Safari in 32 bit?

My kids play miniclip non stop and today we were asked to load an update to flashplayer so that some of the games will run.
However, after doing so the web app asked for us to change Safari to 32 bit? not sure how to or even if I should?

HI,
Yes, run Safari in 32 bit mode.
Since you are running Snow Leopard, make sure Safari is running in 32-bit mode, not 64. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.
You may need to update your Flash Player plugin. To do so you need to uninstall then reinstall the latest version.
Uninstall Flash
Install Flash
Then repair disk permissions...
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Safari in 64-bit mode on Snow Leopard does not play YouTube videos

Recently Safari stopped playing youtube videos while Safari is in 64-bit mode. The entire page renders correctly; however the area where the video is supposed to play remains a black box without controls. I can watch video from other sites, or I can watch video from youtube if I use another browser like firefox. Additionally, I can go to the youtube video owner's channel and view videos there just fine. It's only when I try to view videos that use the "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=" method of displaying a video using Safari in 64-bit mode that it fails to play -- it plays fine with Safari in 32-bit mode.

    Upgrading to 10.2 didn't help.
It's not !. Flash player 10.1 is no better (as you can verify by downgrading here http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html)

How do I restart Safari in 32 bit mode, to enable Cooliris?

To restart Safari in 32 bit mode locate the app in Finder, Right Click, select Get Info and in the info panel tick the box to Open in 32-bit mode.

  • How do I run Safari in 32 bit mode on Ipad2?

Need advise on how to change settings to run Safari in 32 bit mode on Ipad2. 32-bit mode is required for my daughter's online assignments. Not sure about OS - should be factory setting since it was not upgraded.

The iPad 2 uses Apple's A5 processor which is based on the ARM Cortex-A9 CPU. ARM processors are 32-bit only CPUs, so all software that runs on these CPUs is, by definition, 32-bit. There's nothing to set.
If your daughter's homework requires a 32-bit version of the browser, then it's not the browser she's using. Web browsers themselves simply render HTML and interpret Javascript. In the browser, there's no sense of 32-bit or 64-bit; they'd be indistinguishible. The only time 32-bit versus 64-bit applies would be for a plug-in to the browser. Mobile browsers don't typically support plug-ins; Mobile Safari certainly doesn't.
Your daughter is not using the web-browser for her assignments, but rather another application that uses the browser to present it. In that case, you're going to need a desktop computer (or virtual machine) and operating system that meet that plug-in/application's requirements. Your iPad will not suffice.

  • How do i run safari in 32 bit for a class

I need to change safari to 32 bit to run Tegrity classes on my mac.  The instructions which pop up talk about a mouse with R/L sides I do not have that kind how do I reconfigure

Highlight the Safari icon in your Applications folder. Then hit Command and I on your keyboard; in the resulting "get info" window, check the "open in 32-bit mode"; you may have to click the lock at the bottom and enter your admin password. If so, make sure you click the lock again to lock it when done. That should do it.

  • Viewing PDFs in Safari in 64-bit mode - how?

For me, in 64 bit mode, Safari insists on using Preview to view PDFs (and which is slow and clunky).
If I make Safari downgrade itself to 32 bit mode, it properly calls up Acrobat to view PDFs.
How can I have Safari running in native 64 bit mode and call up Acrobat to view PDFs on webpages? Or is it not possible?

If you have Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat Pro installed, the plugin they install to view PDF files in Safari is not 64-bit compatible. Aside from that, unless you have more than 4 GB of RAM installed in your machine, you will not benefit in any way from running Safari or any other application in 64-bit mode, so you should be running everything in 32-bit mode.
Because Safari is perfectly capable of rendering PDF files on it's own, you need to ditch Adobe Reader or Acrobat Pro, or at the very least, deactivate them so they are not called when you want to view a PDF file. To do that:
    Quit Safari if it's running.
Start Adobe Reader and/or Acrobat Pro.
Go to Preferences > Internet and uncheck the box at the top where it says "Display PDFs in browser using:", or something similar to that.
Quit Adobe Reader and/or Acrobat Pro and restart Safari to test it.

  • Is It Better To Run Safari In 64-Bit Mode?

I happened to notice via the Activity Monitor that Safari was running in 32-Bit Mode so I switched it so it would launch in 64-Bit Mode and haven't seen any problems so far.  Safari also launches so much faster in 64-Bit mode.
Is there a reason why the 32-Bit setting is the default mode?  Is there any reason not to run in 64-bit mode?  And I am running OSX Lion.

    Hello:
As far as I know, 64 bit mode is standard/default for Safari.  One has to check "launch in 32 bit mode" to alter that behavior.
Is there any reason not to run in 64-bit mode?
IMHO, no.  If some application did not run properly, I suspect that would be obvious.

  • Wish Safari was a bit more like Firefox...

I mean when I need to work on bookmarks, can't it open the 'show all bookmarks' window in a page I'm not looking at on the web? Ok, I can do that by holding command down but honest, would it be so hard to have it open up into a new page or tab automatically?
And what about the possibility of breaking the bookmarks flyout into sections like I can do with Firefox...I'm talking about just the ability to put in some dotted lines between bookmark folders that appear in the book marks menu and bar...is there a way to do that that I'm not aware of? This way I can say divide folders with bookmarks for music related links into a section, art related links into another...just a visual divider so the bookmarks menu isn't one long gigantic list of folders...
okokok, maybe i'm asking for too much...forgive this wild charade, i'll try not to let it happen again...

Oh, one other thing...I also wish Safari was more like Firefox in how it handles color...I rarely use Safari these days cause I'm using a wide gamut monitor and having these neon greens and reds all over is quite hard on the eyes...
I've read about how Safari is color managed, I just don't think it works as well as the Firefox has color managed its browser...
I'd love to go back to using Safari a bit more...maybe Mr. Jobs can put a word in for me?...

  • Safari 5 in 32 bit mode better

I have found at least in my experience that Safari 5 seemed better running in 32 bit mode? I am not sure if it just does better with plugins that way. But it is much more responsive and hangs loading web sites much less. For those unfamiliar with switching to 32 bit mode in Snow Leopard you can go to Applications and right click on Safari select info and check the 32 bit mode.

Yes, I would also like to know this. Is Safari 6 64-bit only? Then why is the 32-bit option still available in the "Get Info" window?

  • Safari problem in 64-bit mode

I have a Dreambox decoder and watch TV streamed to my computer from that. When I have Safari in 32-bit mode it's working fine, but when switching to 64-bit modee the new popup window for the stream comes up but blank (no video stream). I could guess some ind of javascript thing, but really don't have a clue.
    Does anybody have a clue?

I did not think of that. It has worked before at another problem, bud sadly not this time I paste the source code of the streaming popup window maybe you can see if it's flash or javascript that it uses.

  • Safari hangs in 64-bit mode

Noticing that Safari is hanging badly after Snow Leopard install (Firefox doesn't with same content). Running on MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo with 4 GB of RAM.
I checked and Safari was running in 64-bit mode. When I reset it to run in 32-bit mode it eliminated the hangs.
    What gives?

    Hi,
Interesting. I'm running Safari 4 (64-bit according to Activity Monitor) on both my Mac Pro 2009 and late 2008 MacBook Pro (running both in either 64-bit kernel and 32-bit kernel) without issue.
It might have something to do with an incompatible plug in on the site's side. IE 8 64-bit doesn't play Flash content yet the 32-bit IE 8 does.
Expect updates from sites and other third parties in the days and weeks ahead.

  • Shockwave player error asks to use Safari 32 bit

I was clearing out my cookies under Safari preferences today and when I highlight a cookie I want to remove from the list and click REMOVE, a window opens that says I have a Shockwave Player error and that I need to reopen Safari in 32-bit mode.
QUESTION:  Why is this happening, has anyone else had this issue?  Also, what are the advantages or disadvantages of 64/32 bit modes on Safari?  Is there a Shockwave that runs in 64-bit mode?
    Thanks for any input!!

I was having the same problem after updating to the Safari 5.1.2 and noticed, also, that the cookies wren't really clearing... after opening preferences again (after clearing them), there would be a few that would be added back.
I think it's all related to a cookie issue that started with the safari update.
I went back to Safari 5.05 using Pacifier as it wouldn't install under Leopard 10.6.8 which I am running.

  • Switching between 64 bit and 32 bit safari

how do I do this/// I installed a plugin called saft which turned out to be horrible (it told me it was putting safari in 32 bit mode) so I uninstalled it but now I want to put it back in 64 bit mode and I dont know how......apparently spotlight or ANY of the help menu's dont tell you either......
    thanks

    HI Samuel,
Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Deselect Open in 32- bit mode. Also, (in that same window) make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.
    Relaunch Safari.
