Safari in Lion cuts off URLs

When the Lion version of Safari displays a long URL in the navigation bar it truncates the URL and replaces the end with an elipsis (three dots).  That may look nice, but unfortunately it makes it impossible to copy the URL to the clipboard.  When I try to copy it, I just get the truncated version.  This isn't a shortened URL that works.  It is a truncated URL that does not work to go to the web page.
Does anyone know how I can turn off this behavior?  I just want to be able to copy & paste my URLs.  Oh, and it would also be nice to be able to see the URL, too, rather than the truncated version.

Do you have a paid-for login perhaps? When I go to that story I have the full URL. Do you have any Safari extensions installed?
It's nothing to do with my NYTimes account.  The same thing happens at many other websites.  I've attached screenshots from Slashdot and Amazon.com.  (The Amazon link may still work, but that's only because enough information was retained in the uncropped portion.)
I don't have any Safari extensions installed.

  • Safari 6.02 cuts off headers when printing

My header and footer get chopped when printing via Safari under Mountain Lion. I do not remember having this problem under Snow Leopard so this may be a Mountain Lion or Safari 6.x issue here.

No I don't. I am printing a lot of work files and it seems to scale the width of the document to 100%, which makes the the top edge cut off. I have actually decided to use the adobe reader plug-in in safari, and it looks like everything works fine. I was just wandering if there is anything that I can do in safari without using the plug-in. Thank You!

  • Build in clear type in Safari -how to cut off?

Somebody know how to cut off CLear TyPe in Safari 3.1?

You can manually disable Apple's version of text antialiasing by following the instructions found here:
    http://webkit.org/blog/168/gdi-text-on-windows/
Note that this will also disable some of Safari's advanced text handling (and probably hasn't been extensively tested); it might be best if you wait for Apple to roll in the code that allows you to switch between ClearType and Apple's, which seems to be on the horizon. fwiw.

I'm using pure HTML5 for mobile websites although you need to provide an OGG file for Firefox. See the movie page on this site...
    http://mobile.ezmacwebdesign.com/
If you don't have an iPhone, grab the browser handle and drag it to the left to reduce the width to see how it responds to mobile devices' fixed width browsers .
This will play in all modern browsers and on mobile devices. You can use QuickTime Pro for the OGG or OGV conversion or get the freeware Miro Video Converter...

If you only want to upload an MP4, you can use a flash fallback player and this will cover Firefox and those geriatrics that still use older versions of Internet Explorer....

If you use any of the four fallback players above, take advantage of the fact that you can add a poster image and stop the video file from preloading. This makes for a faster page download time.
You can also achieve this using HTML5 by adding preload="none" and poster="URL to the poster image" into the code shown on this page...

All pages after the first page are full size with information cut off
    Recent problem never seen before
Can print from Safari and other software just fine
How can I get all pages to be reduced size?

One suggestion worked from the Firefox prints incorrectly link mentioned above by mha007. I'm thrilled since this has been annoying me for weeks. Thanks mha007!
    Reset all Firefox printer settings
    # Open your profile folder:
    # On the menu bar, click on the Help menu and select Troubleshooting Information. The Troubleshooting Information tab will open.
    # Under the Application Basics section, click on Show in Finder. A window with your profile folder will open.
    # Note: If you are unable to open or use Firefox, follow the instructions in Finding your profile without opening Firefox.
    # On the menu bar, click on the Firefox menu and select Quit Firefox.
    # In your profile folder, copy the prefs.js file to another folder to make a backup of it.
    # Open the original prefs.js file in a text editor (such as TextEdit).
    # Remove all lines in prefs.js that start with print. and save the file.
    # If something goes wrong when you open Firefox, close it again and overwrite prefs.js with the backup you made.

  • I can only see a small section of the text in the url bar, the rest is cut off.

Recently my url bar only displays the first handful of letters in my url. If I use the arrow keys I can see all the text is there, and hitting enter brings up the right page, so it's not cutting off the text, just the display. Approximately the first 15% of the url bar shows text, while the leftover bar is just grey. I'm currently on 16.0.2.

The problem is the same as the one in cor-el's linked question. However, I've found that re-enabling the Authen-tec add-on and restarting firefox solves the problem. It's just when I have it disabled that the address bar does the weird truncation.

  • ITunes cutting off songs Mountain Lion

Many of my tracks are cutting off at various points while playing. This has happened since I installed Mountain Lion. (could be highly coincidental)
They are a mix of songs I purchased from iTunes and ripped from my CDs.
I have not adjusted the stop times in the song options.
The option of "deleting and re-download from iTunes" isn't appropriate either as not all the songs are from iTunes.
    Thanks for your support!
    Paul

Ok, just spent awhile on the phone with Apple...we came up for a quick fix.  It's basically the same as TimWillz with one addition:
Delete the tracks from itunes, empty the trash, then re-download using the purchased or iCloud in the Itunes store.  The purchased link is in the quicklinks bar on the right of the itunes store homescreen.  A cloud should appear once the songs are deleted, and trash emptied, and you can redownload the songs.
I didn't do anything with the "simultaneous downloads untick"  as TimWillz suggested, maybe it was already unticked.  But regardless, this seemed to work.
As for why this happened, apple engineering is going to look into it and should have a response to me in a few days.  I'll update.

  • Shared link cut off, Safari to email

I was trying to email/share a link/address from Safari. The pasted link/address into email is cut off because the address is too long. I tried several pages, it seems there is a limit to how long the link/address can be. I was emailing incomplete address to my friends. Is there a setting or fix for this problem?

not sure what it is. I tried several times, the same same is happening.
I found another example.. I think it cuts off at the "&"
    original:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Description=8GB +SDHC
    cut off
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE
Since you dont have this issue it must be my phone...
I sync my phone to window XP that has some chinese setting, and the songs on the phone has chinese names, I wonder if this has anything to do with cutting off at "&"

  • Safari 8 Cuts off the top of every web page

Ok, so I'm looking for a solution or I want to know if other people are having the same problem so hopefully apple will fix it.
As my title says, Safari 8 in Mac OS X Yosemite is cutting off the top of every web page while in full screen. Not just a few, every single one, and it only does it in full screen. It only started after I updated to Mac OS X 10.10.1, it was fine with the original release of 10.10. Any takers?
    Thanks,
    Chris

From the Safari menu bar, select
              Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

  • Safari 5.1.5 Can't Scale/Resize Page for Print Without Right Margin Getting Cut Off

If I'm trying to print a webpage that is wider than the width of a portrait-oriented 11 x 8.5 inch sheet, whatever content beyond the right margin gets cut-off at 100% scale. Now, I can go to "File > Print" and reduce the scale from 100% to 75% or whatever value. However, this just scales down the ALREADY cut-off content. The missing right margin content stays missing. I can reduce the sheet margins to 0 inches (borderless), and it doesn't help.
Before I used to be able to use Safari's "File > Page Setup..." dialog box to scale down a webpage to make it fit on a sheet. Now, that option doesn't appear in Safari 5.1.5 Mac unless it got moved somewhere else? I just have the "Print" option.
How do I scale down a webpage to fit the width of a printed sheet now without losing right margin content?

    Solved:
    1. Type  chflags nohidden ~/Library/ in a Terminal window.
    2. Click on the hard drive icon located on the desktop.
    3. Go to Users > [username] > Library > Safari folder.
    4. Delete all files except “Bookmarks.plist”.
    5. Then go to Users > [username] > Library > Preferences.
    6. Find com.apple.Safari.plist, com.apple.internetconfigpriv.plist, and com.apple.internetconfig.plist and delete them (ignore any file you can’t find).

  • Safari cutting off right side of web pages.

I have been using Safari on iPad to view web pages from my company's schedule bidding system. I have had no problems viewing these pages in the past, however now the right side of the web page is being cut off, I am unable to view information or use control buttons that are on the right side of the web page. I have several colleagues using safari on the iPad that are not having the problem so thinking it is a setting on my iPad and not the company website.
    Any Ideas?

The Canon A630 ... (mainly because of the outstanding picture quality which you were able to show me, the variety of zoom levels, not to mention it's nearly half the cost). Although the other camera is a higher MP rating; that in itself didn't sell me on a newer model).

I am trying to use my iPhoto pictures as my screen saver on my mac book air.  Many of the pictures' heads are cut off.  How do I get the pictures to fit the screen properly without the pictures be distorted?

Open the screen saver control panel. Right above the preview window there's a popup menu. You'll probably want to set it to "Fit to screen" so the pictures will be resized to show on the display.

  • HP Laserjet P1102w - Right side margin cut off when printing in Internet Explorer 9! URGENT PROBLEM*

    Hi,
I have just purchased a new printer (HP Laserjet P1102W), and when I print a web page in Internet Explorer 9, the footer (I set to the URL) does not print at all and the header will print though the right hand edge of my entire web page is cut off (including my top right header - Pages ? of ?).
I always use Print Preview first, and in the print preview it looks perfect. I always tick the box to enable shrink to fit too. Why will it look perfect in 'Print Preview' but yet when it prints, it cuts off the right hand side edge of the page and doesnt print the footer?? I have tried adjusting margins, etc... all to no avail.
I would like to check whether others have this same problem?
I spoke to HP (UK Printer Support) and they said it is Internet Explorer 9's problem. I have left a message on the Microsodt Web forum which you can see here. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/ie/forum/ie9-windows_vista/internet-exploer-9-not-printing-header...
I am hoping they may release a patch / hotfix - but this has to be affecting many other users of this printer too? The more of us that complain, the quicker it will get sorted.
Any others with the same problem?
    Thanks.

I spoke with Microsoft technical support via phone today. Between us - we seemed to have found the problem.
It's to do with the DPI (the font size) settings in Windows!?
I have mine set to 188% on my Windows Vista mahcine and 200% on my Windows 7 laptop.
From my Printing tests in Internet Explorer 9...
at 100 % DPI – it prints perfectly
at 150% DPI – it prints perfectly
at 200% DPI – the right side of the margin is cut off, and no footer is printed – despite it looking perfect in the Print Preview.
I am using http://uk.msn.com/ as my test print outs.
This indicates when the DPI is changed above 150%, IE9 doesn't print properly – though other browsers like Safari or Firefox do print correctly. This surely has to indicate a bug in either the Windows operating system or Internet Explorer 9?
Microsoft are going to run their own tests and phone me back tomorrow...hopefully with a solution!
Hope this helps any others with the same problem at the moment!
Would be great if HP could provide a soloution asap - surely a tweak to the Printer dirvers will fix the problem?
