Safari Freezes When Attempting to Access Apple Store

I was just wondering if anyone was experiencing problems with Safari 4 freezing and crashing when browsing to a specific page. In my case, it's when I try to access the Apple Store through the Apple website. When I click on the "Store" link, it begins loading, then freezes and crashes. I have reset Safari, and even gone as far as deleting and reinstalling Safari. It says my current version is 4.0.1 and no software update is available. Anyone know how this can be fixed? Any help or input is greatly appreciated!

Since it works fine in Firefox, that definitely indicates an issue with Safari 4. Did you try it in another user account?
Beyond that, I'm not too sure what you can do to get it working again. However, if you repost in the Safari for Mac forum, the folks there should be able to help. Here's the link for that forum:

I am having the same issues with my Dell Laptop. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 64 Bit addition with SP2 installed. This issue has been since I got this computer months ago.
I have checked/disabled firewall, symantec end point version 11, deleted the host file, used the msconfig procedures, uninstalled all of the apple/itunes programs in the recommended order. flushed the DNS cache, verified that no proxy server is being selected, and just about everything else I can think of doing with no change in the status.
The computer is fully patched through Microsoft update. I am also using iTunes v9.0.3.15.
I am using a linksys router which uses NAT. But this issue did work on my old computer with Windows Vista Home Basic eddition. So the only thing that has changed is the new computer with the differant version of Vista Home.
I have been researching this issue on and off for a couple of months with no sollution.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • ITunes Crashed when attempting to access Music Store

hello. I am using iTunes 6.0.5.20 as of today, and continue to have a problem carried over from the previous version...
when I attempt to access the iTunes music store in the regular manner the program closes without any error messages, the icon remaining in the system tray until i scroll my mouse over it upon which it disappears - the program crashes outright -
i have e-mailed apple support and attempted to use all of their automatically generated solutions in solving this problem including -
upgrading (was never the issue i stay up-to-date generally)
checking my network and program access settings including firewalls etc.
    run the repair process
run the un-install re-install process of both itunes and quicktime
i've also tried re-calibrating the itunes library by deleting the appropriate files and having itunes re-determine the included files... nonetheless the problem remains
this is becoming immensely frustrating and to be frank, i work in the recording industry and for all the talk about apple support - i have been immensely frustrated by the lack of personal support whatsoever - i have received only automated responses regarding online documentation... as if i didn't spend horus trying to solve the problem before sending an e-mail at all.
please if anybody has any ideas i'm desperate to solve this.
    cheers
    elias

Your problem is the same one affecting countless iTunes users, including myself. There seems to be a common factor in that most if not all are using Windows XP Pro and I've noticed that the computer make, when listed, is a Dell. I have been through all the same Apple fixes, waited on hold for support for 1 1/2 hours just to be hung up on. I've had this issue for over a month and it has transcended both iTunes ver 6.0.4 and 6.0.5. Interesting thing, sometimes I get an error message telling me iTunes has to shut down and most of the time, the application closes unexpectantly and I have the same icon in the system tray till I hover my mouse over it. Frustration has turned to anger and a desire to find another product to get music into my and my 2 kids Ipods. I'll keep an eye on your post and let you know if I uncover anything as well.

  • 'iTunes has stopped working' when attempting to access the store

This is driving me nuts, had this problem for almost two months now.
On my Windows 7 laptop iTunes is opening fine (able to play music etc) however trying to access the store leaves me with a 'iTunes has stopped working' error message, followed by iTunes closing.
I have NO IDEA what is causing this. I've tried numerous fixes from other threads e.g. copying Qwin files (whatever it is) to it's appropriate folder, redownloading, trying on different user accounts but no luck. I have a feeling this is to do with my account/iTunes match but cannot be certain.
On my mac iTunes works fine - I can access the store, play matched music etc.
Desperate for a fix to this! Anyone got any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Hello angus94,
Thank you for providing the details of iTunes unexpectedly quitting.  I found an article with steps you can take to further isolate and troubleshoot an issue like the one you described:

  • Itunes freezes at 50% when attempting to access the store on WIN7 Pro

Using a Dell Latitude with Windows 7 Pro, fully updated, and working internet - selecting the "store" from the iTunes page results in the status bar freezing at 50% and I can not access the iTunes Store.  Anyone have suggestions for setting changes etc.

Did not get any responses - so did some digging and found the answer myself in other discussions.
    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.

  • ITunes Crash When Attempting to access iTunes Store

So, here's an interesting one for you. Every time I try to access the iTunes store, iTunes decides to crash on me. No error message, nothing. Just poof gone.
It worked yesterday when I plugged in my iPod Touch and got it running for the first time. Everything else I've tried on iTunes works (with the exception of .avi files not importing, but I assume that's normal). If I access the App Store via my iPod, it works. It's just the store interface in iTunes.

I'll go ahead and provide the entire diagnostic thing, since more information is always good, and the diagnostic's full text isn't that much longer.

  • Unknown error -3212 when attempting to access iTunes Store (Windows 7)

This apparently is a firewall problem. I'm running Norton 360 on Windows 7 Home Premium SP1. I managed to solve the problem by going into Security>Manage Firewall>Program Rules, scrolling down to iTunes and setting the the Access level. Apparently Norton 360 occasionally (not always?) resets itself to "Auto" when a new iTunes update is installed. I reset it to "Allow" and access to the iTunes Store is restored.

  • Finder freezes when attempting to access a "shared" external hard drive (wireless via Airport Extreme)

    Please help!

Ok - for a while there, the hard drive would not come up on the desktop - but now on a re-boot of the compter, or if I disconnect the hard drive and re-connect it, a message comes up with three buttons which say:

  • Safari still  FREEZES when I click on iTunes Store Links!!!

Originally this Thread was called: Safari 4.0.3 PPC = FREEZES when I click on iTunes Store Links!!!
Wish I didn't specify the version, so that I could have continued it all as One Thread after the next update, 4.0.4... This Discussion Board doesn't allow the Author of the Top to Edit the Title of the Title of the Topic... Now that Safari 4.0.4 Update has been released, when people see 4.0.3 in the Topic Name, they might be more likely to ignore it. Lesson learnt...
Please review the Original Topic http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10469114 and Reply HERE http://discussions.apple.com/post!default.jspa?forumID=876 so it could be unified as One Thread...
    The latest:
After Sleeping my PB G4 during the night, the problem still exist. After Restart, the problem is gone... I'll continue to watch this, and hopefully it won't be happening too often...

So, I thought that starting a New Topic, without a specifying the Old Version 4.0.3 would be a safer bet...
Then you should close the old topic by marking it as Answered or Solved; don't leave them open.
If Safari still freezes, try this:
    1. Go to Home/Library/Cookies and delete the Cookies.plist file.
    2. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    3. Go to Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Web Page Previews and delete the contents of that folder.
    4. If you don't want to use the Top Sites or Cover Flow features, open Terminal and paste in this command:
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSnapshotsUpdatePolicy -int 2
then press Enter or Return and quit Terminal
    5. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    6. Go to Home/Library/Caches/Safari and delete the contents of that folder.
    7. Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete these files (if you have them):
    Downloads.plist
    History.plist
    Form Values
    LastSession.plist
    WebpageIcons.db
Then Repair Permissions, restart Safari and see if the problem continues.

Very frustrated with Apple. I have removed and re-downloaded itunes software at least a dozen times. When I plug in phone to synch, itunes does come up. Cannot access apple store. Programs stalls in middle and freezes my PC. I cannot download any apps, music or new OS5. Tried calling support, they will not help unless I pay for the help.  Then called the nearest Apple store and they laughed at me over the phone.
I did notice that quicktime did not download with itunes. Had to download quicktime separately.
What do I do to get this software to work?
