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, and drag the file 'QuickTime Plugin.webplugin' to the desktop. Quit and restart Safari. If things have improved you can trash that file. If they haven't put it back, as the lack of this plug-in can cause QT content in some widgets to cease functioning.
And now there is an additional kid on the block: SilverLight. Microsoft has created their own version of what a replacement for Flash should be. You can read more about it here:
http://silverlight.net/
So, if you go to any sites that have been designed for this new Silverlight stuff, you can download the plug-in from here (but make certain that you are downloading SilverLight v.1.0 for OS X (10.4.8 upwards):
http://silverlight.net/GetStarted/
Recommendation: Close all applications before installing any of the above, repair permissions, reboot, and repair permissions again.

  • Safari - Flash and Silverlight Plug-ins NOT working

Safari does not seem to recognize my Flash and Silverlight Plug-ins so that I can watch and stream videos. I might have messed it up, but I can not fix it. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

There's no Auval or RA or Garritan Personal Orchestra in the Audio Units Manager in Logic Pro. Though Stylus RMX that I also use and Kontakt Player 2 are there and successfully validated. The RA and Kontakt Player component are exactly in the place you said they would be.
I've since discovered that RA does not in fact work in Logic Express. As for whether it's loading up in Rosetta or PPC version - how do I tell that?
I really appreciate your help but I'm still stuck at square 1. Any more suggestions?!!

  • Why am I getting a "QT PLAYER" logo on media files I used to be able to play with Flash and Silverlight?

When I try to download a video file I am getting a "QT PLAYER" logo and it wont allow me to open in Quicktime mor any other media player. Why is this happening? I think it happened after I tried to download plug-ins for Elmedia player? thanks

I dont need you to respond but I found out the answer and I thought I might share it so that if anyone else has the same problem you will know the answer. This what I did before the problem started:
    1. I am running MAC OSX 10.8.2 (Mountain Lion)
    2. I down/loaded (d/l)  ADOBE FLASH player
    3. I d/l Adobe AIR SKX including SHOCKWAVE (thought that MORE is better!)
    4. Saw that SAFARI had some NEW EXTENSIONS so D/L a few including:
        -Adware Blocker
        -Facebook Ad blocker
       - Facebook page cleanup
       - "CLICK-TO- FLASH blocker (this is the culprit!)
"ClickToFlash prevents the Flash plug-in from running. It replaces any Flash element on a webpage with a placeholder; simply click the placeholder to load the Flash content. ClickToFlash also lets you replace Flash videos from select websites (such as YouTube) with H.264 video. Other optional features include advanced whitelisting". Quote from Safari extensions page.
and a few other unimportant ones in my opinion.
    REMEDY:
    1. I checked everything about SILVERLIGHT as was suggested and UNINSTALLED SILVERLIGHT.
WENT TO UTILITIES IN APPLICATIONS AND IN SPOTLIGHT WROTE "SILVERLIGHT" and then "MOVED TO TRASH" anything to do with
        Silverlight
    2. did the same for ADOBE FLASHPLAYER and Went to UTILITIES and removed anything to do with Adobe, including the LOCKED ADOBE FILES
        AIR, SHOCKWAVE, AND A PLUG-IN CALLED "DIRECTOR.SHOCKWAVE"
    3. THEN UNINSTALLED ALL THE SAFARI EXTENSIONS - especially the "CLICK To FLASH extension.
    4. Went to  SAFARI PREFERENCES, and under the SECURITY TAB made sure "enable plug-ins" was checked.
    THEN:
    1. RE-INSTALL SILVERLIGHT
    RESTART
    2.RE-INSTALL ADOBE FLASH PLAYER (LATEST) 11.2.502.146 here;
      http://get2.adobe.com/flashplayer/
    RE-START
AND THIS SOLVED THE PROBLEM. NOW WORKING PERFECTLY
    MANY THANKS

  • ADOBE FLASH and Silverlight

accidentally deleted adobe flash player and silverlight plug in. Netflix and videos on Facebook will no longer load. I reinstalled both but it's like nothing happened neither one work. what's the issue?

If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 8. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
You might have to log out or restart the computer before a Flash update takes effect.
    Step 2
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data...
and confirm. Close the window. Then select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.
    Step 3
If you're only having trouble with YouTube videos, log in to YouTube and load this page. You may see a link with the text "Leave the HTML5 Trial." If so, click that link.
    Step 4
If you get a warning of a "blocked" or "outdated" plug-in, then from the menu bar select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Check Now. Quit and relaunch the browser.
If the warning persists, triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Inside it, there should be a file named "XProtect.meta.plist". If that file is missing and you know why it's missing, restore it from a backup or copy it from another Mac running the same version of OS X. Otherwise, reinstall OS X.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
In the Safari preferences window, select the Advanced tab and uncheck the box marked
    Stop plug-ins to save power
    Step 6
Open this folder as in Step 4:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
    Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
    Step 7
Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from the domain "get.adobe.com". Don't click a link from any other website, including this one, because you can't trust links. They may be an attempt to trick you into installing malware masquerading as Flash. Type the address into the browser window. Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    Step 8
If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked
    Allow (or Enable) plug-ins
    Then click the button marked
    Manage Website Settings...
if present and make sure that the website is not blocked for Flash.
    Step 9
    Select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.

  • Flash and Silverlight freezing randomly

I have been facing this problem ever since I upgraded to Firefox 7. There doesn't seem to be a pattern as to when it happens, but periodically, when a new instance of Adobe Flash or Silverlight are started, they crash. For example, every 3-5 times watching something on Youtube, watching something on Netflix, or even just the annoying flash ads in Yahoo mail. When this happens, sometimes it grays out the control and offers to send a crash report (which I do almost every time), and sometimes I have to manually kill firefox via task manager. Also, when starting a Netflix movie, it might load a little bit (status bar isn't at any particular location, could be anywhere between 0-100%) but then halts. In any of these occasions, Firefox completely freezes. I do in fact have Flash and everything up to date. Problem has been around for months now and it keeps getting more and more annoying.
I am more than familiar with computers, developer in fact. I do also have Visual Studio 2010 installed, in case that might contribute to the problem.

Silverlight is not required in Firefox. However Flash works on Mozilla Firefox. Update your Firefox Plug-ins by going here
    https://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/
Update the Plug-ins infront of whom "Update" button is active. Check and tell if its working.

  • Safari, flash and windowserver

    Hi guys!
I have next problem: when I visit a page with many flash's objects (for example: http://vntutor.blogspot.com/2007/08/10-gimp-video-lessons-online.html) and, for example, trying to watch Apple's ads on their site, Safari just gone down. But it is not problem - I know that flash like to eat many cpu time on Unix systems :") , problem is after that, when I quit from Safari, all my system is down and everything is very slow. In Activity monitor I see that process "windowserver" eat my cpu. When I restart this process everything is seems to be ok. I've tested it with Safari 2 and 3.03beta - and have got the same results. Firefox works slow but fine.
I have the PowerBook G4 12" 1,5GHz 1,25Gb memory, Mac OS X 10.4.10, latest Shockwave Flash 9.0 r47, Safari 3.03 Beta, permission repaired. If you need any logs - just tell, but I didn't see any crashreports from safari or windowserver.
Sorry for my english and thanks for answers :")

  • Live video stream to both Flash and iOS problem

Hi everyone, I'm Lucas. I Have learnt how to deliver a single live video stream to both Flash and iOS from this video
But after that I got a problem with the ".f4m" file and ".m3u8" file (I think)  like this video below here. I don't know what happen with the server because my camera is still working perfectly.
I now using Flash Media Server 4.5
Does anyone know how to fix it?

    Try this :
    1: stop any stream.
2: go to  root_install\applications\livepkgr\events\_definst_\liveevent and delete any .stream file that is in there
3: Go to   root_install\applications\livepkgr\streams\_definst_ any livestream folder that is in there for example if you streamed with name livestream12 there should be a folder with the name livestream12, delete it.
4: Then try streaming a single bitrate stream by adding to the FMLE the following parameters
    FMS Url :  rtmp://localhost/livepkgr
    Stream: livestream?adbe-live-event=liveevent
5: go to sample player and add this url to the field : http://localhost/hds-live/livepkgr/_definst_/liveevent/livestream.f4m
*If you have a public IP do the following :
    1: go to http://www.osmf.org/configurator/fmp/#
and add this url  : http://public_ip/hds-live/livepkgr/_definst_/liveevent/livestream.f4m (replace localhost with your public IP)
and from the advanced tab say that it is live.
    Give it a try!

  • Flash and silverlight causing high temps on macbook air

    Hello all,
I've had my macbook air for just over 2 weeks and I've noticed that when I play flash videos on youtube and silverlight videos via netflix my fan starts going crazy after a while. I can do other intensive tasks without the fan having to spin up.
    Any suggestions?

Your computer is doing what it is supposed to do. There are few applications that are as CPU intensive as Flash - this is why Jobs didn't want it on the iPad or iPhone. Flash makes the computer work hard, the computer gets hot, and the fans start up.

  • Flash and Silverlight suddenly not working?!

    Hi,
This evening I went to check the football on skygo. Where the stream would usually load, I was presented with this...
Silverlight on grey background and no video.
I then went to the BBC website and clicked on the football latest and it showed me this...
Flash on grey background and no video
I 'right clicked' the main video window and it gave me the option to 'restore flash'. I clicked this and was then confronted with this...
HTML5 text across video window. I could still click play and it refreshed itself and then played normally, but upon re-entering the page the same happened again.
Does anyone know why I am suddenly having problems with various video formats? I've done nothing different to normal whatsoever and although flash seems to be working (albeit a bit strangely), silverlight it not, so nogo-skygo!
I'm hoping this will be riculously obvious to someone and they will call me an idiot and tell me what needs installing/uninstalling/reinstalling/molesting/fingering to get me back to the smooth operation i've enjoyed for the last 5 years.
    I'm running:
    Macbook Pro
    Mountain lion 10.8.4
    Gracias amigos...

    Try this for Flash ...
Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Advanced tab.
Click Delete All under Browsing Data and Settings
Back to Safari. Press Command + Option + E to empty the Safari cache.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that didn't help, please post a link in your Reply.

  • Safari & Flash 8 - Big Problems !!!!

I'm having some problems with FLASH 8 and OS X 10.4.5 (I have an iMac 15'' 1.6 Ghz PowerPC)... I tried the "intel" solution "andyBall_uk" posted, but i'm not having good results...
In every flash web page i tried to load, a message appears saying that "The page “(page name)” attempted to load an Internet plug-in named “Shockwave Flash”, but the plug-in failed to load successfully."
Please andyBall_uk or anybody, HELP !!! Thanks a Lot !!

when did it stop working normally ???
Facundo - Did this coincide with any software update, system change or new software/plug-ins?. You've repaired permissions via disk-utility after any such changes?
    also do this -
Quit safari, re-open it & go to a Flash type site, then use the console app to view the system & console logs. Does it show any flash plugin problems?
There was a similar issue recently, cured by rolling back QT 7.04 to 7.02 then 3 - a known issue of incompatibility between QT components & a number of 3rdp software apps.
the thread is here It's a shot in the dark as to whether or not this is anything to do with your problem - so if no errors in the logs- maybe hold off on rolling back QT. You might skim through the whole thread in case anything else applies.
To possibly get you working - and provide a useful pointer.... set up a new user in System preferences-Accounts. Log in as this user & see if the problem is still there.

  • Safari 8 and Youtube problems

Hello there. I'm a new Mac user (iMac 21,5" 2,7 GHz quad-core with Yosemite) and I just noticed this problem with Safari and Youtube videos. Sometimes, not always, HTML5 videos stutter at the very beginning (less than 1 second from the start), and the buffer bar comes back to zero, causing a little pause. After this, the video runs smoothly without any other stuttering. It doesn't happen on Chrome or Firefox. I tried to clear the cache, uninstall Flash (flash videos are not affected...), but nothing changed. It isn't a connection problem, cause, as I said, everything runs fine on other browsers. Any idea? Thanks a lot!

    1. System Preferences >  Flash Player > Advanced >  Delete  All
         Press the "Delete All" button.
    2. Safari > Preferences > Privacy
Press the button “ Remove All Website Data”.

  • Safari, Flash and MIME

Up until a few days ago, I was able to view media content without any problem. For some silly reason, I decided to download the Flash Media player thinking that I needed it. Upon downloading it, I was then unable to view certain media content which I was previously able to view. Thinking that there must have been an error during the downloading process, I returned to the Flash Media Centre website to try downloading the Flash program again. The dmg file downloaded to my desktop, I opened it, and the installation icon appeared. I initiated the install by either double clicking (from instructions) or dragging onto the Apps folder icon, and Flash downloaded apparently without any problems. Then, right after installation was complete, Safari automatically rediverts me to the Flash homepage and then a Safari drop-down box appears in the window with the message:
The page ”Macromedia – Flash Player” has content of MIME type “application/x-shockwave-flash”, but you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type. A plug-in should be available on this page: https://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer
So what do I do? I check in my apps to see whether Flash was installed and I discover that it is not. So I go back to the Flash download page and reinitiate the process, and every time, the drop down box appears with the message about MIME. I must have done this about 10 times and with no success. Flash just will not install. The real question is: why was I able to view Flash files previously without any problem and now, after having tried downloading flash i get the message about MIME? Obviously I had the capability of viewing Flash files but I can say with great certainty that I never had Flash Player before on my computer. I am left to presume, that some other media program was playing Flash files for me in place of Flash? Any suggestions?

You're welcome. Glad I could help. "Busting the brain" is never an easy experience.
Consider rewarding a "helpful" to the other poster, as I found their suggestions useful ones leading to the solution.
Thanks for the and Aloha from Big Island.

  • Flash and Silverlight don't work at all in Beta 34.0, when Internet Explorer properly works with these; happened immediately with update to Beta 34.0.

    Hello!
Immediately upon updating to Beta 34.0, Silverlight and Flash, completely stopped working in Firefox. I am running Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 2.
They work fine in Internet Explorer.
This happens in any website I go to.
For example, I can go to Youtube, and the page will show a black box where the video should be, but there are no play controls, or any way to enable the video. Clicking within the black box does nothing.
On the music play site, Grooveshark, the site does not recognize Flash as being installed at all. (If you don't have Flash installed, this site pops up a message every time. Grooveshark correctly recognizes that Internet Explorer has Flash installed.)
I updated the Flash plugin to the current version, which also did nothing.
I have not reinstalled Firefox, or done a System Restore, yet.
I just bought a new computer that I was going to migrate to, and retire this computer, so I was not going to do heroic efforts to fix this. I was reporting this more on the order of a bug report.
    Thanks.
    Karl

This happened to me as well with Windows 7 32 bit (which I did as as upgrade from Vista Home Premium - if that might foul things up a bit) and affects Firefox 34.1 and IE. I did a system restore which took me back to Firefox 33 and Flash was fine. Later in the day Firefox updated back to 34.1 and I lost Flash again.
