Safari Homepage Default Problem

Even when I set up Safari preferences for my desired homepage, Safari does not default to it when I reboot.  Any solution to this?

You may have installed one of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
Malware is also found on websites that traffic in pirated content such as video. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates
if it's not already checked.

  • How do I get rid of Chinese websites on Safari homepage

I was recently in Asia.  Now that I am in the States, I see that my Safari homepage has about six Chinese search engines on it.  I don't know how to get rid of them.  Any solutions?

this might be a problem possibly caused by adware on your pc. please go to ''firefox > addons > extensions'' & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc). also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there and do a full scan of your system with the security software that you have in place and different other tools like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes] & [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner].

  • Dreamweaver CS3 + Safari for Windows problems

    Hello
Well first off I would like to Thank Apple for making a Version of Safari that runs on Windows. As a web developer (using DW CS3 for Windows) I always had to upload a test webpage to a server, look at it on a Mac, and go back to Windows to make adjustments. Now I can do it all in Windows.
I am having a problem with previewing a page on my local machine. When I preview in Safari it just opens my Safari Homepage. I have to preview in Firefox, copy the URL, and paste it into Safari to view my page in Safari.
I don't know if this is a Dreamweaver issue or Safari issue. Any help at all would be great. Thank you.

    Thanks, Sarah.
My post went out before I was finished. Then tried editing it, during which you replied. My reply to you was then lost, because I'm not allowed to edit... Sorry.
I have been busy figuring out what Safari for Windows will and won't play back through tedious trial and error. It did leave me insecure as to the reliability of AE's output; hence my question. But with this news, I guess it makes more sense for me to just leave it, and hope Safari for Windows users will figure to get another browser, right? Or wait.. maybe I could put in a message that will show to those users...
    Thanks again & all best,
    Phil

  • How do i keep UK Safari as default?

I am form the UK and everytime i open Safari it comes up the US version. When i change to the UK version it does work but as soon as i exit safari and return, its back to the US verion, how do i keep the UK Safari as default?

Install Glims: http://www.machangout.com/ and you'll be able to change the default search engine. Also has plenty of other features designed to improve Safari. I use it with no problems.

  • What is the safari homepage for yosemite

what is the safari homepage for yosemite

It can be anything you want it to be. In Safari, go to the "Safari" menu and choose Preferences, and in the General section you should see a Homepage setting that will hold the address to your current home page. You can click the "Set to Current Page" button if you want the current Web page to be your home page, or you can delete the address to set this to nothing. The behavior of new windows and tabs is then set using the two menus above this setting, where you can have a new window or tab open with your Favorites (the default), your home page setting, an empty page, or the same page as the current window (ie, duplicate the current view in another window or tab).

EDITremoved funky display of quoted OP
please verify your iMac [ year and specs - processor, RAM ] and OS X 10.6.8 is correct
    Safari version?
    Google Chrome version?
Is this a sudden behavior? If so, when did it start? Last worked on date? Failed on date?
I must tell you that this website is a monster... in my Safari v4.1.3 in Developer Mode tracking it took 5.8 minutes to finish FAILING to load ±245 items, until it finally cancelled -  ±25 Alerts - at which time, the site's reload script started the doomed process all over again.
Google Chrome = do not use so I will assume that it has similar difficulties
I did have success loading the page (seemingly fully) with Firefox (TenFourFox 31.1.1) BUT it took ±3 minutes to complete loading! During the 3 minutes, the page display 're-painted' twice (blank > redraw - not the same as a reload). The reload script reloaded the page at ±5 minutes.
Watching the progress of loading, there are VERY many assets on that page that require other sites to deliver the content, some quick some sluggish.
With a browser that can handle &/or ignore all the funky code being presented, one could not "Read the paper" for more than a couple of minutes - tops - before the reload "Snatched the paper out of your hand".
** As a comparison, I went to http://www.nytimes.com/ - readable in ±5 seconds, scrollable in ±10 and finished loading in ±20.
Conclusion: Safari & Chrome are likely not the problem - any version will likely fail. A tougher browser is only usable for 2 minutes.
Have you considered contacting theaustralian.com.au and asked them what they deem to be "minimum system requirements" ?
The website is the culprit here. Time to hit the newsstand or change papers.
    best luck

  • Firefox was working on my new iMac but then, after switching on recently, won't connect to the web – whereas Safari has no problem.

    Hi
I bought an iMac a week ago and installed Firefox via Safari. It worked fine for a while but, after a recently switching on, it won't connect to the web whereas Safari has no problems.
I've tried following the Firefox Help, looking into the iMac firewall, but still no luck.
I've no idea whether related or not but yesterday I had a system glitch where the iMac stated no wi-fi was installed and only connected via a physical lead to my house router. Also, there was no sound output via Safari. However, after booting up today all seems well – apart from Firefox still not working. It loads the start page but can't access the web.
I have Little Snitch running, and wonder if that's the culprit... but it's working fine with Safari, seemingly.
(Finally, how do I stop a dialogue box appearing on start-up saying that "To open “X” you need a Java runtime. Would you like to install one now?)
    Any ideas anyone?
    Cheers

On the wireless networks that your Mac has had trouble connecting to, do you know which Wireless Security type (WEP, WPA, or WPA2) is being used?
If it is WEP, one of the problems is that the actual standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.   In order to make things easier, vendors use certain algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling the use of simple easy to remember WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys. The problem is that different vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a ASCII password on an AEBS will be hashed differently on a non-Apple client and vice versa.   You may find the following Apple Support article helpful.

  • Changing Safari's default mail app...

Anybody know how to change Safari's default mail app??
I don't use Apple Mail, I prefer Entourage and I would love to have it as the default mail app in Safari. When I hit command + I or command + Shift + I , I want Entourage to open, not Mail. Is there any way to do this?
Methods that don't involve going under the bonnet (hood for you Americans) would be preferred.
...but if I must go under the bonnet/hood then I wouldn't mind setting the google bar to go to Google.co.uk not .com
    Any suggestions?
    Cheers,
    Gaberdine

Thanks Ferd II, that's fixed it. And it was painless
It never ocurred to me that I might set my default mail app from within Mail... because I never open it except for when Safari opened it by default (grrr).
I thought I might have to use a hack or Terminal (that's what I meant by going under the bonnet (hood)really) but it turns out to be so simple if you only know how - and that's the absolute joy of these forums.
I suspect changing the default localisation for the Google search bar in Safari would be more complex however...
    Cheers,
    Gaberdine
Edit: For anybody anybody else who sets Entourage as their default mail app; be aware that it doesn't permit mailing a whole webpage from Safari (Command + I) only the link to the page (Command + Shift + I). Try it and you'll get an alert recommending you use Apple Mail. lol

  • Hi, after I installed IOS 7, my safari homepage is shown in Chinese. How to change it to English?

Hi, after I installed IOS 7, my safari homepage is shown in Chinese. How to change it to English?

    Hi everyone,
I just ran across this issue myself. Very odd to say the least. The language seems fine everywhere except the "favorites" which appear when you open Safari without a current website open. (kind of similar to where a home page would appear). These are not the same as all of your bookmarks, they are more of a "bookmarks bar" equilvalent that you would see when opening a new tab.
I tried it all to fix this, only to find that Apple is currently investigating the issue.
For those having this issue, you can call AppleCare, (even if you are out of warranty, since this is an iOS 7 issue, atleast for US and Canada customers) to get assistance. 1-800-APL-CARE for US and Canadian customers. It seems Apple's Engineering team is collecting data on this issue right now, though I am not aware of exactly what is being employeed to fix it.
If you don't want to call AppleCare or visit an Apple Store, I will say from personal experience that all of the basic troubleshooting steps failed to fix this issue.
It seems you may want to consider creating an iCloud or iTunes backup. I would also strongly recommend that you sync with iTunes, transfer your purchases in iTunes, and import your camera roll to a computer. And then restoring your device as new using iTunes. And after the restore try restoring from your iTunes or iCloud backup. This should take care of it.
However in extreme cases, it can take restoring and setting up as a new device (and syncing all the data you can back instead of using any kind of backup) to resolve stubborn issues, when they are based in your settings or content.
I hope this helps a little.

  • HT1338 Why can I not make Safari my default browser? I did what it said to click on it and accept, but it does not happen.

This is my question.  Why can't I make Safari my default browser.  I have followed directions, but it does not happen.

Not sure what procedure you are describing, but...
In Safari preferences General tab, for the Default web browser setting, select Safari.

Hello Albert, see how many of these you can answer...
See if the Disk is issuing any S.M.A.R.T errors in Disk Utility...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH7029
Open Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities, select All Processes & sort on CPU%, any indications there?
How much RAM & free space do you have also, click on the Memory & Disk Usage Tabs.
Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.
In the Memory tab, are there a lot of Pageouts?

  • Safari as default browser

Since making Safari my default browser (which I love) I cannot open my itunes from the desktop and i I keep getting "Safari cannot find the Internet plug-in" message.
for Shock-wave making it unable for me to view Youtube.

Looks that by default Apple are insisting that the updater keeps asking you to install Safari on windows. I opened the updater, went to tools and then turned off automatic updater. I also unchecked the install Safari option.
What a down right cheek Apple has to try to sneak this browser onto my system. I'm happy to manually update from now on if that's the way Apple wants to do things. And everyone always has a go at Microsoft for doing the same thing.

  • Safari load image problem with iMac Intel core

I got my new iMac 20" Intel core and system updated everything. I found that Safari cannot load image in my web photo album ( http://fotop.net/nicknick ), all image became "?".
I can load this page correctly with FireFox and Opera Browser. I also try the iMac 17" PowerPC in my office with the latest version Safari, it also load the album correctly. And I know this web is created and store in a Linux server, the web page coding not written or optimized to IE.
I've try to reinstall the whole OS X, nothing else installed, the same problem occurred.
Is it the problem on Intel core? or any setting I can do to overcome it?
Hope the problem could be solve, I like to use Safari except this problem.
iMac 20" Intel core   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Well... no - except to ask if your intel imac is connected to the internet in exactly the same way as the ppc imac. If it is, then that's puzzling
You're right, I'm puzzled by the imac.
    Intel imac is at my home, ppc imac is at my office;
both using same ISP but different service plan,
(home:) PPPoE, ADSL modem -> buffalo MIMO wireless router -> intel imac (both direct wire or wireless connect have same result)
(office:) fixed-ip, ADSL modem -> firewall -> Linksys wireless router -> ppc imac (wireless)
both network setting with manual assigned IP, gateway and same DNS
Same result occurred when (1)open box new machine, (2)after updated system, (3)reinstall whole OS with preserve the old setting, (4)reinstall whole OS with erase the whole harddisk option, (5)updated system after the reinstallation.
I firstly think may be some security setting in imac that blocked the images, but can't found out. I secondly think some html code at this web not work on Safari.
May someone with same machine help to open this web to see if all intel imac get the same result?

  • Safari is having problem loading messages in gmail. When using other browsers, there is no problem loading and viewing the messages. What is going on? please help!

safari is having problem loading messages in gmail. When using other browsers, there is no problem loading and viewing the messages. What is going on? please help!

I should have explained further. The game opens in a new window over to the upper left of my screen, leaving the original page underneath. I tried minimizing it so that I could get to my toolbar and did the View > Zoom > Reset. This has no effect. The lower portion of the game is still not showing. Using other browsers the window or frame of the game is much larger, therefore everything shows.
