Safari got slower...:(

I'm using safari 5.1.
My safari got slow nowadays I'm not sure after what it got slow.
The thing is it didn't get slow in browsing speed..
some examples I've experienced :
1.I create a new tab, it opens instantly. But if I move my mouse to the previous tab and click it takes a second gap before it opens, that is, if there are several tabs and I move between tabs using my mouse by clicking it takes time.
2.Once I happened to type a mail in gmail. When i typed something, I was written instantly but if I use mouse or arrow keys to move somewhere to edit, the insertion key freezes and while in that frozen condition if I type something the insertion key comes and types what I type instantly.
This problem doesn't seem to be like problems with low memory..:(
Can anyone help me out...:(
Thanks a lot in advance...:)

Right or control click your MacintoshHD icon on your desktop then click Get Info.
See:  Capacity & Available.
Make sure there is a minimum of 15% free disk space. Not enough disk space can slow apps down.
From your Safari menu bar click Safari / Reset Safari.
Select the top 7 buttons, click Reset.
Quit then relaunch Safari. See if that speeds things up a bit.

  • Has safari got slower?

    Hi
I have a 2011 MBA. Is it me though, or has safari 5.1.3 gone a lot slower, these days on lion os x.
I have a feeling it, has, i tend to get the beach ball a lot more than often. Thinking of switching browers, chrome does not seem so bad. What do other people think?
p.s before anyone asks, its not my internet connection. I am currently getting 5.6mb download speeds.
also pages refreshing seems slow too.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
As Guest, launch the application(s) and test. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on some Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.) Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Why is my mac's battery life decreased and got slower after upgrading to lion?

    Thank you for helping,
I am using MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010) and beginning of this summer I upgraded it from snow leopard to lion (from apple store). After installation my mac got slower,it consumes the battery very rapidly and starting time increased. I searched the reason on the net and this time I did a clean installation. I but the problem insisted. last week i updated to 10.7.5. this time i see that coloured spinning wheel even i logging in. I did all the updates and battery calibration as mentioned in apple support communities but nothing have changed. I don't use any grafic programs etc. I only use safari, firefox, iphoto, iwork and microsoft office for mac. My english and my computer knowledge is not very good. So, if you answer my problem please will you explain as much as simple.
    Thanks anyway.

    A couple of things...
...first, you might want to make certain that your internal drive is selected as the Startup Disk under System Preferences. If it's not, this can sometimes lead to a problem of your MBP 'searching' for a boot drive at startup. Second, you might want to read ds store's article - Why is my computer slow? A very handy reference guide with some good tips.
As to your decrease in battery life - that has been reported by some users as a problem with both Lion and Mountain Lion. See the "More Like This" to the right of this page.
Can't offer any real solutions - read Mr. store's article and see if you can find anything that helps. You might also want to download the free "Battery Health" from the App Store and keep an eye on your battery when you're using it.

  • Safari very slow to open, then freezes

Safari takes about 2 minutes to open when I open it for the first time. After that, it is still slow. In fact, sometimes it will freeze and take a couple of minutes to unfreeze on its own. I also have Quicktime on my Windows XP computer and it has been suggested that in the Mac, the Quicktime plugins caused the problem with the delays. Assuming this may be correct, it shows eight plugins labeled "npqtplugin2.dll", "npqtplugin3.dll" etc. through number 8 in the program files. If I wanted to disable these which would I work with? Also, should this have this many?
I have tried to clean out the computer and disable applications (even the virus protection) and have reinstalled Safari a couple of times, but the delays were still there. I do use Java 6. I am open to any suggestions to solve this delay problem.
    Thanks

I have an issue with safari. At first it was fast to boot up. Then over the months it got slower and slower until just recently it would not boot up at all. When you click on the icon the hard drive acivity light comes on and stays on and the drive runs continuously but nothing ever boots up. The computer has to be restarted to get the drive to stop and behave normally. All other software runs normally, including Itunes. I have made sure I have all of the latest updates for both Apple and Windows. I have uninstalled safari and reloaded from the web site but it does exactly the same thing...it makes my hard drive run but that is it. Memory? I run other very large applications including drafting/rendering/animation and mech/elect cad programs with no such issues. Apple tech support won't respond to e-mails....
    Any suggestions?

  • Safari very slow/stuck...but Camino fast!

This is something that only happens at work.
Safari is extremely slow since 10.4.4 or so. It would start loading pages, then get "stuck" and either never finish loading or finish after a long time.
I have tried all the various things suggested in other threads, like:
    - deleting cache, history, and resetting
    - deleting the icons folder
    - re-installing 10.4.5. combo update
    - fixing permissions
    - disabling JavaScript
    None of these have worked.
Now, it is true that the IT staff at work are a bunch of incompetent idiots, BUT the thing that really irks me is that Camino works perfectly!
I am on a static IP with the correct DNS servers entered in the Network TCP/IP configuration.
Any ideas? This is driving me crazy. I have switched to Camino.

Yes I have done all the suggested push ups and conditioning as suggested by Apple, plus the additional steps listed by Davide; but Safari is like stuck in mud.
I have found that if I keep hitting the return key the blue bar goes a little further each time, but this is not a guaranteed way to complete the page.
This has happened after 10.4.5 upgade Ran OK for a few days then the Safari got stuck.
Really frustrating as I have kept this machine clean and mean with Apple and Major brand software, nothing new in a few months but looks like I am going to expand my horizons, if I want to search for the info I need.
Hope they fix this one quickly

  • Ipad 4 retina display is slow after iOS 8, also upgrade the the iOS 8.0.1 i think and safari is slow, animations are slow, and i can't restore it to iOS 7, there it was great.

ipad 4 retina display is slow after iOS 8, also upgrade to iOS 8.0.1 i think and safari is slow, animations are slow, and i can't restore it to iOS 7, there it was great. i mean its like my iphone 4 with iOS 7 in its best days. i hope no to get stuck again, i mean please let me go to the iOS 7)).

Upgraded my ipad4 from ios6 to iOS 8 because the new WSJ app required it. HUGE MISTAKE!!!!!!! I can maybe understand some apps being slower but not Safari or Chrome. Apple must be throttling back the ipad4 processor even more with ios8 to force an upgrade to the next gen iPad whenever it arrives.

  • Safari is slow to open and close. It also slows down other apps while running. Should I reload safari and if so, how do I do so?

Safari is slow to open and close. It also slows down other apps while it is running. How can I resolve this issue?

From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the malfunctioning extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. That will revert its settings to the defaults.
If there's no improvement, continue as follows.
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    and confirm. Test.

  • When i updated OS X update to 10. 10.2 and iTunes to 12.1 and restarted my mac, safari got messed up

I updated my OS X and iTunes today and when I restarted my mac, safari got messed up. No matter how many times I change the preference of the new windows and tabs to favorites and remove the homepage site, it always get back to what it was-- homepage for both and search-quick.com for the homepage site. I can't open a new tab/window with the favorite--and it's very annoying since it opens with the search-quick.com. I've never installed search quick program, and I can't get rid of it. On the preference, the google is set to my search engine but whenever I search something it uses that search quick site. I don't know how to get rid of it and I want to remove it so bad. The biggest issue is whatever I click, the useless ads (mackeeper, justcloud, seniorsoulmates, McAfee, etc) keeps popping up on the new tabs. Literally, it pops up whenever I click something. It's driving me crazy- what should I do?

Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Safari in slow motion?

I use Safari 5.06 and have a 60/60 Mbps line. When I start Safari I usually get my full 60/60 speed, but if I open three or four more windows, everything slows down to half speed or worse. Why? (I do understand that secure lines SSL etc. pages with much content like video etc, will take more bandwith but this is not an issue here)
All help and suggestions is greatly appreciated!

If Safari is getting very slow:
(Presumably you regularly empty your Safari cache by deleting the following file:  Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/cache.db and also clear your History)
Adding Open DNS codes to your Network Preferences, should give good results in terms of speed-up as well as added security:
If you are using a single computer: Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu, and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' add the following two numbers:  208.67.222.222 208.67.220.220  (You can also enter them if you click on Advanced and then DNS)
Sometimes reversing the order of the DNS numbers can be beneficial in cases where there is a long delay before web pages start to load, and then suddenly load at normal speed:  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2296
If your computer is part of a network: please refer to this page: http://www.opendns.com/start/best_practices/#your_network and follow the advice given.
If you use a Router, make sure it has the latest firmware installed.
One reason for a slowness in page loading may be the 'DNS Pre-fetching' feature of Safari 5.x as is described here:  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3408?viewlocale=en_US
You can cancel DNS pre-fetching by going to Terminal and typing:
defaults write com.apple.safari WebKitDNSPrefetchingEnabled -boolean false
You have to restart Safari for it to take effect.
If Safari seems to hang for ages:
If you have a lot of tabs open and/or a lot of pages running Flash, Safari can sometimes 'hang', requiring a restart of Safari. This can often be inconvenient, and as it is rarely Safari itself that is hanging but merely one of its plug-ins, usually Flash, there is a way using Terminal to restart the plug-ins (without restarting Safari and losing your tabs) by quitting the WebPluginHost process:
Open the Terminal from the Utilities folder in /Applications and type  killall -9 WebKitPluginHost
Note that this command kills all Safari plug-ins, not just Flash. All plug-ins should start back up when you reload the page. Then go back to Safari and refresh any pages that were using the Flash plug-in. This also fixes the Beachball of Death. Try this whenever Safari gets slow or freezes. The latest versions of Flash 10.1 and later appear to have improved the situation somewhat, but haven't completed eliminated it.

  • Why is my Safari so slow

I have recently upgraded to Tiger. Since doing so, web pages loading on Safari have slowed down drastically. Navigating from one web page to another has become painfully slow whereas it was almost instant previously (we have an excellent broadband service).
    I run a 17 inch G4 Powerbook with 1 GB RAM.
Can I do anything to speed up my web access?

AxL wrote: "Then you can of course "Reset Safari" (in the Safari menu). This will get rid of all old caches that you don't use/visit anymore."That's dangerous advice.
Do not use "Reset Safari" unless you are prepared to lose all Internet passwords saved in your keychain.
"Reset Safari" is intended for clearing personal information that may have been saved while using a public Internet terminal running Safari. While it can be used as a Safari troubleshooting action of last resort, it was not designed with that intent and one should backup their keychain first. See the AppleCare Knowledge Base document “Safari 2.0 Help: Resetting Safari.” Unfortunately, Reset Safari cannot be undone.
Two other ways to speed up Safari:
    • Empty it's cache: Command-Option-E.
    • Quit and relaunch it if you've had it open for several days and visited many sites.
    Good luck!

  • Why is safari so slow

This is my first time using a mac...i love the computer but this safari is so slow. the blue bar is taking forever to fill up and sometimes it gets stuck. i've tried opera and firefox but both seem much slower than my windows pc. is it just me or is this a common problem and are there any remedies?

I'm assuming that when you say Safari is slow, you have tried another browser like FireFox... If you haven't that may be worth a try just to be sure its not a network issue. (Highly recommend FireFox)
After only a week I wouldn't think cache or Java would be a problem, but here's a few things worth trying...
Clear Safari Cache: Pull down the Safari menu -> Select: Empty Cache
Clear Cookies: Safari -> Preferences -> Security - > show cookies - Clear all
You can also Reset Safari: Safari -> Reset Safari (this will remove history, auto fill info, basically everything.
Clear the Java cache, open Finder, go to Applications -> Utilities -> Java
In the Java folder there are normally two Java Apps: "Java 1.4.2 Plugin Settings.app" and "Java 1.3.1 Plugin Settings.app" .
Quit Safari, and Run (double click) each one.
In Java 1.4.2 you should see a "Cache" tab and or a "Clear" button. In Java 1.3.1 you will see a Cache tab and a "Clear JAR Cache button.

  • Safari too slow - help finding a bug?

    Hi all,
Sorry for such a noob question, this is a problem I never have myself. My wife's iMac (10.4) is running Safari extremely slow. This occurred when we were out of town and our inlaws were house-sitting.
My inlaws have been known to (inadvertently) change settings and download things they should not. (Flash players or radio listening programs, etc). I'm betting something similar happened, but couldn't find anything in the surfing history since it was too much to go through. Other ideas?
Ran Onyx and all that is clean, btw. I've never needed any other anti-malware software myself...
(As a sidenote, would upgrading to 10.5 make a difference?) I have an unopened copy of Leopard - Server (I don't need the server part) at my disposal. What needs to happen for that?
    Thanks so much,
    -josh

    HI,
Try uninstalling then reinstalling a new copy of the Adobe Flash Player plugin.
How to Uninstall Flash plug in
How to reinstall Flash plug in
    Try Safari maintenance also.

From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache.
When you are done with that...

from the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Mac OS: Web Browser Quits Unexpectedly or Stops Responding
Safari add-ons can cause performance issues or other situations

Repair disk permissions:

Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
*As for Leopard... minimum requirements are as follows:*
an Intel processor or a PowerPC G4 or G5 processor
    a DVD drive
    built-in FireWire
at least 256 MB of RAM for a PowerPC based Mac, and 512 MB for an Intel-based Mac
a built-in display or a display connected to an Apple-supplied video card supported by your computer
at least 6 GB of disk space available, or 8 GB if you install the developer tools
Upgrading from one Mac OS X to another does not necessarily "fix" bugs. It's better to trouble shoot and make sure the drive is ok before upgarding. You can boot from the install disk that came with the iMac to do that.
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
*(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)*
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window. Where you see Capacity and Available. *Make sure there is always 10% to 15% free disk space*
    As for Leopard Server:
Mac OS X Server is a UNIX server operating system from Apple. The platform is based on the same architecture as Mac OS X, but includes additional services, applications, and administration tools for managing users and services and for deploying servers and clients. The server operating system is included on Xserve, a rack mount server designed by Apple. It is also available preinstalled on the Mac mini and Mac Pro and is sold separately for use on any Macintosh computer meeting its minimum requirements. *Mac OS X Server is commonly found in small business, education, and large enterprise organizations.*

  • Safari 6 Slow PDF Scroll and Behavior !!!!

    ! Hi !
I've just upgraded from Lion to ML and noticed something wierd.  If I open a pdf link in Safari 6, and the embedded PDF viewer starts, safari becomes Slow scrolling the PDF and sometimes Stops for 2 pr 3 seconds.
Is Anyone having the same problem?
    Can someone help me?
    Best Regards,
    Stejimenez

Just adding my $.02 here as well, Safari Version 6.0 (8536.25) seems buggy, for example, right now none of my keyboard shortcuts work, changing tabs, back, or the mouse gestures like back or scrolling do not work.
    for clairfication I'm on a Macbook Pro 17 OS X 10.8 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 8GB 1067 MHz DDR3.
I use the following key commands in chrome and used to use them in Safari before Mountain Lion upgrade:
⌘ ←  to go back (doesn't work in Safari 6.0)
⌘⌥← (or ⌘⌥→) to switch tabs (doesn't work in Safari 6.0)
I use the following gestures in chrome and used to use them in Safari before Mountain Lion upgrade:
two-finger vertical swipe to scroll (doesn't work in Safari 6.0)
three-finger horzontal swipe to the left to go back (doesn't work in Safari 6.0)
Through further testing I think it's site specific, gestures do not work while on stackoverflow or facebook, but do work on w3cschools and wordpress.org -- huh.
