Safari has tabbed windows, why not Finder windows?

Having 7 different finder windows open at once can be quite annoying and difficult to navigate through. I would much rather have one or two windows open and however many tabs for each. It doesn't seem like it would be anything difficult to add, so why not offer it?

There are a ton of usability issues to contend with that Safari doesn't have to deal with.
So many that Finder seems to get markedly buggier and quirkier with each new release. It is as if it is in perpetual late beta development, with new features grafted on before the old ones are completely perfected. The last thing we need is yet another one until Apple fully sorts out the code already there.

Using WindowsXP, and e-mail via Yahoo, browser is Firefox 4.0.I get the following error message when accessing yahoo mail site:"http://us.f831.mail.yahoo.com/dc/launch?action=welcome&yy=1782408664&.rand=0qrsdp1o...Windows can not find(the above address is inserted here).make sure you typed the name correctly, and try again". • Windows Could not find the Driver for your Apple iPod USB Device (5G 30GB)

    I have a 8GB iPod Nano. My roommate has a 30GB 5G Video. Black.
My iPod syncs flawlessly. His is not recognized by Windows or iTunes. Every time we plug in the iPod, it prompts us for the driver. I tried to install the update apple mentions through the windows process, but after going through the tedious Windows Genuine Verification process, I was told that the update didn't apply to my computer.
We use a Lenovo Thinkpad T60p, which shipped with Windows Vista Business.
We are running iTunes 7.3.1.3, and there are no windows updates available for the computer.
    I have...
    ...reset
...reinstalled 7.3.1.3 (over and over and over)
...tried different USB ports. (Early on, we saw it once after swapping ports).
...tried turning off the ability of the computer to 'Turn this device off to save power."
I have also verified that the iPod works on my work Dell Lattitude D620 running XP, and that it's not the cord, as we've used the cord that came with my Nano as well.
So, the problem seems to be with vista, as many people seem to have had. The best thread I found that deals with this was http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=995793.
But even after having tried everything, I still have an unrecognizable iPod.
When I run iPod diagonostics, everything seems okay, except for the iPod connection, which says failed. I've had difficulty working with the iPod service under Computer/Device Manager - it doesn't ever seem to stop or start, with the iPod plugged in or not.
And interestingly enough, the FAT32 external harddrive that I use to back up my data exhibits exactly the same problem ("Windows could not find the driver for your USB Mass Storage Device). This device worked great in XP, and even odder, I have a FAT32 partition of the main HD as a swap space between my VistaOS and my Ubuntu installation.
Do I have to chalk this up to another issue with Windows Vista? What bothers me there is that you're a ping-pong between windows support and apple support - no one really owns up the problem.

Bill, I've been stuck in this loop for 3 months since buying a new laptop with Vista Basic. I've tried everything to no avail. I don't know what else to do apart from buying a cheap PC running XP. Let me know if you manage to find a solution and I'll do the same.

  • Windows can not find ' FILE ': error.

I have downloaded and installed the production version of SQL Developer. (1.0.0.14.67)
    Windows XP SP 2.
When I started it for the first time I checked all the file association check boxes.
If I double click on a .sql file the following windows error occurs:
Windows can not find '<file>'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To Search for a file, click the Start button, and then click search.
SQL Developer does startup. The error message is closed when the OK button is selected.
    Any Ideas?
    Regards;
    Robert

    Hi Robert,
Just to confirm, SQL Developer does actually open the file. The only issue is the error message displayed. I have logged a bug for that.
There is a work around until that is sorted. If you use explorer to associate the file types with SQL Developer, they open without this error.

  • Safari opens tabs that or not in the bookmark list

    Hi,
Safari opens tabs that or not in the bookmark list. Emptied cache, deleted history and cleared all bookmarks. The tabs (about 30) open up gain when I restart.
    Andreas

Try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file.
Open a Finder window. Select your Home Folder in the Sidebar on the left. It has a small house icon. Then open the Library folder then the Preferences folder.
Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.
    Try Safari.

  • Entering TimeMachine from any window but a Finder window...

I just came across this today and I could not find anything current on the matter so I pose it to the community.
If my front most window is Mail and I decided I want to enter TimeMachine for I just remembered that I was going to restore a document I deleted in my Documents folder and I enter TimeMachine with the Mail or any application other than the finder window as the front window is there any way from say Mail or itunes etc to navigate to say the Documents folder from the Timemachine backup window to a finder window.
    Arrow keys?
    A key combo?
Does the answer come down to if you want to replace something from a backup you have to be in the application you plan to navigate through?

Does the answer come down to if you want to replace something from a backup you have to be in the application you plan to navigate through?
Yes*, with the caveat that if the application is supported in Time Machine, it will go to the Finder.
*I've never heard of a way.

  • Jaznmigrationtool - why not finding duplicates ?

    Hi,
During jaznmigrationtool process, we found out the jaznmigrationtool creates ldiff file with entries of groups/policy which are already present in OID, its not checking duplicates.
Is there command-line option, to check for duplicates and tell dont create those entries ?
Frank however replied for my thread, which i posted in wrong forum(Jdeveloper instead of OC4j),
jaznmigrationtool - why not finding duplicates ?
How should i file for possible bug or Enhancement Request against JAZN in OC4J ?
    Thanks in advance
    Ayaps

    Hi,
there is no option for this. However, the LDIFF upload should fail for the duplicates, which means that running it should not create duplicate entries in OID. Please note that jaznmigrationtool is part of OC4J, not JDeveloper, which means that a possie bug or Enhancement Request needs to be filed against JAZN in OC4J

  • "hsn-waltev1" This has showed up in my Finder window under Shared items... Anyone know what this is.

Right clicking gives me two choices 'Open in new tab or Get Info' Clicking get info opens a window with the name as above says the Kind is a PC with continual fetching for more info.  Finder window has a picture of an old Monitor with a blue screen.  Clicking on it says Not Connected, I can't delete it or do anything with it.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Yes it appears to be something on the network, however I haven't added any devices and don't own any PCs!  I've had the same network configuration for some time - this device has just appeared.
I was hoping someone else might have seen this device ID before as I certainly did not add it knowingly.

  • Does anyone know why my finder window resizes when I enter time machine?

Can anyone explain why my finder changes size when I enter time machine? I'm pretty sure this didn't happen on Snow Leopard but it does since I installed Lion. It's only a small glitch but it's rather annoying since I have positioned and resized the finder window on my desktop to the place I want it - in the centre of the screen and showing all the folders in my sidebar list. When I enter time machine the finder window becomes shorter, therefore not showing all the sidebar folders. I wouldn't mind if when I exit time machine it reverts back to the way it was but it doesn't so I have to resize over again!
    Anyone know why this happenes?

Take a snapshot of this issue and send it to Apple. I think it may be a small glitch.

  • NI USB-8473 Windows can not find Driver

After I install my CAN Software 2.6.1 and connect my USB device, Windows starts the Hardware Wizard but, can not find the Drivers for this device.  I started out with 2.4 and uninstalled and reinstalled it which did not help and then I upgraded to 2.6.1.  This did not seem to help either.  My impression is that this is something to do with Windows or the computer, but I thought I would ask if anyone has seen this problem before in case it is a hardware or software issue.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
Thank you for your post.  The NI-CAN driver is an inf file titled nican.inf.  Instead of automatically detected the driver in the Found New Hardware Wizard, try browsing to the nican.inf file.  This file is found in the following directory: C:\Program Files\National Instruments\NI-CAN\staging.
If this doesn't work, I would run the Microsoft Windows cleanup utility linked below and remove all NI-CAN registries from your system and then reinstall the driver once again.

    Hey DBT,
SQL Server 2014 Express supports your operating system.
You can see the link below the requirements for each version: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506.aspx
Did you try to restart the computer and then try installing again?
There are users that it helps them, it might solve the problem but preventing them expect an error and understand why it happens.
Sometimes it appears as a result of lack of .NET Framework (check the Microsoft article if you meet the requirements before installation).
If you are interested to View and Read SQL Server Setup Log Files
I've provided you a link that explains simply how to do this.
