Safari & Gmail Chat

Gmail added a new feature recently which lets you chat with other gmail users who are on, and log your chats. Unfortunately, this does not work in Safari. Anyone have any idea why, is it just something Apple needs to update?
On Firefox the new window appears and it works just fine, but try in Safari and it just doesn't appear.

is it just something Apple
needs to update?
You might want to ask Gmail why, when they launch something new, they are unwilling to make it usable on Safari, which has been around for years now already.

  • I have an iphone 4s, I installed Vtok but the video chatting part of the app is not working when I try to chat with my husband through gmail on his PC. Can I fix this or is there another app that will let me chat with my gmail chat contacts?

Vtok video chatting is not working on my iphone 4s. When I try to do a video chat with my gmail chat contacts who are using a PC we each only get the voice part of the chat and no video. Is there some way to fix this or is there another program that will let me video chat with my gmail chat contacts? Thank you.

    You can not merge accounts.
Apps are tied to the Apple ID used to download them, you can not transfer them.

  • After march 25th 2011 see blank page of hotmail, gmail chat is not working

On monday, 28th of March 2011 after starting Firefox when tried to go to gmail received warning 'This connection is untrusted' and added this site as exception (i saw this warning too many times last couple days). After that logged in to gmail, chat was not working and button 'more' was not working as well. Also, cannot login to hotmail - see blank page. I went thru gmail support and googled. Cookies cleared, addons uninstalled, refresh pressed, restarted, computer date and time is correct, completely uninstalled Firefox several times, tried versions 3.6.13, 3.6.16 and now the same situation with Firefox 4. Also checked dom.storage.enable which is true. Nothing did help. Anyway, everything working with IE fine, and, sure, everything was perfect week ago.
After some searches found article, that was something changed with sertificates on March 25th. I think it is somehow connected to my problem. Here are the articles:
    http://www.ghacks.net/2011/03/25/microsoft-updates-windows-to-block-fraudulent-digital-certificates/
    And maybe this one:
    https://blog.torproject.org/blog/detecting-certificate-authority-compromises-and-web-browser-collusion
    Any workaround very appreciated.
Didnt noticed anomalies with other websites yet.

Also, when I check this post several times a day, I always see warning 'Connection is untrust'. If I close browser and reopen immediately everything is ok.

  • Firefox constantly asks me to allow gmail chat.

Everytime I sign into Gmail, firefox asks me if I'm sure I want to let the gmail chat plugin activate. I tell it yes and to remember, but it has no memory.

    No problem.
Thank you for using the Mozilla support forums and Firefox.

  • FFX 5.0 - I lost use of video/audio in gmail chat. But works in IE.

I installed 5.0 and FFX no longer recognizes my camera or mike for gmail chat. IE does recognize them for gmail chat. They both work on skype. Adobe flash was updated two days ago. Should I try to uninstall Flash and reinstall? Thanks in advance. Ben

'''There is no Firefox 5.1''' -- Firefox 5.'''0'''.1 was for Mac OSX only. Windows and Linux versions of Firefox weren't updated, they only got a number change for full version downloads.
You don't seem to have Flash installed, for Firefox at least. IE uses a different version of Flash than other browsers use.
1.Download the Flash setup file from here: <br />
    [http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe Adobe Flash - Plugin version]. <br />
Save it to your Desktop.<br />
    2. Close Firefox using File > Exit <br />
then check the Task Manager > Processes tab to make sure '''firefox.exe''' is closed, <br />
    {XP: Ctrl+Alt+Del, Vista: Shift+Ctrl+ESC = Processes tab}
    3. Then run the Flash setup file from your Desktop.
    * On Vista and Windows 7 you may need to run the plugin installer as Administrator by starting the installer via the right-click context menu if you do not get an UAC prompt to ask for permission to continue (i.e nothing seems to happen). <br />

  • How do I disable video (w/built-in isight) on gmail chat?

I have a macbook with a built in isight and am finding it impossible to disable the video on my gmail chat. Please help!

Then could you possibly tell me where you found it .. cause for me deleting the 'google talk plugin' doesn't do the trick .. google voice doesn't work in my country but I see the little green camera icon when i log into google chat and even in my chat settings i see my webcam working perfectly - SO how do I completely disable that ??

  • How do I bring up my gmail chat? Also pinging like darn Radar System

Just bought a macbook pro.1st time apart from iphone and ipad to use the system. No idea of how to have my gmail chat displayed.Help.Also my pro makes a dinging noise as if recieving notifications but have turned off sound for notifications.Driving me nuts.

Thanks. I can change the forwarding settings in Gmail to be either POP or IMAP. That is quite simple. I just looked at those settings on the Gmail server and, to my surprise, both are enabled. In order for outlook client on my computer to receive IMAP emails I have to change the email account settings in my current outlook from POP to IMAP. I don't need to be using the Exchange version of Outlook to receive IMAP. I guess I'll do a little research tomorrow on Exchange so i can figure out what, if anything, it might do for me.
I glanced at the link you sent me and it looks like it might be very helpful - another project for tomorrow.
BTW: I hit "This Solved my Question" by accident. I meant only to "like' your response so you would get some benefit from the help you've given me so far. I hope I haven't discouraged others from taking a shot at helping me. I suspect there is more than one way to approach this and, as you know, my problem isn't really solved until I have what I need all set up and running smoothly.

  • Address Book/ Gmail chat/ Jabber

I set up Google Talk following the online instructions.
It automatically downloaded the two contacts from that address book, but then I started trying to add additional contacts to the google chat.
When I clicked "add" and typed in the name my address book came up and then I added the google email address as the Jabber account and made the gmail account the only account, but it deleted all of the other email addresses that I had for those people in Address Book and it doesn't have an undo feature to get back those addresses. Help! I need them and I don't know how to get them back!
Also, I would like to add more contacts to the Jabber/ Gmail chat and I don't kow how using iChat.
    THis is confusing.

Looking for a solution to this too!
I keep my iPhone contacts & Apple Address Book in sync through iTunes & recently thought of keeping my Gmail contacts in sync with the Apple Address Book as well. Researching online showed this is pretty much a dead end in terms of a simple sync for the user but since I use my iPhone & Apple Address Book to mainly control & edit my contacts, every now & then I just create a backup of 'vcards' with the date of that day & import them as a new group to Gmail. This new group will say something to the extent of 'Apple Address Book Jul-28-2010'.
I don't make changes to my Gmail contacts but constantly delete the old Apple Address Book 'group' & keep only the latest one. That way all changes are brought upon my Gmail contacts as well. Even though there might be duplicates, it's easy to sort out cause you know which ones came from your Apple Address Book.
Definitely not the most ideal solution but works for now...

  • IChat Proxy for Gmail Chat?

Is there any way for Gmail Chat to go through the systemwide proxy settings in iChat? AIM supports it, but there is no option in Gchat/Jabber.

    Use UPnP or Port Triggering.

  • Gmail chat, google voice when they hear you, you don't hear them.

    a) gmail chat, google voice
In gmail chat, google voice what might you ask your friend to try by way of getting thier gmail chat, google voice to work if you can be heard by them clearly on their iMac desktop Apple computer but you don't hear them on your iMac desktop Apple computer?... given that everything works okay like you can heari the ringing tone to connect, volume is set okay, speakers are working okay for other things but when connected you don't hear them when they hear you.
    b) What settings?
Or what gmail chat, google voice settings and Apple settings might be double checked at both ends?...

    HI,
In iChat > Preferences > Video section > Bandwidth Limit set the speed at both end as 500kbps.
This can help if one end has a much faster internet connection than the other.
It can also help where ISPs try to work against Peer-to-Peer file sharing.
Video and Audio Only chats are Peer-to-Peer and suffer when ISP slow down the connection to combat this.
It is more common in Cable connections than DSL ones due to low contention rates.

  • GMail chat stopped working in safari 5.0.3

I just started using safari for everything again, but for some reason in the past few days chat in gmail has point blanked refused to load,
I added a few extensions like adblock and image block and stuff, and I have gone through them all to see if any of these are responsible for this bug but I haven't managed to isolate the problem.
    Anyone got any ideas?
I am not back to using gmail in chrome, which for some odd reason has a tendency to go stale all the time and needs reloading, and chat seems to work fine in there...

tried it with a test account and still the same ploblem.
At this point since it's a system wide problem. You can put off troubleshooting third party add-ons.
You need to boot from your install disc, run Disk Utility. There may be errors on the startup disk that need repairing. I'm not talking about repairing permissions, I'm talking about the startup disk.
Insert your install disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
(In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first from the installer menu)
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your startup disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. Make sure there is always 15% free space.

  • Gmail Chat not working in Safari

When I go to the Gmail page, the box that usually shows up on the left hand side which lists my contacts and allows me to chat with others who are logged into Gmail doesn't show up.
If I user another browser, like Camino, it does show up.
I've looked around for a preference in Gmail to see if I can change something, but no luck, leading me to beleive it might be something wrong with Safari.
    Can anybody help?

    http://mail.google.com/mail/help/intl/en/chat.html#supportedbrowsers
"Gmail's chat features only work in Firefox and Internet Explorer. We're working on additional browser support as fast as we can."
[Camino uses the same underlying web display technology as Firefox, hence Camino working]

  • Safari and Gmail Chat

I set up my wife’s gmail account on her macbook and then we went through the idea that we could chat while I was at work (offshore). So I invited her to chat and she went through the process to be able to chat and BLANK, every time she tried to use chat nothing would happen so after many failed attempts we kind of gave up.
Anyway at work I decided to try using two PC computers and Bobs your uncle it worked, so I again asked my wife to try but BLANK so I got my wife to open Windows XP (she also has boot camp) and Bobs your uncle we can chat.
So what is the problem with Safari and Gmail?

Unfortunately now you can only get the chat working in Firefox as far as I know. You can however download Adium (http://www.adiumx.com/) and add the Google Talk account and get it running there. Hopefully a future update to Safari 3 will fix this

  • New to Safari - GMail doesn't work?

I have always used Firefox on my Mac, but I decided to try Safari a little. I use Gmail religiously, but I noticed it only displays the "basic HTML" view in Safari. When I try to enable the "standard" view mode, it doesn't work.
I have tried searching the forums but haven't found any conclusive answers. Should I just stick with Firefox or Camino instead?

Is it possible that you have JavaScript turned off in Safari? That would do it, since Standard view for Gmail requires JavaScript.
If it's on, have you tried at different times of the day, since it could be an intermittent issue? Do youu get any error messages, or messages of any kind when it won't load Standard view? Post again with more details.
