Safari (iBook G3)

Hiya Folks...
I've now managed to get hold of an old Air Port base station and am running this via the ethernet port on my Virgin Hub.
My iBook is connecting to it beautifully, but is still not automatically changing the time and date and when I use Safari, I get the message 'Safari can't find the server'.
Clearly, there's still a connection issue somewhere...
When I initially set up the Mac, it asked me for the DHCP Client ID?
What is this and where can I find it on my iBook? Maybe this is the missing set up info which is causing me the problems?
MANY thanks...
David.

You only need a DHCP Client ID if the ISP (in your case Virgin) requires it. And if they do, they would have advised you of this requirement with their setup information. And, this ID would be set in the Airport base station - not in the Mac, as it is the Airport that is acquiring an IP address from Virgin.
The typical configuration of the Airport base station for this setup is to run in NAT or Network Address Translation. In this mode, it provides local network addresses for all devices connecting to it, whether via wireless or one of the other Ethernet ports (not the one that connects to your ISP hub). These local addresses are typically in the 10.0.1.x IP range. So once the Airport is configured correctly for the ISP, then all you need to be enabling on the Mac is DHCP. It should then acquire an IP address like 10.0.1.5.
If you open System Preferences > Network and select the Airport entry, what IP address is your Mac using? And can you also confirm what subnet mask and router address is set in the Mac.

  • Why are several Apple apps crashing after update to IOS5? Safari, Appstore and iBooks all crash Frequently :-(

Sine I updated to IOS 5.0.1 my iPad(version 1) crashes quite often.
Especially when using Safari, Ibooks and Appstore.
It is quite frustrating and I have  feeling that there are memory leaks.
Would be good to know if Apple are working on these problems.

Well, I have an iPad 2 3G 32GB end I can say ios 5 is PERFECT, really never seen an appstore app crashing!(200 apps + games installed), the only system app crashing sometimes is Safari, very rarely.
Os works very fast, notification center is awsome, the battery is good.
    Its perfect!
iOS 5 on the iPad 1 of ipad different story, AppStore apps crashing all the time, settings apps crashing, reminders crashing. bad Battery 3-4 h! VERY slow.Rubbish!
I guess what I'm trying to say is, the old ipad its slow end crashes, and so, if you want better, you upgrade.

  • T open PDF created with Adobe X on Ipad

Created PDFusing Adobe AcrobatX Pro in itunes library on computer transfered to ipad cannot open receiving error message that Apple does not permit downloading Acrobat Reader.

You can't download applications in Safari. Only the apps in the app store work on the iPad.
You created a pdf in iTunes? How did you transfer the pdf? A properly created/saved pdf file should open as an attachment in mail, Safari, iBooks and many other compatible third party apps.

  • Trouble showing special characters on pdf s on ipad

Hi. My ipad doesnt show some special characters (like omega). The is a problem when opening a pdf in safari, ibooks and goodreader, i.e. everywhere i try. Please, I need a solution since the ability to show pdf including those signs is why we got ipad at our company.

Please, I need a solution since the ability to show pdf including those signs is why we got ipad at our company.
I think the only solution is for you to try to get your material in another format, like .doc or .html, or modify the way the pdf's are created. Whether your current pdf's are made in some unusual way or iOS lacks something they need is hard to know. To tell Apple about the problem go here:

  • Unable to open PDFs in received e-mail (Outlook)?

Unable to open PDFs received in Outlook (Office for Mac 2011).  Adobe XI message displayed says "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired."  Same PDFs attached to same mail messages open fine on iPad or iPhone. What could be the problem?

    ivone dos santos,
Do you see a message like this when you open one of your PDF documents?
Your PDF document is a special type of form called a "dynamic XFA form".  The message is displayed when a dynamic content is not supported by a PDF viewer.
As far as I know, no PDF viewers for iOS and Android mobile devices support dynamic XFA forms.  Here are the examples of the iOS apps that do not support dynamic XFA forms.
    Adobe Reader for iOS
    Mail
    Safari
    iBooks
The PDF preview feature in Dropbox and other apps
The message is trying to tell you to use the latest desktop version of Adobe Reader, not the mobile version of Adobe Reader.  I agree that the sentence, "You can upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Reader...", is somewhat misleading.  The message is baked into the dynamic XFA form that was authored by Adobe LiveCycle (desktop app) without regard for non-desktop apps (i.e. mobile apps).  Upgrading to the latest version of Adobe Reader for iOS would not help in this case.
Currently, the only option to view and fill out dynamic XFA forms is to use the desktop version of Adobe Reader.
    Sorry for the confusion.

  • Apps crash very often. System reboots.

    Hello,
Problem is that applications very often crash.
The most: Safari, iBooks, GoodReader, Numbers, Pages.
App closes and the system returns to the main screen, not saving the changes that took place during use of the application.
Very often when pdf file is opened, it freezes the application (doesnt matter in which it is opened), and the iPad seems to be warmer than usually.
In addition, from time to time the device reboots - Apple logo shows and system restarts.
The iPad Air is 32 GB with cellular, the amount of free space on it is always over 2 gb, and closing other applications also does not help.
Please help or advice me, how I can improve stability of my device.
    Sincerely,
    Marco

  • Mac Keyboard Shortcuts

Edge Code seems pretty useless if it doesn't support standard Mac keyboard shortcuts and conventions. For instance, Command-e is supposed to load the selected text into the system-wide "find", so that any subsequent Command-g will "Find Again" that text in any Cocoa-based app that supports searchable text (such as Mail, BBEdit, Safari, iBooks (somewhat), Notes, etc. In Edge Code Preview, command-e does something else entirely.
Plus, drag and drop of text is not even supported. Come on, seriously?!?
Basically, this is like using a software program from before OS7, in the late 90s.

Thanks for the explanation. I wasn't aware of that functionality. Sounds interesting.
    > if you don't even support the standard Command-E
It's supported. It's just a different keyboard shortcut key: Cmd-Shift-B
No, Cmd-Shift-B just seems to be "Find Again whatever is currently selected". It doesn't change what I am finding in other apps, and "Command-G" doesn't find-again what I selected and did Command-E on in other apps. That is slightly similar, within its own silo, but is far from supporting "the standard Command-E".
    > regular expression "grep" searches, searching with or without case sensitivity
    Both supported in Brackets.
OK, I didn't recognize that in the UI until now, and it's weird to have to use a different command to get to "Replace", but I'll give you this one.
    > changing the case of the selection, viewing invisible character
    Supported as Extensions
    > finding and changing differences in 2 side-by-side files one line at a time
Brackets does not yet have "diff" support, but that's better handled as an extension, anyway.
I disagree, but I guess being able to cobble together fuller functionality from a bunch of independently written extension modules is better than nothing. Are you going to build in a way to browse the catalog of extensions?
Thanks for your feedback. Yes, there's a lot more we want to implement in Brackets. Stay tuned.
    OK

  • Downloading an epub

This is the story of my tribulations in attempting to open an epub file:
1 - E-mail epub to myself (on PC or iPod, or whatever)
2 - use GMail app to "open" epub (brought to a white screen)
3 - "open in Safari" option (filetype unsupported)
4 - open mail with iPod mail option
5 - acceidentally archive mail in an attempt to open the attachment
6* - (various steps to unarchive mail)
7 - open file attachment (filetype not supported)
8 - download 3rd part epub reader (Nook)
9 - 3rd party app does not support download of mail attachments
    10 - remove 3rd party app
    11 - install iPod-default option (iBooks)
12 - go to Gmail app, open attachment (iBook option not present)
13 - go to Mail app, open attachment "open in iBooks" (nothing happens)
14* - wait, is it downloading?  ***?  Nope, it is a failure
15* - research issue on internet
16 - download another 3rd party app (BlueFire)
17 - open in Mail app, Open with anything not ibooks, open with BlueFire
    18* - wait... failure
19 - open BlueFire, bypass some nonsense about linking accounts or whatever
20 - open mail in GMail app
    21 - open attachment
    22 - open in Safari
23 - file unsupported by Safari -> Open in another application
    24 - Open in non-iBooks application (BlueFire)
25 - BlueFire opens the file into the BlueFire library or whatever
26 - Open file in BlueFire (woo!)
    27 - remove iBooks
Seriously, it took me over 20 minutes to open an ePub file that I E-mailed to myself.  I am a Research Scientist who used to program computers for a living, working on my PhD.  This should not be that hard.  The opening of an ePub required the use of SEVEN applications (Store, Gmail, Mail, Safari, iBooks, Nook, BlueFire).  Nook and iBooks are both abortions that I couldn't get to work.  Mail does some sort of ePub-mangling so that nothing can be opened.  As such, if I were to do this process again, it would look like the following:
1 - Use Store to download BlueFire
2 - open mail in GMail (not Mail)
    3 - open attachment
4 - open attachment in Safari
5 - open Safari item in BlueFire
The solution that works still uses FOUR apps (Store, GMail, Safari, BlueFire), and four steps (assuming you have the relevant apps).  This requires that the user steer carefully away from Apple-provided solutions (iBooks, Mail), as they don't seem to work at all.
Dear Apple: please make the opening of a book-type file simpler.

Install Calibre on your PC.  Is the epub even readable via calibre on your PC.  Or perhaps it is encrypted.
If encrypted, then you need to use the app suggested by the publisher of the ebook.
You can transfer epub books to iBooks via iTunes on your PC (there is a 'Books' tab in iTunes on the Summary screen when your iPod Touch is connected to your PC.  Then sync your iPod Touch with iTunes on your PC and the ebook will be included in the iBook app.
Many ebook readers can use iTunes to sync books from your PC to your iPod Touch.  iTunes -> Your iPod Touch -> Apps -> Scroll to bottom of screen -> File Sharing -> Find your ebook reader in the list of File Sharing Apps (if the ebook reader supports this feature) -> Select your app -> Drag your epub to the Documents section on the right.
Calibre has a way of sync'ing with some ebook readers.
You could also try using Dropbox.com to transfer files to your iPod Touch.  Get a free copy for your PC and a free copy for your iPod Touch.
As for Apple making it easier, they did what they did for music.  They created their own store, and you can buy ebooks from the store, then directly download the ebook to your iPod Touch.  Or you can use iTunes to import ebooks to your iPod Touch, assuming the ebook is in a format that can be read by an app on the iPod Touch, and assuming it is not encrypted with an encryption that does not have a compatible reader.

  • When I long hold a doc open with adobe reader does not appear

When I long tap on a doc to open ; open with adobe reader does not appear

Which app did you start with?  Apple Mail, Safari, iBooks or something else?
Is a PDF document already open in other app?  If so, you can tap the PDF document to display a toolbar in the app.  Do you see the icon like this in the toolbar?
You can tap the icon to open a popup then tap "Open in..." or "Open in Adobe Reader".  You may need to scroll to the right to find the red icon with "Open in Adobe Reader".
In Safari, tap "Open in..." (blue text) in the top toolbar, instead.
If you see something else on the screen, please let us know the name of the app.

  • My apps suddlenly close :(

    Hello everybody!
I have a big little problem, I have an iPod touch 4g with iOS 6.0.1 and three weeks ago my apps like Facebook, Safari, iBooks, Cut the rope, Mail, The amazing Spiderman, Camera +, Temple Run etc. etc. have closed after few seconds open. I don't want to wait for more apps.
The taskbar is empty, I restart my iPod, reset my iPod and restore my iPod like new device and after them I installed the backup. However the problem persists and I'm getting tired of this.
I don't have jailbreak and I have never done it.
So, can you help me please!?
    Thank you!

Restore to factory settings/new iPod, not from backup.
If you restored to factory settings/new iPod and still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem.

  • When will the iPad be able to walk and chew gum at the same time?

Granted yes I know it would chew up a ton of battery power, but will there be a time when the OS will allow you to say listen to something off of the iPod or a video app and say read a book or surf the web at the same time?

You can already listen to music and surf the web/read simultaneously.
Play something from the iPod app and it will continue playing when your using safari/iBooks etc.
Double clicking the home button while doing so brings up the controls for the music.

  • Why cant i fill up a form o adobe?

i opened documents on adobe but i couldnt fill out he form

    shirlyn23,
Here are some possible reasons why you cannot fill out a PDF form. (Note: Below is not an exhaustive list.)
    (a) The PDF form may be opened in other app (not Adobe Reader, such as the preview feature in Apple Mail, Safari, iBooks) that do not support form filling.
What is the app that is currently displaying the PDF form?  Tap anywhere in the PDF form to display the toolbar(s).  Is the color of icon outline "salmon pink" or blue?  If it is not "salmon pink", it means that the PDF form is opened in some other app.
Please see the following FAQ documents to use the "Open in" feature to open the PDF form in Adobe Reader for iOS.
For iPad, see How to open PDF documents in Adobe Reader for iOS (iPad on iOS 7 or 8 version)
For iPhone, see How to open PDF documents in Adobe Reader for iOS (iPhone on iOS 7 or 8 version)
    (b) The PDF form may be the special type of form called a "static" or "dynamic" XFA form that was created with Adobe LiveCycle Designer.
Currently, Adobe Reader mobile products (for iOS, Android, Windows Phone) do not support static or dynamic XFA forms.
    (c) The PDF form may be protected/encrypted.
When you open the PDF form in Adobe Reader for iOS, do you see the highlighting in light blue over form fields?  Tap anywhere in the PDF form to display the toolbars.  Do you see the lock icon in the bottom toolbar?  If so, the PDF form is "locked", which does not allow form filling.
In any case, I'd recommend opening the PDF form in the desktop version of Adobe Reader on a Mac or Windows computer first.
Please let us know if you have additional questions.

  • Is iPad 1 obsolete now that iso6 came out?

Now that ISO 6 came out, is the iPad 1 obsolete? Is there going to be more updates for it or is it stuck at 5.1.1?Will the apps still work in 6 months time?

I agree with the above poster. My partner and I have an iPad 1, but since we've upgraded it to iOS 5 and 6 respectively, all the apple apps (safari, iBooks, etc) would crash every 15 min.  And once you upgraded, Apple does not allow you to downgrade. So Apple has basically turned our original IPads into a brick in a matter of 2 years and here's nothing we can do to turn the iPad into the original factory setting. And now they want several hundreds more from me so I can continue to do what I had intended to do with the original iPad, which is to only browse the internet. Apple's business practice seems sketchy to me... I don't want to keep buying a new iPad every 2 years because the old one turned into a brick.  I was hopon there's be a class action lawsuit by now.  We're now left with considering other cheaper options, nexus 7 or kindle fire.
