Safari Hanging (much like Explorer in Windows) -- What's up?

Just recently I am noticing Safari is stalling downloading pages such as Yahoo mail, and others. Often, the thing that gets it moving forward again is when you hit the command button (like Check mail) again.
I've followed all the stuff for speeding up Safari, but no luck. In reading other posts, it sounds like others are seeing the same problem (perhaps describing it a bit differently).
Anyone know what's going on? Is there an easy solution?

It is possible that this issue had to do with the websites themselves not being well formed (THOUGH I DO NOT KNOW THIS FOR A FACT).
For instance, if the website uses Javascript that makes httprequest calls (used in AJAX websites like maps.google.com) or if the website has a <table> without a closing </table> tag or no </body> tag then Safari may be expecting more data from the website that will never come.
These are my supositions and I don't know of a resolution. You can also try FireFox for OS X (www.getfirefox.com)

No worries have sorted it now...you need to go to;
System Prefences-->General-->Untick the box which says 'Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps' (A couple of lines from the bottom)
And then most importantly restart the mac. It was this last step I never did and thats why I couldn't get it to stop this unwanted behaviour.

Arch hangs/freezezs like Windows XP

i have installed Arch i686 on my AMD64 without any trouble. then i did "pacman -Syu" and read all the output/messages after installation and rebooted. no problems. sometimes Arch hangs/freezez like Windows . then it stops responding to any action i take, the only option is to manual reboot from Cabinet button :-(
e.g. i give it a command "ls" and hit Enter then it just hangs in there at command line. this i not specifically related to "ls", sometimes it hangs while i am trying to login. i login my name and Enter and it hangs/freezes like if waiting for some more input. one more thing i have noticed is, then i can go to another tty using "C-A-F2/F3/Fx" and when i try to login there, it hangs there too. it means whenever it hangs then all ttys get into the problem. i have already installed Arch from this this CD 2 times earlier without any problem.
i tried to install CRUX but i get a message, something like this, during installation. i posted it because i thought, it would help in solving the problem:

I couldn't see any reason why it would be bad for my particular macbook, and it downloaded without a problem.

In what way is it terrible? Mountain Lion is pretty stable. If you are having problems, most likely they are unique to your particular system and can be fixed. If you don't like some of the new features, that does not constitute reason for a refund.
If that does not suit you, you will have to discuss a refund with Apple, as they are the only ones who can say. Note that the App Store terms do say that all sales are final, so you are not guaranteed a refund, especially since whatever problems you had are not due to defective software.

Oops - for some reason, this problem now seems to have gone away. May have had something to do with Flash. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

This is called autocomplete. Please read the article [[Form autocomplete entries are not saved]], as it should solve the problem.

Go to your contacts, click add field, select birthday, and put in their birthday.
Then, go into settings --> mail, contacts, calendars --> scroll down to calendars --> default alert times --> and choose what alert time you want for birthdays.

Safari 5.1 (7534.50) [for Windows] is not updating read RSS item counts

I've just upgraded to Safari 5.1 (7534.50) [for Windows]. I've noticed that the RSS new item indicator counts are not being decremented after I open the RSS page for that item. Are others experiencing this problem?
I went so far as to create a new addition of an RSS entry, it indicated unread items. After visiting the RSS aggregator page the count does not go to zero as it has been prior to installing this new version.
Any suggestions on what to look at to fix this, or is this truly a bug in this new version?

well - i serious does not understand why apple did this. RSS broken, removing single cookies is not longer possible - except you visit the page and go in developer window. these two functions are very important for me, and maybe for other devlopers too - anyway ... i love the safari, because it is one of the fastest and css conformest (:-) browser. but step back one version is NOT an option ! I don't see that these things coming back, or getting fixed in short way, steping back and stay on old browser is a no go for me (bugs, injections, bla)
so i decide somedays ago to migrate anything to firefox 5. using tons of addons to bring back a bit confortability. i try meanwhile 4 external rss reader, and lol all what i have to say is - forgot all external rss readers - they are crap - do not waste time to find a replacement like safari. now i have firefox 5 with sage (this is not bad - some issues - but ok - updates only on click (bad) - and does not mark read after left (bad) - but in total better than a constant not updating counter), rightbar, adblock, status4ever, and much more. And it is ok ... i have a fast PC so idk speed at all :-) FF and Safari are different !! But after 3 days of usage the differences getting less and less. Well the point is - i browser websites - no matter what browser i really use ... (thinking like that makes easier for you to switch - haha - troll-my-self - but it works)
PS: this is just my personally - that looks like it would fit for me - doesnt means it fits for you too

Safari hangs up after five or six different websites...

Safari on my Air pulls up five or six websites fine and then just hangs up. Works fine on my office network but not on my home network. Doesn't appear to be the router becuase my windows machine still pulls sites up fine. Limited success renewing the dhcp lease. Rebooting works pretty much all the time and with the Air it's realy fast but that doesn't seem like a fix to me.

I can relate to you and so can many others. Safari 4 for me hangs for a long time (a minute or more) on loading some sites. I have tried all the basic fixes like uninstalling plugins, clearing and resetting Safari. Repairing permissions. I even did a clean install of Snow Leopard. So I am convinced of a network issue with SL and/Or a issue with Safari. Sounds like if people using other OS like Leopard that it might be more of a Safari issue. I wish I had a solution but so far things I have tried have not been helpful.

Classic JVM hangs when running Tomcat as Windows Service

Hi!
I am running a Tomcat 3.2.4 application, written with Java 1.3.1_01.
To run it as a Windows Service (W2000), I am using a slightly altered version of JavaService, which works fine so far: I can use both the "hotspot" and the "server" JVM's (by selecting the jvm.dll from the respective subfolder of the JDK/jre/bin folder).
However, when I try to run the same application with the "classic" JVM, the service starts, inside of it Tomcat starts, the first output appears (to the stdout logfile) and after some time Tomcat simply hangs - it doesn't respond to anything anymore, 0% CPU, no output to logfiles anymore, doesn't even respond to normal Tomcat shutdown (e.g. when stopping the service, Windows waits the standard timeout then just kills it).
Using the classic JVM in a console (e.g. not through JavaService and the classic/jvm.dll) works fine! No problems!
Anyone here who can offer any help on this?
Any hints why Tomcat may behave correctly in 5 out of six possible configurations (hotspot-server/client as service or console or classic as console) but hanging with 1 configuration (classic as service)?
Also, on my W2000 box where this happens, the moment Tomcat hangs, I hear a Windows warning sound being played (the standard warning gong), like it happens when an info dialog pops up - only there is no dialog or whatever and the same moment Tomcat's CPU usage drops to 0% (although the app is still in startup and should do some more work for a few seconds).
This also doesn't always happen at the same moment during startup, but each time at a different moment, e.g. I can not pin it down to something that is done during startup, it just happens a short while (sometimes earlier, sometimes later) after startup...
Of course, I could simply say "forget classic, it's being phased out anyway", only: The SAME thing happens with IBM's Java 1.3 VM too (except for the gong sound, which seems to be Sun-JVM specific ;-)! And I would very much like my app to be able to run on IBM's VM (usually I'm using Sun's VMs everywhere, but we have a few stray W2000 boxes with SP2 where Sun's 1.3.1_0x VMs crash with our application [not hang like described above, but really crash, even when run as a console]) and on those boxes the IBM JVM in a console works fine - now I only have to get it working as a service too (and while researching why it hangs I saw that Sun's classic JVM hangs too, so I figured, I first find out why that happens, with the hope that the fix is applicable to IBM's JVM too...).

I've not been working with Tomcar as a service, so can't help directly, but can offer some comments that might be of use (apologies if they aren't!).
There are Tomcat scripts for V3.1, V3.2 and V4 with the JavaService code from Alexandria SC. Looks like you need one for V3.3 as well?
In these others, there are fairly long lists of jar files in the classpath, so I would expect it to work correctly for the version you are using (unless there is a problem with the way that classloaders are involved, which is something that is known to get in the way for some app server-based programs).
I would expect the classpath to work if changed from what you have listed to something like the following:
set CP=%TOMCAT_HOME%\lib\tomcat.jar;%TOMCAT_HOME%\lib\jaxp.jar;%TOMCAT_HOME$\lib\other_library.jar
Is that what you have tried to do, and found problems?
Does this version of Tomcat bundle all of its resources into a single jar file (tomcat.jar), or is that a file you have created yourself?
Is the problem found when loading and starting Tomcat itself, or from within your server-based application?
Does it fail to load a 'standard' Tomcat library archive, or a jar file containing your own program code?

Safari hangs or fails loading Quicktimes

I'm uploading Qt's to my website - they load fine locally, but from the web Safari hangs, spinning beachball, and sometimes fails to load the video at all.
The video is H264 exported from Quicktime Pro 7.6.3, tried running Safari in 64, 32 and even Rosetta modes. It appears that QtX is trying load the video no matter how I run Safari.

Always run Safari in 32 bit mode.

You want that to happen. Otherwise you would have to wait that much longer everytime a video loads and that would happen to every visitor to your site without a browser cache. It empties the cache from the Safari/Empty Cache menu but the minute you load another video your computer writes that data into the cache.

Growing pains. Whenever you upgrade any computer from one operating system to the next, it's important to read all the data you can to prepare. Each time you see a Software Update for the Mac OS X you have the option in that window to click a link so you can see exactly what the update includes. Third party software is often a culprit for issues after updating software.
