Safari freezes with Schubert Pdf-2

I've installed Schubert Pdf-2 plug-in and now when trying to print in Safari, I get a spinning beach ball. I've trashed Adobe PDF Viewer plug-in. Help

If Safari was working before you installed the Schubert plugin, and it's not working now, then I suggest you uninstall the plugin.

Hi guys, I'm new here and it's because of Lion.
Recently I'm facing some freeze problem on my Lion when I opening Safari and Mail. It will freeze up my Mac and eventually shutting it off by the "hard way".
But today, my safari freeze once every 10times of opening (average) which is really annoying.
I have verify my disk verify whatever there have in disk utility. Reformated the hardisk, Installed Snow leopard and reinstalled Lion 3 times and it does not help the safari. And ofcourse I did whatever updates there have.
Besides, I have tried "APPLE HARDWARE TEST". everythings is fine here.
But when I create a new guest account on Lion, the safari there won't freeze and run smoothly. But I wouldn't want to move all my stuff there.
It's been really annoying since today as I hardly able to launch Safari and type this out.
PLEASE HELP ME ALL THE EXPECT OUT THERE !!!!

Just for the record, this had nothing to do with Safari.
facebook was down for a number hours today:

  • Safari freezes with java

Every time I try to load a java applet, safari freezes (spinning ball) and I have to force quit. Any suggestions?

I reported the same thing here awhile back, and got no useful answers.
It only started happening after downloading Safari 5.0.
I've noticed, however, If you let the beachball spin for awhile, it eventually will load just fine.
Here are some sites that trouble me:

  • Browser freezes with opening PDF.

Have tried with AA9 and AA8 on VISTA and Win7. The PDF link in the page http://vtechworks.lib.vt.edu/handle/10919/25886 is locking up most browsers (IE, FireFox, and SeaMonkey), though it has worked in some cases. The page can be downloaded (right click) and opened in Acrobat, but it will not open correctly in the browser. Some other ETDs at the site in PDF form do open correctly, but not all. Any thoughts?

No problem with Acrobat 11 in Safari on Mac OS X 10.9.2. Opens fine in the browser, downloads fine.

  • Safari "freezes" with OS X Mavericks, anyone else having the same problem? Any solutions?

My Safari browser keeps freezing after I switch to a different application (i.e the app store, itunes store) and back to Safari. I can still move from tab to tab & swipe up/down on the websites, however the rest of the functionality is disabled (inclusive of clicking any material on the website or the tool bar of Safari).
Has anyone experienced a similar problem? Can anyone offer any advice on solving the matter?
    Thank you in advance.

I had a similar glitch with Safari. I tracked it down to how things were configured for the Mouse in System Preferences. I'm using the current Magic Mouse that came with my iMac in 2011 and I don't use all the mouse's functionality. I suspect the upgrade changed something in my mouse settings so I went back to be certain they were set as I had them.
    Under Point & Click:
Scroll direction natural - I leave this unchecked otherwise the scrolling works in reverse to what I'm used to.
Secondary click on right side - I leave this unchecked because I don't use it.
Smart Zoom - this I have checked off because I find it handy for zooming in on text that can appear too small for my comfort.
    Under More Gestures:
Swipe between pages with one finger - this I have checked because I find it convenient rather than having to use the back-and-forward buttons.
Swipe between full-screen apps - this is checked for convenience.
Mission Control double tap with two fingers - this I leave unchecked because Mission Control is an icon easily found in the dock.
I can't say this will definitely fix the problem except that it worked for me and the freezing of Safari is now gone.

When I try to open my safari browser, if freezes and a message pops up from onlinediagnosisnow.com.  It's some sort of malware I don't know how to rid from my computer.  Any suggestions?

If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide and The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Tool. Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.

    6. Be cautious where you go on the internet.
    7. Only download anything from sites you know are safe.
    8. Avoid links you receive in email, always be suspicious even if you get something

  • Safari freezes with WiFi connection working properly

    Hello,
While using my Macbook Air, (I bought it in Nov2012, so.. supposed to be brand new!!) and trying to connect in the internet, using Safari and Wifi, it usually freezes and won't load any pages.
I did check my Wifi router and it works fine. I have 2 iPhones and 1 Ipad connecting to this Wifi router and these devices are working fine.
The problem is when I turn on Macbook air, it shows that the connection with the Wifi router is ok, I got all bars in the signal, and then when I tried to open Safari, it frezees in the main page and won't load it. (The rest of the devices continue working fine.. )
I tried some of the posts here.. like enable/disable plug-ins, disk repair, deleting plist, upgrading my OS and also upgrading my Safari (there no newest version available to be downloaded for both Safari and Mac OS).
Also, I tried the "Assist me" option... and it shows like my Internet is not working.. all green spots until ISP.. then red light at Internet test..
but it is working for all other computers in the same Wifi.
My best guess is that some configuration in the Network part is not properly set up.. or even my Safari configuration is messing up my Internet connection when I tried to load facebook for example.
I got it working for a while.. when I had all the other devices turned OFF.. (like Iphones and Ipad) , and then I had to reboot my Macbook Air.. then it works for some minutes.. but then, suddenly, it stop working. (Seems that it's trying to load some Java Scripts in the page and it keeps trying and trying.. )
Any help will be much appreciated.
    Many thanks in advance.

So this not being your router's problem let's conclude that iPod is the culprit! You were saying that it worked properly until recently so it might be a iOS related problem. Try restoring the firmware using iTunes! But before, backup everything and proceed through it! After restoring, iTunes will ask about restoring the data or setting it up as a new one - DON'T RESTORE. Let the backup be there, try setting it up as new. Then verify the wifi connectivity, if all goes right then you can restore from backup! If all else fails, your device may require an authorised personnel attention asap! Cheers!

  • Safari freezes with a message from 247tech.help.  Allow me to check Leave Page or OK to get to address line.  What do i do?

When I open Safari a message immediately appears from http://247tech.help saying I am not protected against adware and malware.  When I click OK, a new message asks if I want to Stay on Page or Leave Page.  Regardless which one I select, it reverts back to the first message.  I cannot use the Back arrow or type in the address line.  The only thing I can do is Close Safari.  When I reopen it, the cycle starts again.  What do I do?

Close or Force close Safari, then restart Safari while holding the Shift key.
Do oo not call the number.

  • Issue with opening PDF file link from Safari

    Hi Everyone,
I got a problem with opening PDF file link from Safari 4.04. Instead of getting a normal pdf content, it shows some weird characters. Not sure it is something wrong with Adobe Reader Plugin or Safari?
I have uploaded a screenshot of the issue in the adobe forum (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/531870). Please help!
    Many Thanks,
    John

There's nothing wrong, except the fact that you have Adobe Reader installed. You don't need it, so get rid of it; it will only cause problems with Safari. What you're seeing is the contents of the PDF file, rather than having it displayed.
If you want to download a PDF file, you can either Control-click on the link and choose "Download Linked File As…", or you can Option-click on the link for the file and it will be downloaded to your Download folder (usually your Desktop).
If you want to view a PDF file in Safari, you don't need Adobe Reader; Safari is perfectly capable of doing this by itself and has been for years. Adobe Reader will only get in the way and slow everything down.

  • Safari 6 freezes with OSX 10.7.5

I'm using a recent Safari 6.1.6 update - and am now experiencing a problem I never had before with Safari on my OSX 10.7.5 MacBook Air system.
I am unable to use Safari for more than fifteen minutes or so before it freezes, and always when I'm switching to a new tab to view something. I never have more than six or seven tabs open. This is particularly irritating when I'm downloading material at the time, which is instantly lost, of course. Safari did freeze with earlier versions, but rarely more than once or twice a week.
Is there a way to return to earlier versions of Safari? Would this help? Any suggestions - preferable a solution - gratefully received.

  • Safari continues to freeze, with a warning quick shudder?

Have tried the offered solutions, but it continurs to freeze (perhaps more often) with a short shudder to announce the freeze.
Whats the reason and the solution???

    Several things to try...
From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache. See if Safari freezes. If it does, back to the menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari. Select the top 5 boxes, click Reset. If that didn't help...
Might be a corrupted preferences. Quit Safari.
    Go to ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
Relaunch Safari. If it doesn't freeze, move that .plist file to the Trash, otherwise move it back to the Preferences folder.
If it wasn't a preference issue, go to Safari > Preferences then select the Security tab.
Deselect:  Enable plug ins. Quit then relaunch Safari to test. if it doesn't freeze, then you need to troubleshoot Safari add ons >  Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
If it's not a plugin issue, try Safari in another user account. If it crashes there, that can be an indication that the startup disk needs repairing.
You need to use Lion Recovery to do that.

  • Safari iOS 8 freezes with keyboard shortcuts on iPad

Safari with iOS 8.0.2 installed freezes if I have one keyboard shortcut with two letters and another with the same two letters followed by a third, e.g., xx and xxz. If I want the text corresponding to the latter, as soon as I try to type the z, the z on the keyboard turns gray and Safari freezes. This was not a problem with iOS 7. Has anyone else experienced this?

My iPad is 3 years old. Prior to installing iOS8, it had never seized up, no matter how many tabs I'd had open. Since installing iOS8, Safari frequently freezes, no matter how many tabs I have open. In an effort to remedy this situation, I've reset my iPad several times from within Settings; I've reset my iPad several times by holding both the on/off & wake/sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple icon appears, thereby allowing the system to reboot; I've deleted numerous cookies from my iPad's memory ... and Safari continues to seize, usually while I'm in the middle of a wikia edit, though also in a Facebook post, and even in a prior Apple inquiry. Just what can I do to cease this vicious cycle? What is the solution to this iOS8 debacle?

  • I'm getting the rainbow wheel when I try tp pen in internet page (Safari). The page half loads then appears to freeze with the rianbow wheel.  I get the same result when I try to stream a movie from NETFLIX.  Freezes up rather than plays (after loading).

I get the rainbow wheel when I try to open an internet page. It loads halfway, then freezes, with the rainbow wheel whirring around. Smae thing happens when I try to stream a movie on Netflix.  The movie loads, then the wheel shows up and the screen freezes.  Same thing when I try a DVD, it takes the disc, but won't play when I hit on PLAY.
I am repair permissions, and all that I can do, but I am a novice.  Any help would be greatly appreciated because I spend big bucks and drive 40 miles to get Apple help.
Sharon in the woods of Idaho

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
If your profile info is up to date, you probably have a 2006 or 2007 MacBook with a CoreDuo or Core2Duo.
It probably came with 512MB or 1GB RAM memory and a 60, 80, or 120GB hard drive.
    You're still running OS X Tiger, 10.4.
Your DVD drive may be dirty or wearing out.
For specifics about your computer, click on the  Apple Logo in the menu bar, then About This Mac, and More Info... to find details.)
You may be running short of hard disk space. You should have at least 10% free, or 10 to 15GB free for best performance. Less than that, and your hard disk is spending lots of time searching for places to store data.
Complex web pages and sites like Facebook and Twitter, and pages using Adobe Flash, and high-bandwidth applications like video streaming from NetFlix can all cause your computer to run slowly, and the fan to run at high speed, because the processor is working hard. Conversely, email is not terribly resource-intensive, and probably still works pretty well.
Several things can each provide a small performance increase (listed in no particular order):
Adding more RAM memory. Upgrade to 2Gb to give your programs a bit of 'breathing room', especially if you are running more than one program at a time.
Erasing the hard drive and reinstalling the current operating system and programs from scratch. This erases all your existing programs and data. Unless you have backups and program discs, you lose everything currently stored on it.
Installing a higher capacity, faster hard disk, say 250GB or 320GB will give your programs and data more space, and perhaps faster access if you replace the factory 5400rpm drive with a 7200 rpm drive. If your current hard disk is nearly full (less than 10% free space), the drive has to 'thrash' to free space to store information.
Upgrading the operating system to OS X 10.5 Leopard or OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. Both are discontinued OS X versions, still available to order directly from Apple, but not likely found on a store shelf any longer. An upgrade to OS X 10.7 Lion might not be possible for your MacBook (details here: http://www.apple.com/macosx/how-to-buy/), and Lion would likely cause a further slowdown, because honestly, Lion is optimized for newer, faster dual-core or quad-core computers with fast video chipsets and 4GB or more of RAM.
A faster internet connection, for example: I switched internet providers to get a 3.0Mb DSL connection (up from a 512Mb connection) for an extra $10 per month, and saw downloads and internet browsing speeds increase dramatically.  With the slower connection, it was not possible to watch video.
Will all of these upgrades together get you close to the performance of the latest MacBook Air or MacBook Pros? NO!
Ultimately, you have a 4- or 5-year-old computer, and spending up to several hundred dollars for upgrades might not be a worthwhile investment for you, versus applying that much money toward the cost of a new(er) Mac, and perhaps passing your MacBook on to a friend, child, or grandchild who needs mainly email capability.
If a brand new Apple is not in the budget, consider a refurbished Mac from the Apple Store online. These are reliable computers from 'last year's models' and have the same 1-year Applecare warranty as a brand new model, and often sell at a discount of 10 to 30 percent of the price when the model was introduced.
I'm using a mid-2007 MacBook, purchased as a refurb from Apple in late 2007. It came with 1GB RAM, a 120GB 5400 rpm hard drive, and OS X 10.4 Tiger. Over the years, I've upgraded it twice. Firs to 2GB, then to 4GB RAM, to a 320GB drive, then to a 500GB 7200 rpm hard drive, and to OS X 10.5 Leopard, and then to OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. Rather than one more round of upgrades to OS X 10.7 Lion, I'm saving for a newer MacBook Pro or MacBook Air at some time in the future.

  • HT4550 safari opens with 5 tabs and the freezes

safari opens with 5 tabs and the freezes

I have been experiencing the exact same issue as eddiethered for the past 2 weeks, I'm having 4 old browser tabs open everytime I launch Safari.  This is not an issue of a settings configuration, it is an issue of a bad .plist or cache from what I can tell.  Like eddiethered, I have ensured the following:
My default homepage is about:blank, so upon Safari launch nothing other than a blank page should appear.
It is not an issue of restarting the OS and having "Reopen windows when logging back in" checked off, when I restart I ALWAYS uncheck that - but in the past week the same apps seem to relaunch automatically when they shouldn't.
This is not an issue of previously closing vs quitting the Safari browser, I Command-Q all my apps when I am finished with them.  Even when I hard-quit Safari, the old 4 browser tabs/websites reappear.
This is not a issue of Login Items as I don't have a single application listed as a Login Item for my Username.
I've also noticed other apps having issues (iChat, Chrome).  As of now Firefox is the only browser that is launching without any issues.  Yes an OS reinstall could be an option but that is a substantial amount of effort I don't want to invest.  Due to the other apps having issues this may be an issue at the OS level and not Safari.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
