Safari Installation Problem

Hi all,
Don't ask me how but my wife managed to delete Safari off my iMac. I've tried to download it again but I get the following message:
*"Safari can't be installed on this disk. This update requires Mac OS X 10.5.8 or newer."*
I have Snow Leopard completely up-to-date so it shouldn't be an issue.
Any ideas?
Ben

I have Snow Leopard completely up-to-date so it shouldn't be an issue.
Yes, it should be an issue; you cannot download Safari for Snow Leopard. What you downloaded is for Leopard, which is completely different. Before you get all excited, look in your /Applications folder to see if Safari is there; just because it's missing from the Dock doesn't mean it's been deleted.
If you see it in the /Applications folder, select it and drag the icon to your Dock, then try launching it and it should work. If it's just not there at all, then you'll have to reinstall it from the Snow Leopard installation disk. In that case:
Insert the installation disc, navigate to the Optional Installs folder and launch the Optional Installs.mpkg file. Select Safari as the only thing to install and run the installer; quit when done and eject the disc. Restart your Mac, then use Disk Utility to Repair Disk Permissions and you should be set to go.
Of course, advising your wife not to go delete anything unless she's sure that's what she wants, and is aware of the consequences if she deletes the wrong thing would be a good idea.

  • Safari installs ASU even when not selected

I have seen this with iTunes 8, and now with Safari 4, that even though I specifically turned off the option to install Apple Software Update, still gets installed.
So off to Programs and uninstall again.
Does this fly under the radar? not really an option? a "bug"? or just doesn't take "No" for an answer?
I also don't want any extra services, like Bonjour to be installed (and actually not install!) Same for MobileMe (why does Safari need Bonjour again? that's rhetorical).
Seems like any Apple software is really pushing updates; the old problem of downloading other apps isn't happening, but I need to go into msconfig along with to uninstall extra applications and services.

Just installed Safari 4.04 for Windows.
Apple Software Update still installs when option is turned off, shows up in msconfig and Programs folder.
ASU is also found in Programs and Features control panel.
Using Windows 7 "Troubleshoot Compatibility" it shows as an Incompatible Application.
I wanted to troubleshoot someone else's issues with Java, Flash, and BBC.
Safari installs its own Plug-in folder?
Why is that needed? to link to Java? to install its version which was older than current?
    Doesn't seem Windows 7 friendly.
Why or what is "Apple Application Support" now listed in Programs?
Bonjour was not installed, in compliance with my wishes that it not be.

  • Safari installer error msgs

Started out with the simple intention of upgrading Safari 3.12 to 3.23. 3.23 installer said I needed at least 10.5.6 (had 10.5.5). Installed updates thru 10.5.8.
Took my old Safari app 3.12 to the Trash. When I tried to run 3.23 installer, got message..."You cannot install Safari on this volume. This volume already has a newer version of Safari installed." (Safari 3.23 installer report) Have searched the entire HD, there is no other Safari application to be found
OK, lets go backward a little and try the 3.2Leo installer. Get message..."You cannot install Safari on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update." (Safari 3.2Leo installer)
Well, let's go back to what worked. Start up the 3.12 installer and get message "You cannot install Safari on this volume. This update requires Mac OS X 10.5.2 or newer." (message recieved when trying to install safari 3.12)
I had previously updated Firefox to 3.014 and got a note suggeting to update Flashplayer which has to flashplayer ub 10.0.32.18. Trashed that update but still no change.
Went to trash and pulled 3.12 out and put back in applications folder. Still the same installer messges with each version of Safari I try to install.
This problem has got me buffaloed. Can't find any Safari installer issues that seem to mirror this one.
    Thanks for all replies!

Used 10.5.x install disk to install original copy of Safari (3.04 I think). Tried to upgrade. Same messages. Even tried an install under SafeBoot but apparently, installs are inhibited.
Ran 10.5.8 update twice, no change. Have run permissions repair and saw following report: "ACL found but not expected in Applications". Not sure what ACL is.
Last thing...(this is really stupid)...I found that my iPod Touch 3rdGen hooked up to a USB port during the OS upgrades.

  • Safari has problems displaying WAY TOO MANY pages.

For some time now, I've noticed that Safari simply cannot display certain pages. The first time I noticed this was on my MBP17 with a Snow Leopard (10.6.8) installation, using Safari 5.1.9. After a barage of Security Updates started creating a flurry of problems on this computer (including the Safari problem, as best I recall), I finally gave in and migrated (I can't really say upgraded) to Mountain Lion. It was my hope that this would cure the recent problems. It did not! After migrating to Mountain Lion (10.8.5) and Safari 6.0.5, I still see the same thing that I get on my MBP15 that remains on OS 10.6.8 and Safari 5.1.9.
The problem I see is that Safari simply can't display certain pages. Many of them are on Apple's own website. For a while, I just thought Apple was creating pages with no content. It wasn't until I got to a page that had menus that wouldn't work (at all), that I decided to try the same page with Firefox. To my surprise, the page displayed perfectly on Firefox. I pasted the source code from pages displayed in both the Safari and Firefox into separate BBEdit documents and compared the source. It was absolutely identical! Presumably, therefore, the problem occurs with JavaScript modifications to the DOM. While it's easy to cut n' paste the DOM from Firefox, I've yet to find an easy way to do this with Safari's debugger. So, I can't tell exactly where the problem starts. Besides... Apple just doesn't pay me enough to debug their code for them!
The follow screenshots show the results of the attempt to display http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ in both browsers. (I was on this page trying to figure out a solution to the error message "an unknown error occurred (-42408)" that I keep getting in iTunes... a whole different can of worms!)
As displayed in Safari (or as NOT displayed in Safari)...
    As displayed in Firefox...
This problem crops up on many sites and is rather unpredictable. The thing that amazes me most is how often it occurs on Apple's own site! And since I see it on two different computers, with different OS and Safari installations, I can't possibly be the only one who sees this. I did just try it on my iPad 1 and the same page displays fine. Do I just need to go back to an even older OS version on my MBPs? Maybe OS 8?
Anybody have an idea what might be going on? I have spent the entire past week debugging iOS7, iTunes, Safari and Mtn Lion. After over 34 years on Apple products, I'm just about ready to go buy a PC!! Maybe even a CPM box.
    PLEASE HELP!
PS: Just to make it WORSE... I have tried to enter this several times and keep getting an error. I finally had to switch to Firefox and try again. What the HEXX has happened to Apple???

From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the errant extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. Its settings will revert to their defaults. If the extension still causes a problem, remove it permanently or refer to its developer for support.

  • Safari installer won't recognize OSX version

I am trying to update Safari to 2.0.3 on OSX.4.6. The Safari installer insists that my OS isn't up-to-date - says I need at least 10.4.2.
I've reinstalled the 10.4.6 update, restarted and re-attempted the Safari install, but this has not fixed the problem. Any insights?
    iBook G3   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Welcome to Discussions Marlyam.
If you reinstall with the 10.4.6 combo updater, Safari 2.0.3 will automatically be installed along with it.
Try doing that, sometimes using a stand-alone updater misses things, the combo should work for you. You can find the combo updater here.
Please post back and let us know if this solves your problem,

  • Installation problem on SUSE 12.1

    Hi
I'm a Linux beginner and I am trying to install LV on SUSE 12.1
I've also posted my problems on Lava:
    http://lavag.org/topic/15240-labview-installation-problem-on-suse-121/
The installation started and it looks quite all right, but when I try to start LabVIEW, the application just sits in the taskbar for about 20 seconds and then just disappears.
     Any ideas?
Is there a way to debug to see what's going on?
    Cheers,

    Hi Mike,
Unfortunately, there are no versions of LabVIEW supported on SUSE 12.1 at present. Here's a link to LabVIEW version compatibility with different Linux distributions. I saw from your other forum that you're attempting to install LabVIEW 2009, which is certified for SUSE 11.0 at the latest.

  • Xp_logininfo Installation problem

    Hello gurus,
I'm facing the same problem as described in this link:
Re: xp_logininfo "Installation problem on windows 2003 with Sql 2005"
the error I get is similiar:
<i>The below message comes from executing the command master..xp_logininfo '<domain>\<user> ' Msg 15404, Level 16, State 11, Procedure xp_logininfo, Line 62 Could not obtain information about Windows NT group/user '<domain>\<user> ', error code 0x534. The statement has been terminated</i>
but I just don't get how to solve it.
-I've tried to use the profiler but didn't find any information that will help me to solve.
-One of the guys wrote to add "logon rights" to the user ... what does it mean ?
    Please advice,
    Dimitry Haritonov

    Hi sven,
Thank you very much for the quick and direct answer.
The problem was that the user that runs the SQL SERVER service didn't have authorization to retrieve information from active directory.
I've changed the service user, run the sapinst again, and after it succeeded I've returned the previous user.
    Best regards,

  • Oracle database 11g release 2 installation problem on windows 7 (64-bit)

First of all my windows is not genuine, but on my friend's desktop oracle download and installation  worked fine, he chose "create and configure database" options, and it works very well on his desktop, though his windows is also illegitimate. In my case, when I select "Create and configure database" option and pressed 'next",
(Go to my blog to see it with snapshots: Computer Science: Oracle database 11g release 2 installation problem on windows 7 (64-bit))
it asks to select class, I select "Desktop class" and pressed "next". The moment I pressed "next", the whole setup thing disappeared like it was never started. I searched for all possible reasons for why its not getting installed on my laptop, I used registry cleaner s/w,  deleted 25 GB of data to create free space if it were the problem, increased the virtual memory to increase the space for RAM, I did almost everything to get this setup working, but I found no success with the "Create and Configure database" option
    and
    then
I chose a "database software only" option and chose to store in a folder w/o spaces. This way, I got database s/w only and then later I found "Database configuration Assistant (DBCA)"  from windows START button and clicked to create and configure database manually. The steps are pretty much interactive and doesn't involve much brainstorming.
    The values I filled for
    1) Global Database Name :  orcl
    2) System Identifier : orcl
    3) I chose common password for both SYS and SYSTEM
    4) while on Enterprise Manager Configuration step, It asked me to create and configure listener in oracle home, so for that too, I typed "netca" in windows START menu and clicked it. There I added a listener.
    5) I chose a Storage area which was the Oracle-home itself i.e. where our installation files goes , in my case it is : C:\oracle_base\product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\oradata
    6) Then after few more nitty-gritty clicks, we are set to go !
Finally to write SQL code and to create your first TABLE , type "sqlplus" in windows "START" menu and click it when it appears. A command-prompt like window appears , which will ask you for username and password, so here they are :
    Username : sys/ as sysdba
Password : (its the one you created in step 3 stated above )
After this you are ready to write your first SQL command.

Is this your solution to your original post at Oracle database 11g release 2 installation on windows 7 (64-bit) ?
Pl be aware that you should not create any custom objects in SYS or SYSTEM schema - you should create any such objects in a separate custom schema.

  • Lightroom 3.2 Installation Problem on Windows 7 64-bit

Lightroom 3.2 Installation Problem on Windows 7 64-bit
I can't install Lightroom 3.2 (German) on my computer (Windows 7 Professional 64-bit).
While copying the extracted program files the following error message appears:
An error occurred during the installation of assembly component {6435B7C0-E0C8-3EA2-91AE-7640034EAFCE}. HRESULT: 0x80070002.
I found out that other users had the same problem, and couldn't find a solution.
Perhaps it is a Microsoft .NET Framework related problem. But after installing .NET Framework 4 nothing changed.
Thanks for ideas to solve the problem.

Thanks for your advice, Mr. McLion.
I downloaded the 3.4.1 version and started the installation as administrator. Unfortunately the same error message occured again.
Then I tried to install the 32-bit version (although I prefer a 64-bit program on a 64-bit operating system). A similar error message appeared at the same point of installation progress, but with another combination of numbers and letters in brackets.

  • PPStream installation problem on Windows 7

I just recently install bootcamp and use bootcamp to install windows 7 pro. Everything seems fine until i download PPStream and install it. The installation process was smooth just like usual. However, when it finishes installing, it asked me if i wanna open the PPStream. and i said yes. guess what, nothing happened, then the PPStream icon on desktop is not a normal app icon, it's like a unknown file icon with the reflash arrow on the bottom right corner.
I thought it might be the installation problem, then i went into Control Panel and uninstall the app, and reinstall PPStream, the same thing happened, and every time i click the PPStream icon on desktop, windows explorer stopped working. Anyone knows what's going on or got experience like this before? i will appreciate for any input. thanks

    很简单。你子安装的过程中。看一下安装的目录。默认是安装在苹果的系统盘里的。而这个盘是只读的。所以管理器会崩溃。只要改到c盘的目录就可以了。
very easy, reinstall pps. when install pps directory change e : drive ---- to c: drive ... you area set to watch
