Safari font looks scrambled, Want a fix

The font on Safari (especially if is bold) looks scrambled. From Google if I search for example safari the font on the results page looks scrambled. I don't know how to post a screen shot on this page. If I knew it how, I would.
MacOS 1.5.6.
Bought my macbook last october.
It was working well till a week ago.
Safari version 3.2.1

Have you added any new fonts? If so, then remove them.

  • On Google Chrome the Adobe edge web font looks fuzzy and broken-up. Is there a way to fix this?

I have created a website with Adobe Muse and I am using an adobe edge web font that looks great on all browsers except for google Chrome... On chrome the font looks fuzzy and broken-up. Is there a way to fix this??? Thanks.

    Thank you Sanjit,
I have redone the site using using the font TREBUCHET. The font that I was using that was giving me the problem was EXO which is an Adobe Edge Web font. I'd rather use EXO... Here is a screen shot of a sample page, areas where the type looks especially messed up are circled in red.
This only happens when opened in Google Chrome on a Windows PC. However it looks fine with Chrome on my MAC.

  • Fonts look fater on Safari than in iWeb

When I create a page in iWeb the fonts look always fater once published on .Mac and wiewed with Safari. I always use regular web fonts (Helvetica, Verdana).
When surfing to the page using Internet Explorer on Windows, the fonts do not look too fat. It's just in safari.

i then suggest you make them as image by adding a small shadow to your text. this will make them be 1 to 1 on iWeb and online. see this image:
    http://karreth.com/iweb/Text%20Displayed%20Incorrectly_files/boldness.jpg
click the little ---->>>>> T <<<<<------ to drop a shadow
here are some articles about text being displayed incorrectly:

  • All fonts look awful

New Mac Mini. Mac OS X Leopardo di Snowio latest update.
    Using 1080p, on a 1080p monitor.
    *All fonts look awful*
System font (top bar, finder, everywhere) Safari as well. Everything.
    Fonts look pixelated.
Didn't do any font change myself (removed nothing).
Is it due to the install of Final cut xpress / Aperture ?
Could it be the install of a Brother Laser printer?
    Thanks for your help.
NB All graphics at the bottom / everywhere look perfect. Only fonts is the problem.

I think your font smoothing may be messed up a bit. That happened to some people when when upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard. From the picture you posted, it appears the fonts are a bit more jagged than they should be. Here are the instructions I copied from another Mac Web site a long time ago. They aren't mine but I have used them successfully.
If you’ve got an LCD panel that you think looks worse than it did before upgrading to 10.6, you can try this fix to see if it makes things better. How? Just open Terminal (in Applications -> Utilities) and paste this command, then press Return:
defaults -currentHost write -globalDomain AppleFontSmoothing -int 2
The 2 at the end is equivalent to the old “Medium - Best for flat panel” setting in 10.5. You can also use 1 for light smoothing, and 3 for strong smoothing. This change will only affect newly-opened applications—anything already running will have to be restarted to see the affect of the changes. As such, you may want to experiment with a document in Text Edit, trying the three alternatives, and then after you find the one you like best, rebooting your Mac (so that it will take effect system wide).
Note that if you go back into the Appearance panel and toggle the font smoothing setting, you will override your manually-set value—so don’t do that if you value your newly-smoothed fonts.

  • Yosemite Safari Font Issue

    Hi!
I just updated to Yosemite and my Safari fonts have been replaced by what appears to be Arial Bold Italics.
Everything looks Bold and Italics, even when I am typing this message.
Can someone help me with this font issue?
    Thanks.

I'm having this issue too. It starts this way and next I will see all the fonts corrupt or change to a bold arial font. I'm totally sick of this. Restarting in safe mode, repair permissions, remove caches and preferences and when that doesn't work, reset Safari. Apple needs to fix this ASAP.
I'm not buying a new mac till they do!

  • Question - Y do my fonts look slightly different when publish site to .mac?

I've created a website on iWeb but when i publish it and view it in safari the fonts look slightly different. It's hard to explain but they basically just look worse. Can anyone let me know why this might be and how i could fix this problem. Thanks in advance.

Quit iWeb, go to Home Folder/Library/Preferences and delete the file com.apple.iWeb.plist.
Restart your Mac, launch iWeb and republish.
You should really convert any text done in "copperplate" to an image. Otherwise it will be converted to an (ugly) alternative on any computer that doesn't have this font installed.

  • Safari is looking for adobe reader which is uninstalled. Help!

I installed adobe reader and for some obscure reason I made adobe the default pdf viewer. I've fixed it so that downloaded pdf files now open in preview (which I much prefer) but any pdfs on the web has safari trying to start adobe reader which I have removed from my HDD-
Please help me stop this from happening. It is driving me up a tree. I don't want adobe reader.
    Cheers and thanks

Ok, so that stopped safari from looking for adobe but pdfs still won't work.
Uh, wait. Helps if I shut down safari and start it up again. Works just fine. Thanks a million!

  • I messed up my Safari font. Any way to reset?

So I was trying to play with my fonts on Safari, after realising that the Appearance panel had disappeared.
Searching online, I found this script to edit the font:
    #!/bin/bash
    if [[ $(ps -ax | grep -i safari | grep -v grep | wc -l) -ge 1 ]] ; then osascript -e "tell application \"Safari\" to quit";  fi
    defaults write com.apple.Safari com.apple.Safari.ContentPageGroupIdentifier.WebKit2StandardFontFamily '%filltext:name=font-face:default=Lucida Grande%'
    defaults write com.apple.Safari com.apple.Safari.ContentPageGroupIdentifier.WebKit2DefaultFontSize %filltext:name=default-font-size:default=14%
    defaults write com.apple.Safari com.apple.Safari.ContentPageGroupIdentifier.WebKit2FixedFontFamily '%filltext:name=fixed-font-face:default=Consolas%'
    defaults write com.apple.Safari com.apple.Safari.ContentPageGroupIdentifier.WebKit2DefaultFixedFontSize %filltext:name=fixed-font-size:default=11%
osascript -e "tell application \"Safari\" to activate"
Entering it on Terminal caused Safari to quit, and when I restarted it, the script had worked, but the font was way to small.
I have tried resetting Safari but it hasn't worked.
I highly prefer Safari over Chrome and want to use it again, but the fonts are now too small. Please help

you can remove most all changes to Safari's default preferences by trashing this file :
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
you should be able to triple-click the line above to select it, then ctrl-click & choose Services - Reveal
a Finder window should open with the file selected. Quit Safari, trash the file. This will reset any changes you made in Safari preferences & also those for some extensions.
Safari - Preferences - Advanced has a setting for 'never use font sizes smaller than...' which may help. The size can be selected & entered manually for 15/16 which aren't in the drop-down

  • I don't want to fix, tweak, adjust, or God forbid, REINSTALL anything.

I bought Adobe Premier Elements 7 with a new Dell XPS Studio with MS Vista, 12 GB RAM, 1 TB of disk space, and 1GB of video RAM. It came pre-installed. PE7 barely runs. Most times, I do not get to the "Share" phase because PE7 says there is an unexpected error and shuts down. I even get MS Visual Studio C++ Runtime errors. The dialog says MS is looking for a "solution", but it never responds that one was found. Other times, the Open Project fails, so that I cannot even open a saved project. Very frustrating. Normal (i.e. non-esoteric) program usage like adding scene transitions, or merely clicking on the scene scroll bar also causes the program to crash, but even that is not the worst. The worst comes after three hours of video crunching, the disk write fails causing all that time to be lost.
Even with my powerful PC, I've taken all the normal precautions-- I run nothing else concurrently, only on a fresh startup or re-boot etc., but none of this seems to have any effect.
I cannot imagine how or why a company like Adobe would release a program like this that is so not ready for prime time.
UPDATE: After hours of re-doing yet another project, the program failed while processing the video during pre-burn processing. After walking away from the computer, I returned to find it re-booted and now although Premier Elements itself will start, that project will no longer load, causing a fatal error that causes the program to close. I've once again lost hours.
Frankly, I'm not in the mood for yet another lame "fix."  The program (pre-installed by Dell) does not work on a brand new, top-of-the-line Dell. I don't want to fix, tweak, adjust, or God forbid, REINSTALL anything. How can I get my money back?

Venting and a loud rant is good for the body, the mind, and the soul.
    We've all been there.
After all the rants, the sad part is that nothing has changed to enhance your video editing experience.
That being said, it might be something as simple as the source of your video assets, Project Presets, or exceeding the limitations of the application.
If you decide to post some additional details, you may be pleasantly surprised at the help available on this Forum to get you to the primised land...

  • After installing MS Office 2011, Safari fonts are displaying incorrectly

I'm running OS X v. 10.6.4 on an Intel iMac.
This morning, I installed Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac, and when I went to my safari browser and googled something, my fonts look like the image below:
Even as I'm typing this now, this font is showing the same way! I did a thorough uninstall of MS Office, emptied my font cache, browser cache, reset safari, logged out + in, restarted my comp 100 times, and I'm at a loss.
Is it possible my arial font was corrupted somehow? I know Office installs its own evil fonts, which I'm pretty sure I have now deleted. How would I get a new, working version of the default Arial font and reinstall it?

Office 2011 installs a bunch of fonts that conflict with those installed by OS X. Read section 3 of Font Management in OS X to see which to remove, and which to keep.

  • When opening a pdf document in Adobe Reader the font of the original document is changed....It becomes a mix of the original font and a new different font. How can i fix this

When opening a pdf document in Adobe Reader the font of the original document is changed....It becomes a mix of the original font and a new different font. How can i fix this

This issue occurs with most of the PDFs that I open up. I am using the latest version of adobe reader on my windows based machine and it is a general PDF. I saw a similar post online stating that if you look at the fonts used in the document and it doesn't say (Embedded) next to it, then Adobe Reader will try to pull the font(s) from your computer and if it doesn't find that font then it will replace it which makes it look funny.

  • Exporting PDF format for web viewing, fonts look bad

Hey everybody I'm relatively new to indesign so sorry if this is a simple one. I'm doing a newsletter in indesign, which will be used stricktly for web viewing. Whenever I export the file as a pdf the body text fonts look a bit off, as though they are slightly pixelated around the edges. This is not as noticable in the artcile titles with larger font, but any smaller font (i'm using size 14, and futura book) and it gets this pixelation, it is even more noticeable in the thinner type sets of the font. Another odd thing is the first page of the newsletter the fonts are more messed up looking than the following pages where the same font types and sizes are used, the only major difference is the first page has a photo on it, but the fonts that look weird are below the photo not overlaying it or anything like that. I turned off all the compression on the pdf export, also tried it will varying amounts of compression but still have the same issue. And I am viewing this in Mac's Preview program, not acrobat.

Ok, just checked through all the flattening preview highlights and everything looked fine in that. Since my exported document looked perfectly fine in acrobat, but sort of pixelated in mac's preview, is there any way around that?
If you are serving the PDF via a web address it will very likely be viewed in a browser (not downloaded and opened in an app like Preview or Reader). All of the browser displays have slightly different anti-aliasing, which you can see if you zoom in on a screen capture of the text. Here's a line of text from your PDF at 100%, magnified to 400% in Photoshop. From top to bottom Safari, Chrome, Firefox:
There's nothing you can do about the anti-aliasing quality of the different browsers and apps. The PDF you posted has live transparency, so it isn't a flattening issue.

  • I created a brochure in pages and exported it to a pdf format. The pdf looks and opens perfectly using preview but when opened in adobe reader (which my printer uses), fonts look odd, transparencies don't display...etc. Tells me error exists on page?

I created a brochure in pages and exported it to a pdf format. The pdf looks and opens perfectly using preview but when opened in adobe reader (which my printer uses), fonts look odd, transparencies don't display...etc. Tells me error exists on page?

Does this essentially mean there is no way to fix this problem on my end? It's a pity because the design and branding of my brochure will suffer if I remove transparencies and use different fonts. It also concerns me moving forward because it means the quality of print on my pieces will be significantly lower because most commercial printers use Adobe products.

  • Monaco Font Looks Too Wide To Display on Konsole

I use Monaco as the default font of konsole. The bold format of Monaco font looks too wide to display a complete letter.
As shown in the picture, the last character of the file name disappears.
I also disselect the Draw intense colors in bold font checkbox in the konsole profile. It does not work. How could I fix that problem?
