Safari getting worse

This is just a general observation and gripe. I find myself turning to Firefox more and more as Safari is not working on an ever increasing number of web sites. I expect that Firefox will be my default browser in the very near future. You would think that if there was one Apple application that would excel it would be Safari. Sadly that's not the case.

Hi
The 3rd party Safari items I'm referrring to are usually found in the HD>Library>InputManagers folder, or your User Account>Library>InputManagers folder.
For general maintenance, I have found resetting Safari via the Safari Menu is a good way to rid oddities out of the cache and database files. Safari has been quite responsive for me. If you want to explore further, try the reset command and let me know how you make out.
Firefox is an island unto itself, i.e. not integrated into other apps such as Mail, iChat, Address Book etc. Hence, it's less likely to show the type of problems you're seeing with Safari.

iPad 1 Safari Crashes Constantly and getting worse day by day.  Has Apple come up with a solution?  Now I am hearing its also happening on the newer models.  My company is about to buy a lot of tablets and I will not recommend Apple anything until they fix the problem.  Granted 30 or 40 iPads is not a huge impact but i promise once the outside world hears about this BS things will change.  There are plenty of other tablets out there that do not have this problem.  At the very least we should have the option of rolling back to a stable IOS...

I have already tried all the things mentioned above as well as other things such as other browsers etc.  Its is obviously a problem with the hardware.  I also borrowed a brand new 4th gen iPad and it does the same thing.  Even after upgrading it to 6.01.  An occasional crash is one thing and can easily be waved off but this is clearly systemic and the problem appears to be related to graphical images and videos.  Both iPads are the 64gb versions, the only difference other than model is the iPad 1 has ATT cellular.  The new version is clean i.e no other APPs loaded other than what came with it.  I have 7 more coming but im seriously considering sending them back in favor of an Android tablet or the MS Surface.

  • Safari gmail support gets worse every revision

gmail is rapidly becoming the email program of choice for many people. i find it incredibly arrogant of the safari development team that existing issues are not only blatantly ignored, but the behaviour of the browser is actually getting worse with every new revision.
    * gmail scrolling problem is still not fixed (old issue)
in gmail, in conversation view, if you scroll down long conversations that are expanded, either the scrollbar graphic is corrupt, or specific parts of the screen are redrawn improperly. this problem probably occurs on other websites as well. it has been occuring since tiger was released, and probably even before that.
    * twofinger scroll on pbook trackpad within iframes does not work anymore. (new issue in 10.4.4)
no matter if an iframe has focus, the method of scrolling the window with the trackpad on newer powerbooks only scrolls the entire window, not the window that has focus.
    * enter email address in gmail bar and press tab functionality is broken. (new issue in 10.4.4)
just enter a few characters of a name in the gmail address bar to see suggestions. press tab and it autocompletes. in previous versions of gmail, you would press tab again to move to the next field (subject line). in this version of safari, it repeats the emailaddress.
There is NO excuse not to fix this.

    Tom and others,
The issues that Safari is having with gmail (and not the other way round) are documented pretty well in the Safari bug tracking system already. Most, if not all of them are graphical errors that reside in Safari itself, and NOT in the way Safari parses the pages. If the code on a webpage breaks a scrollbar into two or more parts, visually, that means the application that parses the html/javascript is broken, not the html/javascript itself. Apple is well aware of this problem, but apparently doesn't really care too much about it.
Gmail is not incompatible with Safari. On the contrary: it runs quite fine. We should be happy that Google goes through the effort of producing Mac compatible versions of their code: most of the web2.0 hype companies don't care. They put up signs saying 'osx version soon' on their site, because nowadays it's good manners to show your love for OSX. Usually it's nothing more than flirting, though. There is, however, no worldwide conspiracy against Macintosh, as you seem to imply in your message.
Safari just has a few visual rendering errors when displaying the gmail site that are annoying and appear to be part of the browser's inner code. The errors have been around for many revisions, and with recent new revisions, they actually got worse. The gmail code hasn't changed, it's the Safari support for gmail that got worse.
I was just frustrated with that, because I love Mac and OSX, and I love gmail, and hate to see a winning combination work together poorly.

  • Since a recent trip to Mexico, Safari and other browsers are now being taken over or manipulated by other web sites. I installed adblock and the situation is getting worse. What to do?

Click here and follow the instructions, or if there’s a type of adware not covered by them on the computer, these ones. If you're willing to use a tool to remove it(you don't need to, but may find it easier), you can instead run Adware Medic; this link is a direct download.

  • Apple getting worse and worse?

I am a huge fan and occasional user of Apple since the 80s and buy exclusively Macs since 2006 and have become a power user.
I buy the newest machine every 1-2 years.
    I currently own an MBA 11, 2011, i5, 4GB, 256GB SSD. ( also Ipad, iphone)
Since Lion and now Mountain Lion- both of which I love from the User Interface standpoint my experience is getting worse and worse over the years, though:
    - I see the spinning beach-ball often
    - yesterday mail was so unresponsive I couldnt type an email
    - it seems that iCloud doesnt care what I am doing it claims the full internet bandwidth (I have 8Mbps) for itself whenever it feels like it
    - now iphoto (which gives me lots of beachballs) just crashed while I was editing a picture
    - lots and lots of times, the mac does not wake from sleep and instead I have to hold the on-button for 8s to restart the hard way
    - sometimes something is clogging up the CPU and then the fans kick in and they never come down although no processes are running that require lots of resourses, then I have to restart to get the fans to behave like normal again
-sometimes I cant quit iTunes, whenever I quit it restarts all by itself- again rebooting is the only solution
All in all my experience is slowly moving from: "it just works!" to "it is becoming a nuisance!"
I am working with my computer almost all day every day, so I really need it to work smooth in order not to waste my time.
But I am mostly using mail, Office 2011 and iphoto, skype and a few other things - nothing that resource intensive and of course all my system is running the most recent versions of everything and I verified and repaired disk permissions recently.
I am starting to look at Windows machines again if it goes on like this.
Anyone else like this? Any suggestions for help?

Please read this whole message carefully, especially the warnings, before doing anything.
    1. The changes to your configuration suggested here should be considered provisional; they may not solve your problem, or they may remove functionality that you find useful. If a third-party system modification that you want to keep is causing the problem, seek help from its developer.
    2. WARNING: Back up all data now if you haven’t already done so. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to its present state, even if it becomes unbootable. If you’re not sure you can do that, STOP — DON’T CHANGE ANYTHING. If you’re dissatisfied with the results of the procedure suggested below, restore from your backup. I will not be responsible for the consequences, and I will not be able to help, if you ignore this warning.
    3. You should either remove or update the following system modification(s), if an update is available from the developer:
    N/A
and definitely remove at least the following:
    † CleanMyMac
    † DivX
    † MacKeeper
    † SIMBL
    4. Whatever you remove must be removed completely, and (unless otherwise specified in this message) the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the third-party developers, or to follow their instructions. In some cases it may be necessary to re-download or even reinstall the software in order to get rid of it. I can't be more specific, because I don't install such things myself. Please do your own research.
Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickYourMac.” First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickyourmac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, email the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickYourMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickYourMac.” If not, open “BrickYourMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button.
Again, please don't ask me to do this research for you. You can do it better than I can, because I haven't installed the product and I may not even know what it is.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase your boot volume and perform a clean reinstallation of OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
WARNING: Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" that purport to remove software.
    5. I recommend that you never reinstall the modifications marked with a dagger (†) above, if any. If your problem is resolved after uninstalling all the above modifications and rebooting, but you still want to use some of those not marked with a dagger, you can experiment with putting them back, one at a time, testing carefully after each step. Keep in mind that system modifications may be incompatible with each other or with future OS X updates, so it may not be clear which one is at fault.
    6. If you still have problems after making the suggested changes and rebooting, post again. Remember: if you don’t like the results of this procedure, you can undo it by restoring from the last backup you made before you started.
Remove the "MacKeeper" crapware as follows.
Note: These instructions apply to the version of the product that I downloaded and tested in early 2012. I can't be sure that they apply to other versions, nor do I intend to repeat the test.
IMPORTANT: "MacKeeper" has what the developer calls an “encryption” feature. In my tests, I didn't try to verify what this feature really does. If you used it to “encrypt” any of your files, “decrypt” them before you uninstall, or (preferably) restore the files from backups made before they were “encrypted.” As the developer is not trustworthy, you should assume that the "decrypted" files are corrupt unless proven otherwise.
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Applications from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A. The "MacKeeper" application is in the folder that opens. Quit it if it's running, then drag it to the Trash. A dialog will pop up asking why you want to uninstall it. You don't have to provide that information. Enter anything you like in the text box, then click the Uninstall button. All the functional components of the software will be deleted. That's the only useful feature of "MacKeeper:" it deletes itself. Reboot.
Do not try to uninstall by dragging the MacKeeper icon in the Dock or the LaunchPad to the Trash.
Here are some general suggestions. If you want your computer to be usable, don't install crapware, such as “themes,” "haxies," “add-ons,” “toolbars,” “enhancers," “optimizers,” “accelerators,” “extenders,” “cleaners,” “defragmenters,” “firewalls,” "barriers," “guardians,” “defenders,” “protectors,” most “plugins,” commercial "virus scanners,” "disk tools," or "utilities." With very few exceptions, this kind of material is useless, or worse than useless.
The more actively promoted the product, the more likely it is to be garbage. The most extreme example is the “MacKeeper” scam.
The only software you should install is that which directly enables you to do the things you use a computer for — such as creating, communicating, and playing — and does not modify the way other software works. Never install any third-party software unless you know how to uninstall it.
Uninstall SIMBL as follows. Back up all data before making any changes.
Select Go ▹ Go to Folder… from the Finder menu bar, then enter the following text in the box that opens:
    /Library
A folder will open. From that folder, delete the items listed below (some may be absent.) You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
    Application Support/SIMBL
    InputManagers/SIMBL.bundle
    LaunchAgents/net.culater.SIMBL.Agent.plist
    ScriptingAdditions/SIMBL.osax
Log out and log back in.
Make sure you never reinstall SIMBL. It’s likely to come bundled with another third-party system modfication that depends on it. If you want trouble-free computing, avoid software that makes miraculous changes to other software, especially built-in applications. The only real exception to that rule is Safari extensions, which are mostly safe, and are easy to get rid of when they don’t work. SIMBL and its dependents are not Safari extensions.

  • Safari gets stuck/very slow on some sites

Some weeks ago I did install by mistake a Mavericks Developer Pre-Release of 10.9.2 (or 10.9.3... I don't remember exactly) on my development Mac.
Since then Safari gets stuck on some sites; one of them is StackOverlow. The page loads partially then Safari hangs for some time 5-15 secs. (user interface becomes non-responsive with spinning wheel) then the page finish to load.
I was hoping the problem would have been fixed with the first public release so I didn't swiched back to the last backup (second mistake, very stupid).
Now on 10.9.5, Safari 7.1.2 (9537.85.11.5) the problem still persists.
I hope there is a way to fix the issue without reinstalling everything.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Paolo.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.

  • Flickering Green pixels all over 21" Apple Cinema Display is getting worse

Has anyone ever had this problem before? I have a 5 year old, not overly used 21" Apple LCD Cinema Display. Just recently, it started having these tiny flickering green dots but only on black fields. Now it is getting worse. I am now having the same problem only this time, additionally, its red on white fields. It goes on and off intermitently. Sometimes, my monitor would just turn GREEN especially after viewing some photos. (I think this monitor was made in Mars or something)
What is causing this problem? Do I need to get a new monitor or can I still have it fixed? Please help.

There seems to be a couple of threads on this issue, including:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1954716&tstart=0
In my case, the severity of the flicker varies with what is trying to be displayed. In screensaver mode, for example, there is no flicker unless I choose to display photographs. Problem is also quite severe when I'm in Aperture; less so in Safari.
I've had the same problem with two separate graphics cards so it must be the cable or the display.

  • Logic Pro 9 is unstable on my system and just keeps getting worse.  Any ideas?

Hello all, so, I've had a Mac Pro, Quad-Core 2.93 GHz Intel Xeon, 16 GB RAM, Mac Pro running Snow Leopard for about 3 years now. I use Logic Pro 9 (Academic Version) and it is really, really unstable. It seems to go through periods of getting worse, but lately it's been unbearable. I am a professional and I find it hard to believe that this software is allowed to have the word "Pro" in the name if it's this unstable for everyone. But, it seems that only some people have the issues I have. Off the top of my head, a few of the main issues are: CPU spiking like crazy (when the Activity Monitor says very little usage by Logic), I know some of the workarounds like making more auxes and splitting up the load, but this is ridiculous. I shouldn't have to work around a professional piece of software just to use it. Sometimes the CPU spikes with one instrument or one audio channel and nothing going on. It's really messed up.Then there's the memory errors when Logic is only using 1GB or RAM, IF THAT. I don't understand this at all, it also can happen in a fully loaded session or with barely anything going on. Then there are the random crashes that make no sense. There's also the part where it does not agree with many LEGIT-OWNED plugins, like Refx Nexus, XFER Nerve, most of the UAD plugins and many more. There's literally a TON more bugs, but these are the big and obvious ones that ruin my workflow. I have not been able to find a real fix for this, from deleting the preferences to reinstalling. I really don't understand it and Logic seems to work much better for other people I know. It also runs much smoother on my really crappy, old laptop. There's nothing wrong with the Mac Pro (other than it's probably self destructing like we all know Apple products do, but this has been a problem since the day I purchased it), it passes all tests and runs perfectly with any other software - from audio/video editing (Cubase, Ableton, Pro Tools, Final Cut, etc. all run like a dream) to video games. So, I really am fed up with this because I've been using Logic for so long that I really don't want to switch to a new DAW. That would slow down my workflow even more than Logic's crashes already do. Someone please help me, if you can.

    Pancenter...
Yes... but I have come across some setups that came with a native SL (and even one Lion!) installation.. that somehow had a corrupted or older Prokit installed for some unknown reason... and given it's a quick fix to try.. I thought I'd mention it..
I frankly don't think it is entirely a Prokit issue itself, but it wouldn't do any harm to try and install v7 just in case it is part of the problem...
    +1 on the UAD stuff....
Also, at the time it crashed... according to the logs...the OP was running Ableton Live at the same time, presumably rewired with Logic... so add all that together with UAD plugins... and that's quite a load on the system...
Finally in thread 32 there is a weird exception msg relating to the Trash2 plugin.. that I haven't seen before...
    Thread 32:

That might be nothing... but as i said, I haven't seen that one before and given what else is going on.. it might be involved too... or nothing to do with that at all!

  • Print head alignment keeps on getting worse and worse the more I try to "fix" it

First off, I know that this question doesn't really belong in the mbp section, but since I am printing from one, I thought this would be the closest match.
I have an Epson NX420 printer which came with my 2011 mbp 13in for free (err... $100 off the original $95ish to be exact). It will turn 3 years old in less than a month.
This past week, I have had troubles printing "good" images, so I did the print head alignment on Epson Printer Utility 4, following the written directions. I printed something out, and it was still disgustingly off, so I repeated the process two more times, each time printing something different. The vertical alignment is fine, but the horizontal alignment seems to get worse and worse. One thin line will be split into two in some places, and one will be dotted while the other solid, and in the case of color, the two bands are different colors. Solids come out grainy.
I don't want to waste any more paper and expensive ink for something that is not fixing itself. Since my mbp is still under Applecare warrenty, will Apple fix or trade my current printer for another one for free, or does Apple have nothing to do with printers other than its sale? If not, are there alternative ways to fix this problem? I am sure I am choosing the box without any bands at all and if there is I choose the lightest band-in-a-box and click realignment.
Here is the recent printout of random lines and text, after three unsuccesful trials of print head alignment.

This is a printer issue and it's only covered under the Epson Warranty Program, which is 1 year.  AppleCare has nothing to do with that.
You'll probably have to replace the printer if the print heads cannot be replaced.  That's the issue when you buy an inkjet that has print heads that aren't part of the ink cartriges... when they go bad, they go bad and you're hosed.  If the issue persists after a print cartridge change, then it's definitely the heads.

  • Can't Sleep or Shut Down - Getting Worse

I have a new MBP with WinXP Home installed on a separate partition created with Boot Camp 1.2. I use Windows to access a work system, otherwise, I am always in OS 10.4.9.
Everything worked perfectly for about two weeks.
Beginning about a week ago, I noticed that the laptop would sometimes not sleep with the lid closed. The Apple logo would darken, but the pulsing light would not come on. If left in this condition, it would get very, very hot and need a restart by using the power key.
At first this was occasional, but now, if the MBP has been on for more that five minutes it is constant. In addition, I cannot shut down using the Apple Menu. The shutdown progresses to the blue screen, and then freezes.
I have verified the disk, repaired permissions, and reset the PMU. This particular unit is not connected to any peripheral devices by USB or FW, but is on a home network with a printer and an Airport Disk which automounts at startup.
It's not reasonable to have this unit crash every time on sleep or shutdown. The sleep problem is present when booted into Windows XP or MacOS 10.4.9, but I have not yet seen a shutdown failure in Windows.
The fact that this problem is progressive (getting worse) suggests to me that it is a software, not a hardware issue.
    Any thoughts?

    UPDATE
I have corrected the shut down issue, so far. After the usual hoop jumping with Applecare with no success, I re-installed the OS (except this time it was a clean install as opposed a migration from my old system.)
I installed each update individually and tested the shut-down via the apple menu after each install. So far it has worked. I started with the Battery Update and then the 10.4.9 then the security update. Then all the rest. NO More trouble.
I have not reinstalled all my non-apple software. I installed Firefox (which is my browser of choice. Machine still shuts down.) I also used T-Bird but I have not installed it yet.
GDee: If U have T-bird installed or use it try uninstalling it. See if that solves your shut down issue, too.
That was the last major app install I did that I can remember. Just a hunch.

  • Extremely slow in every way. Typing, loading, moving and even just scrolling from the top of the page to the bottom. Keeps getting worse. Maddingly frustrating!!! Help!!

Firefox has gotten extremely slow. Typing, loading, searching, even just scrolling from the top of a page to the bottom. My daughter had the same thing happen to her and had to get her computer stripped down and completely reloaded. I don't have that option. It has no viruses and has been completely freed of all things that could slow it down.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== About a month ago. It is getting worse.

Hmm... try downloading the [http://www.firefox.com latest] version... but if that doesn't work then try [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode Safe Mode]. Not sure what could be causing it...

  • Yellow tint! the 3rd Screen of my iMac 27, it's getting worse and worse...

Hi everyone not sure if there is anything more i could do with this, I have a 2010-13 week iMac, it came with a 'bearable' yellow tint problem from the beginning, after a hard drive failure i had to send my iMac back to Apple care, i was hoping the screen problem had been solved so I asked them to replace my screen as well, it came back with a worse panel showed much larger area of yellow tint...
Then I decided to wait for a few months until a week ago before my holiday i called for another exchange, was hoping for a perfect screen after my holiday, now holiday is over and iMac is back, just right after I pressed the power button, the start up screen with apple logo clearly tells me that i have got a even more disgusting panel - the worst of all i have to say, a new uneven shadow line on the bottom plus the usual yellower tint spreads over the middle of the screen, oh yes, they decided to make it even worse, a big dead spot as well in the corner ....
after a few hours, when i was editing a photo in Aperture, I have discovered something even more disturbing, from right edge of the screen inwards there is around 8cm wide vertical band shows obvious brighter tone than the rest of screen...
I do a lot of black & white photography plus a lot 3D graphic work, for a while I had tried to live with the yellow issue until it got really frustrating - now i have to once again arrange an exchange as this one is just unbearable!
Is this really Apple? Hard drive failed after a year and this is the 3rd screen of the iMac, and it just gets worse...
I wonder if there's anyone who had the luck to get the yellow screen replaced by a decent one?

Are you talking about a mid-2011 iMac or a 2010 iMac?
As it seems, the issue of color inconsistency of the iMac display is far from solved. Yellow tint, uneven brightness, light-leaks are very easily found even of newer models. I have a two-week-old mid-2011 27-inch iMac that I tried to replace for a new one because of yellow tint issue. It turned out that the replacement iMac had a worse screen... So I kept the first one. Not sure if the right thing to do is just get the screen replaced. It seems users have done it with no success...
So, I guess these problems are structural on the iMac line. They seem very much to be omnipresent. And I don't see Apple offering a genuine/trustworthy solution through its in-warranty support.

  • My sons touch has gone very light , almost White. It gets worse as the battery wears down. He swears he hasent got water near it. What could this be do you think?

My sons I touch has gone very light in colour almost white . It gets worse as the battery wears down . He swears that it hasent been near water so would Anyone know what this is . Should I take it in to fix ?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My screen has a gouge in it and it starting to spiderweb. Is there anyway to prevent it from getting worse?

I went to use my iPad mini and the screen has a gouge on the side of it. It is starting to spiderweb. It is only a small spot currently. Is there any way to keep it from getting worse?

No, and it would be a REALLY good idea to make a backup of your content as soon as possible, then take the iPad to an Apple store genius bar for an out-of-warranty replacement.  If you backup to iCloud the techs can restore your content while you wait.

  • WRT160N v3 range getting worse?

Hello, I've used this router for about 6 months with no problems, but recently I started experiencing terrible lag playing online with my Xbox, and have since discovered my router's wifi range is not what it used to be.  My router is in a bedroom with my iMac and modem.  My TV with my Xbox is one floor below it... so this definitely shouldn't be too far.  Again, the wifi in my house has worked perfectly for months with no problems at all...connecting to my xbox, wii, iphones, ds, macbook....  I just moved my modem and router down to the room with my tv, and have my iMac connecting via wifi (AIrport) now.  For a few days it worked perfectly, then I get up this morning, and I can't connect from my iMac.  So I try my macbook and I can't connect until I come downstairs in the same room as the router.
Any suggestions?  It simply seems that my router's range is getting worse with time, which is kind of crazy to me.  I appreciate any help anyone could provide!

The TV intereference is very possible
I recently set up a Dish TV HD Satellite Receiver and put it in the large PC desk that contains a "Ton" of PC/Networking devices, a couple of 'large' SubWoofers for a 5.1 audio system and an LCD TV off to the side
The IR remote for the Dish reciever would hardly function - I was ready to return the remote and/or the receiver but tried setting up the receiver further away from the 'sea of spagetti/wires' in back of the PC desk
Fortunately I had a extra 20 ft HDMI cable because I ended up putting the Dish receiver on the other side of the room, and the remote still has some 'lag' in it but functions as best as it can for the situation
Your type of signal intereference is a little different but my analogy shows how signal of most any kind can be affected/interferred with
Here is a link to a page in Linksys' Knowledge Base that has other links explaining some of the different situations involving signal problems
