Safari hides part of webpage in full screen?

Hi,
I am using Safari 8.0 on Yosemite, on Macbook Air 2013.
See the two attached screenshots.
When I use Safari in normal mode / small window: I can see the top of the webpage (in the example attached, I can see and reach the Apple "menu" that is on top of their website.
But when I go full screen by clicking the green button, 1) the window does not use the full screen: it leaves a black band at the bottom (minor issue) 2) the top of the window covers / hides the top of the webpage! I can't read properly the navigation on top of the webpage. Big issue!
Anybody experiencing the same?
Thanks,
Olivier.

• Safari hides nav bar as though full screen

Lately (the last month) Safari hides the nav bar across the top as though in full screen mode; to exit this I need to hit esc twice. That then minimizes window and the nav bar shows. I can't find a way to show the nav bar in full mode (not in full screen). This is new, frustrating, and likely sending me back to Firefox. Any answers?

I agree, it should stay visible, but you can get it back with one-click by View->Customize Toolbar, then drag the "Boormark Bar" button to the toolbar. When in Full Screen, click the button:
Seems like it will stay visable in subsequent Full Screens.

Mountain Lion is set up to close windows when you quit a program instead of saving them. To change this, put Safari in full-screen mode, move the cursor to the top, open Safari menu while holding Option key and close Safari from the menu.
If you want to do it automatically with all programmes, open System Preferences > General, and deactivate "Close windows when quitting an application"

• My safari window is disappearing in non full screen mode OSX Lion

Hi Guys,
I seem to have the following problem. not sure exactly how it started as my wife was using the mac at the time (she says she just dragged the safari to different desktop via mission control) but now the situation is as follows:
When I hit safari icon it switches on (I can see the little light dot underneath the icon and after right click I can see names of windows that are opened) however I can only see the Safari menu at the top but no window. If I scroll to the right or left to different desktops it's not there, the same goes if I double tap to see the Mission Control mode it's not there...
I so far figured out that once the Safari menu is visible on top of the screen I can go to View>Enter Full Screen and then Safari will come back into the full screen mode but once I unclick the full screen button in right top corner the whole window just swoops into the right top corner and it's nowhere to be found again.
I have rebooted and it's still the same - I can only get the full screen mode or none. it's very weird. Anyone's got any suggestions?

Thank you,
That's not it - Hot corners are not active, it's more like when you normally click the full screen on/off button (the two arrows facing each other) the transition happens with gray apple background and it moves either to or from full screen but here the background comes on and the window just goes into the corner and it's gone. Then when in Safari menu I go View>Enter Full Screen the window comes back exactly the same way: from top right corner into the whole screen.
Like I can only use Safai in Full Screen mode..

• When I am using safari I do not have a full screen

when I'm using safari I do not have a full screen, the top is blank

This is what "full screen" Safari looks like. If you swipe up on the web page, the tool bar disappears. Pull down on the page to get the toolbar to show again. You are not seeing this?

• When I'm using Safari, acasionally the menu bar just disappears. I'm running the latest version of Lion and the latest version of Safari. This is not a full screen app problem. I have multiple windows open. This happens all the time! Firefox is fine! ???

When I'm using Safari, ocasionally the menu bar just disappears. I'm running the latest version of Lion and the latest version of Safari. This is not a full screen app problem. I have multiple windows open. This happens all the time! Firefox is fine! What the ****? Please help!

Right, like I'm trying to say, THERE IS NO SAFARI MENU bar. Example: I have multiple applications open, I click on a Photoshop window, the correct menu or title bar or whatever changes. Every other application window I click on brings up the correct "whatever" bar. If I click on the desktop, the "Finder Bar" shows up.
Everythiing else, BUT SAFARI, works the same way since OS X came out. This is ridiculous.
I'm getting the vibe that Apple is trying to get rid of the finder.... this is the way wrong direction.

• How to get Safari to save my cropping in full screen mode?

Hello,
In Lion, you can put Safari in Full Screen mode and crop the edges. You can set differents crops for different tabs within Safari, but when you restart safari the crops are reset. How can you save the crops for the tabs?
Thanks

Works fine for me.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

• Safari 5.0.2 doesn't hide menu bar with flash full screen mode

I have scoured these forums and others for an answer. I have deleted every little bit of Safari and Adobe/Macromedia/Flash preference file. I even tried using an older backup, which worked until I updated Safari on it.
The menu bar won't go away!
Is this a well known problem, or am I an unlucky slob?

Unlucky so far, I'd say.
So, picking something in particular so we're on the same page... does this refuse to hide the bar too?
Is a New User Account the same ?

• How do I get Safari to open a window both full screen and large?

OS 10.8.5
Safari 6.1.1
When I open a new page in Safari it is only half the screen wide and when I fill the screnn the image is still smal so I command +, three times. Is there a way to make this my default?

Then do a "get info" on it (Apple Key with the letter "i" key)
Select the "Open With" Box
Change it to "Preview"
Then select the box just beneath it
"Change All."
This should set your PDF's to be read with Preview.

• How do I turn off/hide strip viewer when in Full Screen mode?!?!

this is stuck in the on position. not sure if this is something new from 1.5.6 or if something just clicked but it always seems to be in the way and i want it gone! Any ideas?

yours is showing all the time? mine only shows when my mouse is at the bottom of the screen.
However it also shows for me in non-fullscreen mode after i've switched to a different Space (in Leopard) and back. Have to go into fullscreen and then out of it to make it disappear.

• Safari Full Screen Page Width Customization Feature Missing

Let me explain the title.
In the previous Safari version, when you were in Full Screen viewing mode, you were able to set the width of the webpage you're browsing by hovering the mouse on either left or right edge of the screen, then clicking and dragging the cursor towards the center to set the width for the webpage. Now, in the latest version, this feature seems to be gone.
Now, why would you need this feature, you ask? Simple: some webpages, such as Wikipedia, are coded to always use the browser's full viewing width, thus making the paragraphs really really wide. The problem is that the human eye will have dificulty reading those really wide lines of texts, especially if they're huge paragraphs. Narrower paragraph widths are much easier to read. You can actually test this by viewing a Wikipedia page NOT in the Full Screen mode by comparing a wide Safari window compared to a narrower one. (This is actually the reason why they use narrow text collumns in news papers; easier to read.)
Apple, PLEASE bring that feature back. I don't for the life of me understand why you keep making inferior upgrades to a lot of your products: the Preview app (no more loop when viewing pictures in Full Screen Presentation mode), MacBook Pro Retina & iMacs & Apple Cinema Displays (no Anti-GLARE option) …

I have to agree that it was a very useful feature.
A very smart browser it was...

• How can I get my safari screen to open in full screen mode

My Safari screen open with a small window, can I set it to open in full screen every time I click on Safari

You need to enable the program to resume what it was doing. so go to:
System Preferences > General > Uncheck "Close windows when quitting an application".
then go to safari, size the window how you want it, in your case put it in full screen, and then quit the program. when you open up safari again it should be in full screen view.
Hope that helps!

• How do I view Safari in Full screen?

I am new to Mac and cant seem to find a way to view Safari and other applications in full screen - is this possible?

Hi
Welcome to Apple Discussions and Mac Computing
Bee's suggestion gets you almost there, however, the Bookmarks and Tool Bars are still visible. Download/Install 3rd party add-on Glims. Once installed you'll find Glims preference settings as a separate panel in Safari Preferences. In the Full Screen panel, select the various options, then close preferences.
You'll find the Full Screen command in the Safari Menu. Selecting it opens Full Screen. If you want to revert to the normal screen, hover the cursor near the top of the monitor, The menus will reappear. Then select Safari Menu>Normal Screen.
As you are new to the Mac Platform, you'll find this page useful.
