Safari frozen after Pop up  appeared

A pop up for  "surveyrewards2011.info" came up and I can not close any safari pages nor can I shut the ipad off.  Before I perform a restore I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions

Tap Settings / Safari. Clear the History, Cookies, and Cache.
Restart the iPad. Press and hold the sleep/wake button until you see the red slider then swipe to power off. Then press and hold the sleep / wake button until you see the Apple logo.

  • Safari freezes after pop survey... help

Just a quick FyI about my computer - I have Yosemite 10.10, 2.5 GHZ, 8 GB memory 1 T storage .  When opening an e-mail from Apple bee's  for a coupon, a pop up came on about taking a 30 sec. survey about apple bee's.  I did it, then it morphed into "you have a virus on your PC" and the small grey box with the Safari symbol popped up saying to call this number right away for help getting the virus off my computer.  Everything was frozen, but I went down to the dash bar and was able to "quit" out of Safari.  When going on the bank website this morning, same thing, 30 second survey about the bank and the pop up about your PC being infected and everything froze.  I was again able to quit Safari and reopen into my bank site again.  What do you think was going on?  I have "MacKeeper" and went into that and it scanned and said all was "Excellent"!   I guess if people can get into all the stores and Sony, I guess they can breech my computer too.

    Force Quit .
Press command + option + esc keys together at the same time. Wait.
When Force Quit window appears, select  Safari if not already.
Press Force Quit button at the bottom of the window.   Wait.
    Safari will quit.
Relaunch Safari holding the shift key down.
Turn off Wifi. Click Wifi icon in the menu bar and select “Turn Wifi off”.
    Visit another website.
    You won’t have internet connection.
Turn on Wifi. Click Wifi icon in the menu bar and select “Turn Wifi on”.

  • Safari frozen after 10.3 update

    I just upgraded to 10.3 from 10.2.8.
Everything seems to work fine with the exception of Safari. The window will open but nothing will write in the address bar or the google bar even though they highlight in blue. I can see my bookmarks if I go to ADD Bookmark so I know they are not erased. But if I click on the book icon nothing happens so I can't see my bookmark topic headers even.
    Any help would be appreciated.
I have an ibook Power PC G3.
    Thanks,
    Mmcv

    Michelle:
If you had high speed internet I would suggest going ahead and updating to see if it works. However, it would be a shame to go through all that work and have to do it again.
If everything else is working let's try this.
Repair Disk Permissions using Disk Utility. Download and use Pacifist to uninstall Safari and then re-install it from the disk. Pacifist will help you to do both. After installing Repair Permissions again.
If it seems to work well you can go ahead and update. My suggestion is either to have a friend with High Speed download the combo and burn it to disk for you, or download the stand alone updates one at a time and install them. Save them in a separate folder in case you need to reinstall.
Hope this works, as it will make the whole thing simpler. Let me know how it goes.
    Good luck.

  • Safari frozen after updating to 1.3.2

    Hi all,
I've just updated Safari to 1.3.2 through Software Update, and now, when I start Safari, it loads the start page (google), but then it freezes. The address bar is completely blue, as if it were still loading the page. The mouse is in rotating rainbow mode, and the app is totally unresponsive.
Has anyone had the same problem?... Can anyone tell me how to uninstall the 1.3.2 update (if possible at all) to try to see if this solves the problem?
    Thanks a lot
    PowerBook G4 12"   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I too had this problem. The Safari icon would just bob up and down and then stop altogether. I reloaded Safari 1.2 and then attempted to update again to 1.3.1, and 1.3.2 as of today. The installer says it can't happen on my system, or at least my hard drive. So, i'm stuck with 1.2 but I'm gonna live with that as I don't think it's much of a security issue. For me, this could be because my hardware is as basic as a OS X can handle - 600MHz of glory. I've been waiting for the software updates to out-do the hardware but Apple makes no mention of that in the system requirements of Safari 1.3. I know these problems aren't exactly unheard and my only, less than useful, advice is to keep a copy of Firefox around as a backup browser. You'll find other posts on this site with similar problems but I haven't found one that has helped me yet. Until then, you can try and reload 1.2 as it's still working quite nice for me.

    HI..
Open the Finder by clicking the Finder   icon in your Dock.
From the menu bar at the top of your screen click Go > Go to Folder
Typs this exactly as you see it here   ~/Library/Safari
    Click Go
Move these files from the Safari folder to the Trash.
    LastSession.plist
    Downloads.plist
    History.plist
    Quit then relaunch Safari.

  • After reinstalling, a blank pop-up appears in the middle of the page, which has no copy and no way to delete, but it prevents taking any action on page.

I had to restore my hard drive to a date two weeks earlier to eliminate an issue I was having. For some reason, this buggered my Firefox browser. I uninstalled it then reinstalled it (several times, now). It appears the reinstall is successful; however, when I open Firefox, a pop-up appears in the center of my homepage. It is blank except for a tiny box that I can check and uncheck and a grey bar in its center that doesn't seem to do much of anything. There is no copy in the pop-up. There doesn't appear to be any way to close it and it prevents me from from taking any other action including closing the page. Any clue what this pop-up is and how I might eliminate it? It doesn't appear with any other of my browsers.

I can't take any action once my Foxfire homepage is open and the mystery pop-up appears, which is immediately. I have to restart my PC to close Firefox because the pop-up prevents my doing anything connected to Foxfire. I can open other browsers or do other functions, such as open documents, but Firefox is frozen on the homepage. And, although I can move the cursor around the page, I can't click on anything.

How can I turn off Recently Visited Websites when opening new Safari window?
After tapping on the two overlapping boxes on the bottom right of Safari, a new blank window appears with Favorites, but now in iOS 8, recently viewed websites are listed. How can I turn this function off? I do NOT want my new Safari windows to have history displayed of previous websites I visited. I only want my Favorites (on the top) to be displayed. Please help.
Thank you for your time, patience, understanding, kindness, and concern.

Thanks for replying, but that isn't the answer I am looking for.  Also, there is no + sign, UNLESS you do tap the overlapping boxes.
Let me try to ask my question a little more clearly:
When I tap the two overlapping boxes on the lower left (the option to Open New Windows), the new Window that appears will show your Bookmarked FAVORITES. But with my new iPhone 6, and the new iOS 8.0.2, when I tap the two boxes to open a New Window, my Bookmark Favorites show (as they always have and should), but below them, there is a dividing line underneath them, and it says Recently Viewed Websites, and has these websites available to tap.
So my question is, HOW DO I TURN THESE OPTION OFF?
*UPDATE  (10.13.14): Since I have asked this question, I no longer see these Recently Viewed Websites under my Bookmarked Favorites in my new Window tabs. So I hope that Apple fixed it, or somehow it was a mistake, or somehow I changed an Option on my iPhone 6 that stopped this for reoccurring.
Thank you for your help bobseufert! I appreciate your concern, kindness, and the time to try to help. I am grateful.
    Have a blessed day.

Have you tried a hard reset yet to see if that makes a difference?  To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.  This may take a couple of tries.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]
    * [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
    * Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

I have ipad 2. Safari stopped working. Screen appears with light gray cover and is frozen. Some websites show errors when debug is on.
But how actually can I debug or fix it? Thank you.

    Here are a couple suggestions:
    1.  Go into Settings > Safari and Clear Cookies Clear Cache
    2.  Fully close Safari:  from your home screen, double tap your home button and the most recently used Apps will show up.  Hold your finger on the Safari App until all Apps start jiggling.  You'll see a minus sign on the upper left side of Safari.  Touch the minus and Safari will fully close.  Touch your home button again to stop apps from jiggline, then touch your home button again to return to your home page.
    3.  Reboot your iPad:  Press and hold BOTH the power and home buttons at the SAME time for at least 10 seconds (ignore the red slider) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go of both buttons and your iPad will restart, but no data or settings will be lost.
After iPad comes back up, try Safari again, and you should be good to go.
