Safari has gone dark

safari is dark.  Can't do anything.  Everything else is working fine.

Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cache (and Clear History)
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Having just installed Firefox for the 1st time my screen has gone dark. I am on a MAC which also has Safari on it. I have made the Firefox the main Browser. Can I make my screen brighter or should I take off Firefox.

Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. From the troubleshooting you performed and the hotness I suspect a hardware proboem.

  • Safari has gone very slow

    Hi there
I have an iPod touch and have found that safari has gone really slow. It takes ages to load the page and zoom in and out also scrolling up and down. It al started when I let my kids aged 11 and 9 used it.  They where not as careful as me when using it but I was supervising and they did not drop it or anything. I have rebooted it then reset it to factory settings in iTunes. I have taken off the apps that they put on there but it made no difference. It has been fine since ios 4 update came out so it had nothing to do with that. I always thought that safari was quite quick but now its unusable on some sites, manly sites with moving images. It is like there is not enough ram any more. I know its not the modem as the two computers that i have are just the same, pretty good and there both using safari. Its strange as my mobile phone with android did the same thing about 6 months ago and nether improved. The phone does it on any wifi and mobile network, so again it cant be the modem. Is there any thing I can do with the ipod to speed safari up, or is that it I cant use safari any more and use opera instead?
    Thanks for any help

    thanks both for the repliy
I now its not the network as its fine with everything else. Also I have already tried restoring the ipod with itunes and that didn't make any difference. I have now reset it like you said but that didn't work. Not sure what to do now maybe safari just want work like it use to. I forgot to say it is a second gen ipod touch so it is quite old now.
Any more help I would be very thankful for.

  • My 27inch i Mac screen has gone darker, like a colour burn but also a bit washed out. Can anyone advise what may be wrong before I take it for repair?

My 27inch i Mac screen has gone darker all of a sudden. It's almost like a colour Burn and it's also washed out. Can anyone advise what the problem may be before I take it for repair?

Check the settings in System Preferences > Universal Access > Seeing > Display.
It's possible to alter some of those settings accidently by hitting the wrong key combinations.

  • Ibook screen has gone dark

I'm helping a friend with a G4 i-book, about 3 years old I think. Today, while working on it, the screen went black. I think it may have gone to sleep but I cannot know for sure. I pressed the F2 key checking to see if he had somehow turned down the brightness but no change. I took it to the window and can see the computer is awake. Using the light, and turning the laptop at a side angle, I can see folders, etc. I went to the dock and found system preferences and clicked on display. The brightness was about half way so I turned it up but the screen stayed just as dark, almost impossoble to see anything. We shut it down and restarted it and while I can see it is on and awake, the screen is so dark you cannot possibly use it or see what is there without holding it up to light with an odd angle.
I did do a search by many of the posts were about flickering or flashing dark. His screen has gone dark and while I can see things if I 'peer' carefully, the screen is black all the time.
    Any suggestions?
    michelle

    Hey Michelle,
Most certainly this is a inverter cable issue. Usually they open up near the hinge point. I've repaired two that this happened to. I have also seen two that shorted to ground and took out a tiny fuse on the logic board so after I repaired the short I had to bridge the fuse w/ a fuse link.
Try moving the display up and down while it's on. If it comes on it's most certainly that cable.

  • OfficeJet Printer Pro 8620 - screen has gone dark!

I have an OfficeJet Pro 8620.   Although it's still able to print, the screen has gone dark so I'm not able to fax or scan any documents.
    Need help ASAP, please!
    Naidia

    Hey @Naidia,
Thanks for posting in the HP Support Forum.  I would like to assist you with your HP Officejet Pro 8620 e-All-in-One Printer's issue.
Just to clarify, is it that your printer display is too dark to easily navigate through the menu items, or is it completely black and non-responsive (save for the printing and faxing functionality you mentioned)?
The first thing I suggest is to plug the printer into the wall outlet directly if it is currently in a power surge protector or extension cord. This may sound silly but this will ensure the printer is getting full power and may eliminate any unnecessary troubleshooting. If the printer is no longer getting full power from the power surge or extension cord it may give false errors, have poor connection, paper feed issues and quality issues.
Secondly, I recommending that you perform a 'hard reset':
    Reset the printer
Press the Power button () to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button () to turn it on.
Please let me know a little more about your printer's issue if these basic steps don't restore your display's regular functionality and visibility.
    Thank you!

  • Ipod mini screen has gone dark, and when backlight goes on v

Ipod mini screen has gone dark, and when backlight goes on the centre part with writing etc is almost black with light around edge. will this go? do i need to send it back?

Maybe your backlight is burning out? That's what I would think when the center is black but the edges have light. I'm not sure if a reset would fix the backlight but you can try (hold the menu and center buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo and then release). If I were I'd send it back to Apple but do you know if you are still under warranty? You should be if you've had your iPod less than a year.

Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cache (and Clear History)

  • Screen has gone dark blue

it started as green specs and weird resolution, now it's just gone dark blue.  No nothing. Am I toast?

Have you tried rebooting? Hold down on the power/sleep button and the home button until the Apple logo appears on the screen? It raises about 10 seconds or so.
If that doesn't work, restore the iPad via iTunes on your computer.
I dont know what else to try other than restoring the device if rebooting doesn't work.

  • Safari has gone after 4.2 to 4.3 update

After the las update to get IOS 4.3, ther is a big hole in the bottom task bar. I need some minutes guess what was missing, I'm so used to seen this icons that I don't remember what they do.
Looking on iPhone pubs I've seen that Safari has disapeared. I tried an other sync that is very very very very long, because of optimisation of 1616 photos, this was not done yesterday ? Now iTunes is copying 1609 photos from Mac to iPhone !
I think that something was missed yesterday after the update, perhaps why Safari has disapeared.
In fact sync takes more than 40 minutes today, yesterday, it takes only 15 minutes.
After this new sync, Safari is not on my screen.
    What can I do ?

You give me the good solution, restrictions was enabled for Safari
    It's now ok

My iPad screen as gone. Funny greeny colour, everything including pictures are that colour, but when I use the internet it is normal. Please could you help. I've rebooted but no change

Some folks here have reported that giving the back of the iPad a couple of sharp whacks has solved this issue - but you do this at your own risk. Best of luck.

  • My M500 screen has gone dark!

I am having trouble with my screen. It goes dark almost immediately after turning it on. I get one second of normal screen brightness and then it "goes black". There does not appear to be a way to adjust the contrast -- which is what I think the problem is. Can anyone help me? I've tried resetting it and that hasn't seemed to work.
    Thanks,

IIRC, you need to press and hold the power button for two seconds.  This turns the backlight on/off.
