Safari iCloud Bookmark on windows

Hi
I'm using Safari on windows and I put the iCloud bookmark in the bookmark's bar. However it show up like this: "iC...ud", but when I try to edit the name the popup box has iCloud in it.
If I change the name to "iClofud", for example, then it show correctly.
Why does it does this?
Regards

Hey I have the same issue.
I tried using "icloud" and it's fine, but "iCloud" shows "iC...d"
I am using Safari 5.1.5 on vista home premium
It's not serious of course, but it's so weird that I'd really love to know why.
Thanks

  • Resetting Safari/iCloud bookmarks

My Safari bookmarks are pretty messed up—lots of duplicates, etc. I want to clean them up, but iCloud keeps setting them back to the messed up version.
I have followed a number of suggestions in the Discussions and the web which basically boil down to this:
    1. Turn of iCloud on all devices, deleting info on iDevices.
    2. Fix up all bookmarks on the mac the way you want them.
    3. Export bookmarks (to save them).
    4. Delete bookmarks.plist. This clears out all bookmarks in Safari, giving a clean slate.
    5. Turn on iCloud for the Mac. Because there are no bookmarks in Safari, this should clean out the bookmarks on iCloud.
    6. Reimport saved bookmarks into Safari. These will upload to iCloud.
    7. Turn iDevices back on. Bookmarks should download from iCloud.
My problem seems to be step 5. Just before turning iCloud back on, my bookmarks are the Safari defaults (i.e., essentially empty). But when I turn on iCloud, instead of iCloud being cleaned out, all the old, unorganized bookmarks that were still on iCloud come back down and repopulate Safari, so I'm back to where I started.
Perhaps the problem is that I don't really understand the iCloud model. If iCloud and a device differ, which gets changed and which remains the same—iCloud or the device? In a way it makes sense that iCloud would download all its information to an empty iDevice; isn't this what you want if you somehow lost all the information on the device, that iCloud would restore it?
In any case, I need to set things up so that iCloud is set to the current state of my Mac's Safari, either with its default bookmarks or the set of fixed ones. Any suggestions on why the method above fails?

Hi Linc: I eventually figured that out—if you delete all bookmarks, one by one, as you're connected to iCloud they will delete on iCloud and everywhere else.
I think I got confused from the second link's seeming emphasis on dragging out Bookmarks.plist (Step 14). My thought was that this was being done to easily clear out the bookmarks so that they didn't all have to be erased one at a time. But now I don't see any reason to do it at all.
So it really boils down to this:
    1. Turn off iCloud on every device, deleting on iDevices.
    2. Fix up bookmarks the way you like on your mac. Safari Prairiefire can help, or you can do it by hand.
    3. Export these bookmarks to save them.
    4. Turn on iCloud on the mac. iCloud will repopulate your bookmarks with the bad ones.
    5. Manually delete all bookmarks (cmd-delete). As you do this, the corresponding bookmark is deleted on iCloud.
    6. Import your bookmarks from your saved bookmarks file.
    7. You may need to clean up a bit by dragging the imported bookmarks out of the import folder to where you really want them.
Linc, because the instructions in the second link above are confusing it might be better to find a better link to refer people to, as I see you've referred others to this link before. As I see it, steps 11 and 12 are superfluous and confusing, all the steps about the plist are uncessary, and the key step 15 is confusing because it doesn't make it at all clear that iCloud will repopulate your bookmarks, and that this is expected, and that you should then delete them all one by one.

  • Safari new bookmarks replaced by old icloud bookmarks

In order to have my latest bookmarks on safari (osx 10.10.3) I do a manual overwrite, using xmarks, with the option "overwrite local bookmarks with server bookmarks". It works well but a few hours later after the overwrite the safari bookmarks are replaced by the "old" bookmarks stored on icloud.
In other words icloud bookmarks are not synchronized properly and do not reflect the latest changes made on safari on my iMac.
    Any ideas? Thank you.

Make sure you have Bookmarks selected in System Preferences / iCloud

  • How to share safari iCloud tabs using a secondary iCloud account?

I have 4 iOS devices in the family: an iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, ipad 2 and an ipad 3, all with the latest iOS software.
Each  pair has its own separate primary icloud account. So, one phone shares a primary icloud account with one ipad, the other iPhone  shares with the second ipad. That allows us to keep most things separated as necessary. However,. the are just 2 things I wanted to across across ALL 4 devices: Shared Safari Tabs, and Find iPhone. I wanted to be able to see what safari tabs are currently open on ALL these devices, FROM any device of these devices.  I also wanted to be able to see the location of ALL 4 devices from any of these devices.  To do this, I set us a second shared iCloud account on all 4 devices.
The new shared safari tabs feature works great with your main iCloud account on all devices you want to share this with....HOWEVER, it WILL NOT WORK AT ALL if you are trying to share tabs with a secondary iCloud account.
I set up a secondary shared family iCloud account on all 4 of our iOS devices by going to Settings/Mail, Contacts, Calendars/Add Account... and selected iCloud as the account type, and created a new family account. After creating it, I was offered options to share various things with that account. I turned OFF every share option except Safari and Find iphone.
Turning ON the Safari sharing option generated a box telling me that Safari sharing will be turned OFF for main iCloud account, (which is fine), and asking if I want to save my current Safari data and roll it into the new iCloud account or delete it (I've tried it both ways). I then repeated this process on all 4 of our family iOS devices. The result is that Safari iCloud sharing actually stops working all together. The new "cloud" symbol that was at the top of the browser window on my iPads , next to the bookmarks button, has now disappeared. On my iPhones, the menu option for sharing safari tabs has disappeared. So, enabling Safari sharing in a secondary iCloud account DOES disable sharing in the primary account, but DOES NOT REALLY enable it in the secondary account, even though it SAYS it is enabled.
Apple's phone support is worthless on this issue. multiple calls to senior advisors, 3 times being told my issue was being referred to "engineering"....never a single followup call or email back EVER, after weeks. i am really tired of so-called senior advisors even telling me "Oh, you can't have more that one icloud account in a device", which is NOT true, see above for how I have added one.
What is really odd is that the one other thing i wanted to share across all 4 devices does work: the Find Iphone app. Again,, turning this on in the secondary iCloud account settings causes a warning that Find iPhone will be turned off for the primary iCloud account on that device, which is fine for me. I did it on all 4 devices, and now from any of them I can log into Find iPhone and see the location of all 4 devices, even though they use different primary iCloud accounts. Sharing this feature still works with the secondary account.
So why won't the Safari data share properly with the secondary account? if this feature isn't supported with a secondary account, why is it there as on option in the first place? What purpose does Safari sharing serve with a secondary account? NONE that I can find, aside from DISABLING sharing completely for the primary iCloud account.
If anyone has an idea of how to make this work, or what purpose the Safari sharing serves in a secondary icloud account, I'd love to know. Better yet,  explain it to Apple because they are clueless.........

Sigh...it's gotten even worse with iOS7.
While iOS7 may be a big leap forwards in most respects, the "Find my iPhone" feature has taken a big step in reverse. This useful feature is NO LONGER AVAILABLE for use with secondary iCloud accounts, ONLY your PRIMARY account.
This may not be a huge concern for most users, because many (including most first-tier tech reps at Apple I've spoken to) seem to believe that you can only have one iCloud account on a device. NOT TRUE. While you can only have one PRIMARY account, you can add multiple additional iCloud EMAIL accounts (go to Settings/Mail, Contacts & Calendars/Add Account/iCloud). In the last iOS, once you created a new, secondary iCloud email address, you could activate many iCloud features for use with the new account, including Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Reminders, Notes, Safari Data (which never actually worked), and Find My iPhone. Under iOS7, however, Find My iPhone is no longer available. Instead, a small paragraph below the new iCloud email account setup screen says "Only your main account can use Bookmarks, Photo Stream, Documents & Data, Backup, and Find My iPhone."
Consider two cases where this is a huge problem.
    1) We have a large number of company iOS devices that we need to keep track of.
    2) Personally, I have an iPhone and iPad, and so does my wife. So do our kids!
In both the above cases, we created a secondary iCloud account, we'll call it "[email protected]", and added it as a secondary iCloud email address on ALL our iOS devices. In the setup screen we disabled everything EXCEPT "Find My iPhone". This account has a unique password, making it possible to see the location of ANY OR ALL the devices using the Find My iPhone App, WITHOUT having to share email, contacts, calendars, etc. among all these devices.
In our company, I can tract the location of any iOS device I gave to an employee, but his personal PRIMARY iCloud account is used to keep his mail, contacts, calendars, etc. secure. He shares this data between his iPhone and iPad, but NOT with everyone else. In my family, we all have our own primary iCloud accounts. I share mine between my iPhone and iPad; my wife and kids do the same. This allows us to keep our calendars, contacts, emails, etc. separated. But we all used the secondary iCloud email account ONLY with Find My iPhone. This allowed everyone in the family to see the location of everyone else, very nice in an emergency. Unlike the Find My Friends app, the device being located doesn't have to respond to a request to be found (very important when finding a lost or stolen device).
In both the above cases, we just log into the Find My iPhone APP on ANY iOS device, using the secondary iCloud account's email address and password (the email address is actually saved in the app, so you really only need to enter the password after the initial login). Viola! You can now see the location of any device that has that secondary iCloud account installed. And a person can still be untrackable if they wish, simply by turning off the Find My iPhone feature under the shared account's iCloud account settings on their device.
Alas, with iOS7 this is no longer possible. With the Find My iPhone feature only available for use with the device's PRIMARY iCloud account, there are only two ways to track another device:
    1) Use the same primary iCloud account (which forces you to share other data and features you may not want to);
    2) Log into the Find My iPhone APP with the PRIMARY iCloud email address and password of the person you want to track.
Either way, the person doing the tracking MUST have access to the PRIMARY iCloud credentials of the device they are tracking. This is a large security hole! Ask yourself: if you are a parent, do you really want your kids to have access to your primary iCloud account, including your mail, contacts, calendars, etc? Some people may not want their spouse to access that. In a company setting, do you want all your employees to be FORCED to share Documents & Data, Backup and Bookmarks, just to use the Find My iPhone feature? If they want to keep their mail, contacts, calendars, etc. separated from other employees, they will be forced to move these to a secondary iCloud account, which will no longer allow them to share Bookmarks, Photo Stream, Documents & Data or Backup. Why this ridiculous limitation?
The bottom line:Find My iPhone is now only useful for the primary iCloud account holder, and can no longer be used effectively between larger numbers of iOS devices, such as families or corporate institutions. This should be addressed in the next update to the iOS.

  • Safari 5.1.5 (Windows) RSS unread count no longer working

With the previous version of Safari under Windows 7(SP1) the 'unread count' for the RSS feed bookmarks were only updated when Safari was restarted. This was bad enough, but now with Safari 5.1.5 they don't appear at all.
I've even gone so far as removing every bit of Apple software (Safari, iTunes, iCloud, Mobile Me, Bonjour etc), removed all data in the user profile, rebooted a couple of times and completely reinstalled Safari iCloud and iTunes but still not working.
I've been Googling about it but I couldn't find much about it, only confirmation of my previous problem (the need to restart Safari to update the counts)
Am I the only one with this problem? Any suggestions?
    Thx, Tim

@sean0826 -- this is why you don't use Java menus. Even javascript menus are a bad idea; you need to have a secondary menu system ANYTIME you have a menu system that requires a plugin or scripting to be active. NOT EVERYONE browses with that stuff on.
The only thing you can do for now is FTP to your site and add in static menus (like we did in the "old days" at the bottom of the page; or rip out the Java Menus and install static or CSS versions.
BTW where are you rmenus supposed to be. I have opera, safari, ff, and a few others. they all look the same. So if that's true, it's the plugin that's the problem, not safari.
In Opera Pogo.com works. java loads, the game is there. It does have some drawing issues but not surprised.
In Safair Pogo works fine. Just played a game of chess.

  • HT202806 Chrome for Mac automatically uninstalls iCloud Bookmarks extension

iCloud for Windows includes a Chrome extension that allows you to sync your Chrome bookmarks in Windows with your Safari bookmarks on your Mac.
There is a problem though. If you have Chrome installed on your Mac and run it, Chrome identifies that the extension is not compatible with Chrome for Mac and it then automatically and without asking uninstalls the extension. As extensions are synced across all your Chrome browsers across multiple platforms, when you next run Chrome for Windows, the extension also gets uninstalled, leaving you back where you started without the ability sync bookmarks.
This seems primarily to be an issue with the way Chrome handles compatible extensions, but thought I'd raise it here in case anyone else has noticed this and has any advice.
Does anyone know of a way to prevent Chrome from automatically removing the extension? Or maybe there is an option to stop cross-OS extension syncing. Simply never running Chrome again on my Mac is not an option as I require it in addition to Safari.

It's not necessary because iCloud bookmarks come from Safari. The extension is there so that you can sync your bookmarks from Safari on your Mac and easily access them using Chrome on your PC.
If you read the description for the extension, you would realize that.
Keep your Chrome bookmarks on Windows up to date with the Safari bookmarks on your iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
Chrome can already sync bookmarks via Google that can be accessed using Chrome on another machine without the need for an extension. If you want to use Chrome on all your machines and sync the bookmarks, google already has you covered there.

  • How do I delete my iCloud bookmarks and upload a new bookmark file

While managing my bookmarks, I deleted a bookmarks folder in my bookmarks bar. Just then the infamous beachball started and a dialog popped up saying my bookmarks were syncing with iCloud. Then Safari crashed. After opening it, all my bookmarks bar bookmarks were gone. Thankfully, I had a backup of the bookmarks, however, I don't want to merge with the bookmarks on iCloud, fearing they're screwed up. How do I delete or overwrite my iCloud bookmarks and upload my new corrected version?

Done that and still DOES NOT work for me! I wiped out my bookmarks in ALL my devices (iPhone 4, iPad 2, MBP, and iMac). Of course, I made backups of my bookmars prior of wiping it out and proceeded to wait 4 days to make sure iCloud had enough time to clear itself up alright. After seeing that I didn't get no more entries synched to any of my devices I proceeded to restore my bookmarks first to my iMac. Then I waited and yes, a few minutes later it synch correctly into my MBP however, when it came to my iOS devices it came over alright except it came over with dupplicates AGAIN!!!! So, at this point I just went and clean up all those entries from my iPhone and iPad. Luckily they stayed like that and no further dupplicates were created.
Now, because I don't feel iCloud is working correctly, at least for me, with my Safari Bookmarks and Notes, I have left those two apps untoched. But this week I added a new bookmark into a folder from my iPhone 4... well, guess what? The new bookmark after 3 days NEVER showed up in my other devices! Once again, I proceeded to remove that entry from my iPhone 4 and added it from my iPad 2... SAME results. Ok... the frustration continues... I removed the bookmark from my iPad and added it from my iMac and guess what happen next? The new bookmark showed up in my MBP!!!! It didn't show up in the same location as I placed it from my iMac. It showed up at the root top level of my bookmarks... so, a la Microsoft, I proceeded to move it to its appropriate folder as I have it in my iMac. So far, so good. Then I proceeded to check my iPad and iPhone and the new bookmark is NOWHERE to be found!!! Isn't this wonderful how iCloud works!??? I love the fact that it frustrates me and create unncessary work and waste of time and lack of efficiency and effectiveness!
Yesterday I added a new note from my iPhone and guess what happened... the new note never showed up in ANY of my other devices!!!! So, once again, I proceeded to remove that new note and add it from my iPad. A few minutes later... I had multiple duplicates of Notes in my iPad and the new note was nowhere to be found in any of my other devices inspite of the fact I have full iCloud features enabled! So, I then proceeded to clean up the extra duplicate entries from my iPad... and what happened next was just so kewl... ALL, I mean ALL my notes I had in my other devices were WIPED OUT!!!! But now things looks clean and tidy from my iPad!!! Go figure! I waited to see if they will sync to my other devices and NOTHING!
At this point I was so fuming you could fry an egg on my forehead of the frustration! So, I proceeded to wipe--out my notes from my iPad and waited to make sure no more duplcates were going to show-up. I then went to my iMac and from there launched TimeMachine and restore my notes and then created the new note and wala... now it shows OK in ALL my devices! So, the morale of the story for me is... don't enter Bookmarks from my iOS devices. Do it from my Mac machines... at least they'll be (after manually moving the entry from the other machine) in sync and do not add any new notes from any iOS device but to it from my iMac or MBP so that it syncs OK...
Isn't this a wonderful story of how great and amazing iCloud works? Wow... I'm even impress with myself... but I've been close in more than once occassion of using a baseball bat and my devices as a Piñata from the frustration

  • How can I turn off Recently Websites when opening new Safari window? After tapping on the two overlapping boxes on the bottom right of Safari, a new blank window appears with Favorites, but now in iOS 8, recently viewed websites are listed.

How can I turn off Recently Visited Websites when opening new Safari window?
After tapping on the two overlapping boxes on the bottom right of Safari, a new blank window appears with Favorites, but now in iOS 8, recently viewed websites are listed. How can I turn this function off? I do NOT want my new Safari windows to have history displayed of previous websites I visited. I only want my Favorites (on the top) to be displayed. Please help.
Thank you for your time, patience, understanding, kindness, and concern.

Thanks for replying, but that isn't the answer I am looking for.  Also, there is no + sign, UNLESS you do tap the overlapping boxes.
Let me try to ask my question a little more clearly:
When I tap the two overlapping boxes on the lower left (the option to Open New Windows), the new Window that appears will show your Bookmarked FAVORITES. But with my new iPhone 6, and the new iOS 8.0.2, when I tap the two boxes to open a New Window, my Bookmark Favorites show (as they always have and should), but below them, there is a dividing line underneath them, and it says Recently Viewed Websites, and has these websites available to tap.
So my question is, HOW DO I TURN THESE OPTION OFF?
*UPDATE  (10.13.14): Since I have asked this question, I no longer see these Recently Viewed Websites under my Bookmarked Favorites in my new Window tabs. So I hope that Apple fixed it, or somehow it was a mistake, or somehow I changed an Option on my iPhone 6 that stopped this for reoccurring.
Thank you for your help bobseufert! I appreciate your concern, kindness, and the time to try to help. I am grateful.
    Have a blessed day.

  • TS4001 iCloud bookmark syncing just doesn't work.

I've tried all of the disconnect, purge, wait and merge scenarios on on this and other web platforms and iCloud still keeps causing my bookmarks to revert to a long obsolete setup from weeks ago. It's clear I'm not the only one with the problem. Anyone have a better idea?
I've disconnected the Mac and all of the other devices. I've deleted every folder and file I can find (including the bookmarks.plist in "Library/Safari" many times. I've waited days. I've reconnected and "merged" with iCloud. I've deleted all bookmark files on all other devices. Results are still the same - surprise! A return to an old set up.
I'm a Mac fan. I'm an Apple fan. But this is really frustrating - its EXACTLY the kind of thing that Apple shouldn't do.
MobileMe worked fine. What's going on?
More importantly, what can I do to fix it once and for all?
Is there a way to get to the bookmarks info in the cloud and clean it out?
Is there a way to not "merge" but REPLACE the iCloud bookmark info?

Yup.. I had less trouble getting SN to work with icloud than I did Lion.
I just popped into the other conversation to say you can indeed use icloud with SN, but you have to have a basic knowledge of how to do things. Unfortunately some people want so much hand holding they just can't be helped.
I was just trying to ensure everyone knew YOU CAN DO THIS. I didn't intend having to train everyone on the basics of computing and using OSX.
Just showing a screen shot isn't going to assist anyone. There's more to it.
I note one individual says "it doesn't work" when I know full well it does". Many have done this and the evidence is all over the web.
One other person is afraid to screw up her machine by attemptoing anything. Why not use Carbon Copy Cloner and totally clone to a spare disk and then experiment away with the knowledge that the entire system could be brought back as original... in little more than a couple of minutes.??  But no.. "I'm afraid". They can't learn this way. Again, hand holding.
So if people don't want to research, learn, understand. and try without fear.... then I can't help them.

  • Resetting iCloud bookmarks.

    Hello everyone,
As the subject says, I'm having trouble resetting the iCloud bookmarks.
I own an iPhone and recently bought an iPad.
The iPhone is running IOS 8.xxx and the iPad is still running IOS 7.xxx (not planning on changing to IOS 8.xxx).
Now, when I installed the iPad I thought it was time I resetted the bookmarks, because it was a mess.
I've had this problem for a while, but didn't care before I bought the iPad.
The first thing I did, was turning off the iCloud synchronization for safari on both the devices.
I did this and they asked me to delete all the bookmarks from iCloud.
I agreed with this and it deleted all the bookmarks.
So I began testing it, adding some bookmarks on the iPhone and then adding some on the iPad.
Then I re-enabled the synchronization for iCloud.
Instead of syncing between the 2 devices, all the old bookmarks reappeared and I couldn't find the new ones I created.
I repeated the steps twice and can't seem to find a solution.
I've tried searching online, but all the solutions required a mac.
Since I don't have one, I have no idea what to do and hoped someone of you could help me out.
Pardon my English, I'm from Belgium.
    Thanks in advance

    Havent tought of that myself.
Is there no other way ?
SInce iCloud duplicated everyrhing, i've got 100+ bookmarks.

My wifi diagnostic says I am connected, but I cannot connect to the internet (safari), iCloud Mail, or any other sites.  Help?

Power cycle (turn off and on) the router. In System Preferences -> Network, under WiFi does it say Self-Assigned IP Address? Click where it says location in the network's pane of WiFi, click edit location, click the plus icon and type 'test' and press done, then press apply on the next window. Click advanced then in the preferred networks tab, make sure your wifi network is at the top of the list, if it's not then drag it to the top, on the TCP/IP tab, click renew DHCP lease, on the DNS tab, click the plus icon at the bottom left, add two new dns servers: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, press OK, then press APPLY on the next window. restart the mac and see if it's fixed.

  • Why is there a guest account who can use safari in my login window???

why is there a guest account who can use safari in my login window when i completely disabled the guest account. I disabled the guest account so others wont be able to use the internet, specifically safari, on my mac, as a form of security/parental control and now anyone who wants to go online csn do so.
how could i completely remove that out of my login window?

Security enthusiasts highly recommend keeping the Guest User Safari account enabled so that if you happen to lose your Mac, or if it’s stolen, it could easily be tracked down.
The first thing most thieves do is turn on the device to see if it works, and/or access your information, or surf the internet. Once it connects to the internet, you now have an opportunity to start collecting data that could eventually lead to the device recovery and thief capture.
This is not a full guest user account, if you select the Guest User option at login, the Mac will restart to a secured Safari-only version of the OS with access to the internet. So what’s the point of this? It turns out this is part of setting up iCloud in Mac OS X, specifically the “Find My Mac” feature. The Safari Guest User allows someone to get online so the Mac can be located, but prevents the Safari user from accessing your files and applications.

Since turning on iCloud, I have this issue where Safari 8.0.3 (10600.3.18) keeps duplicating book marks and bookmark folders. I now have about 7 copies of each bookmark. (Same issue extending to Contacts and files)
