Safari freezing when using gestures

I have jsut installed os x mavericks. when using safari and gestures it seems to freeze the page. i have to quit and reload for it to work again. is this a bug? of something i can alter?

Tried it. Nada.
Swore that it was command, option, p, r. Had to check to confirm. Interestingly, when I rebooted with the flashed p-ram, Safari reloaded with all of my previously open tabs. The actual tab that I used to confirm 'command option' was a google page. So I clicked on a link and tried it out. When I swiped back, this time, not only did it lock up for a second, but I stressed it even more by swiping up and down (while it was locked). What it displayed was the google results but then it went all white. I would move the mouse around and on a mouse-over, the pointer would change and the link info would display in the pop-up box. But the entire page was all white. If I let finish loading, however, then I could swipe up and down and all was good.
But I don't think either one of these things should be happening.

when using a keyboard shortcut in a field on a web page in Safari, the browser freezes when I enter, just as an example, the third character of that shortcut. That third character pops up from the keyboard, and that's it. Any way to fix that?

Found that the Safari freezing only occurs when the shortcut typing results in a typing suggestion. However, if this typing suggestion is rejected before typing on, Safari does not freeze.
But it still an annoying bug.

Safari freezes when using citrix

I use Safari to log in remotely to my work IT system using citrix. This used to work perfectly, but ever since I upgraded to OS X Tiger, Safari regularly freezes when logged in through the citrix system. The only solution once its frozen is to force quit. I have tried Firefox but that has the same problems. I'm guessing therefore that it may be an OZ X Tiger problem??
The IT administrator at my work tells me that my citrix session is always fine - so it is a problem somewhere on my Mac causing this freeze-up.
The specific trigger for Safari freezing is always a pop-up message in my office Outlook system when I am trying to open html-rich messages.
I am using Safari Version 2.0.4 (419.3)
Please can somebody help me solve this as it is driving me mad!

Did you run permission repair and repair disk?
Try a couple of other things:
clear the Safari cache
trash theSafari prefernce file (com.apple.safari.plist)
another thought.... do a find on "plist" and see if there is a Citrix preference file. If there is, trash it as well.
Restart and see if things improve.
I am out of my depth when one talks about java/javascript settings. The Safari only freezing with Citrix is really odd. Can your IT people give you any help? Mine got me running very quickly and I have never had any problem.
I run (as you see) a plain vanilla OS X 10.4.8, completely up to date.
If none of this works, the only other step would be to do an archive and install - but that is a bit more work than might be necessary.
If none of the above helps, then let me suggest you post the problem as a new thread - documenting everything you have tried and the Citrix/Safari not playing well together problem. A new thread will get more readership - including people who know the java stuff.
Since I have not had a problem myself, the things I suggested were more or less "standard" troubleshooting steps.

Safari tab freezes when using gestures to navigate

Hi guys, I am really hoping someone can help me out here before I explode! Here is the issue. When I use the gestures (2 finger swipes) inside of Safari, occasionally the tab I am in will stop responding. The tab no longer will allow me to go back or forwards, if i enter an address in the bar it will not go to the address it just stays on the broken page i am on. If I open a new tab I can navigate to a new address, however the gestures do not work at all, no back or scrolling inside of safari. Gestures work outside of safari for example I can scroll in word or in notepad. To reset the issue if i quit Safari and relaunch it will work again for some time, before presenting again. It is also worth mentioning that if i "reset" safari from the menu the application will die and require a forcequit. This issue is only happening in Safari.
Here is what i have tried:
PRAM reset
Verify disk permissions
Update Java
Delete local content in flash player
Reboot
This issue does not appear to happen in other user accounts, though it is intermittent so Just may not have occurred while testing.
There is nothing notable logged in the console when the issue occurs.
Something strange I noticed is that the apple update window/appstore show the same behavior.
I am getting seriously frustrated that I can't fix this and have spent a good amount of time on it.
Any assistance would be helpful!

A Safe Mode boot takes much longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from the Apple () menu.
Then try gestures on Safari to test.

Since upgrading to Lion why does Safari freeze when using an email link?

I have a 21.5 in iMac (purchased late 2009). Ever since I upgraded to Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 I have had problems opening links from my email. Safari is my default browser, and now I when I open a link from my Mail, the browser functions do not respond. The page freezes and does not allow me to scroll at all, nor will any of the links work for me to click on what should be an active link. When I open a new browser page, it is fine--whether Safari, Firefox or Chrome. It's just when I open from Mail.
Anyone else reporting this, and is there something I need to change to make it work? I'm not very technical with the Apple products...thanks!

Thanks again but I have no peripheral devices connected. It's very annoying whenever I close the lid the logo stays lit and the computer does not go to sleep (light on front stays solid white). Each time it happens I have to open and close the lid 3-4 times before it finally goes to sleep. It's as if the computer gets hung up trying to go to sleep.

Safari freezes when using twitter

WHenever I try to send a safari page with twitter, safari totally freezes.It worked before but twitter is useless now. And this after 8 beta versions of ios 5!

Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that didn't help, troubleshoot Safari extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.

Imac keeps freezing when using safari

my imac keeps freezing when using safari or finder
The beachball appears and I have to wait.
My safari cache is emptied, have run Disk Utility to check permissions.
Rebooted various times.
Sorted out ``the community toolbar not supported" issue and still it's happening.
Anyone any tips on what to do next??

I have only been able to read your reply by going online on my phone -
I started up my iMac in safe mode on Saturday morning and reran Disk Utility , no problems.
I shut it down and re started it as normal. Whilst I was able to use my Mail and MS entourage and Safari brower,
the computer was very slow and the beachball appeared briefly each time I used a program.
On Monday , it didn't recognise one of the printers and was continually hanging.
All software is up to date and I have run Disk Utility - repair permissions again.
I shut the computer down yesterday and rebooted in Safe mode this afternoon so that I could try to look in
Console.

I've encountered the following errors in some PCs, running Safari 5.1.7 in MS-Windows 7 Pro:
Safari crashes when using the dialog box to import/save files. One doesn't have to actually upload or download any file, the mere invocation of the relevant dialog box brings down all open Safari windows after a couple of seconds.

I have tried in-installing safari but it seems not to help. I have tried installing it to a third, newly installed pc and come to the same result.
All PCs are fully up-to-date as it regards Microsoft and Apple patches. Any ideas as to why this might happen?

My iMac freezes when using Firefox

My iMac freezes when using Firefox. We have to restart our computer.

TutorDaddy, if this Mac is still covered by the initial warranty or under AppleCare, take it in and have it looked at. As the old label used to say, there truly are "no user serviceable parts inside." Kernel panics very usually indicate failing hardware.
I have an older iBook G4 that started developing kernel panics and like you, despite reinstalling the OS from a freshly formatted volume, they kept continuing. I looked at the crash log and saw that in each instance of panic, the last bit of code to be accessed had something to do with AirPort. Knowing that the AirPort software was at then current levels, I surmised the problem to be a bad AirPort networking card which, on that particular model of the iBook, was a very small module attached directly to the logic board. Since the computer was out of AppleCare, I broke the machine down myself (I didn't realize that there could be so many barely visible screws in one machine) and removed the offending piece of hardware. My iBook lives but without WiFi, it now sits as a more or less desktop machine needing an ethernet connection to stay connected to a network.
I do not suggest you break into your iMac. First of all, I'm guessing one would need to be able to pull off the glass and have the necessary glue to reattach it, which is not really available to us consumers. If you're feeling adventurous enough to read the crash logs from each panic, you might be able to surmise the hardware component (or badly written application or library; it can happen) that's causing the panic. If it's a software issue, remove the offending software app and see if the panics return. If it's a hardware issue, it's best to let a competent service tech qualified on Apple hardware to handle it.

While the usual advice is to remove Rapport, there have been a number of recent reports where both that & genieo adware were involved.

Otherwise, if you really want to keep it, perhaps uninstall it completely, including any Safari extension; then reinstall.

Windows 8 freezing when using Firefox

When I'm using Firefox or Chrome browsers the whole entire PC is freezing.

it would help to know how Firefox is configured.
Can you send me your troubleshooting information from the Firefox installation that's having issues? This is a good part in troubleshooting.
*Navigate to <code>about:support</code> via Address Bar
*Click the button that says <code>Copy text to clipboard</code>
*Now, go back to your forum post and click inside the reply box. Press Ctrl+V to paste all the information you copied into the forum post.
Firefox has hardware acceleration set to "on" by default, but it's still young, which means some video cards or drivers might have problems with it. You can try to disable hardware acceleration to see if that alleviates your problems.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Then perform these steps for Firefox version 29.0 and above:
*Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and select Options for Windows or Preferences on Mac or Linux. For Firefox 28.0 and previous versions, click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.

Note that if this issue happens in both Chrome and Firefox that it may be a system issue and not a Firefox related issue,
Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. 
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. 
All these programs have free versions.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

I have just updated to OSX10.10 Yosemite and now Elements freezes when using spot healing or clone stamp.

If you are using track pad, please use mouse and see if your issue is resolved.
Moreover, this issue has been resolved in PSE 13. You can give it atry as well.

The numeral part of my keyboard causes my mac mini to freeze when using the 0 - 9 keys.. I have to restart to continue.
Does it have to do with the disk utility?
I already did the disc repair job

Open System Preferences - Universal Access and check whether 'Mouse Keys' are activated.
If so, then deactivate them. They could be the cause of your problem.

MacBook Pro freezes when using any app other than the web browser.

My MacBook freezes when using any app other than the web browser. I can open up Google Chrome and use it all day with no problem, but if I minimize it and try to browse through photos in my picture folder or do anything that involves the Finder, the computer just freezes up and I get the rainbow wheel. If I put in a CD to play it, the computer freezes with the rainbow wheel. Any suggestions? I would like to use the mac for more things than the internet.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
