Safari iOS 8.1 freeze and slow

Hello,
i have same problems with ios 8.1 with my Ipad3. when the Google search shows me the results, the blue links does not respond when I  tap. Safari was as if frozen. I have to drag the page up or down so that the link becomes active again. Further the application is very slow. Today I tried iPad Air it was same thing !!!!
the problem persists since updating iOS8.0.0. I am very disappointed with Apple.
excuse me for my english, I am french.

Just to make it perfectly clear to Sengadog and Virtualgeo -
I can confirm that both momolorient and les are correct - Safari under iOS 8.0.0, 8.0.1, 8.0.2 AND 8.1 is cripplingly slow when compared to Safari under iOS 7.x
A side by side test comparison between two iPad (3rd gen) Wi-Fi + Cellular illustrates it as self evident that there are a genuine issues here, along with delayed keyboard response and links that play dead!!
FYI - I'm wholly disinterested in being advised to "reset this, reset that, restore this, restore that" because none of that hocus-pocus works any better than crossing your fingers and spitting into the wind!
How can Apple take an application that worked just fine under iOS 7.x and "upgrade" it so that it's barely usable!
Any connected device that falters on the most crucial of functions is analogous to having the newest car on the block only to have it keep stalling every 10 yards (metres)!
Apple need to focus on getting the engine running properly and not on spurious functions like Continuity, iCloud Photo Library, Apple Pay etc. - which the majority of users never even bother with!
I was no fan, but Steve Jobs' legacy is just being p!$$3d up the wall!

If nothing else works, you might try this one. It has worked for many others ...
Use iTunes to do a reset to factory default condition. Always be sure to do your backups before fiddling with your iPad. You might do both the iCloud and the iTunes backup, just to be sure!

For all iPad 2 owners, this is an important solution for you! These problems result from long-term use, continuous upgrades, corrupted files and various glitches that happen over this long term use. You just need to get your iPad 2 back to FACTORY FRESH CONDITION to start out clean!
Here's one person's solution which will help a lot of iPad 2 users!

Re: IPAD2 very slow after IOS 8 upgradein response to pacoKAS
SOLVED:  IOS 8 Issues on iPad 2:
I just returned home from a visit to the Genius Bar. Like you and many others, when I upgraded my iPad 2 to IOS 8, it became practically unusable. It was VERY slow, lagged whenever trying to to do anything. Lots of screen freezes and apps spontaneously crashing. I was convinced that the processor on the iPad 2 just couldn't handle the new IOS and I went in to see about restoring to IOS 7.
Thankfully, I was hooked up with a very sharp guy at the bar. The problem is not with the OS, it is with it being an *upgraded* OS. He used the analogy of when you had an older Windows computer and how over time (and over upgrades), they just tended to get slower and slower because of all of the garbage that was carried forward in the upgrades. At those times (and if you've ever had a Windows computer, you get this), the only thing that would speed it up would be to wipe the machine and do a fresh install of the current OS and then reload your apps, and the viola, everything would be fast again. Well, it turns out that IOS can suffer the same problems.
THE FIX:  FIRST, be sure you have a current iCloud backup of your device.  Connect your iPad to a computer that has a clean fresh copy of IOS 8 on iTunes (this is best done with a computer other than the one that you sync your device to because you DO NOT want to restore it from a back up just yet). Ideally, if you do this at an Apple store you'll be assured of the right version there and someone to answer any questions you might have along the way. You then hold the power and home button down to hard-reset the device and continue to hold them down until it reboots into recovery mode. You then follow the instructions on the computer to reinstall the OS on the device (which wipes everything from it and then reinstalls a clean copy of it). Once this is done (which only takes about 15 minutes), your device will reboot and ask you to set it up. Answer the questions about language, location, etc. and continue until it asks you to log into your iTunes account. Once you do that, it will ask if you want to either 1) Set it up as a new device, 2) Restore from iCloud, or 3) Restore from iTunes. Choose (2), restore from iCloud. This will ensure that it brings down "clean" copies of all of your apps and preferences rather than the potentially corrupted ones that might reside in your iTunes backup. That's it! It will take a few hours depending on how much data and apps you have, but I am happy to report that my iPad 2 is now running IOS 8 and it's running as fast as it ever did when it was brand new!
To sum it up, this process 1) Wipes your device and the garbage causing your problems, 2) Loads a clean and bug-free version of IOS 8 to your device, and 3) restores your apps and data so that it looks just like it did before the wipe, with the exception that it works now!  :-)
Note also that by following this process you don't have to go through the painful and laborious process of reloading all of your apps, data and/or settings. iCloud takes care of all of that for you.

  • Freezing and Slow

Finally got MacBook Pro for work (bye bye dell) and I am having both Freezing and Slowness problems. Machine info: MacBook Pro 15", 2.4Ghz core 2 duo, 2GB Ram, 200GB HD (108GB used), FileVault, OS X 10.4.11, Parallels (typically not running any longer). All original HW, nothing changed/added. All SW is updated to latest versions, patches, etc.
The system freezes under two conditions I can repeat (sometimes). By freezing I mean nothing from the trackpad or keyboard impact anything (i.e., cursor will not move and things like cmd-opt-esc do not yield Force Quit window). No response from a plugged in external mouse either. Must press and hold power button to reboot. Any windows that had something moving (i.e., entourage progress bars) stop moving. First case is when I plug in an external display. Only plugging in external VGA, not DVI, so using apple adaptor cable. Sometimes the machine immediately freezes; other times it freezes exactly when I press the Detect Displays in the Displays System Preferences pane. The second case is after I change network setting Location from within the Network System Preferences Pane (i.e., from supporting Verizon USB EVDO to Ethernet). The computer freezes when I press Apply Now after changing Location. Note that in both conditions, the computer does not always freeze. If I reboot and try again (changing locations or driving external display) the computer does not freeze and expected actions work.
The computer otherwise will get VERY slow from time to time. (To the point that I want the dell back!) By slow I mean clicking on an application window in the background and waiting a minute or more for the application window to come to the front. Or having typed text in a variety of applications show up 20 to 40 seconds after I type. When I check Activity Monitor or run Top in Terminal window, the CPU typically is not beyond 20% usage. Changing to Better Performance in the Energy Saver System Preferences Pane has no impact. I have not found any firm correlations here to other actions. It does often happen for 15+ minutes after I bring the computer out of sleep mode; sometimes after I come out of screen saver; and more infrequently it just gets slow while working. I now reboot when it gets slow and the machine works again. Uptime is no more than 2 days at a time at this point (pathetic given my iMac G5 stays up 60 days without reboot).
I have AppleCare on the macbook pro, but was hoping not to have to send it in. If I do this I have to wipe my documents folder first due to data sensitivity. Could go to Apple store for Genius to look at.
I have tried reseting PRAM, HD permissions fix in Disk Utility, and allowing FileVault fix the unused space issue (Apple, put in a time indicator on this!). No help.
    Any suggestions?
    -David.

    Hi,
Could it be indexing your files by Spotlight?
Or TimeMachine on a slow external disk?
Try with WhatSize, this app will tell you if you have enormous log files that might slow some operations.
I have some slow issue from time to time. Most are related to having too many operations at the same time (5-8 running softwares) with big database and huge download while Time Machine is backing up. Usually, quitting some apps and rebooting works for me. If not, I run Cocktail.

  • Freezing and slow page loading in Safari

Okay, this is, by far, the most frustrating problem I've had since buying this iBook. It's my first Mac, and up until this point I've been extremely happy with its performance.
Here's the deal: I open Safari, visit a couple of websites... and then around the fifth or sixth website I try to visit (whether it's by typing the address in the bar above or clicking a link) Safari just freezes. I try to reset Safari or sometimes I try to erase the History, and then the entire iBook freezes and I have to turn it off.
Is there some kind of diagnostic I can perform to determine the problem? Is the some Mac-approved virus detecting software I can download somewhere? Is this an adware/spyware problem? What do you think?
I live on my iBook, so this is a very frustrating problem. Any advice you can give me would be appreciated.
    -Put

Put -- Have you done these yet?
Restart your computer, Open Safari and then do these:
    1. Empty your cache & History settings via the Safari menu
    2. Trash your Icons Folder:
    HD>Users>Home>YourName>Library>Safari -->Icons
Restart Safari and a new folder will be automatically regenerated.
(This folder saves favicons of all the sites you visit. Needs cleaning periodically -- or you can change that file's preferences to "Read Only"
rather than "Read & Write." This will keep it from growing in size.)
    3. You might want to check all three "auto" preferences in Safari. Sometimes those lists gets very long and need pruning. (I turned all autofill boxes off, and have no problems.)
    4. Launch Font Book and check all fonts for duplicates. A duplicated font will have a bullet beside the font family and you can resolve duplicates by selecting the font and at the menu bar, go to Edit > Resolve Duplicates.
Do this for each font with a bullet next to it.
    If you're still having problems:
    5. Shut down your computer . . . unplug the computer, modem, and router, if you have one. Let everything sit for 2-3 minutes. Plug everything back in, start up your modem & router, then restart your computer.
Since this is your first Mac (congratulations, by the way:)
Do you repair permissions before and (at leeast) after major installations & upgrades that require your administrative password to do the installs ?
    Hope this helps

  • IOS 7.0.2 on iPhone 5s freezing and slow

It is freezing randomly and acting ver strange. When I perform a cold reboot it will perform normally then eventually slow and then freeze.

I am also having this issue.  iPhone 5S, iOS 7.0.2 stock.  I have attempted doing a hard reset and a clean restore, and am still having this issue.  Starting to get really frustrating when I tap one thing, wait, and nothing happens.  Even more frustrating is when I'm typing, and I end up going back a screen when I tap a letter.  Or send a message before it is finished due to the tap being recognized as me hitting send when I am trying to tap a letter on the opposite side of the screen.  I've had this issue since I got the 5S on 9/20, and have been waiting for it to be fixed in 7.0.1 and 7.0.2.  Does anyone have any other tricks I can try before I take it back and trade for another phone?

  • Why has my iPad been freezing and slow since after I installed the iOS 8.0

ipad freezing after installing new operating system

    Try some basic troubleshooting:
    (A) Try reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    (B) Try reset all settings
    Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings
    (C) Setup as new (data will be lost if you do not have backup)
    Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings

  • Snow Leopard freezing and slow wireless

I installed Snow leopard, installation went fine since then my computer will randomly freeze for increments of 30 seconds up to a few minutes. Happens on iTunes, Quicktime and safari. I also find to have a very slow wireless connection since the installation. Any ideas?

strange, my wifi's as fast as it normally was.
machine is: macbook 13.3" unibody 2ghz, 4gb ram
wiped it clean beforehand, installed SL fresh then restored my work via time-machine on install
Cocktail's a good util to customize your wifi speed, although it won't work on SL
My machine is set to 64bit mode though, however to be honest the 32/64 bit is a mystery at the moment, seems the kernel remains at 32 whereas the rest can happily go to 64bit with 64bit apps running happily against 32bit ones.
May want to time-machine your work, install fresh and restore from time machine. just use a usb-portable or huge memory stick, will only need to do it once.
Michelle's machine has the same problem (core duo macbook white), going to look at that tomorrow, will post if i solve it

  • Sudden frequent freezing and slow or oddly behaving applications

A few days ago, my 3 month old Macbook Pro started acting very strangely. Sometimes it won't wake up from sleep (the sleep light stays on when I open the screen but the screen remains black) and I have to force restart the computer. If it does wake up, it is initially unresponsive for about 15 seconds if I try to open an application. Also, it has begun freezing randomly (completely frozen, I cannot force-quit any applications, move the mouse, or get it to sleep by closing the screen), so that I have to restart by holding the power button. This happens as often as three times a day, when I use Safari, Preview, Real Player or iTunes. I have no idea what is going on; any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Preview app freezing and slowing down MBP

Since I updated to OS Mavericks my preview app has not been functioning properly. When the app is open when viewing PDFs a window (accompanied by a progress bar) pops up quite frequently that says "Saving changes... '#' documents remaining", with the # sign representing any number of documets. Often, the number of documents "remaining to be saved" progressively increases from 1 to 8 or so, despite there being only one document open. While the app is doing these "auto saves" my computer is slowed down significantly and while these interuptions occur I am usually unable to do anything else.
I will also add that the size of the PDF files that I view are rather large, on average 70-80 MB, although I'm not sure if that is the reason for the issue because before I updated to Mavericks I didn't have this problem. And the problem does also seem to occur with smaller sized files as well.
My computer usage is usually minimal when this occurs, typically only Safari is open in the background. I was advised to reset my SMC, which I did, but the problem is still occurring. Any additional advice or solutions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Update: The Preview app is using a lot of memory and I don't know why.
With activity monitor on, I notice that the memory usage for the app spikes considerably when viewing PDFs, especially when I scroll, exactly the same problem as you, loveceratops. When a PDF is initially openend, the activity monitor shows memory usage around 50 MB, but when I scroll within the PDF the memory usage shoots all the way up to 500 or 600 MB. It's at this point that the glitches preciptating in Preview begin to occur.
I've tried deleting/recreating the preview app's ".plist" files in the "Preferences" and "Containers" folders, but that has not solved the issue. I want to try to reinstall Preview, and I just might, but I'm also considering reinstalling OS Mavericks since that may be easier; but I'm concerned that the same problem would still keep happening since I'd be recovering all my files from Time Machine after the reinstall.
Any help solving this issue would be much appreciated, thanks in advance. This is a very frustrating problem.

  • MacBook Pro (17-inch, Late 2011) Yosemite Freezing and Slow

Problems all of a sudden with a flawless MBP. I am getting hard Kernal Panic restarts using mail, safari, text edit (all up to date) in yosemite. Auto-Correct typing is so slow it is actually pausing for seconds at a time before catching up. (Even while writing this)
This MBP is loaded with a Samsung Professional EVO, 16GB RAM, and has never had a problem before today. Some of the KP's reference CPU -
love the features, not too stoked with this new 'workflow.'
Anyone else? Thoughts? Wait for Rev. .01?

Eric, I know this thread is ages old but I was wondering if you had any luck resolving your issues.  I am looking at upgrading from Mavericks and I also have a late 2011 17".  I'm irritated that Apple isn't going to backport the patch for Rootpipe and Yosemite has gotten quite mixed reviews.  If you have any insights or tips about installing I'd be most appreciative.
