Safari hangs After upgrade to 10.5.6

After I upgraded to 10.5.6 last night I have been unable to use Safari. Safari just hangs after imediately opening. Firefox works just fine. Anybody having this issue after the OS upgrade? I am at a loss of what to do.

I had the same issue after instilling a security update. (Running 10.5.6 already)
Safari would simply hang when trying to load websites with external resources such as CSS and SWF files - Google lagging such resources, worked perfectly - But navigating to other websites would lock up the browser. To solve the issues I tried the following;
- Running software update again, installing everything missing.
- Downloading and reinstalling Safari manually
- Downloading and reinstalling newest version of flash.
- Downloading newest build of webkit - which also locked up.
- Rebooting (Doh)
Nothing of the above worked; then I found this thread and noticed one thing I had not tried - Resetting safari!
Started safari and hit ESC immediately to stop safari loading anything.
Safari -> Reset Safari -> Check all checkboxes -> Reset.
Success; this message is written using my new working Safari!
In hindsight I should have reset each of the options separately to narrow down the bug. But I was not in a debugging mood at the time.

What I noticed was that I deleted the application but did not uninstall the extension.
Now I have now uninstalled the extension and Safari is back to normal.

Multiple Safari hangs after installing Snow Leopard

I had 5 Safari hangs today within hours...never had one since I bought the machine in June 2009 with Leopard installed...Since the SL upgrade CD, I have had 2 system freezes that result in a complete shutdown to clear and multiple Safari hangs that I able to recover with a force quit..My daughter in college with the same machine reported that she had 3 system freezes in one day since SL...My wife who did NOT yet install the SL upgrade and is now blissfully having no problems at all and does not want to install the new OS (again same machine type, We bought 3of them in June after the announcement). I hope that this gets debugged and fixes provided...

For system freezes try maintenance.

On the Macs you upgraded to SL, did you check to see if you had 3rd party software installed that might not be compatible? http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3258
Did you repair permissions after the upgrade?
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

Safari hangs after 10.4.7 update

When I was running 10.4.6, Firefox and Safari were comparible in speed.
After I upgraded to 10.4.7, I'll enter a URL or click a link to another page, and Safari will just kinda hang after loading about half of the items on a page (according to the progress bar at the bottom). Usually if I re-request a page (clicking a link a second time, or re-entering the URL) the page will load completely. Firefox loads all pages as it did before.
I've done all the permissions repair thingys.
I've tried upgrading my flash player to flash 9 (just came out today, I think) but it didn't help, though flash 9 seems to now allow me to view spiketv.com videos that I wasn't able to see before.
I also did a "Reset Safari", and I think it helped a little, but the hanging problem persists.
Has anyone else experienced this since upgrading to 10.4.7?

I'm suffering from the same problem but it started a few days ago without me installing 10.4.7. It just hangs while downloading web pages. I don't mean the browser app hangs - I can still access menus. It just fails to download web pages. This will typically happen after, say, 30 minutes of use. I have reset Safari, switched of Java and Javascript, and it all has no effect. If I quit Safari and restart it cures the problem for a short while. If I disconnect from my wireless network and reconnect it has no effect. Meanwhile Firefox works fine so that's the browser I'll use until Apple fix Safari. The hang can happen mid-page, and then from that point no pages in any tabs will download.

Iphoto hangs after upgrading to Yosemite and latest iPhoto version

It tells me the library needs upgrading, and starts to search the library. The progress bar suggests something is happening then hangs after about 99% completion. I have had to force close twice after several hours stuck at that point and then start the whole process from scratch when I restart.

Rebuilding a corrupted iPhoto library
If you have an iPhoto library that is corrupt and causing iPhoto to crash or otherwise be unusable, iPhoto Library Manager provides the ability to rebuild your library based on the information found in its library data files. Note that iPhoto also has a built-in rebuild function that can be sometimes be used to repair a corrupted library database. You can find instructions on how to use that on Apple's website at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2638 (iPhoto 6 or later) or http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2042 (iPhoto 5 or earlier).
iPhoto Library Manager's rebuild works differently, in that instead of trying to repair the library in place, it creates a brand new library and tries to reimport the entire contents of the original library into the new one, including reconstructing albums, photo metadata, etc. Note that rebuilding a library has all the same limitations as other photo transfer operations as far as what can and can't be copied between libraries. Also, depending on how badly damaged the library is, iPhoto Library Manager may or may not be able to piece together some or all of the library metadata.
To start a rebuild, select the library you would like to rebuild, then choose the "Rebuild Library" item from the "Library" menu. You will be prompted to choose a location for the rebuilt library, and whether or not you want iPLM to scavenge orphaned photos it finds in the library package. Once you've made your choices, iPLM will examine the library and rebuild the library structure and photos as best it can, then display you a preview of what it was able to find. If your library is badly damaged and the preview is missing a lot of content from the original library, this can save you from going through with a rebuild that won’t end up being of much help.
Once you've had a chance to examine the preview, if you want to go forward and create the rebuilt library, click the "Rebuild" button in the upper right. iPhoto Library Manager will create a new library and start importing the contents of the original library into the new one.
Scavenging photos
In some cases, either the iPhoto library database is too damaged for iPhoto Library Manager to be able to salvage any information from it, or the library data is incomplete and there are photos that still exist inside the library package, but iPhoto has lost track of them. In these cases, you may want to check the "Scavenge orphaned photos" checkbox when choosing a location for the rebuilt library. After iPhoto Library Manager has read the library data as best it can, it will perform an additional pass through the package and locate any photos that are no longer referenced in the library database. Any additional photos that are found will be included in the rebuild, and a new "Scavenged Photos" album will be created in the rebuilt library containing any scavenged photos.

AddressBook Hang after upgrade to 10.7.2

I have used AddressBook in 10.7 and upgraded to 10.7.1 seamlessly.
I mostly use it to sync from my Gmail contact. But recently after upgrade to 10.7.2 It says It support iCloud and I am no need to sync with Google anymore. ????
But from what I see all my contact from Google still there. While newly created contact on iCloud keep update in my AddressBook.
But it perform very strange. cannot search and sometimes hang up.
I can't remove my previous gmail account in preference because it disappeared. only iCloud is my current option.
Any helppppppp.
PS. I mostly want to have my Gmail contacts and iCloud in sync. If it both copied I can ensure everything have its backup online.

Safari hangs on upgrade

Anyone else having Safari hanging on doing a Software update??
I have tried three times and it just hangs. After 15 minutes with progress bar at same spot I just pulled the plug and tried again.

Safari Slow after Mavericks install.
My Fix.
In order below try:
1) System Preferences -> Flash —> Advanced -> “Browser Data and Settings” -> “Delete All”
2) Safari -> “Reset Safari” (make sure you clear everything).
3) Reboot your machine.
Try the misbehaving website…all should be well.
If not:
4) Safari -> “Reset Safari” (make sure you clear everything).
5) Exit Safari
6) In Finder go to ~/Library/Caches
   remove com.apple.Safari
7) In Finder go to /Library/Caches
    there may be a file or directory with “Safari” in name…remove it.
8) In Finder go to ~/Library/Preferences
     there may be a file com.apple.Safari.plist , remove it.
     there may be a file com.apple.Safari.Extensions.plist , remove it.
9) In Finder go to ~Library/Saved Application State
     there may be a file com.apple.Safari.savedState , remove it.
10) Reboot your machine.
Try the misbehaving website and all should be well.
If not:
11) Safari -> “Reset Safari” (make sure you clear everything).
12) In Finder go to ~/Library/Caches
    remove the file com.apple.nsservicescache.plist
13) Reboot your machine.
Try the misbehaving website and all should be well.
If not:
14) System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced -> DNS
    The IP Addresses here should be “greyed out” numbers.
    If they stand out as “black”, you may have a conflict with your ISPs DNS Servers.
    If they are in “black”,
    a) Note the numbers down on paper.
    b) Remove them
    c) Apply
    d) Check that the numbers are now “grey”.
15) Reboot your machine.
Try the misbehaving website and all should be well.
If it is anything else…you are on your own…

Tpnotify with TPACK flag hangs after upgrading to Tuxedo 12c RP020

Hi,
We are experiencing issues with tptonify with TPACK flag set after upgrading to Tuxedo 12c. Looks like tpnotify is not returned or reporting errors. Is there anything to do with "009. Bug16506218 - TPNOTIFY WITH TPACK FLAG THROW OUT EXCEPTION"? Is there any documentation about the new flag TPACK_INTL?

If all you have done is upgrade to Tuxedo12 the behavior should be the same. The TPACK flag definition is:
"The request is sent and the caller blocks until an acknowledgement message is received from the target client"
Is there any additional change(e.g. in your client) you have made?
What Tuxedo version are you upgrading from?
The bug 16506218 fix was for a jolt client exception and a JSH failure.
Do you see an error or is the process which executes tpnotify() just hanging/blocking waiting for the ack message?
The flag that you mention is actually an undocumented customer requested enhancement that went into Tuxedo 10.3.
Are you using it? Using it changes the tpnotify() behavior dependent upon the client status.

Sync hangs after upgrade to iTunes 9

After upgrading to iTunes 9.1.0.79 from 8.xx last week I have been unable to sync Outlook contacts and Calendar - sync hangs and never completes.
iPhone 3GS on 3.1.3
(No other changes made to laptop at the time - direct issue with upgrade to iTunes 9)
Spend 1:45 on phone with Apple Support last week - very helpful - but no fix, and frustrated. (Have case number) Removed all Apple Apps - reinstalled, looked for list of DLL's on my PC etc during the call.
Any new ideas to resolve will be gratefully rec'd, or fix from Apple.

I have very similar symptoms after upgrade to iTunes 9.1. During sync of Calendars (or if Calendars disabled, during iPhone backup step), Outlook hangs & sync never completes. Outlook stays hung, and hangs again if I kill and restart, until I reboot. Hugely frustrating.

After upgrading the latest security, quicktime and iTunes files last night, Safari opens and then crashes as soon as a mouseclick in the address field or to a link occurs. I have restarted and get the same crash. I see designgirl76 posted below has similar crash report (after upgrading). I am running OS 10.3.9 on an iMac and Safari version 1.3.2. I am now stuck with Explorer for the internet, not my choice.

Thanks to those helping others, especially Eme. I logged on my computer under a different user account and Safari worked. I then tried again from my account and Safari worked. (I replicated the crash four times including two restarts yesterday, but today. . . It works.) Of course when I attempted to log on to the Safari discussion, I was rejected at first, clicking the link again, presto, here I am on Safari. Ah computers. This still beats FORTRAN on a key punch in the sixties.
Eme (or anyone reading this) I found my crash log, but couldn't figure out how to attach it to my question. I tried copy and paste, but the log was long and it didn't work.

T430u hangs after upgrading to Windows 8.1

Hi, after upgrading to Windows 8.1 my Lenovo T430u started to freeze on some applications (specially ms Excel 2013). Sometimes the network connection was lost.
I did a clean install of Windows 8.0 and after downloading and reinstalling all drivers everything was working perfectly. Until I upgraded to Windows 8.1 again.
Now I'm having the exact same issues than I had when I first upgraded to Windows 8.1. I have installed all OS patches as suggested by Windows Update.
Is there any Windows 8.1 OS image that I can download from Lenovo that is tested for my machine? Or should I go back and reinstall Windows 8.0 and live with it?

PC hangs after upgrade Windows 8 PE to Windows 8.1

Couple of days after upgrading to Windows 8.1 I received the error message
File: \BCD
Errorcode: 0xc0000098
Press ESC for UEFI-firmware-settings.
PC doesn't boot any longer.
I ran following commands successfully :
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /scanos
but while running bootrec /rebuildbcd I get the message :
Total identified Windows installations : 1
[1] c:\windows
Add installation to boot list ? Yes <Y>/No <N>/All<A>
When choosing the option <A> I get "volume does not contain a recognized file system.

I understand that you are experiencing an issue with the Master Boot Record on your computer running Windows 8.1. Now you stated that you did the following:
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
I think you should repeat the process, but include the 'bootrec /rebuildbcd' at the end and then restart the computer

Safari hangs after Yosemite install;

I installed Yosemite on my MAC Book Pro;
When my Mac is in sleep mode and the cover is closed, Safari hangs and I get a blank screen;
The only fix I found was to restart the Mac and safari is back.
any recommendations on how to fix the safari issue?

I can quit safari fine; no need to force quit; I get a white screen and nothing happens.
I can quit safari normally;
I restart it and get the same white screen
However when I restart my Mac , safari works fine.
This process happens every morning; I close the cover to my Mac at night, and try to start it the following day.

Safari hanging after resetting

My safari hangs on startup every time. I've reset safari, cleared the java cache, and have run the disk utility about a dozen times already and no progress made. Is there any other suggestions to fix the problem without using the bandaid approach? thks

Why I am installing an additional program?
Because based on your brief description, it may fix the problem.
I want it to work without bandaids?
Bandaid? Would you prefer to know the locations of all the system cache files, figure out which ones to delete etc etc. or is that a 'bandaid' as well?
What is going on with you guys from apple?
