Safari icon isn't on dock

I have a Mac IOS 10.9 and  when I turned on my computer today the Safari icon was off the dock. I couldn't find it but I was able to get online with Firefox. When I did it asked me to upgrade and gave me a choice of new browsers I could download - Safari being one of them. I don't understand Firefox too well. Should I download the Safari if I already have it?'
My most important question is: how do I get the Safari icon originally from my Mac back on my dock? I can't find it.

Click Finder in the Dock to launch it.
Open  Application Folder and then Safari.
When Safari is open, right click Safari icon in the Dock, move mouse pointer up tp Options and select "Keep in Dock".
Best.

"Don't forget while dragging to hold-down the 'Option" key Otherwise you will drag the original Application to the Dock."
I think that you are mistaken there, Dimaxum. Dragging anything to the Dock only creates an alias to it. I have never had to option-drag anything to the dock to keep the original where it should be. The original remains wherever it was.

  • My safari icon is gone from dock on iphone 4

I can't get any tech support on the phone, nothing interactive online

    You cannot delete it.
It is likley on another page, in a folder, or you have restrictions set.
If you do not find it in these places then reset your home screen layout.
All of this is covered in the manual:
iPhone User Guide (For iOS 4.2 and 4.3 Software)

  • Safari will not launch from Dock but will launch if I open it from an email

I recently reinstalled my operating system and Safari worked fine for a day. Went to open it from the Dock today and it would not open. Click on link in an email and it opens and works fine. Have trashed the preferences file. What else should I do. The crash report has the below for the last entry when it doesn't open. Can I trash that?
    9753c000 /System/Library/Frameworks/DirectoryService.framework/Versions/A/DirectoryServi ce

    Hi Mike,
No, do not trash that file.
    Quit Safari if it's open.
    Locate this file. com.apple.launchservices.plist
    ~/Library/Preferences.
Drag that file to the Desktop.
Try to launch Safari from the Dock.
If that does not work, drag the Safari icon up off the Dock. It will go poof. (not a technical approach but that's what it does). Now go to your Applications folder and launch Safari from there. If it opens as it should, select the Safari icon in the Dock / Keep In Dock.
If you still have problems with Safari, go to ~/Library/Internet Plugins. Open the Internet Plugins folder. If there are files there, delete them.
To empty the cache memory go to the Safari menu and click 'Empty Cache'.
To Reset Safari go to the Safari menu and click 'Reset Safari". Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.

One from the dock and the one on the desktop.

In Finder, select the item. Choose File > Get Info (or do ⌘I). Look under General > Kind. Does it read "Alias" or does it read "Application (Intel)"?
If the latter, then it is likely that you're not allowed to delete because it's actually open. Quit Safari. Check if there is an item called Safari in your </Applications> folder. (In Finder, you can get directly to the Applications folder using ⇧⌘A -- that's Shift-Command-A.) Check if it's an application. If it is, then you have an unneeded copy of Safari. You can delete the one on your Desktop. If there isn't, them move the one on the Desktop to the Applications folder -- that's where it belongs.

If you can't get dragging to work, just click on Safari from your Applications folder, and it should appear in the dock. Then you can right-click on the icon and PIN it permanently there.

  • Safari icon Pops up on the left side of the dock, how to turn it off

I'm constantly getting this icon popping up on the left side of my Dock on my iMac at work.
When clicking the Safari icon, it will open a webpage where one of my colleges is working on.
How can I turn it off because it constantly shifts the icons  on my dock to the right and when it
disappears after about 3 second everything moves again to the left. This is happening about
a couple of times a minute and it drives me crazy.

You and your colleague are both signed in to the same Apple ID account, and both using Handoff. One should sign out and sign in with a different ID.

Safari 5.0.6 for Leopard can be downloaded from here:

    How did you post here?

  • Safari icon in Dock is missing!

The icon of Safari in my dock is missing, I think it happened after it crashed (my dock auto-hides, so I'm not 100%)
    I've tried re-starting, all that...
How do I get it back without 'reseting' Safari (if that even works)... or at least reseting as few of the checkboxes as possible?
By the way, Safari has been very incompatible with the internet since the update to Safari 5... Flash plugin crashes all the time - YouTube; doesn't work well with Facebook - videos, posting links, etc.; and various other bugs.
(I have the newest versions of everything - MBP, Safari, etc.)

    Hello U:
Close Safari (it is open with the missing icon in your post). If the blank icon is there, drag it off the dock and then drag the Safari icon from applications to the dock.
To try to address the other problems, try trashing a preference file (com.apple.safari.plist) and restarting.
If the crashing continues, post the crash report. I do not read them well, but some people here can use the report to troubleshoot.

  • Safari icon in Dock changed

My Safari Dock icon under Leopard spontaneously (as far as I can tell) changed to a folder icon (actually the Download folder icon). I dragged the icon out of the Dock to make it disappear. Then I attempted to put the real Safari clock icon in the Dock. When the clock icon got to the Dock, the icon changed to an envelope with a sheet of paper in it. I don't know which application uses that. I can't even find that envelope icon anywhere on my iMac.
Command I on Safari shows the normal Safari clock icon as still being present.
Trying Safari as another user produced the normal Safari clock icon. I could drag the Safari clock icon from the Dock, and then replace it by dragging the Safari application icon to the dock.
    What should I try next?

The Safari Clock icon does not stay in the dock on my iMac, even when I select "Keep in Dock" in the menu. Each time when I close Safari, the icon disappears after a few seconds. I have just changed to a new iMac, transferred all my content to the brand new machine, and it is still happening. My Dock preferences are synchronised across to my other machines, but in those machines the dock acts normally. Is this a corrupt preference issue? If I trash my preferences, what else goes?

  • I cannot open a new window form Safari icon in the dock

While usign Safari for my paper researches I used to open new windows in order to browse more documents.
A few days ago I realized that I do not have the option "open new window" when I click on Safari Icon in the dock.
What happened?I did not change any preference
    thanks

  • No dot below Safari icon in the Dock

I've noticed that the dot below the Safari icon in my Dock disappears after a while of no use.  It seems to stay if a page is open but not if it's closed.  Does this mean Safari has quit unexpectedly?   When I click on the Safari icon, it comes back very quickly, faster than if I have actually made it quit.
Something to worry about or not?  No other apps seem to behave this way.

    Try restarting the computer.
If that doesn’t help, try restarting the Dock.
    Restarting the Dock
    Applications > Utilities > Terminal
    Launch Terminal.
Wait until the $ sign shows up.
    Enter the command     killall Dock
Press the enter key on the keyboard. Wait until the prompt shows up.
    Quit Terminal.

  • HT1349 I accidentally erased the URL for my homepage with safari in the preferences, can someone tell me what to put in there so when I click on the safari icon in my dock it will go there? thank you, kathy

I accidentally erased the URL for my homepage with safari in the preferences so can someone tell me what to put in there so when I click on the safari icon in the dock it will take me to the safari page it had when I first got my macbook pro?

Safari comes with the Apple website pre-defined, so if you want to use it as the homepage for Safari, open Safari menu > Preferences > General, and type "http://www.apple.com" (without quotes) on the homepage box. Then, close the Preferences window and Safari will be set up with this page
