Safari hangs and won't force quit
I tried searching for this but the problem prevented that.
After repairing my permissions yesterday, Safari won't let me do certain things like right-clicking an image or goto various sites or let my use tabbed browsing. I just get stuck with the spinning beachball.
If I try to force quit Safari just disappears from the force quit menu while still existing in the Dock and in the background. I tried running top to get the process id and kill it but I couldn't find Safari in there.
I really need some help on this as I have to hand in an assignment online on monday.
Anyone got some ideas?

PS CS3 Crashes and Won't Force Quit
Using Mac OS X 10.5.2 and latest PS. PS crashes and won't force quit. I have to reboot. Then after opening PS again and barely start editing a file (nothing else is running and I have 4GB ram) PS crashes again.
Also the reset password function on the Adobe site refuses to work and I can't get any support. This is getting really frustrating.I assume you trashed your preferences? Look in your user Library/Preferences folder and delete your com.adobe.Photoshop.plist file where your preferences are stored. Other than that, I have no clue. Did you try editing different files to see if it could be just that one file giving you problems? I have been using PS CS3 for the past three days, and I have noticed a lot of instability which I didn't have with PS 7. Of course, new machine, new programs, I was expecting a few glitches, but hopefully the dust will settle soon and my workflow will become stable again.

I recently upgraded to Lion, and immediately started having consistent problems with Open Office 12 (would hang, and need a Force quit to recover). Has anybody else seen these problems? Any solutions other than going back to Snow Leopard? (I did). But I'd like to use iCloud with iPad.
Hi Pete. The repair of disk permissions can help resolve any application crashing or misbehaving.
As for Lion and the two camps, I think that is a reasonable observation. In my office we have about a dozen Mac's and about one third of those Mac's had problems after updating from 10.6 to 10.7. The main problem for these Mac's was a loss of wifi stability. But for the other two-thirds, Lion was a smooth transition.
Personally, my Lion experience was fine. But I did get a new i7 MacBook Pro with Lion already installed and only had to migrate my user data from a 10.6.8 TM backup.
So I think that is a key for Lion's operational success. A clean install of Lion on a new Mac would not cause too many operational issues. But an installation, or more correctly, an update to Lion from SL increased the chances of failure for some users - especially when old software & plugins resided on the Mac. And I would say that they were the people that you saw at the Apple store.
As for the "latest release of Lion fixed my problems" statement, my experience with these and other forums is that people mostly only go there to complain about the problems they are having. If they are having no problems then they either keep it to themselves or they try to help the users who are experiencing trouble... -
Safari hangs and cannot be forced to quit...
Mountain Lion 10.8.2
Since the 6.0.2 update, I am finding that Safari hangs 4-5 times a day, and cannot be Forced to Quit. Doing a Force Quit only causes a hard crash and you need to reboot.
Anyone else seeing this?Moving back to 6.0.1 did not resolve this issue.
I am now investigating two possibilitites:
1. There was a supplemental Mountain Lion update for 10.6.2. Since I only started with 10.6.3, someone recommended I install that update. I have.
2. In the Energy system preferences, someone suggested that I turn off "Wake for Network Access". Since I have no other systems which would need to wake my MacMini, this seems like a good idea.
My MacMini is starting up now a LOT faster (3-4x) after restarts since the Supplemental Update. We will see if having Wake for Network Access makes any difference. -
Safari Freezes and must be Forced Quit
Safari freezes on my iMac and has to be forced quit every time I open it. It corrupted my Time Machine External Drive and that is now toast. I don't understand at all what is going on here. Firefox works fine, but I want Safari working so I can Sync with my MacBook Pro and iPhone,

Google Chrome locks up and won't force quit
Something is off with my MacBook. I'm running OS X 10.5.8 Google Chrome routinely locks up when browsing Facebook sites. And lately once Chrome is locked up even a Force Quit will not close the program. When Chrome encounters a problem running a script and becomes unresponsive mac mail locks up too and often crashes then crashes on launch 8 or nine times in a row then runs fine until Google Chrome locks up again. I suspected malware so downloaded iAntivirus which found nothing and ClamXav which found 4 problem e-mails in my junk folder all of which had never been open and I quickly trashed. But the problem continues.

This won't help with your problem, but never move or delete e-mail files manually or allow your AV software to do so. This will corrupt your mailbox index which could result in additional e-mails being lost. More imprortantly, if you have an IMAP account or a POP account where you leave messages on the server, those same messages will just be downloaded to your computer again the next time you check for new mail. Always delete e-mail from your e-mail client application. If this it's a g-mail account you will need to take an extra step of using webmail in your browser to permanently delete any e-mail. -
IPhoto freezes and won't 'force quit'
9.1.3 freezes when trying to resize the window and also won't scroll through photos, goes about halfway and returns to top. This is a question and an answer. Apple was NO help I am 2 weeks out of phone support, I am not paying $50 to help them fix their own software issue. The answer? Revert to 9.1. 9.1 works just fine. I hope this helps someone else before Apple pulls it for being 'negative'. Wait for the update after 9.1.3 before upgrading!!
When I force quit the pop-up window appears.
What pop-up window? -
Mail App freezes and won't force quit.
My internet service keeps going out, and this causes my Mail app to freeze. I usually simply force quit, but it won't do that now, and I can't shut the computer down. I'd rather not hard reboot it.
Kerri
I suggest you look at the posts in the pre-tiger OS X discussions, maybe this one and if you can't find anything related re-post your question there.

Mail freezes and won't force quit
this happens to a few of the programs, but mostly Mail. when i open the program, it starts to load and then gets stuck at "loading addressbook." i have to force quit at least twice to get it to quit [the first force quit never works.] i ran disk warrior, and it worked better for a day, but now back to freezing. any ideas? [i'm on 10.2.8]

Speedgrade won't force quit. Cannot restart my computer
So I opened Speedgrade CS6 and it crashed and won't force quit. I cannot see the work area but the icon is open in the dock and I cannot open any other Speedgrade project or even restart my computer for that matter. It's just frozen there.
Anyone else had this problem before? Any fixes or solutions?
Thanks!

My iTunes won't force quit and says it's still syncing my iPhone after hours of syncing.
My iTunes won't force quit and says it's still syncing my iPhone after hours of syncing. I had plugged in my iPhone 4S in the morning before I left for school, it synced almost completely, and then it got stuck on "Finishing Sync". I pulled my iPhone out because I had to leave to go to school, and iTunes is still stuck on "Finishing Sync". I tried force quitting and restarting but it's of no use. Now I can't use iTunes at all.
Scratch that, I TRIED to shut down but I guess iTunes overrided it because it still thinks it's syncing

Safari hangs and poor performance in MBPR (Mid 2012)
Safari hangs and poor performance in MBPR (Mid 2012)? OS X 10.10.2 is up to date
Please answer as many of the following questions as you can. You may already have answered some of them. In that case, there's no need to repeat the answers.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Have you restarted your router and your broadband device (if they're separate) since you first noticed the problem? If not, do that now and see whether there's any change.
If your browser is Safari, then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
and confirm. If the Downloads button (with the icon of a downward-pointing arrow) is showing in the toolbar, click it and then click Clear in the box that appears. The download history will be removed. Any change?
If you're running OS X 10.9 or later, select the Advanced tab in the Preferences window and uncheck the box marked
Stop plug-ins to save power
Any change?
Quit and relaunch the browser. Any change?
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Are any other web browsers installed, and are they the same? What about other Internet applications, such as iTunes and the App Store?
If other browsers and Internet applications are also affected, follow these instructions and test. Any change?
If Parental Controls is active for any user, please turn it off and test. Any change?
If only Safari is affected, launch the Activity Monitor application and enter "web" (without the quotes) in the search box. If a process named "Safari Web Content" is shown in red or is using more than about 5% of a CPU, select it and force it to quit by clicking the X or Quit Process button in the toolbar of the window. There may be more than one such process. Any improvement?
Follow the instructions in this support article. Any change?
Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the box marked Photos, if it's checked. Any change?
Are there any other devices on the same network that can browse the Web, and are they affected?
If you can test Safari on another network, is it the same there?
If you connect to your router with Wi-Fi and you can also connect with Ethernet, do that and turn off Wi-Fi. Any difference?
