Safari fullscreen width resize

Hello!
In OS X Lion, with Safari 5, you could go full-screen with Safari, then resize the width of the browser by going to the left or right edge, hold the option key, and reside the width of the browser.
I make responsive websites, so this feature is key. Can you enable that feature in Safari 7 with Mavericks?
Thanks!

Hi...
Just so you are aware, you are not communicating direclty with Apple here. This is a user to user forum.
What you can do is send feedback to Apple >  Apple - Mac OS X - Feedback
You can resize the Safari (7) window without the Option key. Hover the cursor over the edge of the Safari window then drag.

  • How do I stop iPhone Safari from dynamically resizing the visual viewport?

    Sorry I post this here, but I couldn't access the developer forums (no error given, it just keeps returning me to this page https://developer.apple.com/devforums/) I'm not even sure wether that's been moved here and it's just the redirection non working.
    I need to Stop iPhone Safari from dynamically resizing the visual viewport, or in other words, to stop it from trying to "fit" the layout into the viewport.
    Why?
    Because any recalculation javascript does on absolutely positioned elements makes the whole site super IRRESPONSIVE.
    I don't know wether the issue is the element going out the already-set layout viewport (which triggers the page resizing to fit the visual viewport) or just the calculations being made constantly, but I can stop the calculations from happening when not "touching" the screen, but I need a way to stop the page resizing.
    I tried setting the viewport width to 1040px, as my layout width, and it fixed the header's width being narrower than the body (or shifted left?), but the whole page is still resized with every motion-frame (one every 3 seconds, due to overloading the redrawing engine)
    Is there a way to prevent that?

    No, that link doesn't solve it. It just says the same is found everywhere online.
    There's probably no way to do it, as per their way they "accidentally" omitted the oposite case: the page being wider than 980. They only mention what to do if the site is narrower. Something I learned is big companies (with reputation management) could let you run in circles for years no answer rather than telling you something is not possible.
    I'm the developer (can't access the dev forums, don't know why) and I DID setup the viewport, scale and other properties but none of them stopped from re-fitting the new re-sized layout in the viewport. They just ensure the "initial" view.
    I think the feature I'm looking for must be achieved with some JavaScript function targeting Safari-proprietary variable/property… if even possible.
    I just had to make things never reaching the edge until somebody contributes something useful

  • Safari option to resize image to fit window?

    This item has come up here before, but seems to always fizzle out. Did anyone ever find a plugin for Safari that would resize images so that they fit in the browser window?
    The problem is when you try to view pictures that are larger than the screen size, I would like to be able to have my Safari browser automatically resize them to fit the screen. MS Internet Explorer has this feature and I have gotten used to it!

    I want to achieve this: Table whith background image but cannot get it to work in an Apex page with HTML region.
    Adding the following code to the html region:
    <table class="tableWithBackground" width="300px" height="200px" border="1">
        <tr>
            <td>
                <img class="tableBackground" src="#APP_IMAGES#Demo.jpg">
                Hello
            </td>
            <td>
                World
            </td>
        </tr>
        <tr>
            <td>How are<br><br><br><br><br>you?</td>
            <td>I am fine</td>
        </tr>
    </td>
    Results in a page with a table but without borders (at his stage I have not yet uploaded the Demo.jpg). After uploading the Demo.jpg results in a table with the entire image placed in het first cell. After placing the class code in the CSS inline property I expected to see the result as is shown in the Table whith background image  demo. For some reason this does not work (the image is no longer visible).
    Can anybody tell me how to achieve my goal?
    This is a workaround. What's your real goal? Why do you want to do this?
    What browser(s)/version(s) are you using? All current browser versions have support for CSS3 background sizing which is the proper way to do this.

  • Safari window not resizing

    I am running Safari 5.1.9 on OS X 10.6.8.  For the last few days, Safari windows always open at exactly the same size, and there is nothing I can do to resize them.
    The resize button in the bottom right corner doesn't respond.  The green maximise button on the top left doesn't do anything.
    I have tried:
    * restarting
    * forcing Safari to open links in a new window
    * emptying Safari's cache
    * resetting Safari
    * trashing Safari's preferences
    * turning off all plugins
    * trashing com.apple.windowserver.plist
    * starting Safari in 32-bit mode
    * beating my head slowly against the screen
    This seems to be a problem only with one user.  When I switch to another user, Safari behaves itself very well.
    My system software is up to date.
    Any ideas?

    Try deleting the cache this way. Might make a difference.
    In the effected account, open a Finder window. From the menu bar top of your screen click Go > Go to Folder
    Type of copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
    Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
    Quit and relaunch Safari and try resizing the window.

  • How to I stop safari from automatically resizing the bookmark bar when I click on the search bar?

    there is probably an eloquent way to ask this but I don't even know what the feature is called.
    Here is what it's doing:
    I'm using safari in landscape mode on my iPad.
    I click on the search bar and then the bookmarks come up below.
    It takes a second to automatically resize to a size that make no sense, usually cutting off bookmark titles...and the delay of it resizes drives me nuts.
    Safari did not used to do this until I guess ios 8. Any ideas how to stop this annoying "feature"??

    Try deleting the Cache.db...
    Quit Safari.
    Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
    Move the Cache.db file from the com.apple.Safari folder to the Trash.
    Relaunch Safari ...
    You may want to try the Safari Reading List as an alternative to tabs.
    Click the eyeglass icon just to the left of the Bookmarks icon top left side of the Safari window.
    Drag the url to the window or click Add Page

  • Safari content width (NOT window width!)

    Okay, so that none of you are confused: I know how to make my Safari browser window as wide as my screen, and I do it for my own reasons. I like it that way.
    This is not a philosophical question: How do I make the content match the width of the window?
    For reference: On the PC at work, when I open the New York Times it fills the whole screen, soup to nuts. On my Mac at home, when I open the New York Times it only fills about half the width of the page, leaving a sea of white unused browser to the left and right of the content. I hate having the computer up to my face to be able to read it, and I feel that if the width of the page were to fill the screen it would not be an issue; it isn't at work.
    Since I can't find the answer via google, I'm hoping I can get some help here. Remember, I just want the website to match the width of my screen. I know that some websites automatically do this. Basically I just want to zoom.

    It sounds like your PC's monitor at work is smaller and/or has a lower screen resolution (i.e. renders objects and text larger) than your Mac's screen.
    I opened your first New York Times link in *Windows Internet Explorer* with the window at my full screen width and this is how it looks:
    And this is the same page in *Safari on my Mac*, also with the window at my full screen width, same size screen and same screen resolution:
    They look the same, taking up the same amount of page width.
    It's not Safari that is rendering things differently than on your PC. I'm almost certain it's that your screen on your PC is a very different size or has very different resolution settings. If so, the actual width in pixels of the window you have open on your PC is much smaller than the width in pixels of the window on your Mac, essentially allowing just that central portion of the page to be visible in your PC's browser window.
    On your PC at work, go to the control panel and check the settings in Appearance and Themes, Change the Screen Resolution. What does it say the current screen resolution is? (e.g. 800 by 600 pixels, 1024 by 640 pixels, etc.) Then on your Mac check System Preferences, Displays, in the Display section, and check the resolution setting there. If the Mac's screen resolution is much higher (larger numbers) that explains the difference you're seeing. You' have more pixels to work with on the Mac, so you're seeing more of the web page.
    I hate having the computer up to my face to be able to read it, and I feel that if the width of the page were to fill the screen it would not be an issue; it isn't at work.
    It sounds like you might be having problems that are not related to the layout of web pages as much as with the size of text and other page elements on your Mac as opposed to your PC? If that's the situation, there are several things you can do to make things easier to read on your Mac. Let me know if that's the problem and I'll go further with that thought.

  • Terminal command for opening Safari fullscreen by default?

    Not fullscreen per day, but maxed out so I can still see the menu bar. Or at least to open with a bit more padding? Safari generally does a good job, but every now and then I'd like my window a bit larger.

    Champ, it doesn't seem like you are trying to be very helpful at all, maybe stay out of this discussion. I'm after a solution to a very specific problem which I'm quite certain is some sort of bug.  Many other users have reported the same issue..

  • JTable width resize

    Hello,
    I insert a JTable without header in a JTextPane. I'm able to resize the width of the columns with the mouse, but the JTable isn't resized. I call the method JTable.setWidth(int width); to set the start width.
    Do anyone knows a solution ?
    Thanks in advance

    Usually a JTable is added in an JScrollPane. Please use setMinimumSize() or setPreferredSize() to set this pane the size you want it to start.

  • How do I set Safari to automatically resize new window when opening a link?

    Here is the scenario. I have one Safari window open, I click a link that is on that page, I have Safari set to open a new window (not a new tab) so that is what it does. It opens a new window from that link, but the new window is too small. It is about 1/4 the size of a window that fills up the screen. How do I set up Safari so that when I open a link in a window, it automatically resizes the new window to fill the screen?
    Thanks much,
    Paula Jo

    Hi Paula Jo
    Next time a new window automatically opens, resize it to the desired size by dragging the lower right corner. Then, click on the red button in the upper left to close it.
    Now, select a link in your existing browser window to open the 2nd window. It ought to be the same size as what was set previously.
    Let me know if that works.

  • IPhone's Safari Page Width Inheritance

    How does Safari on the iPhone figure out the default width of a page? Different pages have different widths and all of the sites I go to seem to fill up the screen quite nicely, but there is a problem.
    I've visited my personal site on the iPhone which is at the default domain (www.). I've downloaded the iPhoneChat script (http://www.publictivity.com/iPhoneChat/) and uploaded it to a subdomain (aim.). When I visit the subdomain, Safari appears to be remembering the width of my site at www. and applies it to the site at aim.. This means instead of getting the login form nice and big as it should be, it's all zoomed out and tiny with really really wide scrollbars.
    I've tried setting the width of the body to 320px, but the iPhone seems to insist on forcing what appears to be an inherited width from the www. site. That causes the login form to take up less than 1/4th of the screen instead of filling it up nicely like it should. Needless to say, as a web developer, this annoys the heck out of me.
    What I would like to see is each page being handled on it's own. Figure out the width of THAT page and make it fit, no matter the width of other pages on the same site. Or, at the very least, make a distinction between subdomains.
    It would also be nice to be able to set a specific width for a site with dynamic width. That would make it a lot easier to read long pages of text such as the books on http://www.gutenberg.org.

    PLEASE don't set it at 320 and not user scalable. The owners of MacTech set it to 320 and you can't see it on portrait at all and have to scroll slightly right to left on landscape to see the page.
    I've read Apple's document on this, and while they say 320 should work it really doesn't quite. Perhaps 315?
    http://developer.apple.com/iphone/designingcontent.html
    and the example page:
    http://www.mactech.com/commapplenewsforiphone.php?hours=8
    Not sure why Apple said 320, but note that you can't see all of the icons on the side without missing a bit of the text on the right. And the not user scalable thing is annoying as heck.
    My two cents, for what they're worth,
    Aym

    Hello Manish,
    The report column width will adjust depending your content.
    In the html expression of your column definition you can wrap it in a div or span and specify for ex. style="overflow: auto; width: 100px;"
    Hope that makes sense.

  • Safari Fullscreen Problem

    Hi there
    currently working on this site:
    http://berndkuehl.com/indexSavge.html
    When using Safari on Windows XP and switching to Fullscreen the menu at top appears.
    When using Safari or Firefox on MACOSX 10.6.3 or 10.4.11 and switching to Fullscreen there, menu is not showing but a big black part appears at the top.
    Newest FlashPlayer installed of course.
    How can that be? Is there a line of html-code missing for MAC-platform?
    Knowledge very much appreciated, Thanks for Feedback!

    Almost forgot.. I see the menu in Safari 4.0.5 / Mac OS X 10.6.3 and on my iBookG4 running 10.4.11 it's fine too in full screen mode. Sometimes it takes "hovering" over a menu in order for it to appear in full screen mode on Safari but no problem here either way. Don't know if that helps you any.
    Also, there's nowhere on the page to "View Source" to get a look at the HTML code. This is on a blog? http://www.produced-by-savage.de/ If you have problems with your code, contact them.

  • Safari 4.0 - resize tabs, to have them as in 3.x?

    Hello,
    is there a possibility to change the size of the tabs permanently, I would like to have them smaller, and always the same size, as in Safari 3.x

    it's easy to forget which side of the tab the X is on!
    To be fair, it is on the same side as the red 'Close window' button that is present on all OS X applications, so from that point of view Apple are being consistent.

    Try the below code (simple way), you please proceed further...
    var gBounds = app.selection[0].geometricBounds;//select your image
    app.selection[0].geometricBounds = [gBounds[0], 57.5, gBounds[2], 142.5]
    app.selection[0].fit(FitOptions.frameToContent);

  • No drop-own menues in Safari/ Can't resize PDF

    When I view PDF pags in Safari, they are almost too small to read. I gather from reading other discussions that I should be able to zoom in and out by command-clicking and choosing zoom from the drop-down menu, but no menu appears.
