Safari freezing a lot!

I used to love safari, but since its update 6.0.5 its freezing and crashing a lot! I uninstalled all plugins, uninstalled adobe flash player, but same problems keep on repeting. So frustated and using google chrome! What sud i do with safari 6.0.5. I cant even downgrade!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Phone is freezing a lot

Ok my phone has been freezing a lot. If I shut it off and turn it back on, it seems fine until it does it again. More of an annoyance than an actual problem, but what's the deal? I also posted another topic yesterday about it taking forever to get my yahoo mail lately. I don't know if this is yahoo or my phone?
I restored it last night with much trouble (more my piece of #$%@ HP laptop than the phone's problem!) and it still seems to be having the same issues.
Frustrating. Anyone else experiencing this? Any fixes? Short of throwing the phone in the lake? Or driving to Oakbrook to visit with a mac genius?

I'll assume at the start that you have not jailbroken or hacked your phone, have not added applications (other than webapps). If my assumption is wrong then that is where your problem is.
For unhacked phones the usual cause of this is bad data that has gotten into one or more applications (usually mail or Safari). So first step is to clear Safari data. In Settings/Safari clear cookies, history and cache. Then reboot the phone (Hold HOME and SLEEP for about 8 seconds, until the logo appears; ignore the "Slide to turn off" prompt and keep holding).
Try using the phone for a while without using the Mail app. If you don't have the problem try launching Mail. Again see if the problem returns. If it doesn't you've fixed it. If it returns only after using the Mail app you need to do a Restore, and do not reload backup data. This should fix it, but you will lose and photos in the camera roll, SMS messages, and settings.
If it still shows the problem you most likely have a hardware problem; call or take it to an Apple store for further diagnosis.

  • Safari freezes and won't open pages

Hi, I have been suffering from Safari freezing whilst opening the homepage, and then when click on any links it just stops loading anything. My homepage has been set to yahoo.co.uk, which partially opens, but then seems to not want to load images. The text and links show, but the links just don't react when clicked on. This has been going on for a couple of weeks now. I also have IE installed, which is fine, but I want to migrate to Safari for web use as more and more sites are recommending it.
    Can anyone help?
I also have an iTunes problem, which may or may not be related, but I'll post that in the relevant discussion.

Updating to Safari 6 for Lion may help.
Click here >  Safari Quits Every Time Opened: Apple Support Communities
Click the link posted by:  gregoryfromcork
That will automatically download this file >  Safari6Lion.pkg.download
    Now quit Safari.
Go to your Downloads folder and double click that file and follow the instructions for installing.
Then restart your Mac, try Safari.

  • Safari freezing time to time

When I use google chrome, my macbook runs fine all the time even without rebooting for a long time, but since safari has been updated in the past months, i thought i should give it a try again and after about a day of usage, it froze, just like it did a few months ago. I have to open Activity Monitor and force quit Safari, then reopen it. Now it works fine again...until it freezes again after some time. Its ANNOYING! Why isn't apple fixing this bug?? I thought Apple makes everything perfect, and Macs should Just Work, at least that's what they said in the ad campaign. That's why i switched to mac from PC.. and I'm very disappointed with 3 major bugs that I notice: menu bar gone (not accessible) after watching full screen video on safari (and also chrome) in full screen mode, safari crashing, and Messages app mixing up messages and delaying receiving messages and also giving error when sending messages after more than about an hour of not sending messages (these messages bug only happens with apple to apple chats).
Anyway, enough with my rant, this thread is for the safari freezing bug. Is there any way i can fix this and still use safari? I don't like chrome, and every other browsers, as they are not as smooth as safari. And also, i watch youtube videos in HTML5 using an extension and it works extremely well only for safari, and other browsers really lack good HTML5 video extensions. They all don't work well.
So please help me guys. Thank you!

From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then uninstall them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the malfunctioning extension by reinstalling it. That will revert its settings to the defaults.

  • Why does Safari freeze when the cursor hovers across "Bookmarks"?

    Safari v 4.1
    Hi,
When I move the cursor over "Bookmarks" in the menu at the very top of the window, Safari freezes for about 5 minutes. It can also freeze when the cursor is simply passing under the "Bookmarks". When I'm moving the cursor horizontally across the entire screen, I have to keep the cursor well below the top menu bar to avoid freezing Safari. Otherwise Safari is working OK. I often Force Quit" Safari when this happens, but if I wait, it will unfreeze.
This is all about hovering, not clicking.
Any suggestions as to why this is happening and how to fix it.
    Thanks, Rafael

    Hi Carolyn.
First, about resetting. I've never done it before, and I recall hearing—but have no direct experience—that it practically wipes the slate clean. I've built a very sophisticated Bookmarks Bar and Bookmarks Menu, and because I'm a researcher, I never erase history. When I started using Safari a long time ago, I was told by Apple to regularly erase history. Then a couple of years ago I was told by someone I trust that it's OK to keep it.
I regularly empty Cache and remove cookies.
Are these the top 5 buttons?:
    1 Clear history
    2 Reset Top Sites
3 Remove all webpage preview images
    4 Empty the cache
    5 Clear the Downloads window
I got this list from Safari Help>Resetting Safari. I'm using Safari 4.1, but I noticed that this help page referred to Safari 5 in the 'Reset Top Sites' explanation: "Reset Top Sites: … Top Sites page reverts to showing the webpage previews displayed when you first installed Safari 5."
    As for the rest:
2 Reset Top Sites—I’ve never made use of this
3 Remove all webpage preview images—not familiar or I don’t recognize what it is.
4 Empty the cache—Fine with that
5 Clear the Downloads—window Fine with that
I’m letting you know about these details before I proceed with your instructions.
    Thanks for responding,
    Rafael
PS Since I'm asking about Bookmarks here, I've been meaning to find out something about my Safari Bookmarks.html that is exported, then backed up to one of my external HDs. If Safari or my computer crashes, and I re-install Safari, then import those bookmarks, are they re-created to look just as they do now in 'Show All Bookmarks'?
I have some old bookmarks (or 'Favorites' I think they were called) that, when imported (in an html format?), appeared as a long list, rather than as a neatly tiered record of folders and files.

  • My IMac freezes a lot does any one knows why

My IMac freezes a lot and the multicolor circle shows up. Doe any one knows why? and How I can fix it?

The spinning beach ball can be caused by many different issues. I would suggest carefully reading the Spinning Beach Ball of Death article to troubleshoot where your problem is. Also when posting on a forum please complete your profile, without any information about your computer it's extremely difficult to help you out. Please click Profile Update for instructions.

  • Ios 8 on i phone 5 slow response and freeze a lot

I've updated my i phone 5 to ios 8.0.2  but now it's so slow  , freeze a lot and most of the apps crash  i turned on my location service nothing changes

As razmee209 said, you can use iTunes to install photos on your phone from wherever you have them stored. Where did you copy them to? Are you saying you selected them on you phone and just hit "copy"? That would only copy one at a time to the "clipboard" so that you can paste it somewhere else. As you copy each one, the previous one is deleted from the clipboard. This is not a storage area. Did you back them up on your computer or in iCloud?

  • Lightroom 2.6 freezes a lot

I am using LR2.6 with a catalog of about 39000 pictures, on a 64-bit W7 machine with 12g memory.  I keep everything in DNG, and export to JPG as needed.  The catalog keeps freezing up, and won't let me do anything, sometimes for several minutes at a time.  It opens again and is ok for a little while and then it freezes again, sometimes with one or more white panels and a notification that "Lightroom has stopped responding."  Sometimes it will go a long time without that happening, other times it is every few seconds.

I think part of the key is to optimize the catalog regularly every couple of days.
Whatever the magic is, somehow the problem seems to have disappeared in
    my workflow.  I have a catalog of 40,000 DNG pictures, a W7 64-bit, 12g
RAM, quad core and tons of internal and external HD space.  I have three
LaCie 2TB external drives, on USB, one of which contains all the DNG
files in my catalog.  I backup  and optimize the catalog
every few days, which I guess must be the key to something.  Other than
that, I cannot think of anything I am doing that is much different from
what I have always done, but somehow things are working smoothly at the
moment.  Knock wood.  I hope things improve for you as they did for me,
but there are still plenty of mysteries.  Maybe Adobe will sneak in some
fixes in their updates (without ever admitting that there were
significant problems in the first place!) and things will keep getting
    better.

Subject: Lightroom 2.6 freezes a lot
I am having a very similar issue with very similar computer.  50,000 images in catalog,  i7 920 cpu, 12GB ram, Windows 7 x64.
LR is freezing all the time between 5 and 50 minutes of use.  driving me nuts!
I thought I had some bad RAM so I ran memtest86+ for 24hrs and it checked out OK.
I thought it was my RAID array so i ran integrity checks and it came out OK.
I went back to thinking it was RAM and removed all but 2 sticks and tried to re-import my images (thinking maybe also corrupt catalog) and it would freeze at around 11000 images.  Swapped RAM for another pair and it happened again.
Then I thought it was a memory leak in LR2.6 so I put all my RAM back and re-imported my images and it was successful and has been running for 3 days straight with no freezes.
so all i think I did was change the order of the RAM (and re-seat it)
Anyone figure out what the actual cause and resolution is?

  • Safari Freezes Up

I can open Safari just fine, but once opened, if I try to use the menu bar, Safari freezes up and I get the spinning colored wheel. I can wait til the cows come homefor something to happen but the only way out is to "Force Quit" Safari. It was working fine until I downloaded a recomended update. I am very low on hardrive space, which I guess slows everything down. I have less than 450 meg.
If I choose to erase the hard drive and reload OSX and iLife, how would I do that and would it likely get me in trouble. Are there certain operational files I need to save? Is this a task for a novice?

    Hello Edward
Actually, for a long time now there's been a plethora of postings by exasperated individuals, including me, over the hanging behavior of Safari as described by you.
I picked one or two to add a reply to, and posted my own. Ther were so many; and I'm sorry I didn't particularly notice yours amongst the many.
In any case, I tried turning off Bookmark Bar, and it didn't prevent Safari hanging. I suspect you may be seeing the interminable spinning polychrome wheel back again in Safari. The only thing safari responds to then is Force Quit.
I believe Safari's hanging behavior is a huge problem for Safari, which, for reason(s) unknown to the public, Apple doesn't want to resolve. It's been going on for a couple of years in my own experience; and I know many people, including the IT-support Mac specialists where I used to work have simply given up and migrated to Firefox. The situation must be intentional on Apple's part, despite its trumpeting how advanced Safari is. What a strange and frustrating way for Apple to fail to support or at least level with its patrons, let alone to abandon what appeared to be core software.

  • HT201263 Video not playing, safari freezes or slow. Suggestions?

Hello, Safari freezes on me and sometimes closes. Worryingly it's intermittent as well. When trying to watch video it just states loading and never progresses, and it states I have an update to an App but nothing showing when I open Apps. Also cannot download any. Anyone assist please?

    1. Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data
    2. Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home button down for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple Logo

  • Safari freezes

Safari freezes on me...I get the spinning wheel and have to force quit. Usually happens when I am on www.myspace.com.
Several people have streaming videos, video codes on thier site...several which will not play on my computer...I dont know if that could be a cause of the problem or not. Is there a plug in I should install? Just dont know how to fix this annoying problem.

If it has something to do with the network, how many have routers? Or broadband modems?
Something that was a problem with networking on previous Mac OSes before OS X, the dreaded Mac pause. That problem was fixed with static IPs. That meant not using the automatic connection or the DHCP settings. We had to set the IP addresses manually from the list of IP addresses that were not in the list of automatically assigned IP addresses.
I did notice, when everything froze up, if I unplugged the power supply from my router, everything woke up. Which makes me think that this problem has re-arisen.
I am trying this "fix" now to see what happens.
I would have thought that this problem would have been fixed in OS X. Maybe as someone else pointed out that it is JAVAScript, that would be a shame.

  • After 10.9.2 update safari freezes

After the 10.9.2 update the week of April 21, Safari freezes up. I can still move the pointer but nothing else. I cannot force quit or open any other apps.  I shut down the machine and when I reboot I get the gray screen.  I did a safe boot, restarted and it worked until the next freeze.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At or near the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with "System Version." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • IOS8 Mobile Safari freeze/crashing for no reason

In Safari is crashing/freezing on some occasions but there is no way to debug how. I have control over the sites source, it first looked as if it was because of a form.. Later it looked like a 'click event' now even without any events bound (but a Javascript generated ul/li list) seem to crash Safari on both iPad Retina and iPhone 5s and iPhone 5 (tested) in iOS8. Even the simulator freezes up. iOS7 does not have the problems.
Anyone who knows exactly why Safari freezes (specific selector? specific css class?) PLEASE INFORM.
Or even better if Apple just fixed the issue...

Version:         5.0.5 (6533.21.1)   <  from your crash report.
You need to update Safari to 5.1
Click your Apple menu (top left in your screen) then click Software Update.
If you have problems using the updater, download and install from here > Safari 5.1
Other apps like iPhoto, iMovie, Garageband, etc are also crashing.
    Startup disk may need repairing:
From the admin account launch Disk Utility. /Applications/Utilities
Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Verify Disk (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If the startup disk needs repairing, follow the instructions for Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks

Why does safari freeze on Facebook whenever I scroll to a video? This only happens in Facebook and only when I scroll to a video.

    Hello,
Most videos on the internet are played using the Adobe Flash plugin.
Recent crashes of certain multimedia contents (this includes Youtube videos, certain flash games and other applications) in conjunction with Firefox are most probably caused by a recent Flash update and/or a malfunctioning browser plugin such as Real Player.
In order to remedy the problem, please perform the steps mentioned in these Knowledge Base articles:
    * [[Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems]]
    * [[Flash 11.3 crashes]]
    * [[Flash 11.3 doesn't load video in Firefox]]
Other, more technical information about these issues can be found under these Links:
