Safari forgets cookies

Is anyone else having a problem with Safari suddenly dropping all the cookies? I can't figure out why it is doing it, it seems to happen randomly (to my point of view).

Your questions are right. You have to know all circumstances, to get a picture.
But, I have totally opposite problem.
After using my Safari (3.1.1.) on my MacBook, Mac OS X, Version 10.4.11, Processor 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (Memory 1 GB 667 MHz), I go to RESER SAFARI, where I checked it ALL: Clear history, Empty the cache, Remove all cookies, etc.
After reseting, I quit Safari. Later on, when I start Safari again (have EMPTY PAGE as Home Page), before I go to ANY site, I check the cookies, AND, there are ALL there, from previous session! I send several time this complaint to "Report Bugs to Apple" -- no answer.
This is disturbing.... Any comments?
It's possible your cookies file has become corrupted or locked. Quit Safari and look in ~/Library/Cookies (where ~ is your home folder) and put the cookies.plist file in the trash. Then relaunch and check to see if the cookies panel is empty. If all is well then try emptying the trash. Older versions of Safari stored cookies in the com.apple.Safari.plist file located in ~/Library/Preferences. You could also try putting that file in the trash.

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode|Firefox Safe Mode]] is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings and disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).
''(If you're using an added theme, switch to the Default theme.)''
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu by clicking on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item:<br>
    [[Image:FirefoxSafeMode|width=520]]<br><br>
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
    * On Windows: Hold the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * On Mac: Hold the '''option''' key while starting Firefox.
    * On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run ''firefox -safe-mode'' <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]] article to find the cause.
''To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.
    Thank you.

  • Are iPad Safari's Cookies And Website Data The Same Thing?

Are they the same, and do they collect indefinitely until you manually clear them?

    Sheden-
It is not clear if they are the same thing, but I do not believe so.  There are two places to manually delete Data:
    1.  Settings - Safari - Clear Cookies and Data
    2.  Settings - Safari - Advanced - Website Data - Remove All Website Data
I tried clearing Cookies and Data, and the data previously listed under "Website Data" went away.  When I tried just "Remove All Website Data", it went away again.  I can not tell if Cookies also went away since I do not know how to examine them.
After clearing the website data, images on a facebook page had to reload when I revisited it.  Normally they come up immediately.  I know the images are definitely not "Cookies"!
As far as I kinow, website data collects indefinitely.  I suggest you search the web for information about Cookies, to see if they have a limited lifetime.

If you go into Facebook settings, in the app section under your account, and delete the skype from your facebook apps, it appears to fix this issue.

  • Safari forgets last Google search

Hi, there's something that's been bugging me since the last release of Safari. Very often - probably 70% of the time - I will search something via the Google bar. If I click on a link and then want to go back to the Google search results, when I press 'back' Safari forgets the Google results page and jumps back to the page I was on before that. If I go into history the Google page is there but it's an annoying bug.
I haven't tried unistalling and reinstalling Safari yet as this seems to involve reinstalling the OS (or am I wrong?). The bug seemed to survive the last OS mini update...I think. Just wondering if anyone else had encountered this and if you came across any solutions.
(And yes I know other browsers are available, thank you )

Deleting the Google search window history is easy. Click on the magnifying glass and there will be an option to Clear Recent Searches at the bottom of the drop-down list.
Clearing Safari's address window of addresses is a different matter. There is no way to completely clear the list of suggestions or to turn off URL Autocomplete. Autocomplete gets its data from the cache, History, and Bookmarks. The only way to minimize autocomplete is to periodically clear the cache and History and to go through your Bookmarks and delete old and seldom used ones, including those created when Safari was first installed.
One work-around is to add an extra blank space either before you start typing or when you are done typing in the address. All the various alternatives will then disappear.
You can add your voice to all the others who want to turn autocomplete off by requesting a toggle in Preferences by sending a feature request via "Report Bugs to Apple" under the Safari menu.

  • Why is my Safari saving cookies and cache for sites I didn't visit?

Why is my Safari saving cookies and cache for sites I didn't visit?

That is the nature of today's data-hungry internet. Sites you visit often partner with sites you don't visit for sharing info on its vistitors. You end up with cookies from the other sites.
This may help: Open Safari Preferences and click the "Privacy" tab. Under the section "Block cookies and other website data," check the button labeled "From third parties and advertisers." Restart Safari.

Anyone have the problem I'm having with the Safari collecting cookies even when I'm not on a website?  I cleaned everything out and checked several times.  Each time cookies were added that I've never seen with my older version of Safari.  I have the block third parties and advertisers but I don't think it works.  Here's a sample of what is popping up:  247realmedia.com, 2mdn.net addthis.com, admeld.com, adsafeprotected.com, adsonar.com, bit.ly, bluekai.com, bluelithium.com, bluetoad.com bondware.com.......... over 100 things without a clue where they are coming from.  Especially since I'm not on any webpage!  How do I report a bug?  Is there a way to fix this?

Firefox + NoScript, BetterPrivacy, Ghostery, AdBlock Plus, Click&Clean helps.

HTML 5 has introduced a whole new range of tracking ability, you can search for the details online.
Flash cookie, everycookie, HTML cookies. Google has trackers all over the internet, they record your computer info and all your searches, ISP's record all your IP traffic and keep it for a year, cell carriers track your location via tower and signal triangulation (even non-GPS/smartphones) and keep the results for 6 months and both turn over everything to governments. In fact Uncle Sammy has NSA backrooms on the Internet backbone capturing the traffic in real time.

You may be paranoid, so is the government, and they got more money, power and resources at their disposal to act on it.

  • Safari deleting cookies

Hello - I am experiencing an issue with Safari deleting cookies for certain websites; it's random - not all http nor https. For instance, I use outlook web access for corporate email. Initially Safari kept my username/password for outlook access but now each time I shutdown/re-launch Safari, I have to re-enter my credentials. Has anyone else been experiencing similar issues? Is there a fix for this?
    I'm using Safari Version 3.0.4 (5523.10.6).
    Thanks,
    Paul K.

Since mine also crashes a lot, I can confirm that all cookies are gone when I send a crash report to Apple
    Hi
Apple doesn't respond to Crash Reports. Until the Crash Report Bug is repaired (perhaps in 10.5.2) if you need to see it, go to your Finder: Your User Account>Library>Logs>Crash Reporter. Inside that folder you'll find the Crash Reports (accumulated in one file with the latest report at the end).
If you want to resolve the crashes, start a new topic here. Copy/paste the most recent crash report (per above) to your post. In your post describe your browser activity when the crash occurs.

  • Safari Reset, cookies cleared, but I'm still auto-logged in on a forum?

I've noticed on a few forums I use that despite clearing the cookies from Safari manually or just resetting it with all options checked, even though it shows that there are no cookies set in preferences after these operations I'm still being auto-logged into some of forums. This is Safari on 10.5 Leopard.
The login data for these forums is definitely cookie based as well because I've tried visiting them with Firefox on my Windows machine, logging in with "keep me logged in" checked, and then reset Firefox. Sure enough revisiting the sites shows me as logged out.
Not only that but Safari on my iMac which is running Tiger works as expected on the same sites. Its just Safari on Leopard that is apparently ignoring my reset command?

Well I assumed I had been, I was using the "Reset Safari" menu option and one of the selections is to clear the cache and it is selected.
I have been trying this now since I posted and it looks like I've sort of worked it out now though. I tend to reset safari then instantly quit the app with Command+Q. It seems like when I was doing that I managed to do it so fast the reset command wasn't completing before the app quit, meaning some cookies/cache/whatever remained intact.
I used reset and let it sit their open on a blank page for ten seconds before I quit and when I restarted it I was no long auto-logged in to the websites. I can only assume therefore this was the problem, although, I didn't think I was that quick at quitting the app?

  • TS4207 I am unable to download an app, I went to settings, safari, enabled cookies, but I get a new sign in everytime saying I need to allow cookies?

I bought my husband a new ipad for Fathers Day. We are unable to download any apps. We get a message that informs us to enable cookies. We do everything as directed but continue to get cookie message. Can you give advice? Please?

It sounds from your description that you are attempting to download via Safari?

  • Safari Forgets Download Folder

I have created a Safari downloads folder with a folder action script to automaticaly open certain files on download. The problem is Safari keeps forgetting the folder I set in Preferences and reverting to the Desktop for downloads. I have erased the preference files both in user and general with no effect. OS 10.4.4, nothing particularly weird running except Default Folder and Font Reserve. Thanks

Why create a folder with an action script? Maybe that's the cause of your problem. Just create one in your finder, put it where ever you want it and set it in your Safari prefs as the default dl-folder and then activate in the same window 'open safe files after downloading', or something like it, cause I'm using the dutch version of Safari. This never gave me any problems.

  • Where does Safari store cookies?

I want to delete most (but not all) of my cookies. I know that I can do this through Preferences / Security, but it's a pain since the window showing the cookies is small and not re-sizable. It would be much easier to find the cookies directory and delete them using Windows Explorer.

You can't delete them using Windows Explorer because it can't read the file that stores them. You need to use the option given in Safari to delete individual cookies.
