Safari Help

Hello guys
i am rather new to mac and I'm facing my first problem with Safari: My son pulled the plug off while I was browsing. Since then, Safari just doesn't start, it quits just after clicking on it. It appears that "Safari quit unexpectedly window. I tried downloading it on apples website but when trying to install it, it says that the software cannot be installed in my system.
Anyone has any alternative? I thought I could reinstall MAc OS, but was concerned about losing my files as my iphoto library...
Thanks
Marcus

You're Welcome Corpa!
I am very pleased that I could assist you.
To keep Safari at it's optimum capacity, I would recommend that occasionally, you perform the procedures posted below.
From the Safari contextual menu, select Empty Cache.
From the Safari contextual menu, select Reset Safari.
While Safari is not loaded, navigate to:
Hd > Users > Your Account > Library > Safari: Move to the Trash, which can be then emptied, these items:
Icons (folder)
History.plist (file)
Form Values (file)
Downloads.plist (file)
Also, I notice that you have marked your question as answered, but have not utilized the Helpful or Solved options. That may be intentional, but, if you are not aware of the benefits, of using that function, here is some information.
When you mark the appropriate posts as Helpful (5 pts) 2 available, or Solved (10 pts) 1 available, you are Thanking the contributors, by awarding them points.
In threads with multiple replies, it also alerts other readers, to which answers may have been helpful, or solved the issue.
This info, and more, can be viewed by clicking on
? Help & Terms of Use, located under your login name, on all "Discussions" pages.
Specifically What are question answers?.
The Helpful and Solved buttons, that award points, are to the left of the Reply button in each response.
These are not the same as these , which do not award points, as explained Here.
Thank You, for extending the courtesy, of awarding stars in Discussions, as this is not a requirement, nor mandatory.

  • Mailing a webpage - mistake in Safari Help

I don't know if anyone else has seen this. I was going to mail a webpage to a friend of mine today, but couldn't remember how to do it. I clicked on Safari Help, typed in "mail a webpage", & got this answer:
Choose Edit > Mail Contents of This Page, or Edit > Mail Link to This Page.
The command is actually under the File menu, that is it should say "Choose File > Mail Contents of This Page, or Edit > Mail Link to This Page".
The question here is, has anyone else noticed this?

    William,
I noticed it when you pointed it out, but without your observation, would never have known that the difference exists, because I found the Mail feature without the Help documentation.
Some would call that a "Bug," but I just call it an error in documentation.
Perhaps Apple Feedback would be appropriate.

  • Where has Safari help gone?

I recently had problems with getting help viewer to display help on a number of applications. This was cured after I was pointed at a very helpful web site and deleted various preference files and caches. So although that fixed virtually all the problems I still get nothing when I select Safari help.
    Any ideas?

Help is not an application. I just searched for "help" and several of the relevant posts came up on the first page.
This is what Discussions Help says:
"Visit Apple Discussions and navigate to the appropriate hardware or software product forum for which you have an issue or question.
Search or browse the current discussions and FAQs. It's possible that your question or issue has already been answered by other members.
If you don't find answers to your issue, click the Post New Topic link within a forum to post your own question to the Apple Discussions community."

  • Trying to repair permission and I always get this: Permissions differ on "Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Resources/Safari.help/Contents/Resources/inde x.html"; should be lrwxr-xr-x ; they are -rwxr-xr-x .

    Permissions differ on “Applications/Safari.app/Contents/Resources/Safari.help/Contents/Resources/inde x.html”; should be lrwxr-xr-x ; they are -rwxr-xr-x .
I even fresh install the system and every time I do repair the permission I always end up with this even though it said repaired.
I figure this is the problem my laptop, sometime it wont save files or documents and it goes in limbo and had to force shutdown and have to restart on the
booth drive to have it permission repair. I just updated to 10.9.3 and will see if this stop the crashing but repair permission notice is still the same.
    Any feedback please....Thanks

  • Why does Firefox Help open Safari Help??

Am trying to remove a certificate from history. Looked into the Help from the header bar and the Help menu is named Safari Help, not one topic mentions Firefox. All I can think is WTF? It simply makes no sense to be using a Safari Help menu in a Firefox browser.
The Preferences menu for certificates has a delete/mistrust button that does not seem to do anything. By tapping on the arm of my chair I get the same results as tapping on that button.

You can access the Certificate Manager here:
    *Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Certificates/Encryption: View Certificates
You can remove the cert8.db file in the Firefox profile folder to remove all intermediate certificates.<br />
You can only distrust built-in root certificates, but doing this is not recommended.
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

  • Why Safari Help frequently "not available?"

Although I am connected to the Internet, Safari Help topics frequently come up as "not available" as though I were not connected (I've noticed this happens on other Help menus too). Is it my download speed?

Sometimes just closing and reopening the Help window will clear up the problem. If it doesn't, log out or reboot and try again. Otherwise, you may need to delete the Help cache.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.helpd
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder selected. Move the selected folder to the Trash. Log out, log back in, and test. Help pages will be slow to load at first.
If that doesn't work, the problem may be caused by network conditions. It may go away by itself, though I can't say how long you should wait.
A persistent failure to load help data has been reported as an issue with satellite networks. Test on a different network, if possible. I've also seen at least one report that Photo Stream in iCloud can mysteriously interfere with Help. I'm not sure whether that's true, but try disabling Photo Stream, if applicable.*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • I downloaded the latest Adobe Reader when prompted. Since then I cannot use Safari File Print to print web pages - the printer dialogue window opens but the page is blank. Also, when I try to use the safari Help button, the dialogue box is blank.

I downloaded the latest Adobe Reader update when prompted. Since then I cannot use Safari>File>Print to print web pages - the printer dialogue window opens, but the page remains blank. Also when I try to use the Safari Help button, the dialogue box opens but remains infuriatingly blank. Can anyone help me to solve this problem?

    Back up all data.
Quit Safari. In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then launch Safari and test.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

My guess is that the security settings on your router and iPod do not match.
For a test, change your router so there is no security.  See if you can connect and get to the Internet. If that works, set up the router with security and use the same settings for the iPod.

  • Hyperlinks in Mail opening Explorer, not Safari HELP

A week ago, Mail started opening Internet Explorer when I clicked on hyperlink within an email. Prior to this, it was opening Safari, which is what I wanted. I've looked everywhere I can think of in the OS and application to see if I can find a way to switch it back, but I can't find it. Another highly anoying Microsoft trick. Please let me know if you know how to get hyperlinks to open with Safari.
    Thanks,
    Ross

No problem. Glad I could help. Most likely, the first time you used IE a dialog box poped up that asked to set IE as your default browser. I know the PCs I use at school ask every time you open IE, no matter what your response is.

  • HT5372 no bookmarks tab in Safari help

I'm new to this but I can't see the bookmark tab in safari therefore I can't bookmark any web pages.  Please help .

Three ways; tap the open flat book  you get bookmarks it says favorites, history, etc. Scroll down that list, if your bookmark isn't listed by flicking the list up. Next, add the bookmark as favorite and you get a new icon on your Safari page. Last you can add favorites bar just  under the URL box.

  • Safari Help - Quicktime Question Mark

Hey guys, I need help here. My Safari doesn't seem to be working 100% here. I have the Quicktime logo with a 'question mark' on top of it on some on the website I visit. I wonder what I need to do to fix that. Thank you.

Same thing happened to me. Finally figured it out. Install the latest Flash 9.
    Now do this...
    1. Go into System Preferences and choose Quicktime.
    2. Click on Advanced tab.
    3. Uncheck Enable Flash box
    4. Then, click on MIME Settings
    5. Click on triangle next to Miscellaneous - Miscellaneous File Formats
    6. Uncheck all boxes under and including Miscellaneous - Miscellaneous File Formats (you may only need to uncheck the Flash Media box, but I did them all and haven't noticed any other problems)

  • QT won't work in safari, HELP

I can't get any quicktime content at all i just get a black rectangle saying no picture in the middle . Nothing streamed or otherwise. Any Ideas? I am running Tiger and have a 1ghz MDD power mac with 1.2 gig of ram I don't get what the issue is. I even uninstalled Realplayer, firefox, incase they were conflicting but no change.
    HELP Rik

You're seeing the symptoms of a browser plug-in conflict. Third party components you may have downloaded and installed. Do this:
Open the HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder and drag any with VLC in their name to your Desktop. Remember these steps so you can put it back, if needed.
Quit and relaunch Safari and try the file (page) again.

  • Itunes & safari & help -connection problem

My Macbook is not allowing me to connect to the Internet using Safari, but firefox is working normally. So is my Mail.
ALSO when I try to connect to Itunes Store it says there is a connection problem and it times out.
AND when I try to look up issues in Help it doesn't go to the page. Just stays on the front pages.
Do I have some sort of connection problem ????

What you will want to do, is go to the Quicktime Page
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
And download the update of Quicktime.
You have 7.0 of QT downloaded, and iTunes7 needs 7.1.3 of QT on your computer.
Download that and you'll be fine.
That download includes iTunes as well. It should work.
    Good luck,
    Jordan

    Welcome to Apple discussions !
With an intel duo core Mac,
for the current time, you may need to run Safari under "Rosetta."
