Safari gmail problems

Just started having problems with Safari v5.0.5 and my gmail web account. When I get new email i will open it. That's fine. But the email will stay as new even after I've read it or deleted it. If I open gmail with Google Chrome this doesn't happen.
Any ideas?
thx

Carolyn.
Thx for the reply!
Tried deleting the gmail cookies. No luck. Still getting this problem on and off. Happens sometimes then a few hours later gone.
Might have something to do with installing Safari 5.1 then removing it because of spinning pinwheels all the time and reinstalling Safari 5.0.5.

  • Safari/GMail problem

For the past two days, whenever I boot Safari and try to go to GMail to retrieve my email, Safari crashes and a trouble report is generated to send to Apple. Otherwise, Safari runs just fine, as it always has, and I can access GMail using Chrome.
I'm running an early 2009 24-inch iMac with 8gb of RAM and the latest version of OS X -- 10.8.5.
Is anyone else having this problem? If yes, have you figured out a solution?
    Thanks in advance.

Well, I just Reset Safari and that seemed to do the trick. Thanks for the lead!

  • Safari/Gmail problems after upgrade to 10.6.3

    Hi All,
I posted this in the Snow Leopard forum with no responses so far; it seems to specifically be a problem with Safari, since upgrading to 10.6.3, so I'm posting here also.
I did the upgrade through Software update. All seemed well until I tried logging in to my Gmail/Google account using Safari.
After entering my login info I got a redirect to a Google page telling me my browser cookie settings weren't correct and to clear the cache.
I cleared the browser cache, checked cookie settings, repaired permissions and rebooted.
Yet, I still can't login using Safari.
The login screen keeps reloading and asking for my password.
I can log in with Chrome and FireFox. And Mail seems to be working well (set up to retrieve my Gmail messages). But I need to have web access to various Google services.
Has anyone else experience this after upgrading to 10.6.3? Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks

    HI,
From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences then select the Autofill tab. Click the Edit button next to Other forms. Delete .google.com then click Done. Relaunch Safari. Try accessing Gmail. If you still have problems...
Open Keychain Access (Applications/Utilities) Select Passwords on the left then delete your Google Gmail keychain on the right. Also delete the "Safari Forms Autofill" keychain. Quit Keychain Access. Relaunch Safari. Navigate to your Gmail page, enter your username and password. Click Yes when prompted.

  • Gmail problems on Firefox

    Hi,
I recently switched from Safari to Firefox (2.0.0.14), and I'm having trouble opening my Gmail. It just keeps saying "Loading", and the bar on the bottom gets to about halfway. The other day I waited about 5 minutes for the page to open
Ironically, I switched to Firefox because some Google pages would crash (like Maps). However, I don't have a problem with my Safari Gmail.
Any help would be appreciated. Oh, I also recently added Gmail Notifier, but I don't think that's causing the problem.
    Thanks,
    Allan

    Allano,
Yes, it seems we are still developing this internet thing piecemeal... like one thing does not work for everything, but we learn to live with it, for now.
Glad you got it working better. you can even lower that Cashe to less, so that every time you logon, it will have to 'actually' use the internet to fetch the sites, rather then memory. Hope you have a high-speed service.
    Thanks for the star.

Safari Crash - Problem with doodle (planer) app  -  doodle web links cause safari to crash with a very strange message "Error - Please make sure Safari is not used in Private Modus" (translated from german) No Privat Modus buttom in ios 7 safari settings! Works fine with an older Safari Version. Web link, call doodle app.  You could see the website in the backround working but safari crashes after clicking on the error window.   Any suggestions?

    Turn off Private Browsing.
Tap "Private" on Safari Screen to disable Private Browsing. When top of screen is white, Private Browsing is off.

  • Safari & JavaScript Problems

On some websites, I cannot use scripted buttons etc. This is true in all browsers (Safari, Firefox, IE, etc.). I have no problems with my Windows machine. Is there a setting I can change or an add-in that might let me use these sites? I'm not getting any errors in Java, so I'm assuming it's a compatability issue between OSX and the Java being used. Any help would be appreciated because I now have to use my PC to access certain sites (and I have to use them for work).

This is from my similar Safari problems a few months back. It may apply to your Java problems.
I confirmed that it's my Tiger Safari failure to handle Java Applets that is giving me troubles. Java scripts are OK.
Relief, my Safari Java problem is solved. I got the clue to the cause in an Apple discussion, a chap in Germany using Panther had the identical problem.
The problem was caused by older Internet Plugins contained in my UserID>Library>Internet Plugins.
These plugins take priority over the Internet Plugins contained in HD>Library>Internet Plugins.
So removing the duplicate older Internet Plugins from UserID>Library>Internet Plugins corrected the Java applet problem. I had more duplicate Plugins there than the Java ones.
This happened because when doing a clean install I selected to copy over my UserID from the previous Jaguar system, a logical thing to do to carry my files and settings forward.
But bringing forward the Internet Plugin Folder is obviously a big problem for those bringing forward their UserID when installing MacOS X.
Here is a very good site to test your browsers handling of Java Scripts and Applets.

  • Safari/DSL Problem

    Safari/DSL Problem
I’m having a problem with my home DSL network when I hookup a 5.8 GHz digital cordless phone/answering system. Safari will not pull up my home page when I plug in the answering system my SBC DSL network stops functioning. My Mac network consists of an E-Mac running OS 10.3.9 hard wired thru Ethernet cable to an Asante FR1004 Internet router. Also connected to the Asante Router is the Apple Airport Extreme Base Station. The Asante Router is hooked up to the SBC to Speedstream 5100 Ethernet ADSL Modem, which is hard wired to the phone line. I have 3 phones hooked to the phone line each phone has a DSL Filter model Z-330P2J. Any would be appreciated.

Hi ccrushe, Welcome to Apple's Users Help Users Forums.
1] The answering system must have a DSL Filter on it.
2] Move the answering system to a different room, ie, away from the computer.
Try BBR, Broadband Reports / SBC general Forum, or ATM = All Things Mac.
    Good Luck. JP

  • Safari and Gmail Problem

I recently purchased an iMac, and have Leopard installed. I created separate accounts for my family members on the computer before realizing that Gmail only worked on the administrator account. On every other account when I attemtped to view Gmail, the browser showed this error message:
Safari can’t open the page “http://mail.google.com/mail?hl=en&tab=wm” because it could not connect to the server “mail.google.com”.
I have Safari 3.0.4 and am baffled at why Gmail only works on the administrator account.
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

I had partial success with this. In the Parental Controls pane, you can add sites that are explicitly allowed. So I added
    http://mail.google.com
and later another Google site (don't recall the URL) that was also claimed to be unreachable. That enabled Gmail to be read. However, when we tried sending a message, Gmail claimed to be suffering "technical problems". Maybe some other site needs to be added to the list.

  • GMail problems with Safari

    Greetings.
GMail won't address properly in Safari (it's fine in Firefox). Address autofill doesn't work; bcc link disappears when selected and no box appears; ditto for cc. I understand I may solve the problem by trashing the plist; however, I don't know how to get to Library under my user name in Lion.
    Assistance appreciated.

I don't know how to get to Library under my user name in Lion.
Go to ~/Library/Preferences. Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
Quit then relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, move the .plist file to the Trash.
~ (Tilde) character represents your Home folder.
For LIon:   To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library
When you have problems wtih Safari "autofill" go to Safari > Preferences then select the Autofill tab. Make sure:  Using info from my Address Book card is selected.
Jerry...  are you aware you can avoid having to use web based email via a browser? You can setup your Gmail account using the Mac Mail app that's pre installed on your Mac.
Launch Mail  (The icon is in your Dock) then from the menu bar (top of your screen) click Mail > Preferences then select the Accounts tab then the Account Information tab.
    Click: +
Enter your name, Gmail user name and password the click Create.
If you have unread mail messages you'll see a red bade on the Mail icon in the Dock. Same for creating a new mail message.
No more having to access your Gmail via a browser.

  • Gmail problem with Safari

When I use Gmail in Safari and try to attach a file, I often have to click the attach button several times before the file box opens.  Has anyone else had that problem and if so, any resolution?  Thanks,

    Hi
Do you have SpeedDownload or iGetter installed in your system? If so, either uninstall or upgrade to a Safari 4 compatible version.

  • Safari 5 problems with Gmail

I have notice that since I upgrade to Safari 5, the Gmail's chat connection keeps dropping, and re connecting every 5 seconds. It is very annoying and makes the chat feature useless.
I have no problem using Chrome and Firefox.
    Any thoughts on this?

    Same here. :s
Not only Gmail, a lot of sites malfunction with Safari 5. Like National Geographic (http://www.nationalgeographic.com/) - click on any of the Editor's pick in the middle of the site. It loads to about 80% and then redirects back to the main site.

  • Safari GMail ViewState problem

I have an application which sends out email to subscriber and users can click on the link within email to get into the web application. I am facing a weird problem that if a user clicks the link to my app from GMail (Mac/Safari), it doesn’t work from second page onwards. It works if you cut and paste URL in Safari window. All other combination works: Mac/Firefox/Gmail, Mac/Safari/Hotmail, Windows OS all combinations. I realized that in the case where it is failing, Safari is sending out stale viewstate (one from the very first page), so on second page even though it got a new viewstate, while submitting it sends out stale viewstate and definitely the server throws error. Try creating the 3 web pages as shown below and then send an email to some gmail account with link to any of these pages. (e.g. www.mysite.com/safariissue/webpage1.aspx ). On submitting the second page WebForm2.aspx, Safari sends out viewstate of WebForm1.aspx. Any help to resolve the issue is appreciated.

  • Safari has problem downloading gmail attachment with chinese filenames

When using safari download attachments in gmail, the downloaded filenames are corrupted. all Chinese characters changed to ?
    For example ???.doc

Same issue here! Unsolved after YEARS of this issue.
I dig through the downloads folder and paste a copied file name at least 15 times a day.
And Mountain Lion was supposed to be a big push for Chinese language users. Still a fail.
Really want to be a Safari supporter - would love to see this solved, Apple.

  • Safari webpage problems?

lately, safari has had problems loading certain sites ( 790theticket.com , and the standard view of gmail are 2 examples) yet those sites open in firefox. Im not sure if its a flash player problem... or something wrong with safari?

its hard to explain, but certain things will not load.. like on 790theticket.com, the front of the page that has 6 things rotating, does not appear..gmail will not load the standard view, only the html version... cnnsi.com will not load the "main story" with the picture, only the side items.. i have a feeling it has something to do with flash player or something like that.. the only thing that gives me pause is that it works on firefox, just not on safari
