Safari history sync

HI
i found on my iPhone 4s , on safari history many adult sites saved in the history that I didn't recognize , I've never visited any of these sites , no one has an access to my phone , but I shared my Apple ID with someone , so could he browsing these sites and his safari history is shared on my mobile , I know that safari does not share history on your devices so what's the reasonable answer to this

I didn't say that you felt my story was unreasonable. And why would erasing the history not be a solution to getting rid of the history. Or are you not looking for that, but rather looking for how it got there? Someone, had to have visited the sites on the device.

  • ICloud Safari History not syncing across my devices with Yosemite and iOS 8

I have a MacBook Pro with the latest update of Yosemite installed, an iPad 2 with iOS 8.1.1, an iPhone 6 with iOS 8.1.1 and other things seem to be syncing like my bookmarks, reading list, and all other iCloud data as well as iMessages and text messages. But the one thing that does not seem to be syncing is my browsing history in Safari. This is supposed to be a new feature of Yosemite and iOS 8 and it is working for a friend of mine but not me.
How can I fix this? I've tried going into iCloud settings on all three devices and turning off Safari sync and then turning it back on but no luck.

I spoke with Apple support again this weekend. The first support specialist told me that Safari browsing history was not a feature at this time. When I sent a screenshot of the notes of what updated in Safari 8.0.2 on December 11, 2014 from the AppStore, I got transferred to a senior support specialist. They had me try things like log out of icloud and then reset my network settings on my devices. But that unfortunately did not work. My next step which I did not have time to do, is to see if it is my iCloud account by creating a new iCloud account, logging out of iCloud and then resetting my network settings and then logging into iCloud with the new iCloud account and see if Safari history syncs.
I'm not sure what they will do for me if it is my iCloud account because I have so much on that account and have email addresses that I don't want to lose. And if it isn't the iCloud account they said it is probably my devices but I am not sure what they will have me do to try to fix it if it is. Set them up as new? I don't really want to do that, it takes forever to get everything back on the device.

  • Safari iCloud History Sync not working

    Good morning,
I've read on forums, people annoyed by the sync of Safari History between iPhone, Mac, etc
On my Mac (clean install) of Yosemite and iPhone 6 (clean install) iOS 8.1, it seems Safari doesn't sync the history.
Although, tabs, reading list and bookmarks are synced.
    Any idea?
    Regards,

    Hello Phliangosx and iPhone 236545,
The only solution I've found so far was to create a brand new iCloud ID. I transferred everything from my old account, and in I set a transfer options to get the emails from my old account.
The problem may happen because I've made a clean install on my devices, without login out to iCloud. So there was "ghosts" but normally they disappear within 14 days. Otherwise you have to wait 90 days, for Apple to delete any device from iCloud completely if you don't use it for 90 days.
I really think it comes from the issue to have "ghosts" or something like that, what makes me say that is the fact that all my friends where the history sync well, only did an update on their iOS devices and Mac. And people I know with clean installed, it doesn't sync history.
If you want it to work right now, without waiting 90 days, create a new iCloud ID.

  • Shared safari history

    HI
i found on my iPhone 4s , on safari history many adult sites saved in the history that I didn't recognize , I've never visited any of these sites , no one has an access to my phone , but I shared my Apple ID with someone , so could he browsing these sites and his safari history is shared on my mobile , I know that safari does not share history on your devices so what's the reasonable answer to this

I thought you were referring to the "history" you see on the tabs list.  This will include more than just open tabs from an iOS device; it will include all tabs that have not been cleared, which can sometimes go back quite a while depending on your browsing frequency.  (My tabs list includes 24 sites, and all appear as iCloud tabs on my other devices.)  If you are referring to the history folder inside the Bookmarks section on your phone, then that should only reflect sites previously visited on your phone (i.e., it doesn't include sites visited by other devices sharing the account).  Syncing browsing history will be a new feature of iOS 8 later this fall.

  • Deleting Safari History Items with Restrictions Set

    Hi All,
My daughter's iPad mini has restrictions set to 'limit adult content'. One of the apparent benefits of this was the the 'Clear' button on Safari history and 'Private Browsing Mode' were disabled. I was then able to periodically audit the history to check nothing untoward. I could also temporarily remove restrictions to clear the history before re-enabling them.
However, I have just noticed that if you swipe left on an item in history, you are given the option to delete - without removing Restrictions first.
Is this expected behaviour or has a particular update caused this? Is there a setting to prevent history deletion?
    Many Thanks,

You can clear just history on iOS 8, but there's no analogous easy way to do it in Yosemite.
For Yosemite, to clear history manually, you must:
Go to Safari's History -> Show History
Click in the History window and Select All (Command-A or Edit -> Select All)
    Press "Delete"
Note that due to cacheing and the fact that History may now be synced across devices via iCloud, you may need to repeat steps 2 and 3 multiple times before you delete all History items.
For iOS 8, display History, tap "Clear" and choose the option you prefer.

  • My Safari history tab has disappeared from my bookmarks.  How Can I retrieve it?

My History tab in Safari has disappeared from my bookmarks on my iPad 2.  Hw Can I retrieve it

There used to be a setting where you could set limits on the Safari history but those settings are gone now. IIRC, the settings were for 100 items, 150, 200 or something like that. It was a number of items in the history list and not a number of days. Since iOS a devices can sync bookmarks with Safari on your computer now, perhaps, that is where the history limit can be adjusted.
I am not a good judge of how long the history is retained because I erase my history and website data on a fairly regular basis. With the reading list feature and the ability to create a shortcut on the home screen for websites, I don't often find the need to go back to my history for weeks in the past.

  • Why is my iphone 5 safari history found in another person's iphone 5?

Both my mom and I uses Iphone 5. I had let her login to my itunes in her phone to let her download stuff and I didnt log out of it but i don't use iCloud either. So today, my mom asked me to help her search some things on the internet and passed me her phone. i was surprised to see all my current history in her phone. I tried deleting the history but it was still there. the only way i managed to get rid of it was to delete the cache. It was really surprising as she had the phone for 3 months and I am afraid that she might have actually seen some personal history in my phone. She is an IT idiot, so i doubted that she had actually planted a bug onto my phone to spy on me. I believe it was something to do with the itunes account but could not verify anything. Has anybody encountered this before? I am not sure if logging out of itunes on my phone will break the connection, i do hope that somebody can help me fix this. thank you.

You're both using the same Apple ID for iCloud, & one of the things you can keep in sync is Safari history/tabs on all of the devices that use the same Apple ID for iCloud. Read here:

  • How to recover safari history from time machine?

    Hi guys,
I need your help ... I use time machine for the backup and I cancelled the history of Safari few days ago and now I need to recover it.
Where and how can I find it among the time machine files?
I have already read some suggestions in the web that told me to find it in the user/Library/Safari/History but I can't find any Safary folder in my Library :-(
    Many thanks in advance

Triple-click the text on the line below to the clipboard, then copy it to the Clipboard (command-C):
    ~/Library/Safari/History.plist
Quit Safari. Disable Safari synchronization in iCloud, if applicable.
    Select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the Finder menu bar. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A folder window should open with a file named "History.plist" selected. Restore the file from a backup that predates the unwanted changes. If you disabled sync, re-enable it and test.

  • Iphone 6 Safari history saved on yosemite

I bought a new iMac and iPhone 6 Plus. I am in real estate and need to keep a history of browsing so I can record of views of homes I have shown to clients and iMessages to clients so I have a record of all information conveyed to clients in case of sales retraction. How do I set up Yosemite for the iMac to do this using the continuity features or a 3rd party tool to automatically record this?

In Safari Preferences, there is a "Remove history items:" item. You can set it to manually.
New to OS X Yosemite, your history syncs across machines.
That said, I think Safari would probably slow down if you tried to store 2 years' worth of history. You may need a better way than Safari history to track this.

  • Separate Safari history by device in yosemite

I use the same iCloud account at work and for my private computer and iPhone. With OS 10.10 and continuity, history of websites visited in Safari is now shared between all devices in one single list. Is there a way to stop this and keep each history to its own device? I still want my iPhone and my individual Macs to each remember sites I visited (therefore, private browsing is not an option), I just don't want to see them across devices (iCloud tabs are sufficient). Thanks for any suggestion.

The funny thing, I try to get the exact same thing you have (syncing Safari history) between my MacBook Pro Retina on 10.10 and my iPhone 6 on iOS 8.1.
Although they are both signed in with the same iCloud ID, everything is synced, tabs, favorites, reading lists but not history
We should change our devices haha

  • How do I retrieve my cleared safari history on iphone?

How do I retrieve my cleared safari history on iphone? I accidentally clicked clear cookies and data as well, so everything is basically gone and there are very important stuff that I NEED to recover. I tried to do the settings>safari>adavanced>website data, but nothing worked, because since I cleared cookies as well, everything's just gone.

You restore the phone using a backup made before you cleared it. If you don't have a backup from when it was present, then it's gone.

  • Search syntax for Safari history? how to remove items from specific pages?

I'm using Safari 5.0.3 and I prefer keeping the browsing history quite long for accessing contents I had been searching in the net some weeks ago.
However, that way I'm collecting lots of clutter and therefore I'd like to remove selected entries from the history, e. g. from the page where I'm reading daily news etc.
I tried to use the search field (accessible with Cmd-F in the history view) to search for parts of the corresponding web address, e. g. "http://www.heute.de", but I do not only get the history items from that site but many others from google and other pages.
So I'd like to know: is there a search syntax to use the search field, like address=www.heute.de* which enables wild cards, operators like OR/AND etc.?
If not, is there a 3rd party tool which can help or can I use spotlight/the finder to find and remove the unwanted items from the browser history?

    Hi beckmart
there might be ready-made apps or add-ons to do that - but this may help...
quit safari, open Home/Library/Safari/History.plist using PrefSetter
enter the url you want removed in the search box, no need for quotes - say www.google.com
expand the 'web history dates' section at left to see individual results, then select the first one & shift-click the last (don't use select all) to highlight/select all the results - then press the delete key to remove them. Then save the file.
Naturally, a backup copy of history.plist would be wise - but the above seems to work very well.

  • How did old Safari History Items I haven't visited in years appear recently?

I upgraded to Mountain Lion on Saturday October 13th. I then ran software updates, and got everything up to date. I was home alone, and the only thing I went to YouTube for was to get guidance for setting up Facebook and Twitter notifications. That's it. Today, using spotlight, some Safari History Items appeared for October 13th, 2012 for sites I haven't visited in years. However, none of them show up in my Safari Histroy. What gives?
Please help! I'm being accused of looking at inappropriate material when I didn't.
I'm at a loss to explain what really happened. Any concrete help will be greatly appreciated

Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari/History
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select Services ▹ Open from the contextual menu. Delete the contents of the folder that opens. Quit and relaunch Safari.

  • Safari history - how to restore from Time Capsule?

    Background...
I couldn't open Safari today (beachballing with no window opening whatsoever), presumed the "com.apple.Safari.plist" file was corrupted so deleted it from "~/Library/Preferences", and restored a copy using Time Machine from my Time Capsule from yesterday before I had the issue. Safari settings from yesterday restored and working.
    However...
My Safari History going back 2 years has deleted to just one month ago! How can I restore these from a previous Time Capsule backup? Is it just "History.plist" file from "~/Library/Safari" that needs to be restored, or also the one titled "HistoryIndex.sk" in the same location, and/or any others?
Also, do I need to restart machine after restoring all files needed, or should the history show immediately after just relaunching Safari?
Note: I tried doing the "History.plist" one only, yet still just get the one month of history showing. This is really urgent as I have sites in my 2 year browsing history I need to get to again!
Help very very gratefully received :-\

Though I am still finding that with circa 2 years worth of history, they may be starting to delete from the back-end after a while; so I presume there may be a theoretical max amount of sites and/or dates Safari will keep in there regardless of setting "Manually" for history deletion.
I doubt there's a maximum size specific to the History plist, but that (or corruption of it) would be the only limitation. And yes, plists do get corrupted with some frequency.
And I don't know, either, what would happen if the plist got to a maximum; whether you'd get a message, or it would drop the oldest entries.
That must be a huge+ file after 2 years! It's a bit surprising that it hasn't gotten corrupted before.
If your browsing history is that important, I'd suggest finding some other way to keep it that long, such as bookmarking the critical sites. That would take much less room (and be less subject to corruption) than the history of every site you've ever visited, every time.
And/or, there might be a 3rd-party app that would help. I don't know of any, but it might be worthwhile to look for one.
