Safari fonts not as clear as Firefox on Windows

I've been using my Aluminum 15" powerbook for about a year. I keep getting annoyed that my 2 year older Compaq Windows laptop is clearer when viewing web pages in Firefox but in Safari the same web pages are not as clear. Take dpreview, the camera website. On Windows Firefox all the writing is very clear. On my powerbook using Safari everything seems to be in Bold.
Is their anyway I can fix this so I can have my Safari using same Fonts as Windows perhaps? Is the Powerbook display not good?

This is a feature of Tiger of think. Font weight is much heavier than previous versions of OSX. The dpreview site has a background colour which unfortunately when combined with OSX font weight causes font edges to blur.

  • Safari could not download the file "Firefox 20.0.dmg" because there is not enough free disk space.

    What does this error message mean. I have pleanty of free disk space - Safari could not download the file “Firefox 20.0.dmg” because there is not enough free disk space.

    That misleading error message can be the result of moving a download while it's in progress. Right-click the download package and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. The file you downloaded may be in the folder that opens.

  • Website suddenly not appearing correctly in Firefox under Windows 7

    I've had a website running for a couple of years now with no problems, but one of my clients sent me an email saying it's not appearing correctly on her system, Windows 7 runnning Firefox v. 15. I am on a MAC and have looked at the site on 4 different browsers and it looks fine, I also installed Firefox (v. 16) on a PC running Windows 7 and it looks fine there. Near as I recall I haven't made any changes to the site's structure, so I'm stumped. The website is http://www.horizonwings.org. Can anyone help? I've attached a couple of screen captures showing what she sees. Thank you.

    I see the same problem as your client in Firefox 16 on Windows 7. To fix the problem, add clear: left to the style for leftColMain
    #leftColMain {
        clear: left;     float: left;
        padding: 30px 0 0;
        position: relative;
        width: 210px;

  • PDF in Safari: Fonts not displaying correctly: Has this bug been fixed?

    Last year I was trying to view a PDF on the iPad with Safari, and there was a font corruption problem: On zooming in, the type would become garbled. Now granted, I was using a non-standard font (Univers Type 1). I also noticed this problem with certain magazines in the MagCloud app. I decided to work around the problem by converting my type to outlines; while this worked, it made the PDFs much larger in file size.
    I checked this bug again under iOS 4.3 and could not replicate it. I've found anecdotal evidence out there that as of iOS 4.2.1 this may have been fixed, but I can't find confirmation. Any help in this regard is much appreciated. I need to present my project managers with discrete evidence that this bug has been fixed before they'll allow me to go ahead with "live" type -- and as we all know, the plural of anecdote is not data. Thanks.

    Apologies, I should also make clear another key point...where it's blowing out (multiple places), I'm using apex_item within the SQL to render the form. So that's where the problem lies

  • Crystal report not showing correctly in firefox after windows update

    From the past six months, crystal reports has been displayed without the print toolbar and the formatting is completely lost in firefox. Previously we found that when we uninstall the windows updates KB2836942, KB2836943, KB2836946, KB2836947, the problem is resolved. But with more and more windows updates that are automatically updated on the servers, it is getting practically impossible to track which windows update creates the problem. There is absolutely no issue in Chrome, IE and Opera; it is only with firefox that this problem occurs; so we feel it is more of a firefox issue than a windows update problem. It is not just in one machine, but we found the same issue at all our customer's servers (more than 10). The servers are a mix of windows 2008, windows 2012 with iis 7. We also observed the same problem on windows 7 machines. We have been recommending firefox as the best browser for our software to all our customers, and with this problem cropping up, we are badly handicapped. Kindly let us know how to sort this issue. We have provided the link below for your perusal. When you open it in chrome it works fine, but on firefox it does not display correctly:
    http://54.209.141.3/Reports/Report.aspx?reportname=RptProductWiseSalesDetails.rpt&paramlist=@FromDat,01/01/2011;@ToDat,01/26/2014;@BranchSlno,1;@FranchiseSlno,1;@FirstCol,B;@DateType,B;@SaleChannel,A;@ProductTypeSlno,0;@ProductSlno,6;@ColorSlno,0;@FinancierSlno,0;@ChannelTypeSlno,0;@ChannelSlno,0;@SalesPersonSlno,0;@SaleStatus,L;@BillingType,A;@LoginUser,admin;@LoginBranch,Keerthi%20Triumph%20Bangalore;@Franchise,Triumph;@AddCustomerDetail,0;@SaleCodeSuffix,&loadfromsql=0

    Those four updates all relate to the .Net framework, and involve how an ASP.Net application recognizes different browsers.

    I think the downside of turning off the changes is that IE 11 will not be well supported.
    That's all I know so far...

  • Page does not render correctly in Firefox on Windows.

    '''Edit: I didn't scroll down far enough the first time, I see it now.'''
    Looks fine for me, but I have disabled some settings that can interact badly with certain graphics cards.
    Could you try turning off a few Firefox settings. I'm not sure whether you need all of these, but no single one seems to solve the issue for everyone.
    You usually need to restart Firefox in order for these changes to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Advanced
    On the "General" mini-tab, Browsing section, uncheck the first 3 boxes:
    # Use autoscrolling
    # Use smooth scrolling
    # Use hardware acceleration when available
    If you OK that and restart Firefox, is the issue resolved?
    Note that if some of the content getting chopped or striped is Flash video, there may be other issues.

  • Forwarded to godaddy domain. works on safari but not explorer or firefox

    I finally figured how to use my website so that when you type in the domain it redirects to the mobile me website. However, it is working just great on safari but not on explorer or firefox.

    I have always used GoDaddy's forward and masking utilities and its worked great. When Apple updated iWeb to 08 with the ability to auto forward, I had lots of issues and thus went back to setting up my GoDaddy preferences to auto-forward and mask my site. GoDaddy has the very best phone support on the planet which makes up for one of the worst websites on the internet. Call them up and have them walk you through auto-forwarding and masking. • Buttons work in Safari-Not in IE or Firefox

    I've got a homepage created in Dw8 that has 2 Flash buttons
    whose rollover animation was created in Flash8. However, I added
    behaviors to the buttons in Dw, "onClick goTo URL". They bring up
    other pages with video that are in the same folder on the server.
    They work OK in Safari but not in IE or Firefox. Any ideas
    why?

    Hello again,
    Yep, sounds like you've got the general idea.
    hries22 wrote:
    I'm going to start from scratch and give it another go...would you reccomend converting every button to a symbol? Then give the symbols  a mouseover, click, and mouseout?
    I'd take all the elements that make up the button, and convert that into a symbol. Then you can go to labels with your code without worrying about the main timeline. Put all your code on the elements themselves, and not on the symbol instance.
    hries22 wrote:
    Also - and this minor - but is there a way to get a button's mouseover area to recognize transparency? For instance - I'll use a .png with transparency for a button...let's say the T-shirt. I want the mouseover to activate only when the mouse is over the t-shirt, and not over the transparent area around the t-shirt...any thoughts?
    By default, the hit area of a div in HTML is its bounding box. Right off the top of my head, I'm not sure there's a way to change it...maybe someone else can chip in?
    EDIT: here's an old-school way...could be a lot of work: http://www.svennerberg.com/2008/09/imagemap-rollover/
