Safari History flow has gone weird!

I used to get a window with coverflow access to all the history pages. Now when I choose it, I get a translucent black window. The top of the window shows a black smaller window, the lower part is filled with horozontal white lines. At any rate the History flow function is now totally useless.
I emptied cache - no help.
I reset Safari - no help.
Any ideas?

HI,
Quit Safari if it's open. Command + Q
Open a Finder window. Select your home folder in the Sidebar on the left. Now open the Library folder then the Safari folder.
Move the HistoryIndex.sk and History.plist files from the Safari folder to the Trash.
Relaunch Safari. If you still have problems, login to another user account on your Mac. Launch Safari. See if the same thing happens there.

  • Safari extensions window has gone blank

    Hey everyone!
My safari extensions window has gone blank. I have a MacBook Pro running 10.7.4, and I recently downloaded some extensions from the Apple Site.
I've trashed the Library/Safari/Extensions plist folder and re-booted but this has not helped. I can install them but not manage them through the preferences > extensions window. Any advice appreciated.

Have you done disk repair ? Oopen disk utility select the HD then (after turning off all other programs) run Verify Disk, then repair permissions.
I was told when I got my first computer that before installing new, and after installing new software, repair disk permnissions.
    I hope that helps.
You might want to pull stuff out of the trash...

  • My Safari history tab has disappeared from my bookmarks.  How Can I retrieve it?

My History tab in Safari has disappeared from my bookmarks on my iPad 2.  Hw Can I retrieve it

There used to be a setting where you could set limits on the Safari history but those settings are gone now. IIRC, the settings were for 100 items, 150, 200 or something like that. It was a number of items in the history list and not a number of days. Since iOS a devices can sync bookmarks with Safari on your computer now, perhaps, that is where the history limit can be adjusted.
I am not a good judge of how long the history is retained because I erase my history and website data on a fairly regular basis. With the reading list feature and the ability to create a shortcut on the home screen for websites, I don't often find the need to go back to my history for weeks in the past.

only recently has my finder gone weird and now looks like this...

it's not always like this, just sometimes.
    cheers

    tominic,
Go to System Preferences>Sharing and turn File Sharing off...
Or de-select the Applications Folder from File Sharing's Shared Folders (if you need File Sharing on)...
If you're not sure that you need file sharing on, you probably don't, so turn it off for your system's safety.

  • How to recover safari history that has been cleared

    I have a 2012 iMac running Mavericks OSX 10.9.4 4GB 1333 MHZ
I frequent a social network site that hosts photos, private mail conversations and blog discussions.
I use an app " safari cache explorer" that will very quickly look at the cache files from the browser history and give me the option to view the line items as plain text, web page, or image. The plain text view is not really that readable so I would like any suggestion on how to convert that part to something more useful. The items that can be viewed as web pages are perfect and appear exactly as the did when I was on that webpage.
Here is my problem. If the clear history function has been used in safari that explorer app has nothing to look at and sometimes I need to go back and find a preveiously viewed webpage. I am using time machine to backup to a Seagate backup plus drive and I have read at least several online discussions as well as everything on this community board on how to recover to recover to recover those files. There have been several  highly detailed explinations on how to accomplish this task but not one has worked.
Is it possible to retrive the history.plist, cache plist or whatever is needed to see those web pages from a week or two ago in a manner that they are usable?
If so what are the exact instructions on doing this task. A procedure that actually works would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Safari/History.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Quit the application if it's running. Enter Time Machine and restore the selected item from a snapshot that predates the unwanted changes. Relaunch the application and test.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Itunes has gone weird.

I updated to the latest version of itunes and since then I have a problem with sound on playback. I can play music tracks with no problem at all. The problem is with music videos and tv programs. The sound  has a warbling effect, sounds garbled and is out of sync big time.
Everything was perfectly okay before I updated, but now I am mystified. Any ideas?
Windows media player and media monkey play music without any problems.

What country are you in (music can't be redownloaded in all countries), you haven't changed countries since buying it, it's still in the store (rights-holder occasionally remove their items) and it's not hidden : iTunes Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases ?

  • My Safari page has gone dark and is totally inactive - how do I get it active again?

My Safari page has gone inactive.  How do I reactivate the main Safari page?

Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cache (and Clear History)
If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

safari screen has gone blank and seems to be hanged

    Saji-
Can you still access your Bookmarks at the top of the Safari screen?  If so, select it and choose History.  Then click Clear History at the top of the History window.
If that does not help, double-click the Home button.  A row of recent Apps will line up along the bottom of the screen.  Scroll across and find Safari.  Press and hold on it until it starts to wiggle.  Then click on the red minus sign to remove it from the list.  Click the Home button to stop the wiggling and again to return to the Home screen.  Now see if Safari is working any better.
If still no improvement, try resetting (rebooting) the iPad.  Hold both the Home and Sleep buttons for several seconds until the Apple logo appears.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" arrow.  The iPad will restart after a couple of minutes.  Resetting this way will not hurt anything, and sometimes clears up mysterious problems.

  • Screenshots in cover flow of Safari history are empty. Why? Who knows?

Screenshots in cover flow of Safari history are empty. Whereas all history is visible. Why? Who knows?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.  The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • In Safari, history has disappeared.  How do I get it back?

In Safari, History has disappeared.  How do I get it back?

Try quitting Safari completely and then reboot your iPad.
Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button twice.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Safari has gone very slow

    Hi there
I have an iPod touch and have found that safari has gone really slow. It takes ages to load the page and zoom in and out also scrolling up and down. It al started when I let my kids aged 11 and 9 used it.  They where not as careful as me when using it but I was supervising and they did not drop it or anything. I have rebooted it then reset it to factory settings in iTunes. I have taken off the apps that they put on there but it made no difference. It has been fine since ios 4 update came out so it had nothing to do with that. I always thought that safari was quite quick but now its unusable on some sites, manly sites with moving images. It is like there is not enough ram any more. I know its not the modem as the two computers that i have are just the same, pretty good and there both using safari. Its strange as my mobile phone with android did the same thing about 6 months ago and nether improved. The phone does it on any wifi and mobile network, so again it cant be the modem. Is there any thing I can do with the ipod to speed safari up, or is that it I cant use safari any more and use opera instead?
    Thanks for any help

    thanks both for the repliy
I now its not the network as its fine with everything else. Also I have already tried restoring the ipod with itunes and that didn't make any difference. I have now reset it like you said but that didn't work. Not sure what to do now maybe safari just want work like it use to. I forgot to say it is a second gen ipod touch so it is quite old now.
Any more help I would be very thankful for.

  • Safari display has gone nuts

Yesterday my Safari display has gone nuts.  Just displays a long list of items on the website....no graphics and the links don't work. Every site is the same.
    I did a restart.....I did a shutdown....still the same.
    Firefox works fine.
I tried to find a download to reinstall Safari but no luck.
How can I get Safari working again?
    thanx
    Peachie

Well, I only have one extension: AdBlock.  I disable that and now it works fine...everything is loading.
But it used to work fine with adblock enabled.  What has changed?
Without Adblock I find Safari difficult to use.
    Thanx for your reply.
