Safari + Gmail

Just stopped working today, it shows a "Loading ..." message on the top left and the page finishes loading (the stop button becomes reload).
Works fine in Camino and Firefox ...
Safari prefs were deleted but nothing changed. Saft was disabled with no changes either.
*Edit to add that I'm running Safari 2.03
Rev D PB 12   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Seems to be a Javascript problem of some sort, I can access Gmail in HTML view.
Checked my other 2 Gmail accounts and they loaded fine. Looks like it's a problem on Google's side?
Will wait until the end of the day to see what happens I guess.

  • New to Safari - GMail doesn't work?

I have always used Firefox on my Mac, but I decided to try Safari a little. I use Gmail religiously, but I noticed it only displays the "basic HTML" view in Safari. When I try to enable the "standard" view mode, it doesn't work.
I have tried searching the forums but haven't found any conclusive answers. Should I just stick with Firefox or Camino instead?

Is it possible that you have JavaScript turned off in Safari? That would do it, since Standard view for Gmail requires JavaScript.
If it's on, have you tried at different times of the day, since it could be an intermittent issue? Do youu get any error messages, or messages of any kind when it won't load Standard view? Post again with more details.

  • Safari gmail images

    I'm running OS X 10.8.2 and Safari 6.0.1
There appears to be a problem with Safari 6.0.1 displaying inline images. I notice this while using gmail's "canned email" feature where the inline images in the canned email is not displayed properly.
    Anyone else run into this?

I am having the similar issue and it only started on 24th too, and I am also Dublin based.
My issue is specifiaclly related to accessing google services.
-I can't acess my google analytics account for my website, the page just appears as blank after the login screen.
-I can't use google maps if I am logged into my google account.  It is fine if I am not logged in.
-I can't access my google+ account at all - I get the message that 'Safari can't establish a secure connection to plus.google.com'
-I can access my gmail but a lot of the buttons on the gmail page are blank or have a blue question mark, but do show the function when hover over and seem to work when pressed.
I have cleared cache and cookies and reset safari but no luck. I tried changing the MTU to 1300 and 1380 as suggested by various online forums but no change.
I have a PC running safari from same Wifi connection and everything is working perfectly on it.
    Any suggestions anyone????

  • Safari: gmail attachments

I notice that the new Safari has started not processing attachments to gmail email as well as it used to. I can attach one picture/file but not more than one and it then just continues with a message saying 'working' whilst it prepares to send the file, sending happens quickly, but it does something to the pic before it is ready normally. Anyway because of this I have to now open Firefox if I want to send attachments on my gmail. Is this a glitch on this version?

your prompt on mail urged me to have another go and setting Mail up, as I didn't know how to configure it, eventually I found the settings for gmail and it's now works well. But still Safari is not working as well as it should. On gmail docs it says that my word doc cannot be saved and is full, but on firefox this isn't the case and it continues to display the updates. So something is a bit odd about Safari currently. Has anyone else found this?

  • Safari/GMail problem

For the past two days, whenever I boot Safari and try to go to GMail to retrieve my email, Safari crashes and a trouble report is generated to send to Apple. Otherwise, Safari runs just fine, as it always has, and I can access GMail using Chrome.
I'm running an early 2009 24-inch iMac with 8gb of RAM and the latest version of OS X -- 10.8.5.
Is anyone else having this problem? If yes, have you figured out a solution?
    Thanks in advance.

Well, I just Reset Safari and that seemed to do the trick. Thanks for the lead!

  • Safari gmail problems

Just started having problems with Safari v5.0.5 and my gmail web account. When I get new email i will open it. That's fine. But the email will stay as new even after I've read it or deleted it. If I open gmail with Google Chrome this doesn't happen.
    Any ideas?
    thx

    Carolyn.
    Thx for the reply!
Tried deleting the gmail cookies. No luck. Still getting this problem on and off. Happens sometimes then a few hours later gone.
Might have something to do with installing Safari 5.1 then removing it because of spinning pinwheels all the time and reinstalling Safari 5.0.5.

  • Safari, Gmail and Panera Bread

I am at Panera Bread, Perimeter this morning attempting to use Safari and Gmail. I am trying to respond to an email message. The sending button just stays on the screen. I have a hard time believing that each Atlanta Panera network is dysfunctional and tainted.

You might want to check with your ISP on this. Usually the problem is that the ISP wants you to use a different outgoing mail server when you are using a different internet provider. Foe example, I have EarthLink, but the free internet at the motels I sometimes stay at do not use EarthLink. So I have to put a different number in for the outgoing mail server at that location and change it back later. I understand this has to do with preventing spam. Usually the ISP support site will have this information for you.
    Good luck!

  • Safari / Gmail crash

    Hi there,
Bit of an odd problem, but everytime I load Gmail on Safari it crashes (ie program not responding) - this is very odd, because at home this does not happen.
    Computer with Safari crashing is:
    Mac Pro 2.66 / 5gb Ram / 10.4.9
Computer with Safari NOT crashing is:
    Mac Mini 1.66 / 512mb Ram / 10.4.9
Any advice on how to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated!
Firefox / Camino do not suffer from this problem, however, I prefer Safari!
    Thanks,
    Jack

    Hi jack,
This is going to be along troubleshooting issue but hang in there.
Create a test account on the computer you are using. Log into the test account and see if the same issue is occuring.
If it doesn't occur within the other account you want to look at logging back into your account then going to ~library/caches/safari (~ indicates home directory) and dragging the safari folder to the desktop. Also do the same for ~library/preferences (drag to desktop, just the entire preferences folder). Log out, then log back in, see if this works. Fingers crossed it does.
If the new test account doesn't work we know we are looking at a system issue meaning there is an issue with the disk integrity or just with safari and the plugins safari uses.
Boot to install disc - utilites - disk util - mac hd - verify disk then repair if necessary
If it doesn't pick up any errors you may want to reinstall safari off the install disc within the os (optional install - select just safari then install).
A question you may want to ask is whether this was happening before the 10.4.9 update as i know there are certain issues after installing .9 update.
Please feel free to post back if any more queries
    Cheers,

  • Safari gmail support gets worse every revision

gmail is rapidly becoming the email program of choice for many people. i find it incredibly arrogant of the safari development team that existing issues are not only blatantly ignored, but the behaviour of the browser is actually getting worse with every new revision.
    * gmail scrolling problem is still not fixed (old issue)
in gmail, in conversation view, if you scroll down long conversations that are expanded, either the scrollbar graphic is corrupt, or specific parts of the screen are redrawn improperly. this problem probably occurs on other websites as well. it has been occuring since tiger was released, and probably even before that.
    * twofinger scroll on pbook trackpad within iframes does not work anymore. (new issue in 10.4.4)
no matter if an iframe has focus, the method of scrolling the window with the trackpad on newer powerbooks only scrolls the entire window, not the window that has focus.
    * enter email address in gmail bar and press tab functionality is broken. (new issue in 10.4.4)
just enter a few characters of a name in the gmail address bar to see suggestions. press tab and it autocompletes. in previous versions of gmail, you would press tab again to move to the next field (subject line). in this version of safari, it repeats the emailaddress.
There is NO excuse not to fix this.

    Tom and others,
The issues that Safari is having with gmail (and not the other way round) are documented pretty well in the Safari bug tracking system already. Most, if not all of them are graphical errors that reside in Safari itself, and NOT in the way Safari parses the pages. If the code on a webpage breaks a scrollbar into two or more parts, visually, that means the application that parses the html/javascript is broken, not the html/javascript itself. Apple is well aware of this problem, but apparently doesn't really care too much about it.
Gmail is not incompatible with Safari. On the contrary: it runs quite fine. We should be happy that Google goes through the effort of producing Mac compatible versions of their code: most of the web2.0 hype companies don't care. They put up signs saying 'osx version soon' on their site, because nowadays it's good manners to show your love for OSX. Usually it's nothing more than flirting, though. There is, however, no worldwide conspiracy against Macintosh, as you seem to imply in your message.
Safari just has a few visual rendering errors when displaying the gmail site that are annoying and appear to be part of the browser's inner code. The errors have been around for many revisions, and with recent new revisions, they actually got worse. The gmail code hasn't changed, it's the Safari support for gmail that got worse.
I was just frustrated with that, because I love Mac and OSX, and I love gmail, and hate to see a winning combination work together poorly.

  • Safari & Gmail Chat

Gmail added a new feature recently which lets you chat with other gmail users who are on, and log your chats. Unfortunately, this does not work in Safari. Anyone have any idea why, is it just something Apple needs to update?
On Firefox the new window appears and it works just fine, but try in Safari and it just doesn't appear.

    is it just something Apple
    needs to update?
You might want to ask Gmail why, when they launch something new, they are unwilling to make it usable on Safari, which has been around for years now already.

  • Safari/Gmail problems after upgrade to 10.6.3

    Hi All,
I posted this in the Snow Leopard forum with no responses so far; it seems to specifically be a problem with Safari, since upgrading to 10.6.3, so I'm posting here also.
I did the upgrade through Software update. All seemed well until I tried logging in to my Gmail/Google account using Safari.
After entering my login info I got a redirect to a Google page telling me my browser cookie settings weren't correct and to clear the cache.
I cleared the browser cache, checked cookie settings, repaired permissions and rebooted.
Yet, I still can't login using Safari.
The login screen keeps reloading and asking for my password.
I can log in with Chrome and FireFox. And Mail seems to be working well (set up to retrieve my Gmail messages). But I need to have web access to various Google services.
Has anyone else experience this after upgrading to 10.6.3? Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks

    HI,
From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences then select the Autofill tab. Click the Edit button next to Other forms. Delete .google.com then click Done. Relaunch Safari. Try accessing Gmail. If you still have problems...
Open Keychain Access (Applications/Utilities) Select Passwords on the left then delete your Google Gmail keychain on the right. Also delete the "Safari Forms Autofill" keychain. Quit Keychain Access. Relaunch Safari. Navigate to your Gmail page, enter your username and password. Click Yes when prompted.

  • Safari/gmail error with an internet plug-in

After a recent security update have been getting a box indicating error with an internet plug-in. This ouccurs with gmail "attempted to load an internet plug-in, but a plug-in error occurred." Close the box and e-mail seems to work fine. Same issue with websites and moving to different pages within the sites. Plug-in error, but afer closing the box can use the page. Each change to another page results in the pop-up error box.

What's the plug-in that's being requested, and what's the text of the error message you're receiving?
Which version of OS X or OS X Server are you working with?
Which version of Safari, if that's the browser you're using?
Strictly as a guess and as two products that have security issues and updates in recent times, maybe there's a down-revision version of Adobe Flash or of Oracle Java around?  Updates to those can be required.

  • Safari GMail ViewState problem

I have an application which sends out email to subscriber and users can click on the link within email to get into the web application. I am facing a weird problem that if a user clicks the link to my app from GMail (Mac/Safari), it doesn’t work from second page onwards. It works if you cut and paste URL in Safari window. All other combination works: Mac/Firefox/Gmail, Mac/Safari/Hotmail, Windows OS all combinations. I realized that in the case where it is failing, Safari is sending out stale viewstate (one from the very first page), so on second page even though it got a new viewstate, while submitting it sends out stale viewstate and definitely the server throws error. Try creating the 3 web pages as shown below and then send an email to some gmail account with link to any of these pages. (e.g. www.mysite.com/safariissue/webpage1.aspx ). On submitting the second page WebForm2.aspx, Safari sends out viewstate of WebForm1.aspx. Any help to resolve the issue is appreciated.

  • How do I copy and paste a hyper link to an email in safari/gmail

how do I copy and paste a hyper link to an email

If you mean you want to include a link to a Web site in an email you are about to send,
In Safari, go to the web site you want to send a link for.
Triple-click on the Address box at the top of the screen to select it.
Choose Copy from the Edit menu.
Change to the email screen and place the cursor where you want your hyperlink.
Choose Paste from the Edit menu.
If you are cautious, send that email to yourself first.
When you get your copy, click on the link to see if it takes you to the right place.
If that works, then send again to the person you intended.
