Safari & iDisk Websites....

Help.
I store a number of 'preview' sites for clients on my iDisk, uploaded directly from DreamWeaver (CS4) using WebDAV. All are stored in subfolders, so they can be viewed at "http://www.mypersonaldomain.co.uk/clients/etc...."
Today, I noticed that external CSS style sheets aren't loading properly in Safari 4 (Mac – haven't tried PC version), which results in the pages being rendered very basically, with no styling/background images etc..etc...
1. Open the files locally and they render fine;
2. Opening the remote files, and they don't render in Safari, but do in Opera;
3. This is only a problem with some of my sites stored on iDisk, yet all have same 'structure' and relationship between index.htm and style.css....
..why? I thought this was a Safari 4 issue, then I thought it was an iDisk issue. Now I don't know if it's a combination of both or what.
Needless to say, I'm puzzled.
If anyone can suggest what's going on (and even better, a solution), I'd love to hear it!
Thanks in advance.

Had a similar issue with a site I publish to iDisk from iWeb 08. I'm suspecting that Safari 4 somehow corrupted the site. Is that possible?
I installed Safari 4 on my mac and opened the site; it looked very basic, links had turned blue and text wasn't showing. So I reverted to Safari 3, trashed the plist, emptied the cache etc... but my site looked the same! I checked it on another machine. It looked normal in Safari 3 but wrong in Firefox in the same way (blue links etc).
So I republished the whole site from iWeb, and now it looks fine both on both machines on both Safari 3 and Firefox.
Is it possible that a browser could modify the site? The site was certainly working fine in both Firefox and Safari 3 before I opened it in Safari 4.

  • Mac Safari open website in mobile version sometimes, such as GoogleTranslate. How to solve it

Sometimes Mac Safari open website in mobile version, such as GoogleTranslate. How to solve it?
I use iPhone and iPad as well, but I never open google translate page using safari both on iPhone and iPad. Just use the GoogleTranslate App sometimes.
Why does my Mac Safari open google translate page in mobile version for no reason?

If you use iCloud to synchronize Safari with a mobile device, you may be opening a bookmark to the mobile version of the site. Another possibility is that you're getting a Handoff activity from the device.
Remove everything from the URL except the domain name and try again. For instance, if the URL is something like this:
    http://www.example.com/mobile
    or
    http://mobile.example.com
    change it to this:
    http://www.example.com

    HI,
Wow you must have been watching me type and hit send since it took about 1 minute for the reply. Thanks.
Yes i understand the purpose however i still feel as though i should be able to decide for myself if i want to use them as an "option" or turn them off entirely. It's sort of akin to the "trash bin" that's not really trash, though in that instance at least microsoft and Apple listened to consumers (eventally) and allowed users to make the choice. Hey there's a thought how about Apple points the delete to the trash bin and looses the annoying popup, that way we can restore cookies? Sorry, i'm being sarcastic but in my view, if i delete a cookie or a cached web icon it's not exactly the same thing as "saving us" from deleting a spreadsheet or system files. Oh but wait in that instance i CAN delete them without having to endure the annoying "are you sure" pop up. it looks like someone missed the bus on this one. Thanks again I'll check the web for the terminal command and try and edit the tag myself.

  • Does my iDisk website folder have the same contents as the folder created with Publish to Folder?

Should I make a back up of the website folder on iDisk?  Is this folder the same as the Domain.sites2 folder in the Library?
Is it the same as the folder that's created when I click Publish to Folder in iWeb?  It's so confusing - from where should I save, copy, or backup
my website?  Thanks for clearing this up.

The folder on iDisk is the published files - the Domain.sites2 has the unpublished data.
The published files on the iDisk aren't much use to you since you need to republish your site to a new server directly from iWeb or via a local folder and FTP.

  • Safari - Many Websites Are Not Loading

Does anyone else have the same problem as the one below?
Ever since I upgraded to Leopard (day of release) there have been plenty of websites that do not finish loading, and what happens is that the tabs/websites just keep spinning. My ISP says nothing is wrong (BT Internet, UK). This happens at my business and home... Same ISP but two different exchanges/ISP servers.
Has there been something that now overrides what I had in place with Tiger? I did notice that the firewall was automatically turned off (and without warning; that was silly, Apple!). Should I now have to set up something else instead?
    Thanks

a brody... many thanks for your reply.
Yep, I had already emptied the cache in all users but it struck me afterwards as to why the problem would exist for all users at the same time and especially after I installed Leopard. In another post I talk about an email address that keeps saying it is receiving incoming mail; the Activity Monitor in the side bar (or Command-zero pop-up window) happily counts upwards into the hundreds i.e. 249 of 346 etc (it keeps changing, too). Sometimes emails come in fine while others arrive a few hours later; it's very sporadic. Weird.
So there must be something wrong with the two of them together; they must be related to the upgrade and to something that is attached to both Safari and Mail. I'm not sure how though.
Here are two pages of many that do not load all the way:
    https://adwords.google.com/select/Login
    http://webmail.7lilies.com
One of the other machines has yet to be upgraded to Leopard and because it's still running on Tiger everything is fine. All emails come in OK, as do the above websites.
    Cheers.

  • SAFARI 6 WEBSITE SAVED PASSWORD NOT WORKING

after upgrading to Safari 6 a saved bookmarked website user name and password no longer works.
seems to be just for that site. went to preferences>passwords selected site but it won't 'remove'.
tried deleting and re-establishing the bookmarked site but no drop down to remember the user name and pw
appears. i see that others are having this problem. again, it seems that most of the sites are
acting as they did before the upgrade. i am using the last version of Lion before Mountain Lion
(which i can't install on my computer).

    Thank you for your reply
i need this because some websites opens with both options 'with and without www'
i have saved password for example.com but next time i open www.example.com coming from google or referral. i forget that i have account for example.com.
i have to check in password manager for accounts every time.
so thats why i want to save password for both www and without www.
    sorry for my bad english

  • Safari opens websites not using HTML formatting- Why?

Can anyone help? This is what happens on many websites - such that I no longer use Safari : http://screencast.com/t/cmh3eNvkva
    Safari gives me two problems:
    1. Not formatting sites correctly making them unusable
    2. Telling me that Site Certificates are untrusted (when they should be trusted - and are the correct sites)
I have tried everything I can think of - Clearing cashe - uninstalling and re-instaling Safari - upgrading Safari. Everything workd fine in Firefox - thank heaven.
But honestly, what's the point of a Browser - and a Mac one at that, which won't function properly?

Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. Step 1 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.” While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin. Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem? After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it. *Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing. Step 2 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Safari and website screen sizes

    Hi,
Why is it that this website (the apple discussion forum) displays nicely across the full width of my imac but most other websites are narrow, barely reaching halfway across. The safari window goes all the way across but the page content doesn't. for example expedia.co.uk or itsagoal.com don't display in widescreen.
Is this a website fault or a browser limitation?
    Thanks
    Lee

What you are seeing is the result of different web-page design philosophies.
There are two basic ways to layout a web page.
At one extreme is a dynamic layout which assumes that it cannot be know what resolution the viewer will be using or what size window the browser will be opened to or resized to. This kind of web page will flow and resize itself as you drag your window around adjusting it to different sizes.
At the other extreme is the page-layout model derived from old-fashioned hard-copy layout practices in which the designer wants complete control of what appears where. These pages will not resize as you adjust the size of your browser window, but will either cause the browser to add horizontal scroll bars if the window is made to small or will leave blank areas to the right if the window is made to large. Some designers limit the width of their pages so that they will fit in a browser window at a medium resolution, meaning that if you have a high resolution or a wide-screen monitor you will see the blank areas to the right.
Some designers compromise between the two extremes so that some elements will flow as you resize the browser window while others will not.

  • Safari remove website data - still broken

Hi, just eagerly downloaded the update which supposedly fixed the problem with the "remove website data" from the Safari privacy pane, the one that doesn't work, right, well, it's just the same as it ever was, cookies popping up all over the place, even after deletion. Again, I do not wish to trawl my computer looking for plists or prefs to delete, I just want the "remove all website data" button to work. Any others still experiencing this or is it just me? Has anyone found an answer to this yet?
    Best regards
    mackers

    Hi ...
That was for Safari 5.1.4 >  About Safari 5.1.4 for OS X Lion
The 5.1.5 update is available but no guarantees that will change anything regarding removing all website data. Click your Apple menu > Software Update.

  • Safari And Website Restrictions

I want a faster reply so here. I made another account on my MacBook for my sister. I want to ban MySpace on it. When I tried on the admin account (this one) it said that I should configure it in the account for my sister. How can I ban websites?

I borrowed this from the standard 'Help' search in the Finders menu bar...
Restricting the websites a user can view
You can use parental controls to limit the websites a user can view in Safari. Users will be able to view only those websites that are in the bookmarks bar. In addition, they will not be able to enter web addresses in the address field, use the Google search field, or modify any of the bookmarks.
Log in as the user, and open Safari.
Choose Safari > Preferences, click Security, and deselect "Enable Parental Controls" if they are selected.
Enter an administrator's name and password when asked.
Add bookmarks for the websites you want the user to visit in the bookmarks bar. Remove all other bookmarks from the bookmarks bar.
When you're done, choose Safari > Preferences, click Security, and select "Enable parental controls."
When you add a bookmark to the bookmarks bar, the user will be able to visit any webpage on that website. For example, if you add a bookmark for http://www.apple.com/index.html, the user will be able to visit any webpage at apple.com, and not just index.html.
Parental controls will not prevent a user from viewing websites in other browsers. To prevent a user from using other web browsers, use the Accounts pane in System Preferences to set up the parental controls for Finder & System, and choose the applications the user can open.
For more information on using Safari, see Safari Help.

  • Safari and website incompatibilities

    Hello!
Recently I've found several websites to be incompatible with Safari 2.0.2: Expedia.com and Gap.com.
    These work fine with Firefox.
Does anyone know if Apple is working on making Safare universally compatible? The current incompatibilities is certainly not a selling point for Safari.
    Thanks!

Safari is designed to render web pages using the accepted W3C standards. It is the least forgiving of browsers in rendering incorrect or bad code.
The problem is not with Apple not making a compatible browser, it is in web sites that choose not to use the standards or who do a sloppy job of coding. Notifying the webmasters of those sites or customer service of those companies is what should be done, emphasizing they are locking out actual and potential customers. Some people will be willing to fix things but you will also run a cross some who just plain don't care.
